We need to start listening...not just hearing...when our artists and idols verbally tell us that they are having a tough time. Moon said it outright 11 days ago in a live...that was a sign right there. As fans, naturally, we can't do much...except offer our unconditional support and understanding. Also, the unwarranted criticism diatribe needs to stop! I can't believe this is happening again...I thought we had started becoming more accountable for protecting and being sensitive towards idols, especially, after Jonghyun. We need to do better, be better as fans...

There is so much we can do as fans, these idols are put under so much stress and the fact that some of them rather end their life as to talk to someone before it gets to this point breaks my heart! If he cried out for help 11 days ago, why didn't his record label intervene to help him? I see this in our American idols as well. Mental health is a real thing, even within their life.

But what more can we do? I'm pretty sure every time we see and hear our faves struggling with something, we'd want to be physically be there for them and tell them to just let it out...but we can't.:( We want to be decent people and help these struggling souls, but we can't be there other than sending our love and support.

We have to get past the stigma that people struggling or feeling emotional pain is weakness. It is not. This young man was in pain, and it breaks my heart that he felt this was his only option. A life gone way too soon, a family left broken, friends and colleagues feeling lost. Pain is real, and we have to figure out how to create safe spaces where people feel safe asking for help and we can provide love and support without judgement. Send condolences to his family, friends and members. RIP Moonbin

I don't know where you're from (I'm from Uruguay) but the issue is Korean society, which is like that!
I am really amazed by many things in Korean society that are very wrong!! and one of them is that... that people do not express what really happens to them for fear of criticism or of being seen as weak!
In the West we are not like that!
although there is still more to move forward but we are very open and understanding when it comes to mental health issues. And there is a lot of talk about it and people (for example celebrities) express themselves when they have a bad time and I think nobody criticizes them for that.
Korean society is wrong from the root! the pressure they put on young people in every way is absolutely horrible! With studies, for example, and the competitiveness is excessive.
Then they wonder why there are so many suicides and why nobody wants to have children and the birth rate drops drastically!!! 🤦‍♀️😒

I see you're a fan of bts, me too! i love bts! I'm only interested in them from Korea.
And what people don't understand is that they are also part of that circus of hiding emotions and pretending that everything is fine!
Do you think they want to go to military service where ALL the men say how bad they have it and that it was a horrible and traumatic experience??
and leave what they love to do, which is their music and the stages at a time when they are in the world top!?
Obviously they don't want to!! they must be devastated inside!! when the covid they were super sad for not being able to do concerts for years and now this!!??
and people say "they always said they're going"
They do not understand that KOREA is not Latin America or Europe and they cannot express what they really feel because they will be criticized!! they can't say "we don't want to go, we want to continue with the music" or "we are very depressed because cutting the band for years at our best is the worst"
because the Korean society would criticize them until the final day!!

The whole pain means weakness thing has to stop. That's like saying if you get punched in the gut and hell yeah it hurt, you can't show that pain. Pain doesn't mean you're weak. It means you feel something deep and it's not going away. The real weakness is the form of not wanting to be there for the ones who hurt. So many people don't know how to take pain and may think they're not suitable to deal with, or help others' pain and that's fine, but to have so many who just don't want to deal with it...that's weak. Showing some compassion isn't a weakness. It's human and it's high time for people to stop making the term "human being" such a disgusting thing.

The companies that manage them is also at fault in some cases because its scary how we have no clue how they are being treated by their respective labels behind the scene! Like the Case of Omega X! if there were no evidence of abuse we wouldnt even know that they are being abused because the members looks so bright and happy everytime they are promoting or doing lives so its really scary and sad thinking that they are happy but they are totally depressed, and more importantly they should let their idols rest and give them time to relax! because thats also one of the reasons why their idols easily falls into depression like Jonghyuns case😭😭... just how many idols are we gonna lose!! I just wish our Moonbin to rest in piece and be happy in the afterlife... We love u.. Many people will never forget how amzing you are❤..

Either way, I am truly so sorry and my heart goes out the Moonbin's family, friends and fans. This is another sad outcome to an amazing artist. I pray for all of them including the Astro members. I know that the Shiny Foundation, a foundation established by Jonghyun's family to help young artists and musicians struggling with their mental health, in honor of the late idol was established for this very reason. If you are struggling there are places that can help, most importantly don't try to handle all the struggle alone is most important part.

My heart is heavy after reading about Moonbin. Not speculating on the cause of death, but my son took his life at the age of 24. It was a painful day, that still seems as if it happened yesterday. I need viewers to understand how dangerous suicide is for the survivors. It's important to watch out for signs that we or a loved one have become overwhelmed by the loss. Check on the deceased friends and family daily. Limit what you say to them, the only safe comment is, "I'm sorry and I'm here for you." Listen 10 times more than you speak. Be prepared to hear unkind comments about the deceased. When this happens, take the higher ground. Forgive the deceased immediately, then work on forgiving yourself for all the, "what if," questions you'll have. Remember the good times, their good qualities and the love you shared. Allow yourself to live and finds ways to continue honoring the memory of them, never allowing them to be forgotten. Most importantly, remember that you are loved. Don't feel shame if the pain is more than you can bear, but do ask for help and keep asking until you find that help. Sean, this hurts, but we'll get through this together, so please allow those who care for you to comfort you. I'm praying for you all.

I'm an AROHA & I can't believe this. It's so shocking and sudden. I'm so devastated.. I don't know how to feel. Binnie was the most down to earth, humble, and sweetest idol ever, he never held back and spoke his thoughts openly. He would share everything with us and wasnt afraid to be himself in front of the cameras. Always smiling and playing around with us and his members. Last year he asked this, "There’s something I’m curious about. Everyone has idols. Then will you want to know only the side that your idol shows or do you also want to know about the side that your idol doesn’t show?
Even if reality is different from what you expected?" Now I wonder what he had in mind and how much more he was going through..
I'm so angry at how Fantagio managed astro, this is the SECOND artist from Fantagio to pass away & they don't have many artists. I feel Fantagio took so much from these boys.. something is not right.
From the beginning ASTRO never had a break from that company & their corruption. Look into their history & you'll see. It would be too much for anyone but ASTRO held on and prevailed. He had just decided to renew & now this happens.. So many different things play into this but we'll never know the truth. Binnie, you were so strong 💜💜 We will always love and remember you. He was truly one of a kind. Words can't express how great of a person he was.
I hope companies can learn to take care of their artists & I hope artists don't feel the need to be perfect. It's okay to not be okay.

I have mostly been a one-group girl (BTS), though I did get to see Epik High in Portland a couple weeks ago, given both their and your connections with them. I really hope that BTS members step up to speak out and make more high-impact art about the social disease that is our collective obsession with perfection in ourselves and our public figures, especially k-idols. I can already see Namjoon taking the lead in giving words to this, or at least I’m wishfully thinking and hoping for it. I could also see Tablo and Suga rise to this level of leadership through art. Though, in many was they already wrote the songs that speak to this. But I guess it needs repeating.

ALL of these idols (boy and idols and girl group idols) made the conscious choice to sign that contract. They CHOSE to not date or have much of a personal life for the duration of the contract (usually 7 years, which it appears Moonbin must have recently RESIGNED), in exchange for possible fame, fourtune, and adoring fans. Moonbin could have become an actor and dated who he wanted. He could have become a regular Kpop artist (NOT an Idol, which hangs on something called The Illusion of Availability to fuel their popularity). But he chose to give up some things in exchange for being an idol. Idols make money from merch and concert tickets. Would they be popular and sell merch if they didn't appear single? Sure. Would they be as wealthy and as popular as they are? Maybe... IF they wrote all of their own music, sang live without backing tracks, and were full artists, without being also idols. You have to remember that the popularity boy bands and girl groups, which translates into money for them from merchandise and concert tickets, weather you want to admit it or not, weather you want to see it or not, HIGHLY hangs on this "illusion of availability", as well as another thing called "the parasicial relationship" (think of every vlive or Weverse live you've seen where it feels like the idol is taking directly to you). This is by design. There are great kpop artists who are not idols who are extremely talented (I'm thinking of singer and songwriter Sondia, who appears on many Kdrama OSTs) who make good money on their talent alone. But if they want to make more money easier and faster, if they've got the looks, becoming an idol could be a way to achieve that. You can deny it, but it doesn't make it any less true. Think of EVERY western boy band and girl solo artist who was like an idol (like Brittany Spears). In the height of their popularity, how many of those boy bands like One Direction or Backstreet Boys, etc. had girlfriends/boyfriends? How many were out of the closet? Rickey Martin banked on the illusion of availability in the height of his career, only coming out of the closet when his popularity started to wane, as did Lance Bass. They, like all idols, understood that apppearing available (and straight) highly translated to a dollar amount. None of those groups are known to have not been allowed to date, yet none of them did date... perhaps it was in their contract. Perhaps they were just told or advised not to. Most only began to date or come out or whatever, after it was clear that the height of their popularity was on the decline. Lots of rock groups date, but they aren't idols and they don't use the illusion of availability (usually - at least not after about their 20's) as a means to gain fans and gain money from fans. I imagine that you will only hear of BTS or other groups dating once they've decided to retire as a group (30's or beyond), and still even then, it depends on how popular they want to stay. Of course they will still have fans, but girls will take their posters down and stop crashing the Weverse site fighting to buy their photo books if they're married with kids or in a serious relationship. That's the fact of Idols and the illusion of availability. Moonbin's contract must have been up this year because Rocky didn't renew his. Obviously Moonbin did, so he choice to keep going with this idol popularity and playing by the rules of the game. So the idea that he was depressed because he couldn't date (openly) or couldn't have a free and easy, social life going to bars and clubs, is unlikely.. Abd also, one reason why companies have restrictions on dating and going to bars and clubs is to minimize scandals. Where there is drinking and crowds (and sex) there's brawls, trouble, and babies. That's trouble for the company and the image of the group. No one is forcing these guys to choose to be idols. Moonbin has acted in dramas. He can sing and dance and rap. He could have done a number of things that weren't be in an idol group. It was something he chose, and if he wanted to in-choose it, he could have done that! Rocky did. He couldn't have chose to give up that fame and fortune and go his own way on his own talent. He didn't choose that, so I don't think that the industry or Kpop can be blamed any more than his personal mental illness. No one else in Astro killed themselves, nor Shinee, nor F(x), nor Kara, nor any other group, so the individual and how they personally deal with issues, stress, depression, and mental illness, is a really big factor in weather or not tbwy are able to push through problems and come out on the other side or not.

It's easy to say that now of seeing the man crying out for help of only after the fact of the poor young man. I honestly think it's hurtful for anyone to say, directly and indirectly, to express "Why no one close to him didn't see he needed help", to the very people who knew him the best. It just brings more guilt to those people, making them feel guilty for something that more than likely, they honestly didn't know about. How they're going to reflect a lot of what ifs over and over to the point they'll feel like they did something wrong. It's just another contributing mental crisis and therefore, the cycle of people taking their own lives continues. I also see fans say about how they feel guilty themselves for not seeing it as well and wish this or that. When I find that those fans are just harming themselves, mentally, for something they and for anyone to blame themselves for not seeing it. Sometimes the signs aren't present at all and it really glosses over our heads many times. And how it's just as hard for the person who is suffering in silent, don't speak or have tried to call out for help, but how it's so hard to find the right words to say they need help. It's more than just "I need help", it's something else entirely and even I can't explain it in words, but how it's a far deeper feeling; not sadness, but something else entirely. At the end of the day though, the poor parents lost their child and a sister who lost her brother.

Change does not seem to be happening quickly which is devastating. One’s head is attached to one’s body so if it is hurting it needs to be treated. There is no shame in that. The irony is that the public has been given a peep as to what the demands of the entertainment industry are, and if if anyone deserves psychological support it is entertainers. Many fans were in denial and said he's changing because he's growing up... They said we shouldn't overreact. But later he revealed that he had depressed periods and wasn't happy. He said he felt to want to be loved. I think his band mates saved him and I'm glad they lived together. He talked about it after healing. Suga openly talked about his struggles with depression and mental health too. I pray for every Idol that needs help to seek help. I'm disgusted about all the rules our Idols have. I’ve been in tears this whole week. Looking to the most recent videos Bin had been expressing his feelings about his current thoughts & it seemed disheartening that no one recognized his pain that were very close to him. When he had the platform to express his feelings to AROHA he tried to share, but held back because it was a place he could let them know how he is feeling but Apologized over that to mask his emotions. When people leave the earth without a good bye and we all start looking back and are shocked they left clues, said words, smiled thru pain and we overlooked it & we are SHOCKED. We are All living in the moment, but we can’t see that they’re crying out for help. So Check in on those around and close to you. Hear them and let them express what’s going on with themselves. Make time for them. Check in on them. HUG THEM. Reassure them and most of all PRAY with them. We may look at a person as a crutch in life but remember too that they too need a Channel to vent to and unload ALL their burdens. This is why I feel Praying is so important. Just being present with them can make a difference, but after hearing someone out and sitting to pray with them can make a change slowly from a dark place. Death can be uncertain, but let’s All be more aware and sensitive to those around our daily lives because a small distress signal can be your queue to make a difference. Mental Health is a real concern. Health & Wellness services are needed definitely for the industry in SK. I Will forever miss Bin. Definitely life will not be the same again without him and his Members and family and KPOP world. My heart hurts for them and you ALL AROHA fans around the Globe. 🥀🥹🖤 RILOVE MOONBIN

This is so sad and my heart goes out to his family, friends, and anyone who loves him and are mourning him. This young man feeling as if he had no other recourse is absolutely heartbreaking, and it leaves those closest to him questioning themselves and what they "missed", but it's no one's fault. Someone intent on ending things can even pretend everything is all right and leave you blindsided when they choose to leave you.
That being said, I've noticed that if an idol does do a live and appears to be depressed or having issues, the fans who bring it up and express concern are immediately attacked and told to stop spreading false rumors, as if needing emotional support and help is something embarrassing. Sometimes there are people who see it and want to help but their voices get buried. Regardless of that, at the end of the day, can we please be kinder to each other? Can we please stop with the toxic, insensitive behavior towards other human beings? Remember how horrible this feels right now and be KIND, especially when it looks like someone is having a hard time.
Rest in peace, Moonbin. And may his family and friends find the strength they need to get through this.

I appreciate your touching comments, sensitive and hard hitting. Sums this dear moonbin was in his way asking for help. My question is: where was the manager, who is a person close to the artist? Where was the agency whose responsibility is towards its artists welfare? Where is the help and support for these idols who work so hard under pressure for years? Well always lessons are learnt with hindsight. Sincere condolences to family close friends.

Unfortunately, I think the Korean culture is not so open about mental problems like depression and anxiety.. So managers and other people around the Idols and artists aren't really used to or sensitive enough to detect or spot these problems. They mostly aren't able to recognize the signs when an artist is already desperately crying for help... This is true of the artists' family members also...💔💔And their society is really very strict, people are super judgmental and oftentimes very harsh too. This is the sad part of their culture, I think.

Astro has had the same manager for years, who loves them and cares greatly about them. Feel free to read my comments above, as a psychiatrist and an Aroha myself. Moonbin has gotten help in the past. When he said he didn't feel well, it seemed to be in the context of something physical, since he has a history of injuries. Moonbin's leader in the group JinJin is an amazing person who also loved him and was very attentive to the needs of the group members. I don't think it is very kind to act like anyone ignored Moonbin or wasn't available to help him. He got help in the past for depression/anxiety, was treated and was supported and cheered on by his staff, his members, and the fans. Why is it so popular to blame the people around someone, as if it is certain they were neglected/ignored/not listened to? People can have depression and everyone can care and try to help them and they themselves can fight hard to live but still not make it.

We have to RESPECT THEM AS HUMAN BEINGS. I feel so heartbroken 💔 about all these young people with going through things and everyone looks at the other side😢 PLEASEE EVERYONE EVERYWHERE LOOK OUT OF SIGNS OF PEOPLE WHO CRY FOR HELP .I'm so deeply sorry and sad and heartbroken 💔 May he rest in peace 🎉

Thank you. That was a very important message to put out. You are so correct. This seems to be a big problem. They feel bad if they show any insecurities or pain ! When Moon Bin talked on stage how he could not talk to anyone,,,he can’t talk to fans , he only wants to show his best side while on stage “ it really makes you realize they want to reach out but don’t feel like they should! This is so hard and I did not want to see this again. It’s a very sad week. Let’s love each other more and be as kind as possible. Thank you again.

Trutly, thank you, for Your compassionate plea to all around the kpop Industry and the rest of the world falls on all of our shoulders. Thank you for your sincerity.
If you (anyone watching this video) see another human being struggling, reach out without judgement and simply listen. It can be that simple.. to listen and offer a hug, unconditionally. There is this breaking point in the human barrier (face) when pain leeches out and is visible.
We are almost hardwired in the world today to try to over advise and to to give answers but in the moments of someone struggling with suicidal thoughts, it can prove to cause more damage then giving simple but honest comfort to the individual(s). Listen, listen, listen and listen again, then if and when -They are ready-, offer to drive them to someone who can be of professional help. Have the Helplines in your phone for easy access if and when they are needed. It's far too easy to walk away thinking that you aren't able to help. But you are...
And as fans within the kpop fandoms, also listen offering heartfelt support unconditionally. Remember, what you state online, matters (especially positive words and the negative words do Real harm). I have a little reminder that I tell myself, "If it wouldn't be something said face to face, keep it to yourself! "(or as my mental voice says in the real world, "Shut up and listen").

I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know anything about him as I am newish to K-Pop and although I am a HUGE fan of BTS, I really don't know anything about other K pop groups. Someone posted the video of him listening and singing along to 'Butterfly' by BTS and even though I've never seen him before, it got to me and I could not stop the tears falling. He seemed like such a sweet person. It is such a tragedy when people think this is the only way. I offer my sincere condolences to everyone that is mourning him. I hope we can find out a way to help these tortured souls so that we never have to have this happen again. Please remember that you are not alone and you brighten the day for so many of us.

Thank you SLT for a dignified obituary for Moon Bin. I discovered Moon Bin late last year after discovering BTS April 2022 (I was under a rock for a while). I was mesmerized by Moon Bin's talent, especially his dancing. I am now a huge BTS fan, and Monsta X, but I swear Moon Bin was the best dancer out there. No one came close to Moon Bin's dance talent and finesse. I am 57, and It's really hard to process someone so young and full of life gave up. Anyone struggling, please don't end your life, instead tell someone who cares that you are thinking of ending your life. I will treasure Moon Bin's dance videos. I pray for his peace, and send comforting love to his family, Astro team and devoted fans. Time to rest Moon Bin, you lived a noble life and left beautiful performance art for eternity. May God bless you 💙💔💜

Thank you for showing your vulnerability on camera like that. That was a very brave and beautiful thing and I wanted to take a moment to recognize that. Regarding Moonbin, I do not know his work or his group well. I know the name and the buzz around it but unfortunately that was it. Regardless, I send healing to his family, friends and fans. There is this negative stigma surrounding mental health and until that is corrected, people will never feel comfortable getting the help needed to support themselves. I am going to say this, and I know some will disagree, but the problem is not the companies. It is the general public/fans. They are the reason companies impose these strict dieting rules on their artists. The general public/fans are the reason the celebrities are apologizing for being sick or injured. The general public/fans are the reason that Moonbin and those that left before him felt obligated to keep the image of perfection instead of stepping away to get the help they needed. These celebrities will sacrifice their wellbeing to make sure the fans are happy. We will continue to have these conversations until the fans grow up and accept that the actors, actresses, and idols they love so dearly are human beings whose mental health is just as important as their physical health. My heart goes out to his group as well and I pray they are allowed to grieve properly and have access to grief counseling if needed.

Moonbin was human, his talent and beauty were valued, I only wish, he knew he was more than that to us. His pains, real thoughts, dating, all of that should be valued, more than talent and beauty, but alas, this world and, many only value taking, not giving.

You are right, there is ALWAYS a CRY FOR HELP before the attempt or actual act to end ones life. And to be under so much pressure and in the light of the public constantly, it really is stressful, lonely and depressing. They can’t live their lives normally as themselves like most everyone else and it’s difficult to make friends or trust people because most people will only see you as a famous person and not just as a person. They get lost between what they are and who they are & can play havoc emotionally and mentally. So many pressures and expectations to live up to globally, it’s never ending. This breaks my heart to hear this. Pay attention to those you’re close to, their moods, their habits, any kind of odd or different way of doing or saying things. If they lose interest in both the things they love to do and caring for their own selves. Some times when you are in this kind of state, you lack self hygiene; taking showers/bathing gaps will be stretched for lengthy periods, wearing same dirty clothes for days on end, hoarding can happen, disorganization and chaos in their personal space, anything that is different from their normal way is a flag. Don’t blow it off thinking it’s nothing or none of your business. Let them know you are there and you care.

Thank you Sean for sharing yr experience working with Moonbin. May he RIP. It is so sad bec from the outside in, everything looks glossy and pretty. But why it is too easy to resort to this extreme esp in the k pop world ? I just don't understand when someone has it "all" but yet has none...Idols need to be able to open up and discuss their worries and should not be put down for sharing them. I guess, society needs to be educated to accepting and not judging idols/artist in distress.
Wishing for a better future for all. Stay safe. 💜

There was a follow up report that the cause of death is heart attack. Both him and Sanha were overseas and Bin wasn't feeling well, so he's probably really tired when he came back to Seoul. And there's a possibility that he was really really tired and sick that night and he decided to sleep on it, which may have led for his heart to stop.
That's only according to what I've read.
