    Great review. I'm one year into ownership of a Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins Big Horn in white with the Night Package. It's my storm trooper. :) I tow a 2K lb trailer and an 89 K5 with a lot of armor and gear, somewhere around 10K total. The tow/haul with auto exhaust brake mode is awesome, example: descending 6% grades for 8 miles (white towing) and only touching the brake pedal 4 times is relaxing and saves the brakes - it works like a downhill cruise control. Laramie and Limited are definitely nice trim levels, but I agree, can be over the top for my purpose too. A daily driver, but indented to haul, tow and camp out of, yet still a trim package which gets oodles of complements.

    • @specforged5651

      I guess you’ve completely missed the point of a HD truck. You buy it for the diesel (the reason they are sold 9.9/10 over gas) If you need the payload, you get a Dually.

    • @stevewhitsett7744
      @stevewhitsett7744 Před 2 lety +3

      @@specforged5651 That is such a dated and ignorant opinion. The 6.4 Hemi gives you 410 HP and 429 FP of torque along with 1000 pounds more payload capacity over the cummins. Combine that with the fact that you don’t have the maintenance nightmares associated with the diesel emissions systems and of course a purchase price that is about $10,000.00 less than the diesel means that your default position should be to get the Hemi. My 2019 Bighorn Crew cab 4wd has a payload rating of over 3000 pounds and a tow rating of over 14000 pounds. There is definitely a place and a need for a diesel, but especially with a Ram… it should really be paired with a 3500.

    If you're buying a 2500, stick to the hemi. There's no real reason to buy a 2500 with the diesel because the payload just isn't there. Plus the mega cab and ram boxes also eat your payload. If I remember correctly a hemi crew cab without the boxes has about 1450lbs more payload than the cummins megacab with boxes. The cummins is about 700, the cab about 550 and the boxes about 200. The 6.4 hemi is still capable of towing in the 12k-14k range and anything above that you should really have a 1 ton, especially if you're towing on the regular. If they offered that 5.0 V8 cummins in the ram HD, it would save about 200lbs and probably net a slightly better fuel economy from smaller weight and displacement.

    My family and I bought a 33ft travel trailer on a whim without doing any research last week. The salesman told me my 2017 F150 v8 5.0litter w/ tow package would have no problem towing it lol. It was a little bit of a struggle when I hit some big hills on the way home so I started to research about tow ratings and all that. The dry weight of the travel trailer is 6,660 LBS. I'm looking into getting a ram 2500, but its hard to find one in stock and they are so expensive. Do you think it's a "must" to upgrade to an HD truck? My max payload is around 1700 lbs I think, and I'm pretty sure I'm exceeding that just putting the trailer on. Also, do you have an informational video specifically about tow ratings? Any advice is helpful. thanks

      I tow a travel trailer that size and I went with the 23 ram 2500 cummins. I had a 19 f150 ecoboost and the wind from passing vehicles just moved it all over the road. The 2500 stays in place when cars pass and hitting bumps when crossing bridges. The power was never a problem with the f150, just the truck was so light, 4900lbs vs the ram at 7700lbs.

      @Fisher Montgomery you can go up to a 10800 GVWR on F250 as well (with diesel, and trims up to Lariat I believe)…GM is up to 11300 GVWR. At that point though on those trucks, it seems logical to just pay another $1k and move up to a 1 ton anyway. As far as I know, there’s not a lot of benefit of the Ford/GM 3/4 tons…where as the Ram 2500 has a better unloaded ride because of the rear suspension. I tested a Big Horn diesel (nicely equipped) that had a payload of 2100 lbs. Not great, but as long as it’s not too loaded, it might still make sense for some.

      The 3500 has an extra stiff set of leaf springs vs a 2500 ...So a set if air bags and you have the sane truck as a 3500 but have softer ride when they're set lower . And year your 6.4 is " rated" for the weight and they are slow as fuck pulling a hill .

If you lease that luxury vehicle the government wants that 10 percent luxury tax up front first.so basically your first down payment will be minimum $10 thousand dollars to the government. It’s about time that the really rich people start to pay more taxes. The 3/4 ton trucks have a maximum GVW of 10k pounds. Subtract the weight of the truck and what is left is your payload. This truck must weigh roughly 8500 pounds. I have an older F-250, regular cab, two wheel drive with a gas engine and it's payload is over 4k pounds. The empty weight of the truck and GVW limits are the issue, not it's capability.

    • @jimmy450r
      @jimmy450r Před 3 lety

      The 10k is for classification through manufacturer. The Ram 2500/3500 SRW share same frame, axles, brakes, motor/trans (non HO) Ram just classified due to bureaucratic reasons. The coil springs are the only real difference 2500-3500, add air bags and you can easily overload on paper and still be well within the trucks abilities
