- I'm at an Indian bus station to show you how to travel by bus in India - even when the station has no English signs. Travelling by bus in India is the cheapest way to get around and sometimes your only option if trains or flights aren't available.
I'll show you how to find your bus at a bus station - even if it every sign is in Hindi, how to ask your driver where bus is going, where to book a bus, what amenities are available at a rural bus terminal, what the differences between local and sleep busses are, how to get off the bus at the right stop, and a ton more tips that'll help you travel comfortably by bus around India.

4:38 Fake Water? I meant counterfiet. Can you trust counterfeit water? I wouldn't trust counterfeiters, but I drank it once and I was fine. But who knows about next time. It's counterfeit, so you never know what other dodgy things they are doing, or if it's even filtered water. I talk about it more in this video

It looks like its a case of few bus stations (in this case - Haryana) which doesn't have English on the navigation boards. I am from Kerala. I have been to various places in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh (Literally all of South). I have found English along with regional language on most of the navigation boards in almost all main bus and train stations. And a derate number of people in south Indian cities speak English. Especially in Kerala, even people in villages may surprise you with English.
maaan u missed kerala one of best in india
Karl Rock bro I'm from Hansi I wanna meet u, I have seen ur traveling videos
Hey bro Hansi is my hometown if you come next time I want to meet you . Thanks for visiting.
I always used to destroys my bottles so the could not be reused and you could tell by the inferior plastic removable covering if it was tap water. One problem is this water has barely any minerals and you piss the water out quick.

This is what hardly any travel blogger or vlogger shows. The very basics. Appreciate your work.
This guy knows about India more than I have known in 20 years.
I used to find it stressful to catch a bus when I was in India but I always enjoyed it. My husband hates travelling but I loved it going from Delhi to Punjab always had lots of fun. Last year we went on a private bus to Rajasthan had the sleeper bunker it was awesome I've never been on a bus like that before I loved it.Thanks Karl for showing us and giving us guidance.
Clear and safe drinking water during travel in remote places of India is huge challenge for Indians and foreigners alike....
An isuue well addressed by Mr Rock

You really should go India is such a beautiful place has wonderful places to visit.
You are most welcomeâ€ïžđ

Yuvraj Paul Thank you!! I hope to visit within the next 1-2 years! :)
You should visit Ancient temples like kailasa TEMPLE, ramappa etc etc
Donât forget never take a cookie from the man in the cabin in front of you as you walk past.
Damn..I got that reference . That video is legendary.
Eww also he had bitten into that cookie đ„ also that youtubers friend was very rude as a traveler if you know
Harold Baldr
Chills i watch that scene before going to this vedio
Jai bhole ki! Would be awesome to see Karl collaborating with them
In southern India, most buses have unique numbers (not like the serial numbers you see in this video) and English labels for folks that can't read the local language. It doesn't cost much to assign numbers to buses but it makes a significant difference.
It's amusing to me that this is exactly how buses work in Indonesia as well, almost down to the details đ
I m from Haryana ....This is Hansi bus stand....I used to be a daily passenger in my student life...Haryana roadways both fun and frustration at same time ...Enjoy your trip bro

2:29 The famous image of people on top of bus rooftops. I used to think that image was photoshopped.
I never experienced in my life I visited so many places urban as well as rural, only such type of incident happened in some part of haryana and Rajasthan
Those images you saw on Google are from Bangladesh where huge masses board the train and look silly đ
It is not usual. I have never seen this in real so far being an Indian. And I've heard that it happens when any festival is near. More people start moving their home. And I think in this video it's because Diwali festival is near.
I hope the authorities and the administration starts more buses / trains in order to get rid of these dangerous practice.
@Rohit Patel I'm from UP and never saw this my entire life. Though have seen in movies but never in real life that people are traveling on the bus rooftop.
Very helpful and informative video. đđŒ
Most bus station in Southern India and Gujarat and Maharashtra have English time table and you can book online. Also I recommend booking online checking reviews than booking offline.
Very very precise information..good work bro... keep ROCKing!!!
Like it đđ»đđ», exactly good information about India bus services

One thing is sure, people do help as they can to travellers and this is same across many states.
The biggest advantage of traveling in govt bus is safety. Even if the bus gets malfunction or anyother issue, they will make sure you reach destination for what u paid. And if by chance you forgot to deboard, u will end up at a proper bus stop. In cases of private buses they usually operate between cities (with pickup and drop points which are not bus stops).
Gujarat state
Government buses are much luxurious nd much good. In all india.
You can book it by gsrtc website.
OMG! Buses are so mad in India. But also one of the cheapest modes of getting around, especially for rural/town folks who need to get off at smaller locations.
Karl, it's difficult for us who can read Hindi. I remember once my RSRTC Volvo never turned up and I kept waiting in Delhi June hot heat for 3 hours!!! Finding YOUR bus is a treasure hunt!
This video is great. Great for new, clueless people who are completely lost in the swarm of buses and people. I really wish the terminals were cleaner.
And I amazed at how much you've demystified India and the everyday problems. Great work! :)
Haha I like how you called it a treasure hunt đ
congratulations Karl i guess u have now become a complete indianđ
wow...
i came to this channel today and subscribes immediately.
lots of love.
In Delhi you can go in metro station
You got off at peeragarhi....it's like just 10 minutes distance from my home.

go to south india.. hyderabad-- bangalore and local areas in andhra, you will see only volvo scania buses and tickets pretty cheap too.
I wish I knew this 20 years ago. Utterly mad and sane at the same time. My cousin just told me 'Paji, do not travel Punjab Buse's'
Love to see your documentary

Iâve been watching your videos for 2 years now and Iâve enjoyed every video!!!!
Please Karl you should have to meetup in delhi or something places near to your home well I am from Nangloi, delhiđđ
well, you can also book a private volvo from several online apps like Railyatri, red bus, etc.
Love your videos bhai
Wow videos always keep it up
If that's a small town, I can't imagine how crazy a place like Agra would be
Well it's a big city, used to be the Mughal capital and is now a major tourist destination.
yeah, "small town" is a bit of misnomer
You should note that when it comes to buying tickets for private busses as well as trains you sometimes have to go through brokers and they will occasionally try and rip you off. That happened to me in Jaipur. Luckily a local who was traveling on the same bus stepped in and straightened things out for me. Overall, I had a blast and met so many friendly people on the busses and trains. This video makes me want to go back again. Definitely learn to adjust your expectations. Everything happens and moves at different speeds. Thatâs just part of the experience. Now Iâm thinking about all the great food I ate.
Try Google lens for translating local languages into English etc
Well what if the network is down???
If you donât have an Indian phone number you often canât log on to a lot of the wifi services. I found that all over northern India. I couldnât use the free wifi at train stations or the airport because I didnât have an Indian phone number. I couldnât even use the free wifi at Starbucks in Delhi because I didnât have an Indian phone number. But I was able to use wifi at hotels and guests houses.
@c van sh when a cell is down it does not matter what carrier you are using jio, airtel, bsnl all signals die out. Then Google becomes shoegal get it đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđđđđ

Wow. I like the buses in India. They look, Hmmmm, what's the right word - authentic.

These videos are a big help to me as well...as an Indian
Government busses also have a/c, sleeper and online booking. This is usually when you travel between cities. Most of the states have it.
Only on big ISBT or terminals.
amazing video.

Sir in northern part of west Bengal the government buses are better than private ones.same in kolkata
@ResearchShyVids ya I guess so but do you ppl have electric buses in Delhi?
Taking the bus is one of the things I haven't yet done since moving to India, should give it a try sometime!
Its a combo of fun and frustration
Bisleri is the best with TDS or you can also get Himalya mineral water
Karl dude u r amazing o
I find this bus station are EXACTLY the same as the bus station 25-30 years ago in China. My father just tell me how he climbed into the bus through windows when he was an undergraduate student.

Nice video karl, Next time make a video on sleeper bus ride b'coz many foreign tourist are scammed by operators and also find difficulty in understanding india's travel culture.,,,,âșïž
I hate going on them... The way the drivers drive scares me haha. Good idea though, I'll try do it
Hey Karl please come to Mangalore I will show you how Govt ac bus looks like
Excellent video and so helpful. Could you comment on two aspects. If you have a suitcase is there generally storage in the "outside" of the bus and is this usually considered safe and reliable.
Secondly, what is the position on pre-allocated seats on the private buses
Thanks
Thanks. Storage is safe enough, just don't leave valuables in it. Or anything that can break. No pre-allocated seats. Even if they are allocated, people don't seem to follow it on most buses. Someone is always in my damn seat. The rules will be followed on more expensive fancy buses, but they're rare
@@KarlRock Many thanks Karl. Have been enjoying your videos for a while now. They offer a great perspective on a country that is now one of my favourite destinations. When you get through your upcoming videos on trains and planes you may like to look at the use of long distance car sharing apps such as Blah Blah. Thinking of giving it a go on my next trip.
Cheers
Great hindi Karl and great video. wanted to ask you do people really sit on top of the bus. man thats crazy.
Thanks. Yup, it's common in Haryana and Rajasthan đ And dangerous I guess. I don't have the guts to try đ
the ac bus reminds me of philippine buses that people gets on the bus and sell snacks
All the curious Indian faces gathering around behind you and looking at the camera when you are talking about the fake water is friggin' hilarious. Brilliant.
Haryana roadways too provide online booking Between major bus terminals (A.C. buses too). There is an official website as well as app. (haryanatrans)
