seems a lot of people have this issue, I feel like Dell should be replacing them for free. Although for me the asdfghjkl;'' failed and seems "bending" the laptop a bit from opposite corners made it work again. I'm thinking the connector might be loose or the flex cable might have some issues.

Just replaced my keyboard today using this tutorial and it looked like everything went great, but I later noticed that my HDD is not being recognized/seen by my computer anymore afterward. Any thoughts on what might be going on? My D: drive is totally missing now (which used to be my SSD) and now it looks like my SSD has taken over the C: drive and the HDD isn't connected at all. It isn't being listed as a drive in BIOS and from what I can tell the connection looks fine.

I have the red Dell g5 15 - 5587. It has the problem of the 2-w-s-x keys intermittently not working in the keyboard. That's very frustrating I read a couple of threads on Dell support that implicate the keyboard ribbon cable and the way that it is inserted into the slot, under the battery. I'm considering removing the battery and re-aligning the ribbon cable, before I go ahead and buy another keyboard and perform the replacement. It's a shame that Dell hasn't offered a solution.

A quick note. Due to the design of these laptops, you have to disconnect the CMOS battery (2:10 in the video). This will cause the internal time of the system to be reset; and will cause a BIOS issue when you power the computer back up after putting things back together. I chose to have the system reset the BIOS to the last known good configuration After this, everything was operating normally.

Also, when you power on, hit [Windows key] + B. Release the power button but hold those keys for 4 seconds or so. It gets you into the bios and you can then choose "Bios settings" and reset the clock. Boots fine after that.

@@atharvaashtaputre6355 I replaced my keyboard a couple of months back (this video brilliant by the way for helping me to do it and make sure you're not missing anything as there are SO many screws!!!) and what i noticed was that the ribbon(s) that attach the keyboard to the main board are folded at horrible angles rather than being 'looped over nicely' (see around 6:55), so I can only presume this is where these keys are failing as the connectors I can't imagine like being bent in half quite so severely for so long! For how well everything in this laptop seems to fit and connect together nicely, the keyboard connections are incredibly shoddy to say the least, almost like this keyboard was never designed for these types of laptop in the first place and found a roundabout way to make it fit!

    Errors with this video
    1. It isn't noob friendly, all your doing is showing off what you can do, instead of explaining how to take each part apart. that is why you guys state you are not responsible for anything bad happening,
    2. Eso 13, When you went to unplug the fan of the pc , you used a toolkit that is NOT in the links description, therefore already setting us short with lack of information, for the tools that are in the links aren't helpful to unplugging that particular plug, therefore once again leaving us prone to break something important
