Unfortunately there is no aluminum tower retrofit for the 4.2L. The underside of the intake pipe concertina area is damaged by Bank-1 exhaust manifold heat rising. It carbonizes and will just slough off. I am always interested in knowing more about things that go wrong on our X100s so as to add them to my XK8 Bible located on John's website..

So I watched your first show, and already you have mentioned brake light switch. The switch has been swapped, the last thing that broke was the transmission range sensor. My inside mirror broke, the left headlight has been replaced. Also I replaced all the solenoids in the transmission. Right now the car is like new!

Hi John. Yes, the "community banter" was excellent. Thanks for facilitating it via your videos.
I have experienced the aerial issue, and solved it the exact same way you suggested.

Another review of what things have broken on the 4 jaguars that I have had. (soon to be 5!)
    1. Water pump housing: Possibly a leak on one, but also could have been condensation.
    2. Brake Light Switch: So far so good on all!
    3. Valley Pipes: No issues, a couple cars already had all hosing replaced at one time.
    4. Antenna: Two have been squeaky / loud, fixed with cleaner and grease.
    5. Intake Holes: My first repair on an XK8! Brittle plastic can make it snap instead of bend. I check this first whenever I get a new jag, but I've only had the issue just once.
    6. Green Shower: On my first XK8 (of course I didn't notice it until I had the car home.)
    7. High Level Brake Light: Every single car. On coupes the plastic is broken and the darned thing has already made itself into two pieces. On convertibles the top piece likes to come off. An easy enough fix, mostly due to the California heat!
    8. Ashtray: Two cars, never used as my Bluetooth gadget requires it to stay open.
    9. ABS Module: An abs light on my upcoming XKR I haven't diagnosed yet, but not one of my jags have had that cool abs cover.
    10. Windscreen Drain: Plugged with dirt and leaves on a couple xk's I've bought, but no further issues!
    11. Washers: Operational on all cars, however I have had a broken hose to the washer.

Hi John, great channel, I have a 2005 X100 XK8 with the following issue
When I open the passenger door the window drops as it should but when I release the exterior handle the window goes back to full height preventing the door from being closed as the glass catches on the soft top, any ideas please, I have done the usual window reset .
    Thank you

Great video once again John. The electric aerial was also fitted to the early XK models. My 2007 has one. They were deleted in 2008. Are you going to Gaydon John on 28th July? If so I will look out for you.

Another very useful video thanks John. You have already kindly responded to my question in writing, but it would been great if you could do a video on how to top up/change the hydraulic fluid for the roof mechanism. There is nothing useful I can find on CZcams. It’s very valuable to be able to sound ‘knowledgeable’ when talking one’s car to the garage. If you get my drift! Thanks again.

Good video! I am just about Go out and try to repair the failed front wheel bearings. The right wobbled enough to take out the right brake disc, so I’ll go ahead and do the fronts, and also the drop links and upper wishbones as per your recent videos. Many thanks from Scottsdale!

Thanks a lot for another very interesting video, John - not so sure though if I want to know all the things that will break on my beloved Jag 😄 And thanks for showing Sir Gatto, which btw was on display at a classic car show last weekend and got a lot of attention - despite being positioned next to a blue E-Type V12 convertible with open bonnet 😄 Before the show I thought that the X100 might be a little too young for a classic car show, but I was very surprised by the positive response and the amount of admiration our X100s get! 👍

I show mine at classic shows and get a lot of Etype owners making enquiries about the driving experience and the cost of ownership. I know one has since swapped to an early XKR convertible. and One who has suplimented his Etype with a silverstone coupe.

tsk tsk John as an ex certified approved electrician who on earth did the wiring in your garage, tut tut.
    I have a 1999 XK8 Convertible with a stick antenna.
Like you I use WD40 to clean and lube the aerial but it's a catch 22 as WD40 holds the dirt, OH BUGGER
Other items broken, the Jaguar V8 covers are often broken, the Front spoiler is usually damaged or missing and octopus hose which I believe I mentioned previously.

🤣. When I was an Apprentice at GKN, there was an expression that I picked up and still use today on occasion. 'Oooh I'm as tired as two electricians'
I think it was born out of the surly attitude of our in house team ('Well I could but id have to get the ladder out and its nearly brew time") etc.
A GOOD TRADESMAN IS A RARE AND BEAUTIFUL THING. Im keeping my eyes peeled😁

I think the use of plastic in the cooling system is an appalling reflection on the paucity of engineering and design these days. As well as my XK8, and two other classics, I use a BMW E46 as a daily driver. 2-3 years ago, I was left stranded at the side of the road in the E46 because the top pipe on the radiator is plastic. It clips on to the rad and they are notorious for cracking and dumping the coolant. There is no viable alternative- so you cannot eradicate this well known weak point. Fortunately, my XK8 has an alloy cooling tower. Cheapskate, third rate engineering in my humble opinion. My 52 year old Rover P6B 3500, and 40 year old Capri have no such inherent designed in weaknesses.
