I for one love Jason Silva's passionate means of expression. This world needs more people so wonderfully passionate about science, philosophy, and art.
Haha. That guy running down the path who sees these two chatting and is like, nah, i'll take another path.
That bit Jamie Wheal said at the end was just beautiful...
"There is a price to pay for experiencing it [flow states] and the price is that you must act on the goodness, truth and beauty you apprehend while there and then try your damnedest to live up to it when you get back.
Because if you skip that step, it's a stain on your immortal soul the next time you go back to the wishing well."
Your body language is so much more apparent when placed side by side with someone more reserved. It's kind of funny.
I agree, it is funny in a good way.
And it is refreshing to see someone's undisciplined excitement's body language (hope I wrote that right)
Insomn thats like technical programmer vs HR guy
Insomn How high is Jason Silva?
Vinay Kumar This is hilarious!
Insomn 2:05 you can see the moment when Jamie's just thinking "is this guy about to hit me?"
For some reason I pictured this as a job interview, and Jason REALLY wanted the job to the point of seeming over-eager and almost scaring Jamie, who was there to hire him. Jamie had to have at least thought once "Please don't hit me in the face"
I want whatever Jason Silva is high on.
life, you got it
I thought he seemed to be on something... haha he is just smiling like he is on some LSD lol
JustJeffGoPro He's been employing self-amplifying feedback loops and self-directed neuroplasticity... to great effect!
JustJeffGoPro MDMA 100% sure :)
It's Knowledge! It gives you power!!
Jason looks like he's on LSD! But I love his quick and accurate choice of words!
Marijuana. Maybe?
Ankur Agrawal i don't know that much about drugs lol
Leila Moussa Me neither lol
Damn, talking to Jason is an intense experience, he's so excited :D
Dayum. Jason is excited
Jason's work is absolutely inspiring to get up each day and grasp life and retire at night in awe about our existence.
Wow... I just get filled while I see his passion for knowledge. When I was young, I didn't have the thirst for knowledge. Maybe I did to an extent. But now that's all I want to do is learn and develop. Grow, if you will. Watching people with this much passion really just express mgr. Opens my eyes to want more, better myself and everything around me. What a wonderful video. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Is it a bad thing to be excited beyond inconsequential body movement to be alive?Jason is just stoked to be alive and discussing this stuff guys! It's incredibly exciting!! Eccentricity is the only way to fully express how awesome some of us find these ideas to be!
Jogger at 2:23 - - "I'm getting the fuck away from that tweaker!"
Highly creative people, many if not most, have been shown to have the same type of density of dopamine receptors as people with schizophrenia. It's actually a process that involves the Dopamine receptors turning into antagonist, and overloading some parts of the brain with extra information to compensate. I wish I remembered all the technical terms and parts of the brain affected, but in summary, this is one of the reasons the line between brilliance and psychosis is often blurred, or misinterpreted to be psychosis.
I've been on the wrong side of this type of outside observation til I learned reign in my emotions to mirror others, so that they felt more comfortable, and in turn I magically became "more rational" to those around me (My dad is on disability for schizophrenia and I saw the same looks he got, despite being firmly planted on earth in my mind). That's all I can think about when I see this video and the comments. I personally love Jasons enthusiasm but I see how it makes a striking contrast when compared to others and some find it strange. Different strokes, folks.
Those who find it strange suffer from having average minds that cannot comprehend and appreciate the beauty of our unique minds and behavioral pattern. From what you've described it seems you're much more intelligent than most of us thus you should embrace your uniqueness.
EccentricSM Heh, same, though perhaps to a more minor degree. Two close relatives with schizophrenia. I've learned how to slow it down, calm it down, and try a little harder to absorb some 'hard facts' before rushing into passionate speculation... but I can easily head in that direction.
Damn, that last comment was brutal and crucial: Paraphrase: "There's a price for experiencing it, and the price for experiencing it is acting on goodness, truth, and beauty that you apprehend while you're there and then trying to live up your damndist to that example when we're back here. And if you skip that step it's on your mortal soul the next time you go back to the wishing well."
I love how Jason Silva's body cannot contain the excitement of ideas they're discussing. That's how I feel when my neurons are firing up. I can't sit still
"Looking up the skirt of nature....." BAHAHAHAAHAAA!
The man is just legitimately excited to the point where he has to struggle against his body to hold it all in. I really respect the fact that he managed to keep that child-like curiosity and awe to this day.
It's funny(ish) to see how hyped up Silva gets and how his guest is almost embarrassed or even afraid of Jason's exaggerated movements. Jason, you're restless brother, and that's a good thing! Keep up the good work!
Ecstatic moments are beautiful and precious because they are rare. They are made to make us realize the sacred nature of existence and for us to remember and honor it in the most mundane aspects of our life. Trying to hack that state and make it a common thing that you could trigger at will might be a terrible mistake.
i love how jason silva gets when jamie starts talking, he reminds me of an excited child. which is what most of us loses touch with,,,that curiostiy and passion that we all had as kids. And the fact the silva still has that is why he has such a brilliant mind
what a trip Jamie's closing lines are... he definitely hit it right on the head.
I for one dig the enthusiasm. Everyone has to remember that these extended interviews are with people Jason really digs. If you met one of your favorite authors or someone you really look up to wouldn't you have a hard time controlling the stoke as well?
Jason: I want, I want, I want! He wants anything else other than his current mindset, and no matter where he ends up, he will always be aching for something different because he is not able to be content with here and now. This is the opposite of peace of mind, and if you are inspired by this man, you might want to contemplate this thought for a moment.
I always enjoy Jason's videos, its great seeing somebody that passionate.
Hahaha! Jason is bouncing off the trees!! He's always in the flow state. Just happy to be.
I absolutely love everything Jason Silva does and says, but sometimes (especially during this video) I was trying so hard not to let my ears tune out, as it gets kind of wordy sometimes. Not in a bad way -- in fact, I'm trying to up my everyday vocabulary by watching videos like this -- but it's such an extensive vocabulary that I'm trying so hard to never let myself tune out. Is anyone else having that problem?
Geneva Yes, it can be overwhelming at times. It's the legalise for scientists. I understand it all in context and turn to the dictionar if in need of a definition for a word. It's great that you're pursuing development in this area :)
Geneva Hi! I am a University student studying ancient philosophy and noticed that my use of words have changed quite extensively since I began seriously reading and thinking in the subject I am studying.
I thought I might say that it helps to understand Silva's vocabulary if one starts reading philosophy, or just even the books he is reading ~ they're brilliant and worth reading anyhow - (www.itsnicethat.com/articles/bookshelf-jason-silva).
It is easier to then tune into the volume of philosophical vocabulary once one explores the works that Silva reads and further, not just explore through listening but also process them first-hand by reading with your own eyes, contemplate and reflect on them with your own thoughts and discuss about them first hand with a friend, a professor or even another thinker online.
Have a lovely awe-some day.
Pick up a book/ audiobook he quotes and a dictionary then you will understand.
thanks for the talk! jason, you talking its awe... I love the way you gesticulate! you put a lot of energy on it... and its really good to watch!
Jason you're so open, you're flow stating through this whole video? That's amazing energy. I don't know anyone currently in my life with that kind of energy and expression. We're all so reserved to keep up this popular appearance that nothing can effect us.
No words, just feels, bravo for posting this, keep Em coming
I love Jason's excitement and never ending energy!
Beautiful. Thank you Jason.
I love how absolutely baked Jason is here. I watched one his videos once while high and I swear I felt like we were on the exact same wavelength. It was insane.
A true mindgasm! Stuff really picks up towards the end. I'm loving it Jason!
That ending was top notch. Some powerful stuff said right there.
Good lord I just keep watching this video. That last bit just blows my hair back.
Jason, seriously amazing. Had me standing. This conversation is so fascinating, keep up the good work. wow
oh that last bit of gold. DAMN good. rippling all the way here. look forward to more of these exchanges/sparks
I love these new interviews Jason and I love your unedited self : )
I'm as excited as Jason. This is an awesome interview! The realization that the sonic frequencies synchronize in a similar method that pendulums swing is awesome information. Music is so much more deeper than we imagine. its a beautiful dance with the fabric of the universe.
I WILL be on the Playa this year with my Good Friend Donald, who has done the Playa for 17 years. I believe straight. So I will have a master. I am SO looking forward to meeting you, Jason. I am so glad I ran into your content so early on and wait for the next one to see what kernel of info I need at that moment, that I can glean from your efforts. You never disappoint!
So much energy it's awesome
Love this talk!! Expression through creative art forms are some of the few truths to our reality, trying to get humanity to understand its potential and evolve from this reactive state into an embracive one is a noble goal, keep up the good work
Thanks for feeding my mind Jason Silva!
Jason's excitement for a genuinely better understanding of minds and behavior -- and these quick vids of his conversations with some of the brilliant people he finds and talks to in his open search for more of it -- inspire me a lot, sometimes.
They also remind me how little I truly know about myself and the world around me...
Still, I think seeing this much public interest in neuroscience and science in general is a very hopeful sign, and I often find Jason's excitement and wacky gesticulation quite entertaining, now that I'm used to it..
+Vladimir Radisic I agree the last part has good "bang for bit" -- it reflects my own experience with both deliberate and accidental "altered-flow" states.
/R
Mine to :) Thanks
"it is on your mortal soul, the next time you go back to the wishing well"
Nice, I like that.
It reminds me of something a very wise man once said.
Welcome to my well.
"Clarity and regret" - that could be the title of so many autobiographies.
Yes,Yes,Yes,Y'all!!!!...And so we go on....I feel like I am blessed getting to experience it as often as I pay a attention to it :)
Completely relate and understand the flow state. It's been two years since I experienced it for the first time. I thought I was a genius. It was nearly indescribable to my family and friends that couldn't understand what I had experienced.
A bit presumptuous with language but he uses it context. He's the new guru of existentialism. I love his work.
Seeing them laugh in joy when the other makes a slam dunk home run poetic statement >>
Jason is always so excited. :)
2:19 that guys like "Ohhh my" xD
i love how excited jason gets!
I think we evolved to have a range of subjective states, from the depths of despair to the heights of ecstasy. Each state has its own goal. In each state we are paying attention to different things and are motivated to do different things. It seems to me that evolution has made it so we keep coming back to the midpoint of this range - a neutral mood. That is probably our baseline state for a very good reason. If we were still ecstatic over discovering fire, we would have never felt the dissatisfaction that led to the invention of the wheel.
this is an excellent comment.
I love these videos... Can't get enough of them... Jason seems to be HIGH AS FuCk.. and there's nothing wrong w/ that.. Loved the conversation
two amazing minds in one video
Thanks Jamie and Jason. That's more in depth that the ted talk you gave.
Thanks for the input that a base line of theta is the ground for the gamma burst emergence.
Eager to get your next publication after the rise of superman.
Jason Silva is my drug!
Maaaaan that hype of Jason, amazing :D
Last part was beautifull, but I am little worried about Jason's manic presentation. Bliss and awe seems intimately connected with despair on the other pole, and chasing bliss seems to be trying to escape troth of the wave. But anyway, thank you for what you do.
Hi Vladimir,Jason gets a little carried away with things sometimes but it's because he is so passionate about all these new ways of integrating mind and tech and everything that goes along with it. I don't know if it's just when he's on camera but in real life it would be exhausting to be like that all the time. Although maybe thats just how he is,with his mind going at a hundred miles an hour.
Or it could be a form of manic depression. I hope not. Thanks.
I agree with this.
I love the passion that Jason brings and yet I was really glad that Jamie was able to ground the intention of this message. I loved the end regarding welcoming the plateau of integration as well as the concept of creating a community that mines the upper limits of human possibility. Maybe Jason is riding some peak moment waves of some sort and needs some theta time. I just hope this increasing mania that people are noticing doesn't interfere with the really relevant, unique artistic and philosophical message he offers to his viewers. I'm grateful for his voice and hope he realizes that relaxation is also interesting and expansive.
Michele McHall I agree.
Vladimir Radisic I worry about achievement of bliss, etc without the discipline it takes to get there, and the benefits of finding out how to achieve on a regular basis. That's an important part of the process...
Fascinating stuff!!! I want in.
I was impressed in this idea of flow 💖💗💗. I like it. Because I have experienced it. Many. Times
Jason you are AWEsome!
12:13 onwards really raised some goosebumps. More like this Jason!
love the hand gestures :D
His mannerisms might be due to the fact that he's Venezuelan and us Latinos speak with our hands a lot especially when we're really excited about something and its peaked our interest. This happens to me when I am overwhelmed with excitement in a conversation about, for instance a debate on the Fermi paradox and the drake equation and so on, its tantalizing. I'm so happy to see someone so smart and knowledgeable still get so excited that he literally can not contain himself because of an awesome conversation, he's true to himself. Much love from Miami Jason!
That's what I think too; some cultures communicate with their facial expressions and bodies more than with their words.
very intense conversation
Damn talk about haters. Haha. He is just so enthralled with the idea of constant flow of ecstasy that he can't contain himself. It's passion at it's purest. Life! Don't be jealous, go live your life with half his enthusiasm and see how much it changes your perspective.
Loved it
I'm wondering what Carl Sagan would've been like if he had talked as animatedly as Jason Silva... or the other way round, Jason Silva as calmly as Carl Sagan...
Just genius. People fear what they don't know, but the universe never lies. Trust the universe and disconnect yourself from what unfortunately we were born into and think for yourself. It's all there you just have to seek it. ✌🏽️✌🏽
I'm adding this to my CZcams playlist : Humanism Refresher Course
Jason will hit excitement-singularity in a matter of videos
The point Jason Wheal ended with was so powerful!
Lol seeing you unedited is really funny. Wheeling is so shocked to see your fully ecstatic self @jasonsilva
Jason, you could be talking to a monkey on a typewriter about his book titled "how to harness the crap for which we throw"
You're such a good hype man that I would consider buying that book.
Seriously, great topics and masterful presentation of ideas.
Keep up the good work!
whoa whoa whoa, calm down, helicopter!
Mhmmmm.... Strong, strong ending. Reminds me a bit of that Alan Watts, "When you get the message, hang up the phone" talk. And I get why Jason's obsessed with this. No one has those sorts've manic displays without suffering some serious off camera lows. I feel for you, man. That's why I do these "30 days of new things" challenges every so often. I'm seeking peak experiences that make me feel like I'm controlled free-falling through life; excited and inspired, but guided all the while. It's like the answers just come to you. Everything makes sense. It's blissful clarity. To achieve that and be booted from it abruptly feels worse than any breakup; it's as if your spirit's rapidly exsanguinating in a tub full of all the wonderful ideas and aha's and eureka moments, bound back to the cosmic drain from whence they rose. Maybe that's why many people settle for mediocrity or avoid flow cultivating practices, ya know? That fear of what a fall they stand to suffer from atop life's awesomery ladder.
But, I suppose that's why homeboy talks about that "skipped step" thing at the end. That step prevents that polar fall. It's more like a rung you can grab on that flow ladder before you can fall all the way down. It would seem that not getting lost in wonder is key. To draw out the aha, we've gotta bring back the highlights from our ephemeral heavenly holidays, and apply 'em to reality. Find some way to take that abstract bliss and transcribe it to plain language or daily action. I fail at that a lot. I just want the reveling - minus the assignment. Buuuut... this has been an insightful reminder to work on that.
im vietnam person .I live your voice .
amazing
Jason I love you and your body language it is funny that passion is such a foreign concept to many. keep up the good work. I don't think yoy are at risk of this Jason but we should all beware not to spend too long on the proverbial "island of the Lotus eaters" ride the wave but come back to the shore. I trust Jason takes good care of himself. His passion is above average.
Does anyone know which park in SF this is? Would love to go, it's beautiful.
This guy has to be on something. Very entertaining to watch his body language and facial expressions XD
OMG. I Almost DIED of laughter.
What so funny dude
Sebastián Jácome the way he is moving his hands in the air.
haha yeah man, he is an extreme where most people lack completely.
It's just incredible how intense Jason Silva is. Anybody who has seem him order coffee anywhere ever? I'd love to see how that actually goes...
Jaime was like -_- _What the hell is going on here?!? Am I supposed to be as excited as him?_
EMILE COUÉ's book "Self-Mastery Through AUTOSUGGESTION" written over a hundred years ago... is one of the KEYS to this but so many dont even acknowledge... I've found it to be 100% LEGITIMATE in CREATING THINGS only seen in the subconscious FIRST!! #CREATORS
All that creativity and understanding of the world reminds me how dope is to get high on something but the truth is this isn't where you belong to. If you need an external thing to be there this isn't you despite the good feeling that comes with it.
I've replayed the ending quite a few times but I can't seem to fully understand it. Can someone explain what is Jamie Wheal saying at the end? I do not understand the analogy perfectly. Still, a very interesting topic.
Where can I get some of what Jason had?
For research purposes of course.
Oh my why is Jason so excited 🧟♀️?!
Both these dudes are on something
This is really inspiring and thought provoking. All your Shots of Awe are... Thanks!
But... in this case I think there's a big problem with the direction! When you focus on technology's capacity to induce flow by chemically inducing a flow-sensation in the mind, you're not hacking flow - you're just hacking the brain. The fascinating thing about how our super-complex minds is that they are hardwired to recognize and operate in flow, under certain conditions. Think about it - we are designed to flow! Something about us is wired to access flow! Something about our wiring relates to the physics of flow embedded in the fabric of this universe! Cultures all over the world have developed countless flow techniques.
You guys were talking about putting ourselves into flow, regardless of circumstance. That's like saying a good running shoe will make you a better runner. Well, it might make a faster runner. A ground-beating, foliage-squashing, injury-prone, sensationally-buffered, terrain-detached, faster runner. But it has little to do with flow.
Hacking flow means hacking FLOW. Getting down to the bottom of what makes flow... well... flow. It's not about technology - it's about technique. Technology is merely a piece of mechanics executing a certain technique for you. And the technique for accessing true real-life flow can't be a reduction of the connections in our brain - it needs to be a delving into the WHY of everything that makes it work so amazingly great, and then how it can be improved.
"What has interposed between Bliss and non-bliss? It is the ego. Seek its source and find you are Bliss." ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi
Jason Silva is the sensei of flow states ... the cartographer of psychotopography ... he's a righteous dude.
P.S. Having read the other comments: Jason Silva moves more and more. Compared to the first videos of Shots of Awe. In this one, he looks nearly close to a Burn Out. He needs a big rest
Another awesome video Silva, does anyone think the walking was a bit awkard?
Hi, are you talking about alpha and delta waves combined with images ?
I am curious as to what is different for you Jason for these last two interviews vs the Rushkoff one, regarding your manic enthusiasm (is all enthusiasm manic? Maybe lets just think about this cool idea) being present here and not there. I wish I could feel how you feel (maybe I do and don't express it the same way) in conversation, maybe I don't expect to be amazed, where as you are optimistic that there ideas you have yet to hear and are excited to get to them?
Too much Blue Bottle Coffee Jason? Love ur work, keep it up!
