WHERE do you get King Oyster mushrooms?
Hey: I don’t have a dehydrator and don’t really intend to purchase one. Alternative? I know dehydrating in an oven is possible but is it as effective and is the end result (the fAke bacon) the same?
It seems like for any vegan meat, you start with a vegetable that doesn't have a strong flavor but a strong texture that resembles the meat you're trying to replicate, and then adding the flavors by using sauces, spices, etc... That bacon looks amazing, I wouldn't care if they served that in restaurants instead of real bacon, and I love bacon.
Sauce:
2/3 cup of soy sauce
2 tbsp Olive Oil
1 tbsp Mushroom Powder
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 TBSP maple syrup
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder

meat eaters who love cooking have been doing stuff like this forever. sauteeing vegetables and such like mushrooms enhances steaks a d whatever else we eat.

if youre a muslim try chicken or turkey bacon, this is more for vegetarians
@@zorn2017 they'd also have to make sure those meats are halal. Veg is always halal so it's a good option for some things for some people.
@@zorn2017 that's more lean and suitable for diets, this has a porky taste and is chock full of sodium just like the real stuff. You can also have it while fasting from meat.

The consistency, knowing when to stop baking mushrooms, is extremely close to meat. Mushrooms are the best. Awesome idea for bacon, will try it. Thanks.

Usually growers like to get a bit more cap to stem ratio than that with the king's, and when you do that they just don't seem to get as big.

I use it more often then I thought I would!!! there is always the oven dehydrator method too!
u feel like 160 for an hour is something most ovens can do, probably useful for other recipes certainly but I think in this case you could get away without one
I have a dehydrate function on my air fryer.
I’ve been doing this for a while now. It’s all about that crispy fatty tasting number.

i have an Asian mom and we've been eating these 5 years now I just know when the whites catch on to it it will be one of the better mushrooms. Very good with steak.

From a meat eater. That's the closest fake bacon I've seen.
Most of them kinda suck ngl, but the fungi based ones are usually pretty good.
Bacon is one of the things I've never come across a good substitute for, fortunately I didnt like bacon all that much anyway

So clever to vary the hydration of the mushrooms, is making me hungry! Also I wonder if you've ever experimented with edible wrappers. With your curiosity you might come up with something good. Have you ever tried those Japanese sweets in edible cellophane? I wonder if a vegan version of edible cellophane is possible? If we had edible wrappers that's using less plastic, just a thought.

Learn to clone mushrooms and grow your own :p it's fun hobby :)
Or buy a grow kit. And grow your own that way. It's more expensive than cloning but it works too.

If you go vegan you have to be pretty good at making sure you meet all your needs so naturally, there will be a bunch of people that want to make that ethical change in their lives but don't plan everything properly and end up not meeting some of their important essentials.
I've been doing doing variations of Kenji's recipe for king oyster bacon for a years, and I have to say, while I love many of the ways you've made bacon here, and other methods too, for my money king oysters make the BEST plantbased bacon! I'll be sure to try our your method soon, it looks fabulous! Fantastic video as always!

@@luke28415 you make a valid point in a sense, but simply cooking pre-made bacon isn’t a fair comparison to bacUN from scratch. There are some great videos making meat bacon from scratch on CZcams as well. It’s also pretty involved.

Me: loves mushrooms and loves bacon, so I try this recipe. Here are my thoughts... This guy has no idea what real bacon tastes like, cause while this is good, to call this "bacon" is 100% a lie. It is very good, and i will make it for burger toppers, but its not a bacon replacement, or a bacon like food.
Thank you for being honest lol I’m trying to go vegan and it upsets me when ppl say vegan substitutes taste like the real thing. Nothing to date tastes like the real thing unless you use processed named brand vegan substitutes which I am opposed to doing. I believe in whole and natural ingredients and so far making vegan replacement meals and dishes from scratch do not taste like the real thing. They still taste good so why not just say it doesn’t taste like *insert meat name here* but it still tastes delicious?

Just learned about this mushroom yesterday after eating KBQ for the first time. I'm fascinated with the many ways you can prepare it. I want to add more mushrooms to my diet but I struggle with the pungent flavor. This one seems to be more mild and crazy juicy when grilled.

Yussss I knew dehydrating somethings was the way to go. Was going to experiment with this method by testing out jackfruit and king oyster mushroom to see if I can make a vegan "vaca frita".
