  • Everyone wants to talk about the most common anxiety symptoms. I get it. Your symptoms feel important. They're scary and you see them as dangerous. In many many cases with it comes to anxiety disorders, the symptoms of anxiety become the source of the anxiety. Fear of fear is often based on fear of the most common anxiety symptoms - fear of your own body. Let's talk about that this week.

    The way you ended this episode, Drew, was so incredible that I wrote down several quotes so that I won't forget them. "When I do nothing, my body fixes itself", is such a simple concept but it made me realize the deep distrust I have with my body. I've believed there was something wrong with me for so long. Wow, I could say so much about this episode, thank you!

    I heard a lot of my symptoms in there…..I have been about 75-80% recovered and suddenly the symptoms are strong again. It’s exactly like you said, these symptoms being back feels like the most important thing in the world. I have seen my doctor but am back to denial that I am ok. My brain says… “BUT…we haven’t rechecked EVERYTHING…” ugh….thanks Drew.

      I remember how hopeless you felt when you first popped in here a while ago so I really love that you can point to that level of progress. No small achievement! The reversion to old habits happens to almost everyone at some point so be nice to yourself and do your best to go back to the new responses that were moving you forward. xx

    Does anyone also have chronic migraines?
    I have been through all the symptoms. Dpdr, palpitations, brainfog, fatigue, hypochondria, insomnia, fear of schizophrenia, fear of going out, obsessive thoughts etc.
    Today I only have one problem. I have had chronic headaches/migraines for 6 months.
    With all the other symptoms I was able to start living again and accept them, but with migraines you can't do anything. I take tablets every day and don't know what to do!

      That is a challenging situation for sure! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Expect big emotions, uncertainty, anxiety, fear, and discomfort. You're human and allowed to be human. We're always addressing the thing where we treat the reactions as the threat rather than the circumstance (the home sale for instance). I hope that works out for you soon!

    🤔 tinnitus and vertigo? Tinnitus I have in recent times attributed to anxiety and noticed it more when I think of it more and when more anxious especially if I haven’t slept well for days. It started after a bad ear infection about 5yrs ago. But vertigo? I have been checked out, numerous tests and was told due to BPPV. Eply maneuver usually makes me feel better. I would have some level of comfort if I can also attribute to anxiety.

    Anxiety is so sneaky. I re-listen to some of these as a refresher for the mindset I need to be in and it does help alot so when you said don't come back and relisten to these anxiety twists that into "see what you're doing that was working is actually wrong you won't get better". It's so tricky, I don't care about physical symptoms that much, it's the thoughts that derail me.

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  Před rokem +3

      Tricky, right? I'm a big fan of using resources to inform action. If a podcast or a book or videos are helping you do things that help you in recovery and steer clear of old habits, that's great! I'm like the worst CZcamsr ever though, because I will sometimes tell people to stop watching my videos when they are using them as "comfort". That can be a trap. But sometimes its hard to even tell if we're doing that, right? Anxiety is ridiculous sometimes. 😐

      For anyone new to this, gaining an understanding of symptoms and learning that anxiety can cause all kinds of reactions in your body is a big part of that important early psychoeducation. I often refuse to talk about symptoms because we don't want to get stuck there, but a basic understanding is important.

    After listening to these, I just realize something. Everybody thinks they need to figure out their anxiety. Well notice how none of these symptoms make them want to think more. It literally is only reactions you would need in order to run away or fight. It’s not called the fight Flight or think really hard response for a reason. Your brain actually literally does not want you to think too much at all. Hence you can’t think clearly, just run or something, because let’s not think about if the bear is nice or when it last ate, just get the heck outta there!

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  Před rokem +4

      LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!!!! You are 100% correct about this. The part of your brain that handles all this is strong and fast, but not very smart at all. It has one job and it doesn't care about what you THINK. Only what you DO and that it can see (not hear) that it can take a little break because you're actually safe. Great comment. Thank you so much. :-)

    • @TheAnxiousTruth

      I hear you on this. Remember that an anxious mind is quite busy in survival mode, so things like logic, reason, memory, and problem solving are going to go on the "back burner" and degrade to some extent. That's really normal and happens to pretty much everyone to some degree. It's difficult and frustrating for sure. But know that it doesn't mean you're broken or hopeless. Hang in there.

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You may find it helpful to see how people relate to conditions like tinnitus or chronic pain. Mindfulness based acceptance oriented approaches tend to produce positive results in many cases. In that situation you are starting from the premise that having a song on one's head is certainly impactful and somewhat frightening at times, but doesn't have to be treated as a disaster that must be fixed. That's a hard right turn to make for many though, so if it takes a while to get your head around that idea, that's OK.

      You will notice that I will always acknowledge that you are afraid, but I will rarely if ever talk about specific symptoms or sensations. Anxious people get VERY focused on everything happening in their bodies so if we were to chase every sensation we'd do nothing but try to "solve" symptom after symptom. I do know how scary that is for you though. See if you can apply the lessons you learned from other symptoms to this one. That can be helpful, even when this is hard to do. xx

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  Před měsícem +2

      One of the most difficult concepts for people to come to terms with here on my channel is that we're not trying to learn how to make symptoms stop. We're learning to relate to them in new ways to learn through experience that while they are certainly disruptive, uncomfortable, and scary, this doesn't mean we need to engineer our entire lives around them all the time. I always say "shoot at the right target". First we learn how to handle our symptoms in more productive ways that teach us important lessons, then a happy secondary outcome is that they tend to lesson or go away over time.

      @@TheAnxiousTruth I actually have thyroid issues, so I wanted to know if it was that, that had caused what I was going through. But it turned out that it wasn’t. So I accepted the anxiety for what it was. I saw a doc maybe 4 times and that was it. 1 time for anxiety meds (which I ended up throwing out), 2nd time for sleep meds because I couldn’t sleep due to the anxiety (threw those out as well), 3rd time bloodwork and 4th for other reasons that I thought may help my anxiety but didn’t. Meds just did not work for me. My body rejected supplements so I stopped taking them. So I’m just letting anxiety heal on it’s own. And I am healing. That’s all that matters to me now.
