      Maybe I'm bad but I hit braver on Rufus in rebirth and no instant stagger.i got confused af and thought the devs just wanted us to find the new gimmick against Rufus.     I like the idea that Rufus, being ostensibly a humanoid on a similar level to Cloud himself, isn't immune to status effects like everything else on the planet is. It makes so much sense thinking about it logically, but because anyone would be approaching the fight from a meta angle of "this is boss therefore status = no" you don't know it's possible. Of course, this says a lot more about the rest of the system than it does the design of this fight. :{

    • @TheBlackSeraph
      @TheBlackSeraph Před 2 měsíci +6

      Yeah, that's one of the things I liked about the Rufus boss fight from vanilla FF7 but hated in Remake. Vanilla FF7's Rufus looked cool but was a cake walk even without weaknesses, but then again, what did you expect? He's a rich kid with a mako pistol and a pet dog and you are (supposed to be) a mako-enhanced super-soldier with an oversized sword. Remake, in its desperate need to turn everything into a spectacle, tries to make Rufus & Dark Nation into a viable threat.

    • @NoctLightCloud
      @NoctLightCloud Před 2 měsíci +8

      @@TheBlackSeraphthat's the most ridiculous complaint I heard regarding Remake & Rebirth. Imagine the oppsite were the case (an intially difficult boss made easy) - people would be MAD.

    • @TheBlackSeraph
      @TheBlackSeraph Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@NoctLightCloud not really, he's an easy boss that was pointlessly ramped up because everything in that game had to be a 10 minute epic. Considering there's at least 3 other boss fights shortly after makes the section a bit of a drag. I'm glad he wasn't cut entirely but the bosses overstayed their welcome and Rufus, who was designed to be an easy 2v1 in the original is one of the worst offenders (or at least top five).

      Y'know, thinking about it like that, I kind of agree. I mean, I love spectacle and the fight was fun as hell to me, but logically speaking, Rufus being able to keep up with Cloud even with his pet helping him out is... kind of stupid lmao. The original really got it right in that regard.

    • @InfinityZeroEX
      @InfinityZeroEX Před měsícem +1

      @@TheBlackSeraphoh no let’s not make a boring boss fight from the original better, oh no that’d be just horrible. You sound ridiculous. If you’re going to complain about something, make it about how Nomura’d the story is. Because they Nomura’d hard in both Remake and Rebirth towards the end. Still great games and the combat is stellar and there are some cool and hype moments, but they have some moments that flop as well. Basically I’m saying having a hang up on the cool Rufus fight is weird and I don’t understand it, when the ending is so much stranger. And everything with the whispers.

      @TheBlackSeraph Před 2 měsíci +1

      In the original SNES/SFC version, Vanish + Doom (or indeed any insta-kill spell) worked against virtually everything in the game. I think there are a couple of instances where it doesn't work (immunity to vanish, scripted dialogue/phases) but because it's a universal glitch where the vanish status bypassed the enemy's death immunity it's not really a "surprise weakness" - especially since I'm pretty sure most later versions fixed that bug.

      Just tried that trick on the Pixel Remaster (Switch version), and it seems like it's been removed - tried four times and it missed each time. EDIT: Oops, I was using the Time Mage version of the Stop spell which seems guaranteed to fail, not Romeo's Ballad. EDIT of the EDIT: tried again with Romeo's Ballad, and I think it *technically* hits (it's not missing), but Omega is still attacking way too fast meaning that either Stop isn't being inflicted, or it's wearing off almost instantly (for the record, I'm using a lvl 60 Black Mage to get the best Mag stat).
      On a slightly different note, Twintania has an odd weakness where he's susceptible to Twister, a randomised !Gaia attack that puts an enemy in HP critical range. Typically doesn't work on most bosses (or even a large range of normal enemies), so accidentally finding this exploit when the Pixel Remaster series is notorious for removing exploits (and adding bugs) was a surprise.

    From FF6, there's MagiMaster at the top of the Cultists Tower. Who ironically enough is susceptible to Berserk. Which shuts down his Wallchange shenanigans and overpowered spells (which deal out 2000+ damage a piece).
    Of course you still have to deal with Ultima when he's defeated (Life3, Rasping away his 50k MP, or just having 7000+ HP all work).
    If Bravely Default can be considered a Final Fantasy game, then Chrono Trigger definitely can. From that game there is Golem (and later on, the Golem Twins). They have an absurdly punishing Physical moveset (1st off is a move that halves current HP, then that is followed up by a hit capable of one shotting characters outright). The trick to this fight is the Golems copy the element of the last attack that hit it. If you hit it with element magic, it will switch to a moveset using that element (it's ATB is reset when switching to a different moveset too). Good news is all of it's elemental movesets are WAY easier to contend with. There are tricks like switching them to an element your party is resistant to, or hitting it with different elements to repeatedly reset it's ATB bar.

    I dont remember the exact details of the method, but theres a later boss fight in Bravely Second involving both Rev and Geist which is its own level of annoying as Geist will continually undo Rev's HP keeping him alive longer. Normally this makes focusing on Geist a priority, but if you drain his entire MP pool you can make the fight go significantly faster and even beat Rev before Geist. And the thing is, theres unique dialogue for beating Rev first which has some PHENOMENAL voice acting that most players wont ever hear.

    not sure if this counts but Bravely Default's fight agains Qada, Yulyana, Ominas Crow, and the summoner girl (forgot her name) can be cheesed with the Spiritist asterisk, you see their strategy was for Yulyana and Ominas to spam Reflect Firaga while the summoner uses Prometheus and Qada spams a rather cheaty full party Fire Bane, the way I beat it was by using the Spiritist's Stillness ability (which prevents ALL damage for 2 turns), chipping away at Qada every chance I could before reapplying Stillness, eventually once Qada was down it was just a matter of using some of the Spiritist's other abilities to make my party immune to fire and the rest fell easily

    auto-life and quick hit broke almost every FF10 fight anyway.... which is why the devs nerfed quick hit and made some of the dark aeons bypass auto-life with a dispel effect on their attacks (usually the strongest one).
    There's a reason why Delta Attack from the dark magus sisters was turned WAY up to eleven. You simply can't survive it.

    Funny how a similar glitch to the Mystic Quest one occurred in Lufia 2 which was also on the SNES. The strongest boss, Egg Dragon, had max hp and by using a healing item/ spell on it, you'd overflow the HP and his current HP would become that number so by just attacking it once afterwards you immediately killed it.

    While not a specific weakness in Bravely default 2 essentially every boss is vulnerable to all non KO status effects albeit with low chance and poison doesn't do much. If you use a rank 12 phantom it causes every status effect to have a 100% success rate so if you use an alchemist you can basically stunlock or my favorite fear them. Fear prevents braving or gaining BP which is huge for the asterisk boss rematches. plus if their BP is negative gr is reduced to negative it is effectively stun.

    The potion trick on Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy 8. If you have a character use a potion on him every turn it resets his ATB for some reason and you can essentially make it through the whole fight without him ever moving. I did it on the original and the recent HD remaster on ps4 and it worked on both. Squall and Zell use limit breaks and Rinoa just through all the potions lol.

      I think my favorite way to dismantle ff8 omega is taking a 255 speed and 255 magic Rinoa, take away all her magic except Meteor, give her haste & a hero drink & aura, and cast Angel Wing. Then just grab a beer or something.
      Rinoa will cast Meteor about 7 times hitting for about 7-8000 *_per meteor_* (that hits 10x per cast) before Omega gets a puny turn and bonks her for 0 damage before she repeats the process.

    FFXIV has an interesting example in one of the Extreme trials from Shadowbringers
    Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't finished the story yet
    The Extreme version of Hades is overall a very tough battle. That is until you get to the final phase. During the final stretch of the battle all of Hades's attacks leave a specific point in the arena untouched, meaning once you get to that phase the party just needs to scoot over there and start attacking. All you have to do during that entire phase is heal raidwide aoes when they happen and have the tanks take a couple of towers that spawn here and there. Otherwise you're free to just sit still and dps to your heart's content.

    A handful of endgame bosses in FFXI are so dangerous that they can wipe out an entire party if it gets its special attack off. As a result, players have decided to cheese them back by never letting them use any special attacks in the first place by constantly reducing their TP, the same system that lets players use weapon skills. It started with Cait Sith's Mewing Lullaby on Erinys, then beastmaster's TP drainkiss and blue mage's reaving wind/feather tickle on Mboze/Bumba, and the most recent example being Dark knight's absorb-TP spell cycled by the party on Aminon.

    A bunch of fights in XII can be beaten easily with specific strategies. Fafnir can't break through Reflect, so you can just stand in the corner of the area where he can only hit you with magic and then let him kill himself. The Behemoth Kings size also means that he won't get close to trees and can only use magic against characters next to them, but he can pierce Reflect. This is still a good strategy, since his spells are much weaker.
    Pyleraster doesn't have a single attack that ignores Evasion, so you can equip something like an Ensanguined Shield on a character with 2 Shield Blocks and become immune to his damage. Note that weapon Evasion is calculated separately, so something like Main Gauche and Zodiac Escutcheon won't make you completely immune.
    Yiazmat and Omega can't leave their arenas, so you can have your characters stand outside of them and just keep receiving the one character that's actually fighting. You can shoot Yiazmat from the stairs, which is far enough away that he can only carry Death Strike. I don't think you can shoot Omega outside of his attack range (though maybe you can with Seitengrat), but you can still just have a character Berserk themselves to run in, and then have someone else revive them.
    Though my favorite had to be the judge fight at the end of Trial Mode. You can use Vanish to run behind them as they approach, and they'll end up reaching the other end of the arena and just stand there. You can then use Remedy+Nihopalaoa to inflict statuses on them and Reflect spells off of a character to hit them without them noticing you.

Also (as Same had already mentioned in the comments) it makes a lot of sense he’s not immune to status effects. After all Rufus is no incredible strong, trained super soldier or a machine of anything. The fact that he’s fighting with guns and also with a gone-crazy-dog shows how much of a human he is. Hes just really afraid to get his ass kicked by an Ex-Soldier dude

    You know, it's funny how these things come to me after I've already beaten the boss. Looking at you, Rufus. I out-techniqued him, and I guess that means I'm rather good at the game for doing that, but also this was a funny surprise. Then again, my track record for overwhelming bosses with my devastating soldiers is pretty consistant. I mean, in Final Fantasy X, they give you a huge sandbox of enemies to fight with, becoming so strong as to one-hit them. After that, Defender X was never going to stand a chance. This is what happened to deal with all the Seymour fights and Yunalesca (Well, not Seymour's last fight. That one's a total cakewalk.) I grind enemies to a pulp and grin as the sheer power on display.
    You may be wondering why Seymour's last fight (Swymour Omnis) is so easy, just in case you didn't try this method out. You know how EVERY other Seymour Guado fight in Final Fantasy X has him basically spamming Banish if you summon an Aeon to deal with him? He doesn't do it in the last fight. What he does is his array of other moves, and then four elemental attacks on a bunch of turn tables that change around if you hit them. Do not hit them. Keep things largely consistant. Let him constantly give off fire spells or whatever. Because with no Banish spell and these four spells going off all the time, NOTHING he hits you with will take out the Aeon of your choice, which is likely Ifrit when he starts out with fire, and then Shiva when he switches the spells on the table, part way through the fight. That's it. You just have your Aeon physically pound him again and again, without failure. This guy, who has been a pain in the neck the whole game, goes down very easily. And don't worry about the EXP not getting around. There's PLENTY of opportunity for everyone else to gain experience here.

    Always thought it was weird how Poison could be applied to the final boss in FF13, and if you really want to stall it out, it'll die from Poison. So you could debuff it with a SAB and then turtle up for awhile until you win.
    And I do think it's funny that the gimmick way to beat the ahriman type boss in FF4 who casts Death Sentence on the entire party is to kill one of your own party members, revive them, and he'll keep casting Death Sentence and resetting the timer.

    Not sure if this was already covered, but, a ridiculously easy way to beat (cheese) Omega Weapon in FFVIII:
    1.) Have Selphie in your party.
    2.) Cast 'Aura' onto her.
    3.) Keep scrolling through her limit break abilities until 'The End' appears. Meanwhile, keep having the other two party members throw potions at Omega Weapon to reset its ATB gauge and "stall" it.
    4.) Select 'The End.'
    5.) The end.
    This might not be considered a "weakness" but the fact that Omega Weapon could succumb to Selphie's Limit Break was like, "...REALLY???"
