- This video is a demonstration of the amount of play the factory lower control arm bushing has. You can see how much it moves under moderate & heavy braking, extreme steering angles and at-speed corning.
This is a 2nd Generation Lexus IS350 and the bushing is the original equipment that came with the vehicle. Current mileage on the chassis at the time of recording was roughly 78k miles.
Darn i love watching double wishbone suspension in action.
getting stiffer LCA’s was single greatest upgrade ive ever done. rrracing ultimates
Fyi if anyone has any shaking between 50 to 80 even if you have new tires, rims and coilovers and your alignment is good it definitely the lower control arm bushings!
I been planning to buy a IS soon and I've been researching all the issues. The alignment thing is one problem I hear a lot. This video finally showed me what everyone is talking about. Great job.
These bushings were designed with a bit of comfort in mind. Personally, I think they are a somewhat too soft for any performance oriented car. However, you also have to be careful replacing them with ones that are too hard. You might then run the risk of compromising ride quality and handling.
You'll need to replace them with harder ones if you want your front tires to last longer. These LCA bushings wear out the tires too quickly
@@TorontoDrivers416 I eventually replaced the OEM bushings on my GS350, with the ones from FIGS Engineering. There was a clunking which was definitely coming from the one on the driver side. I thought it had gone bad, but upon inspection, the cavity in the bushing and the spindle from the LCA both had a bit of dirt and corrosion, caused by what appeared to be water seeping inbetween. I must not have re-torqued the nut properly after lowering the car. I cleaned everything and now I have a pair of OEM bushings lying around in very good condition.
That said, the FIGS are definitely an upgrade where a tighter steering is concerned. The wandering I used to feel in the steering, especially at lower speeds is now gone. However, the ride has become noticeable harsher, as road imperfections are now more pronounced. I guess it's a trade-off I'll have to live with.
Thank you so much. Now I know my suspension problem.
I saw an upgraded bushing .blue color rubber .supposedly dramatically effects handling. They say it's a must to change out to better the cars suspension and handling
PE pushings. They will make it perform better but it you will lose compatibility
Where did you mount this camera? Nice work
pretty cool idea to use a cam. What camera did you use?
Does the rubber in this control arm bushing break down over years? My 2006 RX330 has wheel shimmy all the time now plus extra shimmying when breaking at any speed. Brand new brakes did not correct the situation. So now I suspect the control arm assemblies.
Have you gotten an alignment for your RX? They tend to go out of alignment often. Also check your bushings and ball joints, its of the age to get them replaced.
How does the worn LCA inner bushing cause a clunking sound? Is it hitting metal? Thanks.
Thats normal as long as you dnt hear any weird noise . you dnt have to worry about it
definitely normal
Did you replace this part? and if so which part did you replace it with and did you notice any improvement? I just changed mine with new ones off ebay. WTF i think its worse than what I had before as the rubber is softer than the 10+ year old ones iv had
You should have gotten them from Rock Auto. It's better quality and half the price. I just purchased caster arms #2 for my 98 Lexus GS 400. The local auto stores wanted $168 each. I paid $64 each from Rock Auto.
@@djbhe Is the ride stiff or comfortable after installing them?
@@is4life862
It's comfortable like the original ride of the car.
@@djbhe I went on Rock Auto and they dont have them for my car. 2010 IS350 RWD.
@@djbhe hey man I have a gs400 with the same problem how hard were they to replace?
Does this make clunky sounds when braking or playing with the accelerator? Was testing an 2007 350 and everytime I accel or deccel it make a clunky sound like bad engine mounts.
Yes it does
Do you feel vibrations in your steering wheel too?
Little but ended up not buying it cause of that
If they are worn out, it potentially could. It's basically a rubber wear item and the OEM ones go eventually. The one in the video is in alright condition though. The OEM one has a lot of movement and dampening.
Isn't control arm bushing suppose to move like that?
nol
Just for youtube - ok tank you. With the worn out bushings as shown in vid here can this cause steering to looses or sluggish? What I mean is will this affect steering?
yeah it'll effect steering. This is just a worn bushing, not much worse than an original bushing found in these cars.
Just for youtube ok thank you
there are cars that come as bad as this from the factory, brand new. It's find for a commuter car.
If you want to do any sort of performance driving at all, this is bad. It messes up your steering a lot and your suspension geometry a lot. There's a noticeable difference between these and some performance bushings.
Figs it is
You need to fix the bar away
