10 Free things to do on a cruise

  • There are lots of things you can do on a cruise for no extra charge
    that you probably couldn't do on land. Notice we didn't say they're
    "free" because you likely paid plenty of money for your cruise - but
    If budget is a consideration- which it always is for us, there are many ways to have a blast on the high seas while stretching your
    vacation dollar onboard:
    One of our favorite things to do is take off on our own personal photo
    shoot on deck during sunset or magic light. We love to do this on
    formal night when we're we are decked out in elegant wear.
    A little Down time more your style? Visit the onboard library for a book or board game. We're generally surprised at how many books and games are available and this could make for some awesome quality time with family or friends.
    In the mood for some entertainment? Catch a show in the big theatre - how often can you catch a Broadway
    style production at no charge? Your ship will likely offer a ton of variety
    shows as well, from hypnotists to ventriloquists, juggling acts to
    comedians, there's plenty of entertainment for all ages.
    Craving something sweet? Go out for ice cream. Most cruise lines offer free ice cream on board
    whether in the form of soft serve or an actual ice cream shop where you
    can choose your flavor or even order a milkshake or malt. and trust me
    the ice cream isn't just for kids.
    Ready to burn off that ice cream? Go out dancing. Most cruise ships offer everything from night clubs to
    ballroom dancing with no cover charge. So grab your dancing shoes and
    your honey and dance the night (or afternoon) away!
    How about a shipboard flick? Yep, Most cruise ships either have free movies running in
    their large theater or even on the pool deck. Some of my best memories
    of Alaska involve watching first run movies from a hot tub in the
    inside passage.
    Most cruise ships also offer enrichment activities onboard. Yep, you can Take a class- while will you'll find quite a few classes that do cost
    money onboard, there are also plenty of opportunities to
    Geek out at no charge. From cooking
    to photography and even computer classes, self improvement opportunities are
    very popular on cruises.
    If you're an art lover, Most ships have art galleries and you can browse for free. some ships even offer free champagne during their art actions. Sounds pretty sweet to me.
    Ever wonder what the kitchens look like on a ship. Well, you might just be able to find out. Many lines offer free tours of their expansive galley operations. Plan ahead though, these can get crowded.
    Last but not least, there's an abundance of complimentary food on
    cruises. while you've certainly paid for the food in your cruise
    fare, there are tons of ways to maximize your dining opportunities on
    board beyond the standard Buffett and main dining options. For example
    you can hit a chocolate extravaganza or go to a pizza making seminar
    or try something totally new.
    Be sure to watch your ship's daily newsletter to take advantage of these opportunities and most importantly, leave your suggestions in the comments below.

    Up until my last cruse we felt that room service was pushing things. Then on Celebrity lines to Alaska I took a tour of the food preparation areas and found that there was an entire kitchen dedicated to room service. We were told if no one ordered room service these people just sat around feeling stupid. So enjoy, its part of what you are paying for.

    The Carnival Cruise we are about to take allows you to use the Sauna in the Spa for free. The Gym is really impressive also, with amazing window views while you work out. There is also shuffleboard on most ships, and sometimes ping pong, basketball, miniature golf, water slides, rock climbing walls, etc. The Royal Car cruise we took had a free zip line and water surfing machine.

    Question. like other cruise lines. Does Carnival offer tea time? I really enjoy tea time. I know Cunard line for certain definitely offers this activity.

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 8 lety

      +scots451 great question. In our experience, they do, but they aren't the most luxurious or best organized. On my carnival sailings they've been held in lounges with low tables, etc. so I'd go into it with low expectations that it will be fancy! Princess does tea beautifully however and it's one of our fave Sea
      Day activities.

    I have a suggestion for your channel. Anytime dining....walk in and sit, eat and go? Is it awkward to just leave because it is paid for? And these snacks I see offered in the cafe's or other places....are those free as well? like pizza? thank you! Love your channel!

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 8 lety +1

      Sandra, I didn't get to your question in time to answer it on the weekly vlog, but I'd be happy to help! Yes, with anytime dining, you go to the restaurant at the time of your choice (beware- 6pm-7:30pm are very popular and you could have a wait), and when you're done eating, you just leave. No offense taken! You can ask for a private table, or a shared table, and they will try to accomodate your request. As for cafe's, on most ships, they are free. Pizza is always free, except on select ships with fancy pizzarias, or pizza delivered to your room.
      Did this help?

    Well on Carnival you can get wasted by the pool. On Norwegian you can do the belly flop contest. On Royal Caribbean, you can race to make reservations, to wait in long lines. On Disney, you can be circled by bratty children and costume characters. On Princess, you can watch the balloons fall. On Celebrity, you can walk around practicing being stuffy. On Holland, you can doze off about anywhere. ;)p

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 8 lety +1

      True on all lines. This is fueling my episode idea on "cruise ship personalities"!
      How was your voyage?

    • @thejokerspeaks
      @thejokerspeaks Před 8 lety

      +CruiseTipsTV Oh, that would be neat. Our cruise was fantastic, one of my favorites! Bermuda is worth seeing at least once, similar in some ways to the Caribbean, but many of the trees are actually pine. Friendly place, narrow, shaped like a fish hook. NYC was rainy, but amazing to see. .
      Celebrity is turning into my favorite cruise line. It's a low key relaxing line, often considered to have the best food of the mass market lines, and they spoil you with refreshments and iced cloths when you return from port. Despite the stereotypes, I found the Celebrity and NY crowd quite friendly, even more than our Alaskan cruise. Sea day activities have been beefed up, and gone are the endless nods to Abba and the Village people. I was surprised to hear mid 90's music playing all over the ship! They're obviously focused on younger Gen X. The ship is still majority boomers, whom seem to have accepted the transition.
      We booked an 11 day San Diego to Vancouver repo while on board. I got footage for a video

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 8 lety

      +thejokerspeaks sounds like a terrific trip. I have always wondered what it would be like to cruise from NY. Bermuda sounds pretty. Did you do an excursion there?
      I'm pleasantly surprised about the music (90's) change, especially for a longer cruise.
      How was the drink package?
      Interesting about celebrity- I wish they had a ship on the west coast right now- that's really the only reason we haven't tried the line. We could catch a Pacific coastal or repo, but that would still require a flight and I prefer warmer weather cruises when possible (which for us, usually means Mexico).

    • @thejokerspeaks
      @thejokerspeaks Před 8 lety +1

      +CruiseTipsTV Bermuda had temps around 75 degrees The water is beautiful turquoise, some of the beaches are pink sand. The people seemed generally happy. The houses have pastel colors, and white roofs designed to collect rain water. The ferry situation is a pain, I can't imagine in full season. Next time, I'll take the bus back to the ship.
      On the Millennium 2 years ago, they played loud dance music near the pool, but otherwise you felt like you were back in the 70's. This cruise we ate at the Blu dining room, for top veranda guests, and they're playing Green Day and Atlantis Morrisette during breakfast!
      The drink package was great. I mainly had a glass of Riesling Wine at dinner, and the occasional spiked coffee. Certainly not worth buying the package for us! And speaking of which, I made sure to not let the rum shwizzle get wasted on our glass bottom boat tour. We also did an island tour, with stops at the zoo and caverns. Way cool!
      As far as trying Celebrity, I recommend it. With some of the changes I don't like on Royal Caribbean, I was pleasantly surprised to see Celebrity improving. The buffet was better, more activities, and dry dock innovation. There are 2 round trips next year on the Infinity, Sept 24 & Oct 1st, out of LA.
