  • If you're thinking about switching to an Omnipod Insulin Pump and want to get a feel for the process of changing an Omnipod, this might be the video for you!
    As mentioned I don't yet have the Omnipod Dash - new users will not get the PDM seen in this video. However the process for changing the pod is pretty much the same, so I hope this is helpful.
    This video is NOT an instructional guide; please consult your diabetes team for the correct training.

      Not sure what cream you're using. Many people know EMLA, but LMX4 is much faster working and it often the standard in pediatric ICUs. it's 4% Lidocaine.

    Hi Jen. Thank you for this video. I am about to go on the Omni Pod 5 with Dexcom 6 system. I have been using tubed pumps for ~23 yeast now and the current setup is not working for me. My Endocrinologist believes that the OmniPods algorithms will make a huge difference for me. I am super excited now after watching your video. This is going to be a huge game changer for me!!

    Hey Jen, thank you for your video. You did a great job explaining. I've been using t:slim pump for a few years and met someone at the shop who uses Omnipod so I wanted to look into it. I'm up to 7:58 in your video so forgive me if you cover this later, but when you inserted the syringe to the omnipod you didn't show where and I'd love to see the side of the Omnipod where you inserted this. Thank you! x

    Congratulations for your video Jen!! This equipment is really good. If you have the opportunity to have one, congratulations! Here in Brazil the cost is very high. It costs ~ U $ 650 to import. But it should be accessible to all diabetics. I'm using freestyle libre here. When I travel to England I want to buy Omnipod. I will make it and I will have a better life with diabetes!

    • @zarasbubble1748
      @zarasbubble1748 Před rokem

      Unfortunately it’s not that easy here. You’re not able to just buy it directly. 😢
      I’m saying that as personal experience as I wanted to buy a pack to try and see if I like them. They require a letter from a UK endocrinologist (from the hospital) that confirms they’re happy for you to use it (even if you’re paying for it yourself.)
      The kit is also quite expensive.
      £250 for the PDM (unless you can get a second hand one from somewhere) and then 10 pods that last you a month max are £250 as well.
      Unless you meant $650 for 10 pods to import? In which case that is very expensive! Even worse than our cost! 😢

  • @Carol_Pearson
    @Carol_Pearson Před 3 lety +1

    I had been putting close to 200-250 units in my TSlimX2, but I normally use between 90-115 over a 3 day period. I would then pull out the remaining insulin and transfer it, plus a bit of new insulin, into the new cartridge. But, I found that after 2 or 3 cycles, the insulin would start not working effectively (body heat over 9-10 days right next to the insulin pump since I wear it right next to me), so I'd have to waste nearly 100 units every 10 days. A bit of a problem given the insulin situation in the US, so now I put closer to 130 or so in, and after the 12 units needed to fill the tubing, that gets me close to what I need for 3 days.

    • @zarasbubble1748
      @zarasbubble1748 Před rokem

      I think that the best way of doing it, just put in what you need really. No waste them and no insulin deterioration 😊

    How do you like wearing your Dexcom on your arm? That's usually where I have mine, even before it was "approved." (Dexcom adhesive reacts badly with my abdomen... The pump adhesive does not, so I often stick those there.)

    My daughter has been on the Omnipod for 3 years. She doesn't have alot of body fat so she uses her arms ALOT.
    She now has really bad intentions. Asked the doctors what it was. No one could tell us. Even an Omnipod rep hadn't seen it before. Finally one Omnipod rep was at the office during one of our visits and said it was atrophy (sp?).....
    Has anyone else experienced this or know if this is correct. It looks horrible. She will sadly have to stop using them.

      I wear mine on my arm. I would speak to your doctor but mine recommended that as a possible spot. I know people also do thigh but I have scar tissue there so that is a no go for me at least

  • @EyeIn_The_Sky
    @EyeIn_The_Sky Před 3 lety

    Now you have been on these for a while would you go back to needles?
    Is it marginally better barely worth the faff or is it a revelation for you?

    • @captcephalopod2988
      @captcephalopod2988 Před 3 lety +1

      I can't speak for her but maybe I could give my experience. Having been on several pumps and gone back and forth using needle injections (American insurance issues, etc.) I can say that the pumps are worth so much more faff than the omnipod requires. I was on a very early model of insulin pump that required daily changes and was way more complicated and even still was worth all the hassle. I know now that there is even a pump, the Tandem, that can pair with the Dexcom G6 that will alter insulin feeds to adjust blood sugars. Genuinely pumps are amazing and save on scar tissue build up. I highly recommend them. But as with all things talk to your doctor, see a pump educator, see different site examples, and make a decision that works best for you. I love mine and my daughter will be getting her first one soon. Wish you the best on whatever decision you make!
