      The great schism?
The Bishop of Rome (the Pope) had a schism with the Orthodox Church sometime around 1000 AD. The orthodox didn’t believe one bishop should be supreme above others.
Before that, there was only one church, Jesus’ church.

    • @SeanWinters
      @SeanWinters Před rokem +8

@@Powerranger-le4up Incorrect. For instance, there's no evidence that Peter was ever over Rome, and Peter accepts Paul's rebuke. Paul was over gentiles, while as far as we know, Peter worked mainly on Jews.
The first mention of Peter being in Rome was something like 3-500 years after his death.
Plus, Catholicism, especially the polity, came about thanks to Romans trying to legislate the church, not because of Jesus.

      Ignatius of Antioch
“Not as Peter and Paul did, do I command you [Romans]. They were apostles, and I am a convict” (Letter to the Romans 4:3 [A.D. 110]).
      Dionysius of Corinth
“You [Pope Soter] have also, by your very admonition, brought together the planting that was made by Peter and Paul at Rome and at Corinth; for both of them alike planted in our Corinth and taught us; and both alike, teaching similarly in Italy, suffered martyrdom at the same time” (Letter to Pope Soter [A.D. 170], in Eusebius, History of the Church 2:25:8).
      Irenaeus
“Matthew also issued among the Hebrews a written Gospel in their own language, while Peter and Paul were evangelizing in Rome and laying the foundation of the Church” (Against Heresies, 3, 1:1 [A.D. 189]).
“But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the succession of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the succession of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. With that church [of Rome], because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition” (ibid., 3, 3, 2).
“The blessed apostles [Peter and Paul], having founded and built up the church [of Rome], they handed over the office of the episcopate to Linus. Paul makes mention of this Linus in the letter to Timothy [2 Tim. 4:21]. To him succeeded Anacletus, and after him, in the third place from the apostles, Clement was chosen for the episcopate. He had seen the blessed apostles and was acquainted with them. It might be said that he still heard the echoes of the preaching of the apostles and had their traditions before his eyes. And not only he, for there were many still remaining who had been instructed by the apostles. In the time of Clement, no small dissension having arisen among the brethren in Corinth, the church in Rome sent a very strong letter to the Corinthians, exhorting them to peace and renewing their faith. . . . To this Clement, Evaristus succeeded . . . and now, in the twelfth place after the apostles, the lot of the episcopate [of Rome] has fallen to Eleutherius. In this order, and by the teaching of the apostles handed down in the Church, the preaching of the truth has come down to us” (ibid., 3, 3, 3).
      Gaius
“It is recorded that Paul was beheaded in Rome itself, and Peter, likewise, was crucified, during the reign [of the Emperor Nero]. The account is confirmed by the names of Peter and Paul over the cemeteries there, which remain to the present time. And it is confirmed also by a stalwart man of the Church, Gaius by name, who lived in the time of Zephyrinus, bishop of Rome. This Gaius, in a written disputation with Proclus, the leader of the sect of Cataphrygians, says this of the places in which the remains of the aforementioned apostles were deposited: ‘I can point out the trophies of the apostles. For if you are willing to go to the Vatican or to the Ostian Way, you will find the trophies of those who founded this Church’” (Disputation with Proclus [A.D. 198] in Eusebius, Church History 2:25:5).

When we are saved by grace we keep the commandments because we love Christ who died for us. It's because of love and not work. No one ever got saved by works. No one. The law was given to the lawless and not the righteous. It's common sense

The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians 89-117AD
For, since you are subject to the bishop as to Jesus Christ, you appear to me to live not after the manner of men, but according to Jesus Christ, who died for us, in order, by believing in His death, you may escape from death. It is therefore necessary that, as you indeed do, so without the bishop you should do nothing, but should also be subject to the presbytery, as to the apostle of Jesus Christ, who is our hope, in whom, if we live, we shall [at last] be found. It is fitting also that the deacons, as being [the ministers] of the mysteries of Jesus Christ, should in every respect be pleasing to all. For they are not ministers of meat and drink, but servants of the Church of God. They are bound, therefore, to avoid all grounds of accusation [against them], as they would do fire.

A very good explanation of Baptist history, but Pastor Jimenez's comments re incense are odd. Zachariah, the father of John the Baptist, had the lot of burning incense in the Temple. The golden censer was in the Holy of Holies. Angels offer incense at the Throne of God. Lk 1:8 Rev 8:3, 5 Heb 9:4 There is ample mention of burning incense in a thurible or censer throughout the Bible! Why would the pastor make fun of this, speaking as if he doesn't even know what this is? This greatly takes away from his testimony. Also, there were many holy bishops known for their Godly life and miracles who were present at Nicaea. I would like to see a more in depth, honest discussion of the early Church period, holding to the Truth without unnecessarily disparaging that which is Biblical.

    • @DiscerningWordBaptistChurch

He said: "why the Roman Catholic does all these weird, like Eastern mys(?)...there's like all these...candles...when you go to their funerals they've got I don't know like some bag, like vacuum bag that they're dusting out....." The Eastern Orthodox use incense at every single church service, the priest or deacon censing the people as a blessing. "Let my prayer rise before Thee as incense set before Thee" Ps 141:2. The way he speaks is as if he doesn't understand the concept of censing or offering incense in worship, which is shown not only in the Old Testament, but also in the New. This article illustrates it all very well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incense_offering. The question is not so much about the continued use of incense in New Testament worship as about why Pastor Jimenez would speak in such a disparaging way as if ignorant of the mention throughout the Bible of its use. To make a solid, honest and good defence of the Baptist faith it a disservice when any pastor (and I've heard many others do the same) simply speaks almost mockingly about a given thing without going more seriously into the history and theology of why it is an aberration, false doctrine, error or 'tradition of men'.

    I was raised Baptist.
    I was baptized at 13.
My brothers and sisters, Baptists are a part of a greater movement called Protestantism.
Protestants believe in Sola Scriputra, it is Latin, it means, the “Word alone”.
Martin Luther had this at the center of his reasoning for breaking away from the Catholic Church.
But as a Baptist, I learned in my adulthood that there is the Church Christ’s original Apostles founded, and it is called the Orthodox Church!
It comes before Protestants or Catholics, and here is the thing, they are the church that put the New Testament into pages!
Truly, I believe in the Lord’s word, and Christ has a bride, and it is the church, and that is the Orthodox Church that was founded by Christ’s apostle’s, and they transcribed Jesus’ ministry into pages.
Trust me, you can fact check me by researching the church’s history.
If the Apostle Paul walked among us today, he’d recognize an Orthodox service, but a Baptist service would confuse him.
Much love, trade potlucks for fasting, God Bless!

  • @Dandymancan
    @Dandymancan Před rokem +11

I will be doing a 6 part rebuttal on this video, today I will be reviewing the obvious errors and lies this untruthful origination spreads.
4:07 There lineage does not go back to the Apostles or Christ. The majority of the groups they claim to be Baptist were either closer to Catholicism or a type of Gnosticism/Manichaeism, I will be posting more information of some of the groups when the are mentioned and will be doing a comparison of their beliefs to the modern day Baptist beliefs.
5:51 It goes to show the incompetence of some of these "Pastors" if they only thought through some of the things they said I would have a little more respect for them. his claim which can be proven to be historically wrong is that he is claiming that in 30 AD there were New Testament Church's, really New Testament Church's in 30 AD. its very likely that not a LETTER of the New Testament was even written at this time and the Church was functioning solely on Oral Tradition.
9:30 you say that Christian was a derogatory term used to mock them and I would agree BUT I wanted to point out at which Church they was First called Christians and that was Antioch.
the story of Acts 11 took place about 43-44 AD and Peter was there for about 7 years before Going to Rome. His successor was Saint Evodius who then died in about 69 AD then Saint Ignatius became Bishop at Antioch. this is troubling because St Ignatius is in no way, size, shape or form Baptist but closely resembles what is taught in the Catholic Church. You can read his writing's that we are very sure he did write though their are some that are falsely acclaimed to him. There are seven that most scholars agree was written by him and they are The Epistle to the Ephesians, The Epistle to the Magnesians, The Epistle to the Trallians, The Epistle to the Romans, The Epistle to the Philadelphians, The Epistle to the Smyrnaeans, The Epistle to Polycarp, a bishop of Smyrna. During the beginning of the reformation many of his writings were claimed to be false because they are so Catholic, Later Textual Criticism strongly favors the writings are authentically his.
17:07 the Council of Nicaea was called to combat the Arian Heresy it was NOT this conspiratorial meeting these Men want you to believe. if you want to see what was discussed at the Council of Nicaea we have the complete Work of the Council. The university of California at Northridge puts it this was "The full texts of the 20 Canons issued by the Council survive, as well as ancient summaries of the texts, and the famous Nicene Creed." so nothing conspiratorial, just lack of investigation or pure misinformation done by these Men, we will be charitable and just call them ignorant rather then call them deceitful though the latter MAY very well be.
17:23 they were called Heretics because that is what they was. they denied the Deity of Christ. that's Heresy.
17:58 I would like to ask this man what on heavens earth would make him think Waldensians or Paulicians would be banned at the Council of Nicaea? THEY DIDNT EVEN EXIST YET!!! Paulicians were founded the mid 7th century 300 years after Nicaea happened the Waldensians didn't come along until 100 years after the Great Schism. this is utter foolishness and Parroting at its finest. well what about the Albigensian's? nope that's even farther away that's the 12th-13th century, what about the Anabaptist? now at this time any well informed Baptist successionist will be biting at the bit to correct me so when it comes along to the Anabaptist its important to know that Anabaptist was a 15th century Group But there was Groups before that that was labeled as Anabaptist because the word just means rebaptizer. so the Church grouped all the Anabaptist as 1 because they all rebaptized. that DOES NOT MEAN these are the same Group. they are VERY different. one quote used to support Baptist Sucessionism is a quote by Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius but a later critic of the quote proves exactly what I said, that Anabaptist as a term can mean many different groups it does not mean these groups would be anywhere near what the Anabaptist of the 15th century was.
18:53 do you have ANY evidence of that? the reason I am rebutting that in this way is because I know the answer is no.
welp we are 20 minutes in and already lies as expected. I will be doing the next 20 minutes next week the Lord be willing. its ashamed that i am doing such a thorough rebuttal of this but if this is what The Lord has put on my heart to do then I will be obedient.

@@DiscerningWordBaptistChurch well I do know that the Anabaptists at the time of the Reformation did not baptize by immersion and that was over 500 yrs ago. Perhaps the video shouldve made a distinction, because anyone who has studied history knows that when you use the word "anabaptists" it refers to amish/mennonites. Strictly speaking, anyone who "baptizes again" could be called "anabaptist" so in that case mormons and jw's could be lumped into that word. also the Waldensians and Paulicians had some heretical beliefs. Waldensian churches still exist in Italy as I have visited one. The undertone of the video implies that there MUST be a "succession" of churches going back to Christ for Baptists to be valid. However, if ANYONE starts a New Testament church based on the qualifications of scripture, it is a valid church even tho it did not come from another Baptist church. Church successionism is just as faulty as the catholic doctrine of apostolic succession. One doesnt need to prove their church descends from other churches to be valid as Landmarkism teaches. I totally disagree that the name "Christian" as a derogatory term. God would not let Gentiles name his New Testament people and the language used in Acts 11:26 "χρηματίσαι" means it was given by the inspiration of God. Isaiah 56:5 foretold that God would give his people a new name and it makes no sense that God would let Syrians label his people. Nero's second wife, it is said, had Jewish sympathies and that may be one reason why Nero did what he did. Moreover, Christian persecution, under Simon Bar Kokhba continued all the way up to the disappearance of the Jewish State in A.D.136.

In other words you can go to heaven without being baptized but that doesn’t negate that Baptism saves.
All early church fathers taught unanimously baptismal regeneration. The Paulicians were NOT baptist but heretics who are in hell if they did not repent. It goes to show how the idea of baptist successionism is a sorry put together idea that’s of the devil.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
      ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭38‬-‭39‬ ‭KJV‬‬
When St. Peter said the promise of baptism is for children, the word “children” (from the Greek teknon) also includes infants. This same word, teknon,is used later in Acts 21:21 to describe the circumcision of eight-day-old infants.
The Greek word for “household,” oikos, refers to all the members of a family, adults as well as infants and children. The Book of Acts speaks of whole households being baptized, so any infants and children who belonged to these households would have been included.
St. Paul baptizes Lydia with “her household” (16:15); the entire household of Cornelius (see 10:48; 11:14); the Philippian jailer “and all his family” (16:33); and the “household of Stephanus” (1 Cor 1:16). In none of these accounts is there ever any indication that infants and children are excluded from baptism.

Anyone worth their salt that has any honesty and integrity anywhere in their being can see through this a mile away!

You guys disprove your own claims yourself. You can’t have it both ways. So you claimed to break away from the church and you teach sola scriptura, sola fide , scripture alone, faith alone, Bible alone, etc …which is the antithesis of the early church! Geez, you can’t break away from all of that and break away from apostolic succession but then try to at the same time claim that you are part of the original or early church. The way I view it is that You are wrong and it shows. We profess the Nicene Creed, accept the Bible, receive the 7 sacraments. Jesus was a Jew, not a Christian and certainly not a Baptist. Saint John was never a Baptist neither.
Baptism is a requirement to enter the church and can be administered by immersion or by pouring over the forehead. It's called Christening which means to make one Christian. Baptisim is administered in the church by the front door because that shows the candidate is entering the church.
Scripture and tradition are on equal footing. There is more Scripture read on Sunday morning in a Catholic church than most other churches combined who only read a verse or two. The Lord's Supper is observed and prayers are offered. Acts 2:42. Saint John chapter 6.
Baptist is Protestant and came after the Great schism. Baptists are considered separated brethren. Just everything in this message rubbed me the wrong way because it is inaccurate.
There are Reformed Catholics out there. Some of them do happen to fall under the Protestant banner. Independent and Old Catholic, Methodists, Anglicans, Orthodox, etc. All Catholic!
