- Joe Biden may have initiated a bizarre diplomatic row with Papua New Guinea after suggesting his uncle was eaten by cannibals there.
The US President recounted the story of his aviator uncle, Ambrose Finnegan, who died during the Second World War in a plane crash.
Mr Biden had been visiting a memorial near his Pennsylvania hometown, where he honoured his late uncle.
In a statement, Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister accused Biden of disparaging the island nation by ‘implying his uncle had been eaten by cannibals’.
