    Winter is like semi-hibernation mode. The rest of the year is hustle and bustle but winter is like let's chill and have some me-time. I also love to cross-country ski and play icehockey. Winter camping is also the best and sauna + snow + chilling with friends.

    Marriage brought me to Finland. I've seen plenty of winters but man you've jumped in the deep end!(Lapland). I knew from early on that I'd never want to leave the south. Down here we have probably the mildest weather of Finland.....and sometimes that is toooo much. We live too remote to ride a bike everywhere but I anyway ride around our island often. You might agree with me that Finland is one of the safest places to live. This also changes outlook and allows for a more relaxed life. (even moreso if there are children involved).

    I admire you for moving to the far north when the weather and culture couldn't be more different than what you are used to. Few within the southern parts would be prepared to do so. Nothing against the north, though.

      @juri_xiii9977 Před 8 měsíci

      Oh,please.. You think we don't have cabins just like the Northeners, and often in Lapland..?
      That's a bit too wide of a generalization..

    • @Juide80
      @Juide80 Před měsícem

      @@juri_xiii9977 He didn't mention cabins and no, I don't think it was a too wide of a generalization. I'm from Jyväskylä area which is in the middle of the southern part of Finland for those who didn't know and I don't think I could ever move into the Lapland.
      I think Oulu would be the absolute maximum north I could even consider living but I wouldn't want to live north from here, although I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, period. This isn't the richest place but the people are just the best. Nothing against any other places but I think I just was born right into my right place and I love it.

    I'm pretty sure that Canada has similar winter to us considering that the upper part of it is also on artic circle. They will also lose sun in there for the winter months. Could also be colder since they have sea border on there too. And then there is a lot of mountain areas next to the Canada/US border so that will also create difference with the weather. The mountains can be really snowy during winter.

    Hah. Just like every event in Sweden there is meatballs. Finnish sausages and beer (and of course mustard) are such a classic combination at summertime. It is also so easy to warm sausages at the grill or bonfire and grilled sausages are always good. It doesent matter is it summer or winter but hot sausage is the thing over here.
    To day is saunaday for me and about 30 mins and i´ll go to sauna ❤.

      @@spyro257 I don´t have much of experinces of german beers. Only few that are sold in Lidl, some better some worse. Same thing with sausages. What comes to danish beers i´ve drinked at least Tuborg, Faxe and Elephant beer. All of those have been sold in ferries that goes from here to Sweden (well Tuborg is propably sold in all bigger markets here too).
      But if i could choose what ever i´d like to drink i propably would drink some dutch beers like Heineken, Oranjeboom or Bavaria. Those are quite close to finnish beers.

    As a Finn I used to ride a bike to school every day since 4th grade or something. After I moved to Helsinki I've never done that in more than 20 years. To me it's just a crazy idea to have to mingle with cars on the same road, since you don't really stand a chance against a 2 ton hunk of metal. Works great in the smaller cities though.

    I have followed you for some time, maybe I saw some of your videos before you even moved to Finland. I have huge respect for you. I dont actually know how big town/city you move from, but even in finnish perspective if you move to Sodankylä, you are moving to smaller place, no matter where from. I know you know what I mean. I live in the Helsinki area and only place I would move from here is Lapland. I am a extrovert/introvert. I feel comfortable with the people, no matter how many, but I also enjoy not seeing anyone in days or weeks. Also money spending life here in Helsinki would be much more in Lapland, except skiing centers of course. I have dreamed to throw my phone to lake and move to Lapland to dig gold but unfortunately and probably good for me that they have banned it. Or at least banned it in big scale. But anyway you are a bad ass living in Sodankylä. Not everyone can do it and you have been there for quite long time. I enjoy watching your videos to see your perspective of life in here and in general.

  • @Beorninki
    @Beorninki Před 8 měsíci +7

    As a Finn I agree. But. It is not impossible to do outside things i wintertime. It is nt impossible, it is just different. You can make trips to forest and, if you want to, make camp and stay day or two in wilderness without too much difficulties (of course you need some experience and some proper equipment). You can try to catch a fish, not in midwinter but springtime. Ice fishing, pilkkiminen, is free for everyone. If you want to kill furry animals with big eyes, it is possible (not very easy if I'm honest, and I am). You can swim, of course you need to get chainsaw, but many finns like to swim in cold water, I don't understand why but this is true. I think that just making love and fighting are little bit difficult hobbies in winter (outside) because you need to have so much clothes.

    I have a fatbike that I ride both summer and winter, that's one thing you can do all year. Although it's not as fun during winter, and the places you can ride your bike is a bit more limited during winter. I like to ride in the forest, you can even do that in the winter somtimes if someone has packed down the snow with a snowmobile or something.

  • @Songfugel
