Have lost my mind over the past 2 1/2 mowing seasons. Riding mower was stuttering. Cleaned the carb, changed fuel lines, tuneup, 2 new fuel pumps, consulted mower repair shop. A week ago, the mower started stuttering and dying and I remembered hearing about "vapor lock" several years ago when I having a problem with a chainsaw. Took the gas cap off the mower for a second and it stopped the vapor lock. Going back to check if muffler is loose or what else might be causing the prob. Thanks for restoring my sanity

I wrapped the carb on my deere x530 in titanium insulating tape. I also did it too the fuel line and muffler. I then blew out all the dirt inside the engine housing. Mower works great again!

I just open and close that gas cap.

Great explanation. Thank you!! I have a similar issue with my John Deere X300. When it gets hot, it's hard to start. I have to crank it over for at least 4-5 seconds. Sometimes I'll get a popping sound, which to me means fuel starvation. The gas filter is almost always empty but they say that's normal for this model. I suspect vapor lock as the hot start problem. Probably caused by inadequate heat shielding on the carb bowl. Thoughts?
