- DeWalt really hit it out of the park with this model. It's most versatile impact I've ever owned. Thanks to everyone that reminded me to make this video.
Check out the Torque Test Channel. I check in with them before I buy any power tool.

It's always a good day when we get a long form dose of Funk.
Amen bro
That’s a fact bro
The day isn't complete without funk
Love this dude. He’s got the grit and muted sense of humor like AvE only less camera shy.
Great to see a video that’s not a short too!
Great work!
A year ago my father took his own life, and he taught me everything I know about having a strong work ethic, knowing when not to bullshit yourself and others, and how to have fun while doing it. He was a good man, and your videos have helped me remember the things I loved about him because you two are clearly cut from the same cloth.
I'm glad to see your channel growing, I've been here since before 1k subs and I'm proud of it. Keep it strong, and remember to take care of yourself and your emotional/mental health, please.
Best to you and your family, Funk. Cheers 🍺
Sorry about your dad. That’s got to be a tough one to deal with.
Thanks for the kind words and support 😊
I strongly recommend reading up on stoicism. If you can’t control it, don’t worry about it.
@@markm0000 I'm no stoic, but I read a book or two and the few bits I picked up and folded into my life keep me from mentally spiralling and catastrophising everything. Definitely something to it.
@@capnskiddies good 👍
I'd love to see some cheap tools reviews, especially if they're put to use on an actual job over time, just to see how they hold up vs. the expensive ones. Love this channel, nice work funk
just wanna say, I showed up by force of algorithm of the shorts, and they're enjoyable, but these long form videos keep me around!
I enjoy your straightforward no bull shit approach. a lot of these style channels lose me talking to me like a salesman. people like you keep me by talking to me like a friend would talk to me !
stay humble homie!
I appreciate that 😊👍🏻
Good to see tool technology has stepped up over the years. Now you're not tied to an air compressor and dragging hoses that might get run over on the jobsite. Hopefully companies will appreciate honest feedback and work to keep their customers happy.
I work at an auto shop and we all use electric now lol
You mean battery right? Because even in an air-tools workshop, they still had power…lol
It's nice to get an honest review from a guy that actually uses the tool on the job.
You should check out the dcf891, I just picked one up last month and love it. It's their new mid torque to replace the dcf894. 600ft lbs fwd/800ft lbs "nut busting". I work on trash trucks and it can pull off the lugs torqued at 500 no problem. Replaced my dcf899 with it actually until they make a new high torque.
I saw the testing on that and it’s pretty impressive.
Thanks for the review. I still borrow my dad's impact when I need one, but as a somewhat new homeowner I've been thinking about buying my own for a while. The DCF923 has been on my radar, but since it's so new it's nice to see reviews from real world people using them a whole lot more than I ever would
I’ve been really impressed with the low profile adapters, bought a set of them a couple months ago and they’ve held up great. I use the half to three quarter all the time on my Milwaukee half inch.
I bought those adapters after i saw you demo them on tick tok, best thing i have bought in the last 15 years, cheers for that!
Nice 👍🏻 I really like them too.
Cool. I have had the Dewalt 1/2 drive compact impact wrench (brushed version) for a few years and it has been excellent. Some of my Dewalt cordless drills are twenty years old and still work.
I just found this channel watching a short of you drilling out a broken screw. Love content like this. Incredibly practical and fully pragmatic
Been in a similar boat. Tractor panels by hand were getting ridiculous. And I hated coiling up air compressor hose. My brother gave me my dcf923 for my birthday and that thing has pulled everything from lug nuts to body mount bolts. Serious torque in a small package.
I just like hearing him talk about his area of expertise
I picked up one of these because of you, it's a great tool. This thing will make easy work on big wood lags too. Thank you sir.
i recently picked up the 923b and all the new line mid and high torque and they have been bad ass in the shop. we all use ridgid impacts and had milwaukee but the new series from dewalt are definitely stronger than competition currently
I've always wondered about those torque limiting functions, cool stuff
Thank you for the link of the low profile adapter! I've told a buddy of mine about them then proceeded to not find them.. just bought a set, again thank you!
Loving the longer form videos dude! That’s some good info on the tool too
Nice to hear about life on the other side. I just retired from the Javits CC. They use 4 or 5 dozen forklifts for a big show. A few years ago they gave the lease company space on the platform solely for repair/maintainance. It's an area with fire/sound blankets enclosing it all the way to the ceiling. About 20' x 30'. Some of the forklifts are humongous for the boat show with giant blades.
I'll be getting this one to add next to my DCF900 that I just bought, 2 days ago and I'm also fixing to get the DCF513 Ratchet.
You see I'm basically putting together my DeWalt set uP^ and it so happens to be that I came into the market at the right time since DeWalt has put out some new long awaited product which works perfect for me.
I'm really stoked about it.
Thanks for that link to the Ares adapters it's perfect for my project, I'm rebuilding a 4L60E.👍🏻
I just got that today from the pawnshop brand new still in the box! I could not contain my excitement when I saw it!
love your videos, reminiscent of the older ave stuff. keep it up 👍🏻
Gotta love dewalt. They always have been good company
Thanks for the review I have been thinking about a good cordless driver for months now time to pull the trigger.
Awesome I just bought this tool and I just ordered those adapter for my 923.
I'm a trailer refrigeration tech, started off with the Milwaukee ¼ hex driver because of a sale at Home Depot. It still runs like a champ even after 3 long years of abuse however I wanted to upgrade to a stubby driver for much of the same reasons. I just purchased a 4 tool kit from Dewalt and will be getting the ½ drive stubby for free all for a little over $400, Milwaukee was only offering a 2 tool deal for $350. Love my Milwaukee tools, but definitely look forward to seeing what the Dewalts can do, can't go wrong with either or IMHO, just look for the best deal.
The recent deals at HD are pretty good. 7 tools for $529.
Damn their getting strong, lug nuts with 3/8. Impressive
I love this guy,he’s quick to call bullshit and definitely leads a first timer in a good direction, was gonna go with dewalt tools but picked up Milwaukee last week cause they had a m18 surge on sale with two batteries for 199$
I know I’m a year late but , Thank You for sharing your life with us!
I've worked with my hands most of my adult life and for whatever reason a channel like this with a real fouthmouthed guy, talking shit, and using tools speaks to me lol. You've earned a subscriber, my friend. 👍
Thanks for the recommendations on the low profile adapters. I don't know why I never even thought of them and here I was thinking I needed to buy the 1/2 version also. Definitely saved me about 200 bucks. I do have another 1/2 impact but it's also one of the big boys and hate carrying that thing around when I just want to be mobile and quick.
I got the 1/2” version and that extra meat on the anvil makes it feel solid with bigger sockets. The wrench is so short using a normal 1/2” to 3/8” adapter is a non issue. It still gets into tight areas just fine. I also got swivel adapters and it helps in really tight spots.
Another great video funk.
This channel and AvE are my favorite channels.
It's cute, might buy one. I have the larger dewalt impact you showed, they're nice. Dewalt is my go to for wireless tools
I had to pause at 0.35 because I was laughing so hard……….Love the banter big guy and keep up the good work!! 👍👍
@.30 "Fck it's like Pet Cemetery. Think I'm gonna need a priest" 😂😂😂
When I was a handyman, 30lb buckets of tools at a time is how things usually came out. Started with the probable tools
Yeah! The torque test channel is great! I sent them my old DeWalt mid torque to test! So any video you see with that, that was mine. Lol
I thought the break loose slow down feature was gimmicky but it really comes in handy when using universal sockets, you come out too fast and you end up throwing the bolt/nut across the floor.
That’s what she said hahahaha
I’m a Milwaukee guy but I watched just to hear your insight
Please do more long form review videos, we love these! On a side note, do you still find yourself reaching for a mid or high torque very often? I'm a weekend mechanic on all of my friend's cars and I think this one would be useful in 90% of my stuff, but might still need a mid torque for things like suspension components, axle nuts, rusted on bastard bolts.
Great video and I like DeWalt
Ok so DCF923 wasn’t even on the radar. But I do have a ‘gap’ between my lovely and light Makita 10.8v impact and my DCF 899.
So now I want something I didn’t realise I needed. 🤔
Thanks for the info!
Good video!
Loving your vids. I'm a Toyota engineer in the UK. Didn't know American reach trucks have two smaller load wheels ours are a larger single wheel either side
I didn’t know that. That’s actually probably a better design because a bigger wheel is less likely to get a flat spot.
Anytime Im coming home from Sloan C Center and have had a trx, i always throw your channel on because ya make me laugh, youre like me and the guys, and even watching ones ive seen before make me laugh. I love this ch.
What was that Noise Someone Doesnt Like Again? 😁
Just bought the 12 volt version to replace my 11 year old Dewalt 12 volt. Used daily as a mechanic.
Never seen them adapters before going to get me some for the home tool box
I love my dcf923, it’s my go to. Also have a 80lb tool bag haha
As always great video and Great shirt B.T.W. 👍
🤘🏻😁👍🏻
m12 stubby is the best purchase i've ever made, the only bad thing was getting m12 batteries since all my milwaukee tools are m18. other than that, torque test channel proved that the stubby m18 and stubby m12 on 3/8 dr have the same power output despite being on different battery platforms, but the m12 is a lot snugger without the big belly the m18 sticks out
Amazing Goonies shirt brother
😎👍🏻
I've always have been a fan of Dewalt battery tool but what are your thoughts on( 1), the 18v to 20 v battery adapter and (2) The non Dewalt batteries that can be purchased from the other online spot? Also to wrap up, are the higher Ah batteries better? You have 2Ah, 3Ah, 4 &5Ah. Is it a case of bigger is better?
Recommending ttc gets a subscription from me. Got one of those coming.
I just bought a DCF923 and it won’t take my lugs off. They should’ve been torqued to 85 ft lbs but the shop must’ve put them on with a air gun to like 200 ft lbs. The lug nuts didn’t even budge
Shit, I need that gun. Good to get a tool review from someone that does basically the same job as me
This thing is perfect for field technicians.
@@FunkFPV When the day comes that I buy one. I will use the battle cry of field techs everywhere when I look at the damage caused by an operator. I will stand proud. Hold up my impact gun and proudly say Get Fucked
On the rattle when hammering, it doesn't rattle around much unless the bolt you're trying to work on is already stupid tight. Otherwise, it seems to stay put.
Yeah I take this guys word over any other CZcams review Chanel on these things.
Like cmon u can’t be tellin me what’s good and what’s not if your tool ain’t looking as dirty as my boy’s over here 😅
Good stuff man
Awesome ive been enjoying my stubby its took a beating. wait we are still talking about impacts right
😂😂
Pretty cool. I wonder if the performance of the 1/4" hex drive impact could be improved by shortening the 1/4" hex to 3/8" square adapter. That's a pretty narrow section. It looks like it could be shortened by ~3/8" without having to extend the hex flats. You'd have to cut a new retention groove though for serious use. Anyway, I can't help wondering if the hex flats were extended and the length of that adapter minimized, it should gain a good 10%
Thise low profile adapters are super handy.
Legend
i got that big girl to shes a heavy one it amases me how far cordless power has come i havent used my ir air impact in a while makes me wonder what the next gen batterys will change the trades
If I wasn’t in the field I wouldn’t own a high torque 1/2. Nobody I know makes one that isn’t heavy and awkward.
@@FunkFPV im from chicago so its concidered a multi tool makes a good wepon throw it at someone
Although it in your user name. It has only just dawned on me that you do FPV stuff. Awesome. Sorry only new to the channel.
Your a great American
Would you say it is a good tool for removing and tightening relatively tight bolts (probably 100-200 ft lbs). Having an 18v dewalt 3/8 is similar to your situation where your constantly getting the 1/2 inch out.
I think that 200 ft lb range is where this gun really shines.
The b at the end is just denoting it's a bare tool. Most companies use this. DCF921B is bare tool while DCF921P2 would be a kit with 2 batteries. I know you didn't ask but you mentioned it being a pricing thing.
You need a podcast!
I don’t do much mechanical work anymore, but looking at the build id say the battery would be better placed a inch or so back, this would make the tool slimmer and allow you to get into tighter gaps. Just my thought
They have the 12v that is has more ergo's with the battery length but this 20v kicks more power out and the Powerstack reduces the battery footprint greatly too. I have both impacts and a powerstack to compare and the powerstack 3/8 is basically a mid -torque with smaller imprint or a m12;)(Which I also have). if I get the 1/2 atomic to pair with the powerstack il be cooking with gas.
That why they made powstack batteries.
Yeah, maybe angle the handle a little?
A little backwards kink at the end of the handle would be ideal. It'd force you to lie the tool down when not using it. Might keep it from cracking its head from an 8ft fall. Extra bonus.
This guy speaks the truth
I was all excited to pick up my 923… and then it died on 2nd use 😳. Sent it in for warranty work… and they lost it 🤯. They sent me a new one, and I sold it!!! Still have the 12v version… which I love
Well you make a few hundred thousand of anything and you’re gonna get a few duds.
I’ve always learned to pull the wrench until you feel a snap.. then back her off a turn and call it good
I like your shirt
dewalt puts the B designation on the packaging is only to denote that it's the tool only. and then for other types of bundles the will other designation. like the bag bundle with two 5 Ah batteries and a charger its the dcf923P2, the one battery and charger version is called, you guessed it, the dcf923P1. the version that the europeans get with the hard case and 2 batteries and a charger inside its called the dcf923HP2. just different designations to denote whats in your box that you are buying.
Although the impact wrench itself is DCF923, it is sold as the boxed product it labeled DCF923B. This is true of Amazon, Home Depot, etc. It comes with tool and belt clip, so "B" stands for belt clip. I'm half joking, but it is as good of a logic as model numbers tend to have.
@@seanlee1618 I think the belt clip comment came from the video as a joke. Seems to be the case that B is bare tool, but seems unnecessary in that without the B, it also refers to the bare tool and the kits have their own modifiers to the model number. If anything, it seems to cause confusion as people may think there is a slight difference with the B model.
AvE would be proud.
I was wondering, could you maybe do a review on total tools?
I kind of stick to what I use.
GOONIES!!!!
It's easy to get carried away with the big dog. I just stick with two ugga duggas. Might need to look into this one. I didn't know this one existed and was looking into the m12 3/8" impact but was just not sure if it had the power I needed. Whatever....
Check out TTC’s testing on these. That’s what really sold me.
1:05 that’s what she said.
😂😂👍🏻
Well unfortunately when it comes down to either closed spaces or finesse I still on an old school 18-volt dewalt impact but unfortunately I only have one battery left LOL
I just bought the die hard version from Advance Auto. It's not as compact. I've used it for several different jobs in the field. I've always been a dewalt guy myself but I had to get one asap. Like yourself I have always just used my dewalt impact as well. However I've found the die hard to be pretty good. I've not been able to really bog it down as of now. I would be interested in seeing your take on it and see your take on it. Let me know your thoughts.
Die Hard is probably a rebranded tool. Doesn’t mean it’s bad but…
@@FunkFPV I've been using the tool a lot here lately. It works really good on my Zero turn. I can change out the blades out in the field with ease now. I just recently used it on a 2016 Ford and my 2005 dodge ram 1500. I had no issues on either vehicle. The more I use it and the different things that I do I'll keep you and your viewers updated. At least until I break it or it quits. Keep on keeping on lol. You might not see it but your videos aren't just funny and entertaining, they're also very educational for those people who don't have a clue to the everyday contractors like myself. You so show the in and outs for real with no bs. We get to see if it's really worth the time, money, or energy. Not to mention the safety ones for the everyday idiots. Those are the best considering I'm a firefighter and first responder lol.
Any advice on getting my forklift skills up?
It just takes time and take your time. Accidents happen when you’re in a rush.
00:26. ANGRY PLIERS!! Watchers of Rainman Ray know what's up. 🤣🤣
I might have to melt them down and quench them with holy water
I own two of em and both freeze up from time to time on 20v batteries. Now when I use flexvolt batteries they'll freeze up in a few minutes, what gives?
Got me? I haven’t had this happen to mine
I would call DeWalt and warranty it. Seems like a faulty electrical piece inside.
Im on team milwaukee, but i fully agree its not the best in class for everything, namely for me the 18v hammer drill i think is worst in class, particularly the hammer function. But i digress, i will just wait till milwaukee makes a better small impact wrench, because theres no way out when its a battery based system, but i woul love these manufacturors to move the “chuck/adapter” to one edge of the body, which allows me to get closer to returning walls, sometimes theres no room for extentions, and universal joints can be a nuisance, when drilling through wood walls…Obviously we work around this stuff.
I think these companies would do better for themselves if they put some Proto types in working people’s hands
Almost definatly, also not sure why noone tried putting a 1/4 hex inside a 1/2 socket just to see if we actually break it, then your getting 2 drivers in one driver. Youre doing good work on the vids man, refreshing.
@@f1reguy587 bosch makes it. Its called freak impact. 1/2" anvil with 1/4" hex collet inside. They have multiple generations
Try using with power stack 1.7Ah
more power and smaller
😊👍👍👍
Is that in 3/8 drive or 1/2 drive? The impact gun
3/8
Hey Funk, if I had something I wanted to send you where would I send it?
My direct me link in the description has my email address 👍🏻
I want to see a half inch air impact guy video
I know the video is some months back. I’ll chime in and say with my experience never trust the impact to finish wheel tightening. I’ve had a few times where I made myself use the torque bar and glad I did because even after a 3 count some lugs were still loose.
Have you thought about replacing your high torque impact with dewalt's new mid torque? :o
Yes 😁 but my wallet said no
..HAAAHAHHAAHHAA!
Yeah that's the first thing I noticed too, it loooves to fall backwards. Back heavy? yup yup
The “b” you talked about means it’s sold as a bare tool. If you buy it with a battery it won’t have a b but if it’s a tool only then it’ll have a b
I bought this one tool only and it doesn’t have a B 🤷🏻♂️
@@FunkFPV oh. Well I stand corrected then.
Look at the DeWalt salesman selling me a DeWalt. Actually looks handy. Maybe I'll use one on my next cam carrier reseal. if I knew that fuckin thing was as good as it is I'da prolly wouldn't've bought the XR. haven't used that thing since I was a lube tech.
Reach trucks are fun to use but those small front wheels just wear out so fast. one day it's smooth sailing then the next its Thumpthumpthumthump
