- My favorite color recipe for painting warm, vibrant yellow. Yellow has a reputation for being hard to paint, but I'm learning to really love it! In this Quick Tips video I show how I painted up some Warhammer Age of Sigmar slaves to darkness chaos warriors and chaos knights in this awesome shade of yellow. Well, yellowish orange... whatever you call it, it's awesome! :-)

As the guy who first told you about this color recipe, I approve. Great job!
There you are! Thanks again and again and again hehehe :-)
Yes thank you. Such a tiny little thing that really helps with yellows infamously poor coverage.
I think That Robpaintsmodels did the same with his ironjawz for warhammer underworld. That said, I am really happy to see others do it too. This way it gets out to more painters. So thank you All :)
@@GoobertownHobbies You took it to the next level by adding the deep pink shadows.
Have you seen Dana Howl's videos? She's all about underpainting.
It's so weird to me how one of the most chilled out channels on CZcams is about getting little WARRIORS ready for WAR!
Theres a tranquility to painting toy soldiers.
There's a Bob Ross element of "Now here we're gonna put a dash of pink on this heretical warrior, just spiffing up his spikes of death to really give them that lush, demon of chaos look."
Pink doesn't sound crazy. Pink is kind of like a light red, so yellow and pink usually makes sunset yellow/orange.
Well when you say it like that... :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies Love your videos mate! You were a huge reason I got into this hobby. I put it off for years and years. I found your videos and it really helped me feel like i could do it. Now I love it, and I'm way better than I ever thought was even possible. Thanks for what you do Brent! You're a true inspiration!
@@ben7100 Hey Ben, this makes my day- thanks for taking the time to write this note :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies You're welcome mate. I'm excited for you're next video!
Pink is actually close to magenta, and magenta + yellow is red. That's why your printer has magenta ink and yellow ink, but no red ink.
When you think you want the Emperor's Children but decide on Imperial Fists. Chaos approved!
Hehehe, yup! :-)
I love how wholesome it sounds when you say "I love that dirty orange-yellow on these WARRIORS OF CHAOS."
I was strolling through the comments and the moment I read you comment he said it... weird.
@@ferjusto FKKK THE EXACT SAME THING FOR ME! Insane.
I was reading your comment and when I clicked off he said it XD
"I'm being patient and I'm staying calm" - somehow I don't find that very hard to believe :)
Hahahaha... yeah... :-)
Huh, I literally just came onto CZcams to find some tips on painting yellow for some House Baratheon minis I want to paint up for the ASOIAF miniatures game...and bam! You've uploaded this just a few minutes ago. Thanks man, this seems like a great approach that I would never have thought to use.
Cool!!! I hadn't even considered house Baratheon figures, that sounds awesoem- have fun! :-)
Yea, I think I'm going to do this on my Stag Knights and Sentinels.
Wardens are mostly covered in steel plate, so will probably just prime them gray with zenithol highlight of white.
Yellow Chaos Warriors, that's like double the heresy.
Quick Tip for Yellow!
OK, I've finally gotten enough use out of that footage I took of painting up that Start Collecting Slaves to Darkness box... for now.
What MASSIVE project will be in the next Goobertown video? :-)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the next BIG thing is going to be Seraphon related... You dropped that hint in a goobertown roulette video a long time ago, still keeping my eyes peeled for that one!
archaon
Massive Darkness?
Plague Marines
Id like to see fantasy troops in 40k colours, Chaos in traitor marine legions for example. Id also love to see what you can do to some Nids
If I prime something pink, it's never gonna move past that.. Because pink armies!!!!
But I am of course also the person that adds glitter and a dab of nail polish to some of my models 😅🤔
Hahahaha, "why I use pink to prime for pink" doesn't have the same ring to it for a youtube video though ;-)
Tbh my favourite ever Space marines were some 'Hello Kitty' marines I saw here on you tube.
I love wacky colours thats why all my orks are Purple!!!
That sounds so fun! I almost want to get into painting models now just to have some super cool glittery pink warriors on my shelf
The most relaxing mini painting youtuber I've found, thank you Brent
:-) That's awesome to hear, thanks for the compliment!
Oh my , sooooo true! You’re the Bob Ross of the wargaming world!
@@adamfox1669 The closest comparison
I'm in love with this color pallet!!! These are probably one of my favorite paintings of yours.
Amazing to see someone focusing there passion purely into making something more beautiful! Really great job
So the emperor's children have infiltrated the imperial fists. I KNEW IT!
Yeah that's how I understand it! :-)

If anyone wants a good yellow, I really, really recommend Army Painter's speedpaint Zealot Yellow. Despite being a speed paint, it creates a much richer and solid yellow than a lot of more traditional yellow paints. It just looks really good, and can be touched up with other yellows on top to bring up the level of brightness even more. I will try a pink base for my Wraith army though, I intend them to be yellow and orange.
Was watching this and thinking about how it would come out but I find zealot yellow is already very orange in its tone
I will use this technique in the future, it came out really good! Striking paint job and anyone would be happy to face off an army like that.
Thank you so much for this. Its the furst time I can make yellow work in a way that I am happy with the results.
just tried this. can confirm. looks amazing
This is truly an inspiration to use a daunting color for many painters. Thanks Brent!
This process could be used very easily to paint Ork Badmoons.
Oooh, there's an idea! :-)
Calming, happy and nice music.
Soft speaking
Pink, bright soft colors.
*Paints chaos warriors*
You always have great tips & tutorials! Thanks man!
Truly beautiful.
Wow, goobs, great video! Those look fantastic!
Thanks for the tips!
This technique looks stellar.
Best ever! yellow paint scheme ive seen so Nice :)
Those look amazing.
Really good to know. I haven't painted minis in ages now but I'm always thinking of picking it up again.
Brent, I've only been watching your videos for just over 2 weeks now. These Chaos Warriors are some of your best work yet. Thank you for the great colour tips and keep the awesome content coming!
Hey thanks Doug! This channel is pretty useful for tracking my progress in the hobby, hopefully that trend keeps goin in the right direction :-)
THOS IS AMAZING!! 5 different attempts and I stripped them all until I tried pink under shade. It came out PERFECT!!
I really love how this turns out. Great work. Loving everything you have done so far with the Slaves to Darkness.
Hey thanks! I'm really happy with these too :-)
Beautiful colors
Brent, just wanted to drop you a line to say that I've been really enjoying your videos and between yourself and tabletop minions you helped me take the plunge and buy an airbrush a couple of weeks ago. I'm still very new to it but I can already see that it may be the best hobby investment that I've made in years. so thank you.
Those look amazing
Always a joy.
:-)
Great recipe, can't wait to try it!
Another solid installment! Thank you kindly, Sir!
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!! :-)
Wow just wow!
Crazy eh? :-)
Every time I’m in an art supply or craft store I try to buy some white ink. Every time the bottle is chunky or a solid brick of gunk. 😭
You'll find the one, keep lookin
@Epic canadian craft stores, amirite?
Goobertown Hobbies they probably froze at some point 🥶
@@GoobertownHobbies Probably. Not enough population up here to move this sort of stuff regular. I have gotten into the habit of ordering every thing online from big US companies. Noble Night Games or Michigan Toy Soldier Co. are very good outfits with more than a decade behind them and both have expanded recently. Big inventory and flawless service from my experience.
If you're looking for something that won't chunk like titanium white ink, I've had really really good success with molotow one4all signal white. Guess through the airbrush beautifully and doesn't descend into chunks like the liquitex titanium white ink.
Thanks for the idea!!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing this!
Stunning! I'll have to give that a try on other types of projects, too.
Nice work Goob! They came out fantastic, and the use of color theory is fantastic :D
Solid transitions and happy bright colours ^^
This looks so good!
Well, that looks absolutely smashing. I'll definitely keep this in mind, excellent video! ❤️
I used this on my Cypher Lords for WarCry for the cloth, it looks amazing. Thank you for the video!
I’m just now getting back into warhammer since 2003 and your videos are so helpful for me 🤟
Welcome back! :-)
Exactly what I’ve been Looking for 🙌🏻 Subscribed! Thank you
Incredible tip Brent...thanks man
yet another reason to get set up for an airbrush too
I finally tried this recipe, and god it worked like a charm!!!!!! I now have a whole squad of beautifully vibrant yellow squigs and squig hoppers, I'm going to recommend the recipe to everyone who will listen.
Thank you for listing the colours you used. I ordered some and eagerly await doing test minis with this technique.
Nice! I'm excited for you, have fun! :-)
Great video thanks! I love the color!
And here I am again. All excited for a new video already. Thank you!
Oh hello again, good to see ya! :-)
This is information I didn’t realize I needed to know. Thanks! I seriously never would have considered a pink undercoat but this is perfect.
these models are dope! well done
They look totally BA. Great technique. Thanks for sharing!
Really interesting and think I will give this a try very soon.
I did something similar back in the 90s. I remember doing titillating pink with a sunburst yellow on a aekold helbrass model.
Wow, that yellow looks ace! Great video dude.
Amazing, exactly what I needed for all the Bad Moonz vehicles I'm working through!
Man these look awesome.
I love this channel, you’re truly a wonderful person!
:-) Love you too buddy!
Interesting, I will certainly give this trick a shot!
Man, those look great.
Gonna watch this tomorrow, but im looking towards it.
Been 3d printing for a while and getting into painting, great demonstration of technique😁👍
That was the most relaxing video of someone painting miniatures. I don't even paint or play anymore. But I'll sit and watch till the end. Great work!
Really awesome work. And interesting choice keeping the shields yellow aswell as the rest if the armor. They look really cool!
Hey thanks! :-)
That is something i never considered before but I will keep in mind. Thanks for sharing this neat idea.
You're welcome! Save this one for a rainy day :-)
I LOVE IT!
Keep up the great work man! Your videos have such a fun energy.
Hey thanks for the encouragement, will do! :-)
These look amazing!
I'm a 2D painter and I've found pink to be really useful underpaint for a number of works. It's something I picked up in art school from some abstract painters.
Very enjoyable video as always. Thanks for sharing.
But of course! :-)
These look amazing! I'm more likely to consider yellow in the future now. :) Thanks for sharing!
I'm just imagining being able to paint like that. Oh yeah such a sweet dream for one second. Man, you are a god of painting.
Hahaha, nobody was more surprised by the result than I was :-) The crazy thing is the airbrush step at least is (relatively) easy, you could totally do it!
I appreciate the audio levels of your videos. My critters can nap peacefully with your videos going. Thank you
Ah another great video. You did it again!
:-)
You are an artist my friend!!!
Thanks for the amazing videos! You inspired me to grab my first start collecting box for warhammer 40k!
Sweet, I hope you're havin fun!!!
Surprisingly, you can do a lot of things using contrasting colors; you can use something like a purple/violet ink to add shading to yellow and it gives a lot of depth, and you can do the same using red and green. Mixing contrasting colors usually gets you a rich brown which you can tint depending on which of the colors you add more. I saw a similar trick with magenta and yellow on the channel RobPaintsModels where he painted up the Orruk warband for Shadespire in that vibrant yellow color scheme and its *always* impressive to watch it happen.
Helpful pro tip, thanks
I just got home from work early with the supplies to try this thanks to your marathon, now I can watch this over lunch and get stuck in after!
That's awesome! Have fun :-)
These minis look awesome. I need to test that pink.
This looks amazing, great video!
Hey thanks! :-)
Thanks for the tips you are great
Going to need to keep this in mind for when I finally break down and get one of those big Tau suits or a Wraithknight.
Thanks for a great video. Now I want to try my hand at some yellow
You know what.. I will bookmark this.. cheers bro
Painting orange would be the correct title for this video
Wow that's a hell of a tip! This'd look great on bad moons orks
Love to see some more recipes that at first seems odd but produce a great result. Going to start a big project this summer for a kickstarter that has a lot of elves that show a lot of skin, luckily I own a airbrush and gonna steal your skintone recipe for the amazons you did :)
Thank you Brent !
But of course! :-)
IT does look incredible!! :D
I finally have an airbrush :D can't wait to try this undercoat
probably one of the better models now to display of a colour scheme
Very nice hack to use paint exactly the way light is used! I nevr would have thought of that and spend ages manually highlighting over the coat
SO DANK
Thank you for this great teaching video.., your Upstate New York Fan
Nifty trick, nice!
Right? :-)
