Why Foreigners Don't Trust Indians in India (Tourist Trap Scam)
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 14. 12. 2019
- Kerala's famous Chinese Fishing Nets are the site for a popular sympathy scam that's taking advantage of foreigners. The fishermen pretend to be friendly locals and invite you onto their fishing nets, only to ask you for a donation!
This is precisely why a lot of foreigners are worried about meeting Indians on the street in India. They've had too many bad experiences with scammers who they thought were friendly locals. Scammers in India see foreigners as walking ATMs that they can manipulate into giving a lot of money.
Travel safely and confidently in India with my Quick-Start Safety Guide at indiasurvivalguide.com.
In some cases of this fishing net scam, the fisherman will take your photo and then not give your camera back until you pay them enough money. Many foreigners have been caught up by this scam.
It's a misconception that scams aren't taking place in South India. In most cases, local Indians have no idea these scams exist because they don't frequent their city's tourist attractions and aren't targeted by scammers.

@Chris Ruiz I'm Spanish native and for some reason ÂżCĂłmo se llama? sounds weird to me like it is lacking something. I would rather say ÂżCĂłmo se llama usted?, because ÂżCĂłmo se llama? alone is not defining the subject for example if you say that to anyone walking a dog, ÂżCĂłmo se llama? they will immediately think that you are asking for the dog's name the last thing that is going to be on their minds is that you are asking for their name.
if you wanna sound formal it would be best to say ÂżCuĂĄl es su nombre?.

I'm from kerala and I live in america. I came to kerala to visit now 3 times. I'm so sorry about the scammers, because of them people think that all Indians are scammers. I hope for more foreigners to live in india like you. :)
Not only them ,it's also the irs scam calls that are 99% Indians
Obviously not all Indians are scammers. We know that. The issue is such a significant portion of the interaction foreigners have with Indians is based upon scamming.
My gran just hangs up the phone immediately when she hears someone with an Indian accent on the end just to be safe. That's how bad it is.
You can expect a large number of desperate people in poor/developing countries across the world. ... Why pick on India alone ?

No, just to shut him up and give him a small break.100 rupees is just spare change. Less than one dollar U.S.
So, I've done this, many years ago, only the fisherman was sober - I was invited out onto a fishing net in Kochi, watched the sunset and at some point the fisherman said something that made me realise this wasn't free. I have to say though, I didn't mind. I'd been looking forward to seeing the nets for years and hadn't realised I'd be able to climb out on one. The sunset was beautiful, I got some great photos and I didn't mind forking out a few rupees for the opportunity. I live in a fishing community and I know that it's a precarious occupation, and it's obviously much more so in Kochi.
I do, that said, understand the point about how this kind of thing stokes paranoia and makes tourists much warier than they need to be. It's depressing when you think you might be having a genuine friendly encounter and then the sales pitch starts and you remember you're just a wallet on legs. It would be pleasanter if people were upfront and had a little sign saying 50rp for a net tour (or whatever).
But it's also important to keep a sense of perspective. It's too easy to let one shitty occurrence take precedence in your mind. A couple of years ago I travelled alone from Delhi to Bikaner via the Shekhawati region (which is gorgeous, I can thoroughly recommend it), and I had a great time. I met so many lovely, helpful people, including a wonderful guesthouse owner in Nawalgarh, who gave me a free guided tour and drove me out of the district gratis to catch a bus during a local bus strike. No negative experiences whatsoever. Then I arrived in Bikaner, and the bus driver's assistant told me I had to give him 200rp to get my luggage out of the storage compartment. It was something like my 13th visit to India and I knew this was garbage and told him so, and he instantly relented. I wandered off into Bikaner mumbling, 'Screw this place, jerks like that trying to take advantage, why do I keep coming here?' Then I gave myself a good talking to. I'd just let that single unpleasant experience cancel out all the good ones. I guess that's human nature, but it sucks. India shouldn't have to constantly remind its visitors to keep a sense of perspective.
Legend has it that Michael Jackson gave him 400 rupees and asked him to beat it

When I was travelling through North America, either in New York City or Toronto, there was a legitimate Red Cross advertisement on the car of a subway train stating that we could receive a free first aid book by texting the number provided on the poster. I just wanted to try, even though I had no fixed location there. After disclosing some information, almost at the final stage, the process was effectively halted by a message stating that I would receive the free book only if I donated to them. It was not mentioned anywhere on the poster. Cheaters come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The U.S. has businesses that will scam or try to scam customers if the customers don't know too. Just different methods of scamming.
Something similar happened to me both in Bodrum, Turkey and at the Eiffel Tower. I was given a rose. I didn't ask for it, they just shoved it into my hand and then demanded money. I told them no and to take the rose back. They wouldn't take it, so I threw the rose on the ground and started shouting, LOUDLY, about giving someone something without their permission and then demanding money. There were too many people around so they left, startled.

From a keralite.
Not everyone is like that scammer.
Please don't apologise, he wanted this scam to happen for his "youtube content". Every travellers knows there are good and bad people in every part of the world.
@@anuroopkp6167 wtf is wrong with you đ He shows these scammers so people can avoid them and enjoy the good parts of India when they visit
His channel mostly showing the scammers.
In kerala he found only few scams
That's why he left kerala.
@@athulmurali1634 he shows every part of India, not just scam. And we instead of bitching abt should accept cuz that's the reality. We are being shown by foreigners, atleast we can improve the tourism here.
@@anuroopkp6167 bruh let that ego go away and accept the reality to make a place more friendly for tourism. Now you think only Joseph scam people? I've seen another similar video where these fishing net people scamming others. They're dependent on scamming completely it just ruins the image of your own place, there are good sides sure, but we must focus on shortcomings and accept critisism

CANT STOP LAUGHING đđđđđđ
I began watching a number of KRs videos today about scammers fleecing the tourists. It is no wonder that some of these folks get pissed at him when they get out on CZcams. Although its valuable info, he should be very careful and bring someone along for support.
