THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND BEING WONDERFUL!!!
MY PREGNANCY: if you’d like to know more, I will be sharing a bit on Instagram as the months pass ( instagram.com/hannahlouiseposton/ ) and I’ve already shared quite a lot about the entire experience on Patreon ( patreon.com/hannahlouiseposton )
CLOTHES MOTHS: The thing about clothes moths is that they don’t go away on their own. You can’t just sort of try a little bit and hope the problem will solve itself. Any eggs left behind anywhere will eventually hatch, eat your clothes, and then fly away to lay more eggs on other clothes. Because the eggs can survive un-hatched for months (and are often dormant in cold weather), it can take years and a few season-cycles to be sure you’ve eradicated them all. It’s the larvae that eat clothes (they eat whatever they hatched on), not the full-sized moths. If you see a moth flying around, by all means smash it, but tbh it’s too late-it already ate a hole in something somewhere when it was a worm. They eat any natural fibers (wool, silk, cotton, etc) but wool is their favorite and they’ll usually ignore other fibers if there’s wool nearby.
So you have to eradicate the eggs, which is tough because they are almost too small to see, and it’s hard to know where they are until they hatch and become worms. Also, they can survive washing. Dry-cleaning will kill them, but washing at home won’t. The best at-home tool I’ve found is the freezer. If a moth egg gets frozen and then unfrozen, frozen and then unfrozen, the expansion and contraction of the water in the egg will kill it. So before I left LA, all of my non-synthetic clothes went into Ziploc bags and into the freezer for at least 72 hours, then back out to thaw, then back into the freezer for another round before I packed them. When we got to the East Coast, they all went into the freezer for another round. After that, I washed everything that could be machine washed.
A few eggs still survived, and I found larvae (and holes) in 2 sweaters months later-also, a few adult moths hitched a ride, continuing the cycle in our new house. So I’ve kept up the vigilance and freezer cycles and kept an eagle-eye out. For catching mature moths, I always have glue traps scattered around the house (you can find them easily by googling “clothes moths glue traps,” all kinds work). I can tell how big the problem is at any given time by seeing whether or not the glue traps have caught any fresh adult moths.
All of the glue traps have been empty for the past few seasons, so I’m hopeful, but I won’t rest easy until I’ve gone 1 calendar year with all clothes in play and all glue traps empty. Wish me luck OMG
Lastly: in addition to clothes, they eat wool carpets. If you have wool carpets and you have clothes moths, they are probably breeding there. Unfortunately the ONLY solution for this is to have the carpet professionally cleaned with moth eradication as an add-on service. You can also then have the carpet treated with a moth repellant (the cleaner I use offers a repellant that is totally kid and pet safe). This sucks because it’s expensive, but you truly cannot omit this step if you have a moth problem. They will simply multiply and ruin your sweaters forever.
#mothtrauma
Oof moths, I've never experienced them, they sound awful. I always heard tales of moth balls as a kid, have been in musky attics, but that's about where my experience ends. I'd encourage any moth to try to come into my apartment and attempt laying eggs on my precious wool knits. The warm weather welcomes home the spider population that exists in the indoor shared stairwell. 🕸 🕸
I didn't think you could get any more informative, but this is gold. Thank you (and congratulations)!
do moth balls help? Should I store clothing in a bag with a moth ball, then into a box?
Not unless you want to smell like a moth ball yourself. :)
@@penelopepegg7834 they can deter grown moths but they won't stop them entirely, and they won't eradicate them, so they'll just fly away and find something else to eat somewhere else in the house. To me, it's not worth it to deal with the horrible chemical smell!
The way Hannah said "pregnant" so casually!! I did a double take 😂 congratulations, Hannah and Mr. Hannah lmao!! ❤
I was so bummed that I missed the surprise because I saw the comment first! Congratulations, Hannah!
She actually announced it on patreon first ,then Instagram & now in this video 😉
RIGHT?!? Congratulations!!! ❤️❤️
OMG!!!
Congratulations!
You have to be the most considerate CZcamsr I have ever encountered. The gentle tact with which you made your wonderful pregnancy announcement was not lost on me and I’m sure on the rest of your audience. You have the most gracious way of being inclusive. Basically, you have impeccable manners, Hannah. This was fun to watch and, as always, has given me some food for thought about how to approach being thoughtful about my summer wardrobe. I am a big fan of Emma. Her wardrobe is definitely aspirational for me. The amount of thought that goes into her purchases inspires me. And I get a bit of a contact high from her seasonal wardrobe change overs 😂. Congratulations to you and Joe ❤. And thank you, once again, for such good content. You are a gem 😊
thank you so much
"the most gracious way of being inclusive"
Yes! This! Well stated 👏🏻
Wholeheartedly agree! And we couldn’t be more excited for you and Joe ❤
Just wow. Such an elegant pregnancy statement (beautifully not an announcement) and immediate answer to anyone's question: will her content still be relevant to me? Master class, Dear Hannah ❤
thank you so much, Shelley!!
Thank you so much, Hannah, for discussing how body change impacts an intentionally long-term wardrobe. My weight has changed a lot over the years and it's been very frustrating deciding how to balance clothes with longevity vs wondering if I'll even be able to wear them next year. Would definitely be interested in more content around that topic in a year or longer. Congrats on your happy news!
As someone who has had multiple pregnancies, my body has changed I think permanently in the last three years, and of course style changes, I really love that you talked about how sometimes your wardrobe simply no longer works for you, and that’s ok. Different needs for different seasons of life. ♥️
OMG the pregnancy announcement just squeezed in here, LOL...CONGRATULATIONS! Awesome news!!! Excited for you and Joe. :D Pregnancy is a great time for a capsule wardrobe because you really have to have three phases of it. Each trimester it gets more and more capsule. :D
Lol. Yeah, that almost gave me whiplash when she said that. 😊
The 3 trimesters and postpartum! @Hannah, I hope you will take us through some of that - I really struggled with the clothing changes, especially with a new little baby. Thank goodness you already have a strong loungewear collection :)
Tears filled my eyes as soon as you confirmed at 3:40. I could not be happier for you. My bub just turned 1 last week and it has been the toughest year of my life but also full of life-changing maturity. You already have that. I’m so happy for you and Joe.
As one who was also recently pregnant, your "When U Feel Like Garbage" videos make a whole lot of sense now 😅 it's a trip, isn't it? Congratulations! May Baby Poston love dancing, music, and sparkles as much as their parents ❤
Congratulations on your new addition! I don't know whether you have struggled with infertility or known someone who has, but I have been struggling with it for over three years and I really appreciate the sensitive way you incorporated your pregnancy into this video. It felt very thoughtful, so thank you. I love your fashion content and I was able to enjoy this video as much as I enjoy your others. What you said at the end of the video reminds me of your use of single eyeshadows as flexible, moveable supplies to create mini-collections that you love in a particular season.
it hasn't been a straightforward journey for me, I know how complicated these feeling can be and I'm sending you big hugs!!!
I so appreciate how neutral to positive you are when speaking about your body changing. You acknowledge that some of these pieces may never fit again with such a sense that if they don't that is ok.
Man, the algorithm really came through. I came across one of your fashion/wardrobe videos two days ago, and have been binging them ever since. I love how methodical and relaxing your videos are, and I'm already implementing some of the approaches that you have suggested. Extremely helpful content, thank you!
The way my jaw dropped when I saw the bump!! And then the casual "pregnant" confirmation!! Love it. Congrats to you, Hannah and Joe! So, so happy for you.
Also, this style series you've been doing is SO inspiring. The last video about "Levels of Formality"? Game. Changing. Loved watching you follow it up with a real-life wardrobe switch. Thanks for continuing to share!
this is gonna be the most eloquent child ever. thanks for not stressing about it just rushing to do it before 30 or some stupid shit like that
I love your healthy attitude towards your changing body - maybe you'll be able to wear the high waisted pants again in a year or two, and maybe you won't. Either way, it's OK. We need to hear that body neutrality messaging more IMO. And many congrats to you and Joe 💙
well first thing: CONGRATULATIONS! Your attitude towards your changing body is wonderful to see! Curating your wardrobe as your body changes over the years is a great habit to form. I just did my spring flip and was grateful to my past self for curating carefully. Through pregnancy, injury, weight fluctuations of over 60 pounds up and down, some core pieces have survived every cull, mostly vintage because in my mind they are irreplaceable. I have a black velvet blazer from the 50s that is just barely oversized enough to fit me at most weights, and a fabulous polyester print shirt with enormous pointed collar and supremely 70s fairytale-like print with roses and crows that I wear about twice a year, every year, since i acquired it (in 1993!) In decades to come, you will still have those few forever clothes that feel authentic to who you are, have been, and will be in the future. Thanks for sharing ❣
Hitting 100k and having a baby - 2023 is a big one for you Hannah! You beyond deserve all the good things coming your way this year ♥️✨ So fun to see your bump in this vid!
Congratulations Hannah, so excited for the changes to come.
thank you!!
Of course Hannah would casually announce that while staying informative and on point about her topic. You are a beautiful human being and always look forward to future content!
I had my son in 2000 during the last hurrah of the old tent like maternity clothes. I am sooooo jealous of how much better the clothes are. Nonetheless, one thing remains true: nothing beats cotton and linen maxidresses in the summer!
Yes, I agree! I had my daughter in 2006 and the clothes are so much better now! Trying to find a decent pair of jeans then was difficult😂
My system: clear flip top boxes that stack w add a sheet of paper shoved on the end with my weight, year and season…I swing 135 lbs to 155 lbs (even a bit more at times) so every 10 lbs needs a wardrobe - all seasons. Pants are hardest for me so if they fit I get them - I purge very carefully. I want to feel cute no matter what my weight . I love your insights - they are a great addition to my system!
Re-organizing my closet has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a child. Even though I’ve never had a glamorous walk in closet, It feels luxurious in the way that I imagine some people feel when they spend a morning at their favorite salon.
Thank you for sharing yours
And congratulations on your extenuating circumstances! Lovely!❤
I had to pause the video and make sure my eyes were not deceiving me. Baby bump spotted. Congratulations to you and Joe. Moths are a real pain that's for sure. Imagine all the people on their hands and knees checking their vintage rugs right about now. I always wondered how big a freezer people have to have to store all their wool sweaters. LOL
I LOVE this approach to a wardrobe. For the longest time, I thought I needed to have everything "out" all the time, and that storing some of my clothes meant I had too many clothes and I needed to get rid of some of them. Plus, I live in a place with a pretty moderate climate so I can wear most of my clothes all year round. However, I have remained overwhelmed by my wardrobe even through many declutters, and for now I truly love everything I have left. Recently I have done some traveling, and I realised how much I loved picking a "capsule" wardrobe for the trip. It was pretty easy for me to pick out a subset of my favourite clothes that would all go together, and it was so much easier to get dressed from that limited wardrobe. I thought this type of thing wouldn't work for me at home, though, because I'd get tired of the wardrobe at the end of a longer trip, plus I still thought I needed to have all my clothes out all the time. But recently, thanks to your content, I have decided to try a type of "capsule" wardrobe, where I pretend my (relatively small) closet is my (relatively large) suitcase, and I'm going on an extended trip somewhere. So I can only have out the clothes that firstly fit comfortably into my closet, secondly are suitable for the weather and activities I'm going to encounter in the next few months, and thirdly that I can see myself wearing in different combinations over the next few months. I am storing the rest, without any pressure to get rid of a bunch of stuff I actually still love. It's only been a few weeks but opening my closet and getting dressed is so much less stressful!
I have lost about 45 pounds AND live on a boat. This video couldn’t be more timely. I haven’t been this size in about 20 years. So obviously, my style has changed from college as well as the fabrics and colors I favor. For me, the clothes that were small were pared down but I kept my favorite pieces for one of 4 reasons, investments, quality, cuts that aren’t currently favored, curiosity. At each seasonal change, I try on all of my clothing from the exiting season and that from the new. I get rid of anything too oversized that isn’t worth of the effort of downsizing. Things that fit get assessed for style and cohesion. Things that are still too small get assessed for value and quantity. Getting rid of larger for the smaller is fairly easy. Honestly, the hardest thing is letting go of clothes that fit but don’t serve me in style or lifestyle, that I know I will never want to wear but have held on to. I have to remind myself that it fits now and it serves its purpose by being a comparison, not living in my closet, just like a gift from someone who doesn’t get your style.
Love your last point.
Congrats for the pregnancy! I have to say when I was pregnant (twice) I had pieces of clothing that fit me all throught pregnancy and post ''back to my normal self'' body and even if they were still in good shape I didn't want to wear it again after it was clear I was ''done'' having babies so be careful when buying clothing thinking you will keep wearing it after your pregnancy you might be tired of wearing them or can't dissociate the piece with your pregnancy body.
Very useful advice - I second this! Same here, different body and or different stages of life and needs!
Hannah, I've been following you since your no buy year, when i was 18. I feel like in some sense a huge part of my young woman taste and aesthetic has been hugely shaped by your work. So i want to use this occasion to thank you for your balanced influence and congratulate you and Joe on the exciting news ❤
As someone who is really grieving not having a baby on this mother's day I really appreciate the grace and considerate way you announced your pregnancy. Mind you, however way you want to announce it is wonderful 🎉, and idk if it was intentional or not, but I really appreciated it. Congrats Hannah!!!!!
Congratulations! Boy you flew by 100k!
I've been doing this for awhile, I am very fortunate to have a cedar lined walk-in storage closet, so I have kept clothes for decades, I have knit wear my mother wore, and I wear every winter. She died in 1985 so... and she had it for years. A wool sweater my sister gave me for Christmas in the 80s. I may not wear it Every year, but I wore it this year with great pleasure.
I've never understood those people who get rid of stuff that they didn't wear for 3 months!
I know I am lucky to have the space.
Yay! I love the clothing videos so much better than the makeup ones
Congrats on brewing a new little hoomyn! I am a new mom to a 2 year old. The end of my maternity leave was my trigger to look at my style and wardrobe and ALL your fashion videos were so helpful for me. Turns out that all my clothes need to meet the requirement of being comfortable enough to play on the floor now...! 🥰
Great video! If you plan on nursing you’ll find you need a whole new wardrobe turn-over to accommodate easy access. Button shirts, deep v-necks and shirts that can be pulled up are wonderful. High-neck dresses etc don’t work and will need to be tucked away. Pregnancy, nursing and just parenting really changes the kids of clothes you need I find. My style has changed a lot since having my kids. Excited for you and the upcoming changes in your life. ❤❤❤
Congratulations! Being a parent is the greatest thing I've ever done. Here's a helpful hint: I had bulimic babies. They would nurse until they soit up, then latch on and nurse some more. I was covered in spit up all the time. I ended up getting a lit of white tshirts and wore them with scarves. I'd cover the baby a little while nursing and the spit up on my shirts was not too noticeable. I was pregnant or nursing for over 5 years with my two boys, my body got back to "normal" only after my youngest weaned at 2 years 11 months. I love your realistic expectations on what your body will be like in the future.
I absolutely loved the footage of the patchwork blouse with bump. Take extra good care of yourself and Bebé, you’re going to be an amazing mother. Congrats Hannah, I am really pumped for you and Joe!
Congrats on the pregnancy!! Such an exciting time for you, thanks for sharing. I'm currently going through menopause, and gained a little weight, so I'm revamping my closet for summer AND the extra 15 pounds :P hahahahaaa
My goodness, congratulations to you and Joe!
My wardrobe isn't large enough to warrant a season change per se, but I do reorganize my pieces and assess what I've worn and what is worn out from the ending season. I very much enjoyed watching you sort through your pieces, your style gives me life!
@HannahLouisePoston you FINALLY hit 100k subscribers!! So so well deserved, have enjoyed your content and its evolution so much over the years. Feels like we're growing together 🥰 Also congratulations on your pregnancy! Such wonderful news 💛
I support the act of keeping pre-pregnancy clothing because there are, for better or for worse, so many unknowns about how we come out the other side of childbearing, sartorially and otherwise. My second child is 7 months and I am shocked to be able wear and enjoy clothing that I've had since long before my first. Some people might eschew a "just in case" approach to keeping clothes, but I am grateful for the indulgence of my past self. All the best to you on your journey!
Pregnancy is amazing! I was curious, excited, anxious, wondering, soulful…and I learned that my child communicated with me. It’s subtle… changes in food preferences, wildly active late at night, which he still is. Congratulations! And I’m avid to learn what you think about pregnancy and beauty together. I was confused about it, personally, but that was nearly 40 years ago now. Products and options are so different now. Any way, blessings!
Your video about making your wardrobe suit your lifestyle has been incredibly helpful to me as I rebuild my wardrobe post-pregnancy! My clothing needs and my body have changed drastically, and it really helped me figure out where all my gaps are.
I second the person in the comments who suggested buying a few pairs of transitional pants for your pregnancy and postpartum - and invest in really good, comfortable ones that you feel amazing in, because it really makes a difference when you have so much going on. I also highly recommend good quality nursing bras and making sure your whole wardrobe is easy for nursing, if that's what you plan to do. Basically, spend the money to make your pregnancy and postpartum life as smooth as possible - you won't regret it, and you will always be able to resell the pieces later.
Awe congratulations mama 🎉 once you said wardrobes change for viable reasons I gasped “awe she’s pregnant” 😂❤
Don’t throw away pieces you love, from experience you’ll lose the extra weight so give yourself time and enjoy the journey
Oh, I hear you on the moth problem! I have carpet beetles and do the same thing where I put every wool item in a separate zip lock bag. It's an ongoing battle😅
They may live in the floor cracks and eat cat hair, but they'll never have my knits!
Congratulations on the pregnancy!
I’m glad you included a lot of those printed pieces because they were beautiful on you. And congrats on the baby! Best of luck to you
AHHHHH!!! Congrats on your pregnancy!!!! As someone who gave birth to her baby girl last Christmas, and is currently carting through her wardrobe and eliminating clothes that no longer fit (maternity), you are thinking so brilliantly and far ahead. Keep everything, sort it all out later and eliminate what doesn’t work, and also if you’re crafty, things that are sentimental about can always be reworked into new garments :D
Congrats again!! Motherhood is the most wonderful, amazing, sleep deprived, beautiful, fluid covered time ❤❤❤❤❤
congrats!!! love the casual announcement (unless i missed something lol)
thank you!!!
Wow. I am so beyond excited that you are pregnant. My baby was my truest blessing. I have never been more happy in my life then being a mama. I’m so excited to see your motherhood journey♥️
I’ve never been able to afford things such as patreon but I’m at the point where I may have to get yours because of this pregnancy! Sending love Hannah
I appreciate how you pointed out that even though you liked that dress, if it hung in your wardrobe you knew you would never wear it. I'm adopting a no tolerance attitude towards these little clingers; and it's amazing how many reasons we can come up with for keeping clothes we know we won't ever wear; my last reason was because I'd only paid two dollars for it! But in the end, getting rid of it was priceless!!! 😆
Congratulations, Hannah and Joe!!! 🎉 As a mom myself, I definitely had an enormous shift in my wardrobe after having kids. After more than 5 years combined of breastfeeding (and still going), I found that to be an unexpectedly huge part of my decision making when buying clothes. If you plan/hope to nurse your kiddo, my favorite tip is to layer a tank top under whatever shirt you’re wearing so you can lift the top shirt up without exposing your entire stomach every time, and you can remain more covered up top if you want. Before discovering that tip I was constantly stretching out necklines of shirts or being tempted to buy actual nursing tops (which are definitely not long term investment pieces 😏). Hope that helps! Thanks for sharing your closet with us, I’m feeling very inspired to clean mine out!
Congratulations! I went through so many wardrobe overhauls during pregnancy, post partum, baby years and toddler years. I have a 4yo and I'm only now slowly bringing back cashmere and silk because before this, it would have all been covered in poo, vomit or grubby banana hands. You need to go go through so many wardrobe versions in the next few years to match it to your lifestyle, so a capsule is a great idea. And your body will keep changing almost weekly, particularly if you plan to bf.
Also, freezing knitwear for a few days can kill moth eggs! I often shove my nice knits in the freezer for a few nights, particularly if I'm packing them away
Congratulations on your pregnancy and 100k subscribers! ❤️
So appreciate this video as someone who has been exploring their gender and expression, as well as whose weight fluctuates due to chronic illness. Thank you ❤️
What a great CZcams pregnancy reveal! It was so beautifully and thoughtfully done and it feels perfect to coincide with 100k. I'm looking forward to how you weave this new aspect of your life into your work. This video felt incredibly authentic and so warm and inclusive. I hope things continue onward and upward for you, congratulations.
Ah look at this fashion MAMA giving us a first snippet 🫶🏼 she is gorgeous!
Oh my goodness, your fashion video's are doing SO well! Maybe you can do a video about a pregnancy wardrobe? How to use what you have in a different way? And if you buy things, how to find stuff that you can still wear after?
Your baby belly is so cute!!!
I love all of this. My child is nearing a year and a half. My body has been on a rollercoaster over the past two years from pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, and now considering doing it all again. Its a wild ride for these bodies of ours
wow, that was such a slick reveal! I'm excited for you :) I just turned 33 and keep feeling like that boat has sailed because I can't picture myself with kids yet and my husband and I don't feel like we are where we would need to be in order to make that decision with respect to our finances and living situation...I'd really like to buy a house (however small) first but by the time we can make that a reality it might very well be too late.
I'm 38! you have time
I absolutely love minimalist Hannah (as it relates more to my style), but I do miss the maximalist style icon Hannah because of its uniqueness
Edit: as part of your Instagram family, I already knew about the pregnancy but still, I would say it again: CONGRATULATIONS ❤❤
Congrats on the pregnancy! I've been trying for my second for a while now with no luck so far. Say a prayer for me.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Your baby bump is so cute!
I also just did my closet changeover but living in south Florida it isn’t as big of a transition 😂
I also have waaay more winter-y clothes than summer clothes, so this time of year always brings a bit of a panic. This was helpful! And congrats!
Congratulations, dear Hannah and Joe!! You will be the most compassionate and creative parents. Blessings!
Oh Hannah! Such lovely news! 💖
My daughter is now 4 years old and I feel sad about all the clothes I got rid of during and directly after the pregnancy thinking they'll never fit again ... I would be easily able to wear them again now but I don't have them anymore 😔
Yup. Nice abundance.
Baby bump!!! Congratulations!!! 🎉🎈🎊
Oh congratulations!!!! ❤❤❤
Omg my head SNAPPED back to screen at "pregnant & jaw droped!!! Congrats🎉🎉🎉
