SAVED FROM A TOUT by Indian Police! (India Hotel Scams)

- While arriving at an Indian airport, a scammer tried to convince me to change my hotel reservation and tell lies about the hotel that I'd booked. But then comes along Officer Singham from the Jammu & Kashmir Police to get this guy off my back and see me safely to my hotel! Thank you to him, he's doing a great job protecting tourists.
This tout wanted me to stay in a houseboat he's affiliated with. Due to the tourist slow down in Kashmir Valley, there is no shortage of houseboats available. There are literally hundreds of empty houseboats on Srinagar's Dal Lake. These houseboat touts will commonly offer you 1-night of free accommodation just to get you to the boat. These offers are usually dodgy. They won't tell you the rest of the costs until the next day after you've already stayed there 1 night, then you're in for a shock!
When booking hotels in India, make sure you check reviews online and book yourself! Don't rely on a guy you meet outside the airport ever!
If you didn't get a Singham reference: Singham is a good cop from a movie franchise of the same name. When you hear the Singham theme music, you know justice is going to be served!

The reason is that kerosene, wood or coal heaters are extremely common in Jammu & Kashmir. Because when too many people use electric heaters at the same time, it often causes voltage fluctuations in your local grid.

Honestly I'm mexican and I've been there so so many times and it kinda reminds me of it xD just the whole stay vigilant, watch your back dont do anything drug related. I guess the only difference is dont talk to the cops if you're in a tourist area talk to the mafia there. They'll take care of you

Karl I love how you have been exposing scammers! Being an expat here it gets very frustrating! I have a small request my cousin is looking for a groom online she is on sites like matrimonial, Shaadi etc. There have been a handful genuine profiles but mostly are fake asking for extremely personal information like address. I believe there have been lots of marriage scams online these days. Please try to expose these guys Karl. Hopefully you will help lots of people who can fall trap to such situations.
Thanks karl for your informative videos. I think what you are telling us applies to most tourist destinations not just india. I have travelled around the world and it's surprising how legitimate seeming some of the scammers are. The point is to do your own research and not trust even the friendliest of faces. If you arrived in a place without prior bookings, so long as you can get internet access, you can sit in a cafe and do your research there. Just keep your wits, passport and money about you!

I was in Srinagar in 1978 and it was beautiful and have wished to go back but after seeing your video I will remember my memories from 1978. A side note Sri Lanka is the same now touts everywhere I first visited in 1982 and come back regularly to visit close friends but get hasselled all the time even though I have a good knowledge of Singhalese! A paradise lost! Love your You Tubes!

I really like to watch your videos, I have spend a holiday in India myself, me and my friend. Two girls from Germany in Delhi, in Goa and in the golden triangle. I was a really interesting experience. Fortunately we had a friend over there who helped us with drivers and hotels. I really like how you talk to the indian people even if they try to scam or even if they are rude. You seem to be above those thing that happen, but still friendly. Thank you

What impresses me the most is that the scammer doesn`t care if there`s a police officer next to him or not. That shows me how determined these guys are. Or maybe normally the police doesn`t act, they just did it in this case because Karl was filming the whole scene. I never wanted to go to India, but now I`m pretty sure I`ll never go there:D
