Krampuslauf Graz 2010

- Around 300 scary, dark figures strolled around the Grazer Krampuslauf and were accompanied by a heavy snowfall and numerous visitors through the Grazer Herrengasse.
Many thanks to Jagabluat and JBL Musikverlag (www.jagabluat.com) for permission to use the song "Gruß vom Krampus".
In Austro-Bavarian Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat, half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. Regions in Austria feature similar figures and, more widely, Krampus is one of a number of Companions of Saint Nicholas in regions of Europe. The origin of the figure is unclear; some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated a pre-Christian origin for the figure (see Germanic paganism).
In traditional parades and in such events as the Krampuslauf (English: Krampus run), young men dressed as Krampus participate; such events occur annually in most Alpine towns. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten. @sirbandersnatch
This is awesome. The falling snow adds to the dark, wintery atmosphere of the parade.
People who hate Christmas: “Ugh. I hate this time of year. It’s so cheery and saccharine.”
Austria: “Nah.”
THIS IS OT AUSTRIAN ITS A GERMAN TRADITION!
@@henrysimmons4939 It is Austrian and Bavarian and clearly not German
@@Makei-uz8mz They also do this in south Germany. I know this because I've been to one.
@@henrysimmons4939 Was it terrifying?
@@Pedro-nt2ro Kinda. Once you know its fake you get used to it.
The Europeans know how to parade.
We trully do 😈
Those costumes are amazing!

I've made a similiar video about the Krampus of my city! Take a look if you want =)
Awesome, yes
Yeah pretty scary stuff

American Christmas parades: Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, 🎶🎶
Austrian Christmas parades: demonic growling and drums
Yeah dont worry Austria soon will be islamic, so wont have none of that lol xD
@@rolydio bullshit !!
in austria this is an old regional customs ! to keep away the bad side from the new year..
Santa Claus is the same as in America, this is just a diffrent holiday and not crithsmas.
@@Gajci Well actualy, the closest to Santa Claus that we have in Austria is the Nikolaus, who shares a deep connection to the Krampus here, the christmas gift bringer is the Christkind
I need to go to Austria next Christmas
+Mark Oglesby NO you shoudn´t go that´s very scary I hat this time in Austria
+Tommaker It has to be scary. But it's awesome. Hated it as a kid, love it now. It's just sad the last time a saw a Krampus or Perchte is like 15 years ago..

Tommaker Australia isin't that scary! Kangaroos are harmless! All I wonder is why is it snowing in this video if Australia is in the south...
The little kid who is not scared but seems rather pleased and excited @ 2:54?
Way cool.
Was soo cute was smiling as he was being picked up!!
He just had this look bye mom.. no fu**s given
You're of the devil just like Krampuslauf! Read the bible and be saved.
I love how a lot of adults seems scared but most of the kids are having the time of their lives. Kids love monsters.
Nah austrian kids just built different if that was me i would litteraly died right there
To be fair - it's more calmed down nowadays. It was much more violent in the past (and still is in some smaller villages). There are actual support groups for traumatized adults, who avoid going out around Christmas.
@@canuzzi Omg seriously? That is horrible. I feel with them. :( :( Why do they do such things? WTF is wrong with this world?
most of these krampuses are actually the dads of these kids so they aren't that scared because they know that it's just their father
@@Yazume That makes the kid being picked up by Krampus even cuter.
Krampus is like a walking Beyond Scared Straight Holiday special
1:01 Santa: oh yeah this is totally normal!
Nikolaus, not Santa
alf grebs for me it’s Santa, cuz I’m a canadian

even if you’re canadian, santa and nikolaus are two different people lmao, they’re not different names

Their Christmas parades are more bad ass and evil than our Halloween parades.
Das ist richtig!
You don't know what you're talking about. This is not a Christmas shows, because this show is taking place at the time of advent, this has far deeper tradition than your commercial Halloween
J😬😠😠⛪hkkmn
Krampus are not on Christmas, they are on Saint Nicholas (Nikola) day (which is also in December). In Slovenia and Croatia (legend says) that they are coming because of bad and problematic kids.
In my place, it is traditional to have a parade of Krampus once every year.😊
They are traditional part of an Croatian, Slovenian, Austrian... culture❤
You a riogione
and we have to krampus but czech called čerti
Christmas has Nothing to do with Christ....all origins are PAGAN

@@chorusfrog2548 it's litterary CHRISTmas, the day Jesus Christ was born.
The real nightmare before Xmas. I had to say it's fascinating.
example of the origins to some traditions of xmas that are hidden from Americans
Chorus Frog blame the "church" 😒
Leaders of many churches will be held accountable. "My brethren, be not many masters (teachers), knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation." KJV James 3:1 ...If they know the TRUTH, and many do, and instead choose to hide it...well yes those church leaders are in trouble.
Most churches are 501c3 businesses...frankly they are NOT churches...they are businesses and would NOT make it if not for xmas giving.
Until recently and due to the internet, most people did NOT have access to mass information....that is changing radically and NOW people ARE starting to learn they have been LIED to
This is not xmas this is Nicolaus I don't know what he is called in English...
@@MsM4 He is called Saint Nick, Ole Saint Nick, Santa Claus...all part of xmas

My mom and I want to go to Austria to see these parades!!! This would be awesome to do in the uk. Sadly, it wouldn't be appropriated as most would deem it too scary but I don't care this is so awesome and looms so fun and the costumes are phenomenal ❤️ 💖 ♥️
Theres a Krampus run in Whitby

That fact that actually looked this up, and watch it..

this is so cool, I love to see such different cultures represented on platforms like youtube. it really makes me think about how different the world it outside of my bedroom. you know, sometimes when I sit by myself in front of my computer I feel like the world is small. Like I can visit countries like Krampuslauf Graz 2010. But in reality, as in, in the real world, I cannot. I'm trapped behind a keyboard and a mouse(pad) that limits my ability to touch the fur of a Krampuslauf Graz 2010. I can't smell the breath of a Krampuslauf Graz 2010.

Year after year! Every time I watch this video I love it more!!
scarier than halloween man this is real for real scary
I love just how much goes into this celebration. How much fun everyone seems to be having. As well those who are the Krampuses and the different types of the outfits while staying true to what Krampus looks like. You can scare kids and get away with it and at the same time just have fun cause no one will know who you are. My dad would be freaking out at this to which i torment him all the time as he grew up with off the boat German grandparents who spoke German 90 percent of the time and from what I can understand/figure out is that while he may not have heard of Krampus his grandparent may have used something along the lines of him to scare him. The only time i have ever seem him 'scared' in his own way as well as the movies where he will not watch with us.
I would also be taking pictures with every Krampus there was.
Just seeing the faces on those little ones is priceless we need this parade in the USA wake some people up
No you ruin everything
If this was done in the US- the customes would be half assed, all krampuses would be carrying a corporate banner and passing out pamphlets for loan refinancing , with a 30 min space between each section of the parade
Corporet Krampus sounds awful.
Thank you for this video. It never fails to work on kids when they dont want to go sleep.

They don’t just beat them, they eat them.
Funny thing is the christians used this myth for their purpose. It's ancient. Older than the bible. If you ever come to the German/Austrian alps Check it out
@@robwatzmann1998 not really, nobody really knows how it originated, but the modern version we got here is not that old.

@@X3r1t Well, Satan doesn't like you. As the prophet Isiah said, when we get judged by God, God will judge us as filthy rags.
What many of you dont know is that Krampus is Santas companion. Well at least in folklore. And Christmas is actually a pagan holiday but made commercial by Christians.
I would like to attend to something like this one day.
das is wirklich n sehr schöner zusammenschnitt und tolles video geworden
Omg this is so cool I’d love to go here and see the parade maybe get some selfies with Krampus
the nazis banned krampus. they knew he was coming for them.
Did they actually ban Krampus? Do you have a Source for your claim?
I couldn’t imagine that, since they wanted to preserve their culture. So the ban seems very wrong in place, unless the idea from Krampus is non-European.
I think he was joking, but they weren't keen on Krampus:www.stufftoblowyourmind.com/blogs/war-on-krampus.htm
Sometimes I think Krampus is Santa's demon brother.
Now this is a Christmas I’d get down with

When you can't get enough of Halloween when it's Christmas
hahah yesss, but this is actually a different fest! some european countries like the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, some parts of Belgium France and Spain, celebrate this, it’s called Saint Nickolas. it starts somewhere in november and ends on december 5th. children get pressnts throughout the whole fest so that is like 20 days! i hope i informed you about it since it’s really hard to understand haha
I really need to attend this.
Wow this explains so much about our family now that I know that _this_ is the culture they were coming from. It totally fits. Lol

It is like a celebration of Christmas and Halloween put together all in one. Knowing what I know this is too scary. God bless you all.
Christmas and halloween are both of the catholic church, both are unholy. God bless you as well, for knowing this is of the devil. Does God approve of Christmas and Krampusluaf? NO!!!!!!!

European people (I'm English but include me and mine) do not listen to the lies that we have no culture no tradition the point is we have the most vibrant and alive which is why it's constantly attacked and attempted to water down.
Yule, winter solstice, Christmas (if you must) is a festival of major importance to our ancestors and you must work hard to keep the real yule tradition alive in your children.
