    WOW, MEMORIES FLOOD IN, I raced the Astute as a young teenager I ball raced it fitted a custom motor and that car was hard to keep the front wheels down. The car was my life as a boy. Thanks for the video

    Great channel and some lovely cars. I personally think it's a sacrilege to mess around with vintage models, in my opinion it undermines the whole point of buying them. So I'm obviously passionate about keeping that little piece of original history in its birthday suit.
    Keep up the great content.

      Yep I've made up my mind and I agree. She's getting a replacement oringal Tamiya body and stickers as well as a few original old stock parts but that's it. Finding it hard to find replacement front tyres.

    I just finished rebuilding my childhood Astute, but I added some parts so I can run it. I bought new rear hubs and associated hardware off of eBay from Jazrider. They are made of aluminum and the tolerances are super tight, all play eliminated!!! Still running the original front bulkhead!!!!

    Great project car 👌
    Once upon a time I'd upgrade it but now I like to leave things as they were set in their day, for character. That's just me though.
    Can't wait to see what you do with it 👍

      Well, it's getting a new Tamiya shell and decals. After that, I'm not sure. I will look to see if the Super Astute gearbox can be fitted to the Astute. If so that could be an option I guess?

      LOL For almost 30 years old its been looked after that's for sure. I talked with RC Retro (Big Astute fan and owner) I think I'm going to keep the Astute stock but replace a few parts for old stock original. The body will be replaced as well as a few undertray parts that have some road damage. After that, I'm just going to get a Super Astute as a sister car because that's already had all the update mods done for you. I can get a NIB and build it on the channel.

      Let me know if you find a place selling stock front tyres as I'm having trouble getting a set myself. Get saving for the Astute stickers as these cost a small fortune. I'm still feeling the pain from my sticker purchase.

  • @TheDeLeonGarageCollection

    I’ve been on the fence about restoring my original astute. I know it’s a little too late To find a reasonably priced parts. I know I will need at least wheels, tires and in your body set. I was wondering if you’ve ever had any experience with aftermarket Astute bodies created with the original specs? I’d say leave it stock if it will remain on the shelf. I upgraded my shocks early on.

  • @RCRetro
    @RCRetro Před 5 lety +2

    If it’s for the shelf and your not going to run it, then keep it as is without any mods. Showcase it for its historical significance, that being an over engineered disaster lol....but it sure is a great looking buggy.

  • @RobertNES816
    @RobertNES816 Před 5 lety

    Yeah that's what sucks about allot of these hobbies. People ruin the fun by asking stupid amounts of money for older items. Burns you out of it after a while, that's why I stick to more common cars and trucks. Although not as unique, they're super easy and cheap to get parts for.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  Před 5 lety +1

      Robert NES816 Yep it can get expensive on the old classics. Tamiya are missing a business opportunity not having a vintage department. It could sell low run batches for more than stock prices but not the bonkers amount people are asking. Vintage stickers could be sold for £20.00 vs the £70-80 on eBay. I’m sure that’s a good profit margin for Tamiya for just printing a sticker set that’s already been designed.

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816 Před 5 lety

      @@RCKickschannel They could just ask retail and not inflated prices. No need to raise the prices on parts made from already brittle ABS plastic.
