How to Make a Trench Knife from Metro Exodus EVA Foam Tutorial

- Hey guy I'm back again with another HD-Foam cosplay build. This time I'm building a con safe version of Artyom's trench knife from the game Metro Exodus. This is a eva foam fabrication so it's both lightweight and convention safe. I want to show you the steps to assemble this foam knife as well as paint it using graphite powder. This effect give it a very reflective and realistic look.

Do you need to fix the graphite powder so it doesn't rub off?
Simple, but so beautiful. Good work SKS, and that wooden handle looks great! Can't wait to try that effect.
PlanetAlexanderProjects Thank You very much!
Incredible build. I always learn so much about painting from your videos. And this seems like a small attainable project. I may try this when I set up my work shop at the current house. Keep up the awesome (and now frequent) content Steve. ✌️
Akash Balakrishna Thank You!!!
Great build Steve! =D
Punished Props Academy Thank You!
Thank you for this vid! I LOVE seeing your paint techniques 👍💕
Jessica Vega Thank You!
Really glad I watched this. Not only was the end product awesome, but it gave me insight into something I've been thinking of doing for a while. See, I've been wanting to recreate con safe versions of my Assassin's Creed weapons (which have since been stolen) out of foam, but have been unsure of how to support them internally without making the blades too thick. Didn't even consider styrene. Thanks!
Chris Arrowood Awesome! And Thank You!
Killer knife prop!! That so awesome!! Nice work.
Dozer88SR Thank You!
Again awesome work. You are doing some amazing stuff
This is Patrick Thanks!
Great build! And finally an answer to whether you can use graphite powder on foam!
nerdyviews Thanks!
Great job again my friend!
BBPropShow a Thank You!

Thanks!
WoW love the video ! I think I will try this myself !
Thank You!
Damn! That came out amazing!
Thank You!
I didn't know nylon nuts and bolts was a thing I will certainly be picking some up in future.
Yeah they are very handy for con approved weapons
@@SKSProps I 3d print lots of con safe props but I have an fdm so it would struggle with things that small.
Woohoo! Looks great buddy! Thanks for the shoutout!
NP and Thanks!
A beautiful dagger if iI may say
Gruntkilla Thank You!
Nice
Ok... I'm glad i subscribed to you just this morning! :D
PS.: I most likely i'll go to metro airsoft "camp" here in my country. This video might come in handy! :D
xj770HUN Thanks!
Its impresionant
Thank you!
Oh oh, finally something I can make and perhaps make look good. Awesome video as per usual Steve, also did you use a sealant over the whole prop to protect the graphite power from rubbing off?
Candi Bacon thanks! nope once it’s rubbed in to the Plasti dip it seemed to stay pretty well
SKS Props awesome, my face dropped when you started to rub it on. I gotta get me some of that! I’ve a few ideas it could work on including what I’m working on right now
Try using a wire brush for the wood texture on foam. Works a charm!
Might try that out sometime
i love your job, is posible you make a gears of war lancer weapon?
what did you use for the black paint or somthing after the fake rivets? Ok thank you I’m trying to make a metro exodus cosplay so I’m trying to make everything lol and I wanna do it all right
YesThePotatoeIs LookingAtYou I sealed the entire weapon with Plasti dip
The graphite is such a great look. Do you need to fix it with anything to make sure it doesn't just rub off when you handle the prop?
unicyclops Gallant no it seems to stay put 👍
@@SKSProps Thanks for the reply. I recently discovered your channel so now I'm binging on it. Amazing work!
AWESOME build and we're do you get your templates for the builds
SPARTAN FRED Thanks! I create them myself in photoshop
@@SKSProps you did a great job on the templates there perfect
Can you varnish the graphite? Or does it not come off after application? Looks awesome!
tiny kraken Thanks doesn’t seem to rub off
Awesome, thankyou, going to have to try it out
Do you use a layer of protective enamel over your props? I see that other foam smiths do and I was curious if you do as well.
flaminshotgun no I don’t ever seal my paint I let the different sheens speak for themselves. If you coat with a matte or semigloss then everything takes that property
@@SKSProps Interesting, I agree it keeps your tones intact. I would think the paint would be too exposed and fragile.
flaminshotgun also why I pretty much only use heavy body acrylics. More pigment and a more durable thicker base.
@@SKSProps Cool, makes sense. Thanks for the rapid responce.
Awesome knife template. Any plans on doing anymore Metro builds?
Thank you! I don't have anything scheduled but it was a fun game
Definitely, gonna attempt to do build this knife before I go to the bigger builds. Great tutorial
Can you make a commander Cody helmet from star war
I have a ton of different builds planned so we will see what the future holds
1:30 sanmai prop knife!
The graphite powder won't come down easily? I mean how to keep it on the blade?
xj770HUN once it’s rubbed in it doesn’t seem to rub off
hmm thanks the idea :D@@SKSProps
On what size of paper is need to be printed?
Paper size doesn’t matter…open the pdf in adobe acrobat or adobe reader and click poster in the printer settings that scales the pdf regardless of what paper you use
Could you build thanos infinity gauntlet ?
