Normally, the ex would just say "I know you want me... Who's THIS bitch!?"
And the rival, himself, actually had more complex reasons than just "I'm better because my dad is X" or "You're just a dropout!" or "I'm popular and you're not! That means I win!". He feared Keiichi's revenge. That was brought about by his own actions towards Keiichi, and makes a lot of sense! Keiichi could've sworn that he wouldn't mix personal matters with professional obligations, but Mr. Tanaka wouldn't _be capable_ of believing him, due to the sheer magnitude of disrespect he had for Keiichi, both professionally and personally.
Most believable circumstances I've seen in a while. Not PERFECT nor GREAT, but if the normal antagonist-writing was a "5/10", this was about a 7/10.
