Can you use non-Cricut brand ceramic tiles as coasters for the infusible ink? And is it possible to use a household iron?

Can you use the infusable ink on dark coloured shirts???
babsrnurse yes but material of the shirt matters most.
I am very late to the party but does the infusible ink work on regular cottom t-shirts? Or does it have to be cricut brand shirt?
I think it better on more polyester types material my first project failed
