Im heading to Maker Faire this weekend, Should I make a video/vlog about it?
Got a cool idea for the Science Fair but cant make it? Share it below!
the best memes are the ones that start with "florida man"
You need to put a rotating plate in the bottom of the microwave and cover it in grapes cut in half with a tiny bit of skin left between them, they create plasma and then when they break they propel themselves away from each other actually you should team up with physics girl to answer why they push themselves away from each other when after the plasma burns the center part out.
I don’t think the snack worked because the small microwave stops microwaves coming in add out and the the mini microwave broke so the microwaves where just being deflected
The odds are with me now, I just came back after a year, how SHOCKING

I'm thinking if you place the magnetrons at a distance proportional to microwave wave length, than maybe they amplify each other better. Or they might not! the other option would be to have some reflective surfaces in front of them to randomize the output a bit more as they do in some microwaves. That would steer the waves a bit more especially if the surfaces move.
ALSO! to get larger sparks from the foil, don't ball it, but leave strips of foil close to each other and that should look more magnificent!
AND... no I'm done
[Edit] oh wait! to see the wave pattern in the oven you could leave a cardboard box in it for 10 seconds and look at it with a thermal camera

*Florida man creats a second Chernobyl*
the radiation that destroyed Chernobyl was ionizing radiation, that's gamma rays, uv, X-rays, etc. While this radiation is non-ionizing, infrared, microwave, and radio wave. ionizing radiation knocks off electrons from your dna which makes them unstable because of their small wavelength. Nonionzing wavelengths are too big so they don't have that ability

My GE microwave from 2005 finally crapped out. At first czcams.com/users/postUgkxO_Bc204MGjxDl87cOKcdgaRhzSqGmv_g I was unsure because I was looking for something with the exact same features. Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!
"I might not look like it, but I actually kinda know what I'm doing sometimes." This is my new life motto 😂😂

Also, I wonder if making the microwave chamber larger ended up boosting the power or decreasing it. Because microwaves do bounce off of metal, so it's not like a lot of energy would be escaping by making it bigger. But on the other hand, the same amount of microwave energy in a smaller space might mean the microwaves are in more frequent contact with the object inside.
This is awesome, and I loved it, I would have just changed one thing, I would make a mark 2 or v2 with a magnetron on each side of the cube, so there’d be 6 total. I know it’s overkill, but it would be cool to see how items react with that many microwaves hitting from each side at once

Electrical engineer here, you should shield the magnetrons that could be unsafe exposed like that, principally because you have many of those side by side.
also, depending on the distance you put them appart, and the phase of the waves, they might not even be more powerfull than a single magnetron, they could even cancel out each other and you'd end up with less power being transmitted.
There's also the inherent flaw in "more magnetrons=more power" I see no evidence he's running 40 amp service to the megawave.
Can pretty clearly see the lab power supply registering 24v, 1 amp, but it's also clearly not powering the magnetrons.
It's the mesh washer that does most of the emitting. Still tho, there's about 20 things wrong with this setup. :0)
I honestly feel like he want fully powering the circuit as is anyways. A regular microwave pulls roughly 12-16 amps at 120V and NA breakers pop at around 20Amps so there’s no way he was running all of them at full power, unless he managed to tap multiple breakers across his house.
And then, as you said, you can’t just bolt a magnetron to a surface and hope it works. Regular microwaves have physical wave guides and rotate just to evenly heat. Now you point multiple magnetrons straight into one direction, all with differing brands, power levels, and possibly even slightly different frequencies, it a miracle it worked at all
I have no idea what you guys are talking about..
I'm just here to look smart.
came here for this. i"ll bet the unshielded magnetrons were leaking. he should have covered them with metal.

Lighters will never explode unless you break the entire containment space for the gas simultaneously. This is something learned as a... wayward child. Small holes especially melted ones, near an ignition source, always give a flame thrower. I think the burning gas melts the edges of the hole and makes them reseal. The classic method requires a small bit of skill to hit the ground right, like knife throwing, but you throw the lighter in such a way as to hit the plastic base against the ground and shatter it all in one go. We always used to joke about throwing it down next to a candle... but never tried it. Maybe you should. Just... insert an appropriate disclaimer here. :P

This so ironically beautiful ...thanks~!
3:21 no, this is not normally what it sounds like to be inside a running microwave, the reason you hear that low pitch sound is actually a lot cooler, as you may or may not know, microwave radiation and tech do not mix, what you were hearing was the microphone and camera reacting to the microwave radiation, luckily it was mostly undamaged, but if it was inside the microwave, it would have broken it
The body of the regular Microwave oven protected the contents from radiation, the same way it protects us by stopping it leaking out, and because the radiation from the Mega Microwave oven killed the regular oven before the 2 minutes were up, it was barely cooked at all.
prizegotti yeah I'm not sure why he thought that would work. Should have at least taken the door off the inside one.
Yeah, he should have had a ‘duh’ moment at some point.
I don't recommend eating those microwaves, they're undercooked.
I don’t know much about this type of thing but wouldn’t the Hot Pocket be a little more cooked because the other microwave stopped working. Wouldn’t the microwave stop blocking the radiation after it’s dead. Or maybe it depends on when the microwave stopped working.

If just mount magnetrons to a box like that it usually never works properly, because they end up cancelling each other out. You need to use waveguides, and the magnetrons have to be impedance matched to work properly.
You should microwave grapes, Flex Seal, Flex tape, a wrench, a bullet, a light bulb, Gorilla Glue, highlighters, holographic Pokemon cards, memes, and the last thing you should microwave is T-Series
Lit
Now that is savage
Pewdipie and T-Series*
Mr beast already did a light bulb and highlighters
Wait no please don’t microwave grapes
You should have extended the box to cover the magnetrons. (they would still be divided from the main chamber of coarse so you wouldn't end up with them microwaving themselves in the process). Have you ever wondered why the entire microwave is made of metal and not just the cage area that surrounds your food chamber?
That is probably why you were getting leakage issues. ;)
so cool! once I saw a video of a guy throwing grapes in a microwave oven, and created plasma. I think you should try it too

Slaps your mom. This bad girl can fit so much food in it

Llama god Your mom sure didn't
I was wondering if you just attached the magnetrons where they would fit, or did you calculate out the distances based on the wavelengths so that one magnetron wouldn't cause the others to be out of phase with it (causing dead spots), reducing the total power produced. Figuring out waveguide lengths, shapes, and sizes is a black art. Your microwave seemed to work pretty well!
Great stuff, cool experiment. 👍

Me: Wut.

Don't get me started on their attempts at electrolysis...
The prophecy _did_ state that the bringer of doom would arrive wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
A magnetron is a high power asynchronous RF oscillator. Since the RF outputs aren't in phase, this won't actually add them all together. Each magentron becomes the load for the others so most of the energy is wasted.
Microwave in a microwave will not work to heat up faster. A microwave is a faraday cage.
To keep my microwave food from hot outside and cold inside I set the power to half and cook at double the time. Works really well!
I just learned it's because ice doesnt absorb microwaves as well as water, so you get these hot spot spots in your food and its essentially a positive feedback loop. Microwaving on half power gives some time for the heat to transfer and it cools more evenly!
@@TheBackyardScientist awesome! Now I can give a good explanation on how and why i do it! 👍😉

Yes, you were the only one to notice it, because you are the only one that exists. Everyone else, all of use, are simply extensions of your own unconscious mind. This whole universe you perceive is your own being gone mad from loneliness. The truth is, there is no one else but you. You are the self perceiving perceiver. You are the hot pocket.
Nah, I'm just messing with you. You're not the real one, just another aspect of its unconscious.
JeeeeZ that's so strong, something tells me the rays are super direct
i love how he just casually breathes all that smoke
It doesnt seem as powerful as youd expect. Maybe the microwaves are out of phase and creating interference?
It's because there is no spinning plate for the "food", which would allow all waves to hit the object being microwaved.
It's because microwaves have built in Faraday cages so you don't get irradiated keeping all the microwaves in, in this case it also worked to keep the other waves out. So as soon as the smaller microwave got fried whatever is in the smaller one isn't getting any microwaves
I was going to do this years ago, but decided against it due to the high levels of radiation. At 4:25 you made me nervous. Even though it may have been unplugged, those 1uF / 2kv caps hold a charge for a little while. It takes time for the internal 10M resistor to bleed off the charge. Be careful!

@@wheaties2912 it still uses microwaves. Macrowave is a pun.
Awesome stuff as always! Better than when I microwaved a microwave. It was really hard for me to find microwaves that fit the specifications (a huge over-the-range microwave and a 600 watt microwave from K-Mart). Give it enough time and it'll catch fire (it was tough putting out the fire of the small microwave). Amazingly the glowstick I put in the small microwave remained intact.
You have to be drawing at least 20 amps with all those mags... and transformers. That extension cord has to be warm. (I work with microwaves) Our large food processing system we're designing has 16 in 1 large oven. (1500 watt each) Yours are probably 900 each. But at 115 volts compared to our 230 or 460, our next project, .. twice the amps. You should visit "The Capacitor" in future vids~. Have to have it to make the mags work. Mags need that DC like current. (And need the high voltage diode to do it)
You should have microwaved a stable flame as it creates plasma
