CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - One of the hidden gems when it comes to local markets and street food in Chiang Mai, is the Friday morning Yunnan tribal market. Every Friday morning you’ll discover a friendly market where minority groups, often with roots in Yunnan, China, gather to sell food.
Some come from the countryside where they bring rare ingredients, and others sell family favorite dishes. You’ll also find a good range of Halal food ready to eat. So today we’re going on a street food tour of the Friday morning market in Chiang Mai.
I started at the beginning of the market first with a walk around the market to see the colorful ingredients. I love seeing all the different Yunnanese pickles and preserves, and all the different roots and herbs that go into cooking. In the center of the market you’ll find a few samosa stalls selling halal snacks.
Next I tried a Burmese mohinga which is a fish stew over rice noodles topped with herbs and crispy lentil fritters. It’s an amazing dish and goes down great for breakfast. I also especially loved the khao buk nga - rice cakes grilled and filled with sesame paste.
Finally to end this street food tour, we sat down in the food court for a few bowls of Shan style noodles and split pea porridge.
If you enjoy exploring local markets and learning about different cultures, the Friday Yunan market is a fantastic place to visit when you’re in Chiang Mai.

Micah reaching in to tear off some roti! He's going to be the most interesting well-traveled, well-rounded, food-exposed person of all time. I can't WAIT for his future videos!
is that his daughter?
@@frankabjh674 son
Love the fact that when Mark is trying to work, you see Micah’s hands reach in for some Roti bread and and he keeps his composure, and he doesn’t even edit it out. The vids are so professional, and yet so personal. It’s what I love about this channel!

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”
Psalms 27:4 NIV
I think that is very important and that is also why it is having a lot of success, it is a great channel
Just goes to show Micah has had an amazing upbringing. Alot of kids are fussy or picky about food, but that's because they're not introduced to things from a young age, where as micah has got to experience so many foods and cultures already in his life. Could easily see him doing what mark does or even becoming a chef as I mean he'll already have an unparalleled knowledge.
That last minute of the episode when you and Micah were across from each other, the both of you were leaning into your bite of noodles was so adorable!
Do this vipassana technique for enlightenment, universal knowledge, financial buissness, whole body healing, intellect, tension free amd more lucky.Do this only at woke up.do this minimum 25 mins to maximum 3hrs.
Close eyes, sit fully straight.concentrate fully and feel very slowly sensation at top of head for 15 seconds, next divide each parts of scalp and sense there, next right shoulder, right arm, right forearm, right hand fingers, left shoulder, left arm, left forearm, left hand fingers, neck, divide each part of chest, divide each part of stomach, divide each part of back, divide each part of whole right leg, divide each part of left leg.do this head to toe,toe to head.do this continuously.
Note : if distracted feel the sensation. Every time sensation changes.don't eat 3 times a day,eat 5 to 6 times a day,eat atleast half kg of fruits a day.

I just want someone to utter these three magic words to me: “I brought food.” .🤤

Micah knew EXACTLY how much spice those noodles needed. They looked freaking amaaaazing!
Was it only me or was the highlight seeing Micah and Mark slurping down noodles? Classic! 💜

I love Micah’s random little hands pulling at the roti. Lol
I lived in Thailand for a year ages ago nothing beats that kind of street food and you can eat for a buck amazing flavors bursting your mouth. I've lived in Japan for 30 years, food is good, balanced, and has all the right colors etc. but for me nothing is better Thai street food!

Mark, wherever you go.,it’s always so AWESOME dude😊
Micah is the epitome of the meme "how spicy do you want it?....Yes" 😂. Would love to know if he's more of a Spicy/Sour (Like Dad) or Sweet foodie (Like Mom).

Good to see You Back Mark Wein, Stay Safe and God Bless
No matter where I am in the world, Thailand is my happy place! Thanks for this video.
So glad you did a "vlog" about this market! I LOVE this place! My wife and I just watched it together. We miss this, we're too far from Chiang Mai to drive in on Friday A.M. We used to go there a lot. You're so right; a lot of things you won't see at other markets! There's some fruits there that I had no idea of. One looks like an orange pear and tastes just like sweet potato pie!
Ahh I miss Thai markets so much! Love the aroma of food everywhere 🤤
Wow! love this place , wonderful market with good food and spices.
I am learning different countries food from your video. Thank you
I am in Chiang Mai now and craving for Burmese Monhinga and Shan noodles. It's Friday morning now and I am heading there now 😊. Thanks for the tips.
That Samosa looked totally Indian 👊👊🇹🇭🇮🇳🇮🇳
That was so entertaining and fun!
I love this episode! also like how Micah now has a more active role :), especially when he was trying to get some of the roti :). so so cute
Great to see you back in Thailand! Love your channel Mark. The street market in Chang Mai is one of my favorite places. Been there many times. Everything looks so delicious. Love the food visuals. Makes me want to fly to Thailand right now!
👌 wow
Wow
Delicious 👍
You're not kidding. I'd do ANYTHING for some authentic Thai food right now. The Thai restaurants in my area are a shallow imitation of what Thai food should be and It's KILLING me.

Aww!! ❤ 💕 You always have such a lovely food videos, Very aesthetically pleasing
I love to see Micah's Cameo appearance... with his little fingers enjoying food... Love you videos Mark
Bhajia is called kachri in bihar india... We also have samosas in our country.. Seems very same food
Thanks for teaching us about Halal, I’m Jewish culturally and I knew about keeping Kosher but it is so interesting to see other cultures food preparations. I did some research on Halal because I was fascinated.
There is a massive amount of common ground between the abrahamic faiths. I’m not sure about about Jews but muslims can eat kosher food as it is slaughtered/prepared in a similar manner to Halal food.
@@voice2voiceless: Well, I'm Jewish but live in a secular district and I buy all my meat at a halal market. They have the most beautiful meat I have ever seen which is actually less expensive than any regular grocery store. Kosher meat is sooo
expensive because of small communities.
Great content Mark.Im always learning something new. Stay safe.Best regards to your family ❤️🙏
Hi! I'm in Chaiang Mai tomorrow for a week. Can't wait to try this. thanks for the tip.

Mark have loved your videos for many years Love the fact we see Micah more
Interestingly, Mark, I can see some Indian influence. Those fritters are actually called 'BHAJIYA' in India. Bajji in South India. The world is smalĺer than it looks 😍😍
In Myanmar, we call them Baya Kyaw!
For years i have been watching Mark's channel...i really love his wife's dedication...she doesn't complain...she just enjoys her own moments aside from supporting.....a great example for westerners
