    Quit smoking, quit drinking, endeavour to get good quality sleep, train rigorously 4-5 times a week in the gym , eat a good healthy diet and you’ll be surprised at how well your body starts performing regardless whether you’re 18 or 50 . Remember…..

    Great advise, Jake! You’re telling John the straight up truth, he’s 30 and has a great life, a job, a kid and a degree. Going in the military as enlisted is not smart, it sucks living in the barracks or on ship, almost like jail. Being a junior enlisted guy at 30, doing typical shit details in basic or the fleet would really suck. I hope he takes your advise!🤙

    Great video Jake. I’m a very similar situation lol. I’m 29, But I was in the navy for 6 years as an FC so I’m going back in as an E-5 for 18x. I leave next Tuesday, Aug 16, for OSUT at Fort Benning. It was a very quick process for me, within 10 days of talking to a army recruiter, I was at meps and signing my contract for 18x, this was back in June. Only focus in life right now is making it through. I have no wife/gf and no kids. So zero distractions for me. Just throw some of the good chi my way man 🤘🏻.

    For those thinking about joining the military, it's not for everyone but for those who want to or are waiting to ship out. Here's what I saw while in Army basic training back in 2013.
    I was one of the very few older guys and I saw a lot of guys and girls at basic training crack or breakdown while in Red Phase (Red Phase is the beginning of basic training for the Army. I'm not sure if they changed it or not). Not everyone is mentally prepared to step away from home since I saw a lot of younglings (ages 17 - 19) cry and wanted to quit since joining the Army was their first real experience away from being home or being out of their comfort zone, and I saw a good number of guys and girls who did not prepare themselves for the physical aspect of basic training.
    Jake hit the nail on the head about combat. There's no more fighting going on. Believe me, I was a B12 (combat engineer) and didn't deploy which sucked since all the fighting done by the time I joined and go to my guard unit. I'm not mad or salty about it since it is what it is (I did my time and got out). I did go to Afghanistan for contracting work and I definitely learned a lot from the combat veterans and those who were in at the time.
    As for those who are in their mid 20s on up. If you have a good paying civilian career and want to join. I'd recommend joining the National Guard or reserves (Don't mind those who call you a weekend warrior/part-timer. Just remember, you joined to serve our country).

  • @JacobAndJamal
    @JacobAndJamal Před 2 lety +10

    I went through TACP school house as a guardsmen at 34 because I had that itch to do something “high speed” . It was fun for a few, did some good training, cool trips. But even as a TACP in guard, the orders dry up and you’re back looking for a civilian job or school . Some make it work, but I didn’t like juggling multiple careers ,family, and other goals.
    Ended up doing a weird career switch last year at 40; and going AD Navy as a IW Officer. It was def challenging being older enlisted . Not just maintaining your health & fitness, but the dynamics of having younger supervisors and teammates. Officer side feels more in line with a job someone over 30 would have (if that makes sense) . I know ALOT of guys out here 30+ feel that window of opportunity to do “cool” things is closing , but everything Jake said is spot on . Really got to think big picture where you want to be 5-10yrs down the road.
    Minus a few exceptions, most my military peers who joined w me years ago who are now making big $ , house, and successful did things like Cyber & Comms, then retired or got out. getting the Security clearance jobs and high paying tech jobs . A lot of my OEF/OIF infantry types friends are still trying to find themselves outside the military 😔

    Army National Guard Infantry might be a good idea for this guy if he really feels like he needs to chase that desire. 6 months in Fort Benning then just reserve training (other than deployments), if he joined a good unit in one of the better states he could get schools (air assault, mountain, ranger) if he performs well enough. He could keep his job and civilian life, but also get the experience and training he wants. Hardest part would be putting up with all the BS lower enlisted deal with in the beginning. Just a thought

    The best part about this content is that he’s being absolutely blunt. He’s not going to sugar coat shit. People don’t appreciate how valuable that is. A lot of people in the world will lie to you just to make you feel alright. Truth is every person asking question has there mind made up prior either they gonna strive for sum or not it’s all mentality. If they end up not going with Jake’s advice they can either dig in and try and prove him wrong and take their own risk in making it orrr bite the bullet and take the easy way. But the easy way isn’t the military way and most certainly not the seal team or ranger way.

    When I was in Army infantry basic I was 19. We had an older guy in our platoon he was in his early 30's we called him "Pops" he ended up getting booted for something medical. When you are in your 30's its hard on your body to keep up with those little youngsters. Even myself at 19 ended up with a stress fracture from those ruck marches and had a tennis shoe profile for a few weeks. Its a lot to think about at that age.

    This guy should look at national guard SF. Can always go active if he wants. He could totally enlist. With a degree he’ll get E4. There’s tons of guys who go at 30 dude. I recommend army though. 18x green beret. They look for older guys anyway. They get E6 automatically after they get the beret. That’s som good rank for 2 years in. If you get injured or fail, you’ll be infantry for your contract. Best contract for a 30 year old. Rangers is a young man’s game. Stay away from rangers or seals. Especially if you’re east coast. Green beret training is all on the east coast

    • @kylecordy7987
      @kylecordy7987 Před 2 měsíci

      I second this. You can do a 3 year 11B contract and attend SFRE. My state holds them every quarter. If you crush it in that they’ll release you to a training detachment so instead of going to normal drill they just train you up for selection. Probably the best route you can go imo. Going the officer route just adds extra steps unless you really want to be a manager

She’s not gonna make it” long story short I chose us and the family over a dream. It was worth it, but even then we have to work and face difficult conversations with each other often because this military lifestyle. All of my peers have been divorced at least once, that’s just regular Marine Corps/greenside Navy shit. Saying you’ll be supportive and then being “three weeks to the field little to no contact being a single mom or flat out alone” is not something easy. Not too mention the guys or gals ain’t perfect we come with our own frustrations and needs to regroup. That’s just to be “average” if you’re an above average troop you’re pushing hard either way. You never know until you know I guess. Good luck to you though and at 30 I’d never enlist as a E nothing. Hahahaha do some hard shit. Funny, I went through Army ROTC for a simple commission and the cadre thought I was out of my mind going through the course at that age. I had underclassmen who were A DECADE younger than me. We'd do PT tests and the cadre often didn't have the grid for my age range. I didn't think it was all that physically tough, even though I'd never had to push myself much before then; I just wanted it THAT bad and never once even contemplated quitting. I pinned on the butter bars when I was 28 and the youngest I pinned on with was about 5 years younger than me (and we was prior service). Many of my NCOs in my first lime unit thought I had to be prior enlisted. One thing that helped being that age is that I'd already made my worst decisions in life before then. I DID NOT go out and get drunk at nights anymore by then and had enough life experience to be able to make better decisions than I would have had I pinned on O1 at the age of 20 or 21 like so many do. Those few years made a big difference. It was also funny when a few of my NCOs realized I was older than they were! One told me he couldn't think of an easy way to insult me because we were almost the same age...

I don’t want to wait an extra 2 years in the big Army doing dumb shit, I’d rather go SF and commission later.

    Bro it’s crazy because I’m 29 and i want to go out for Army Rangers and I served 6 years in the damn Army National Guard though. I was a good soldier, but i regret not going active right after high school. I have a lot of questions myself, pretty similar to him. I want to do something more like be apart of something bigger than myself and idk what my calling is. I’m just procrastinating because there’s so much i want to do. Then like you said you’ll be 29/30 and having 19/24 year olds telling you what to do and shit, but I’m not even trying to look at it in that way.

I’m 29, i went straight in at 18 and was so young and honestly was scared to leave my hometown, but now I’m older and i want to go before i get too old and regret not at least doing a 3 years contract and seeing the world and just having that real experience along the way. Just being apart of something bigger than myself. I’m still fit physically, I played football, basketball & ran track in high school and now I box 🥊 so I’m still fit. No wife or kids just a gf. So i really want to say fuck it and try for rangers if i failed then at least I can say I actually went and tried the shit, but I know it’s all about your mentality and just not giving up.

IT was ok but not what I wanted to do at all. It’s a roll of the dice. Should of could of would of… If I could go back I would not of joined and I would have done something different. 29 was too old and I had a degree.

      Hi, I’m a 21 year old woman and I’m training to become a US Navy SEAL. How should a woman prepare for BUD/S? How are women treated in BUD/S? Do you have any advice for preparation? I’m a civilian and I want to go enlisted.
      According to what some BUD/S dropouts told me, one female SEAL candidate broke her legs in Basic Orientation (BO) which is the first two weeks of BUD/S, another female SEAL candidate broke her legs in BUD/S Prep and a third female SEAL candidate got rolled back in BO for stress fractures. None of them made it.
      In November 2021, a woman made it to first phase of BUD/S for the first time in history but she quit on day one after the first hour.

      @@Anonymous18817 If that’s you in your profile picture, I’d want you in my class.
      In all seriousness, I saw in one of your past comments that you said towards the end of the comment something along the lines of “it all seems so hopeless” in regards to a female making it through due to the results of the few who have tried.
      Truth be told, if you have those sorts of thoughts creeping into your head already before you’ve even been to bootcamp, then that’s not a good sign.
      BUD/S is a mental beat down just as much if not more than it is a physical beat down. The instructors will find, target, and exploit your mental, emotional, and physical soft spots.
      And the day to day living conditions as a low ranking enlisted person will not exactly be pleasant. Your personal privacy will be almost non-existent.
      Why specifically do you want to become, and perform the job of a SEAL?
      Your “reason-why” will be questioned and essentially interrogated many times, so talking this shit out ahead of time is very beneficial. Especially anonymously.

    Lmao I promise Zweig is not lying. I went in at 28 as a MARRIED man, enlisted with a SO contract. Had degree but I wanted quicker route to BUDs. My Wife got sick and right before I left for BASIC Bootcamp she lost her pregnancy. She wasn’t doing hot back at home, I didn’t really know bc I was locked 🔒 in focused but soon as I graduated and enter the pipeline for prep, all the demons came knocking. All the issues came knocking. Did prep work for weeks and finally got my orders to Coronado in my hands for BO. I realized shit wasn’t sweet when it came to really sacrificing it all. Marriage was fucked up had to make a hard call. Ended up turning them orders in went through hardship discharge with wife being sick. I couldn’t live with myself doing a dream at a cost of another’s mental health. It is what it is. All I can say is for anyone reading, shit gets weird when u try something as big as this with any attachments such as a marriage back at home. It will be a big negative almost every time. Do this shit while u younger or do this type of shit if u ain’t got squat in your life that can steer you away from the mission. I was a very hard headed guy I thought I could be a SEAL and be a supportive husband for my wife who wasn’t doing well back home. Just wasn’t the case. Ended up taking half a year for me to realize that. Not saying there isn’t any married SO guys out there but I bet there ain’t many. And going into this pipeline as already married… hahah ya don’t count on it.

    I think Jake is just being brutal honest. Reality is a bitch. I remember one of my buddies was an Ranger Instructor. As a PT instructor his favorite number was 200, push ups, side straddle hops, sit ups, mtn climbers, you name it. When he put his package in, he was 30, IOBC thought he was too old. They said, he could not handle the PT, lmao. In the Army as an Infantry officer the triple crown is EIB, Airborne wings, Rgr Tab. He had all of those. Matter of fact he had a CIB from Grenada. The Colonel asked the IOBC commander to trout the best ones out there. This man would PT them in the ground. That said, if he wins you admit him. Last time I saw him he was a Major.
