Ranger Bat + Qual 06’ - 16’ Jake is right, you’re most likely to see action now at Ranger bat since bat is still primary QRF for most JSOC ops, and holds security better. Seals have been stuffed in a closet for awhile now. Even DEV is collecting dust outside their intel squad, whereas CAG and most Army SF and intel are in Ukraine right now, as well as the other Muj locations the DoD will always be in forever. I think NSW actually did fuck itself from how HIVIS they’ve been lately.

Good luck young man. If it were me knowing what I know, I’d go Rangers and then explore SF. Being former NAVY there is no way I’d go out to the fleet undesignated to chip paint. 6 years is to long to serve if you were to medical or quit in Buds. The guys in (deck devision ) hated it and they were only on 2 year contracts. Imagine your entire uniform ruined and covered in grease and paint... spending all day in the paint locker. Hanging over the side of the ship when in port chipping paint. So many guys were telling me how they were so pissed at their recruiters. Best of luck to you however it sounds like you’re in great shape. 👍

What my buddy (active team guy) told me was “truly evaluate yourself, what do you think could possibly make you quit during buds, attack that now. And are you willing to pay the ticket” similar to your black out stories.
said he was terrified of drowning before 1st phase; it happened a number of times and became alright with it. He was aware and mentally prepared for it beforehand (it was a battle until finishing pool comp though in 2nd phase). He also swears by pre training for the cold - he sat in 42 degree pools during winter time in Texas (helped joints get used to being cold to avoid some injuries some guys get due to that)
In other words, be real with yourself and attack the shit you may see yourself having problems with. It’s the same reason why you get in physical shape for bud/s, not to make buds easy - but to make it help in not quitting/performance dropped. Physical standards are a given to prepare for, mental is not. “Just wanting it bad enough” is not enough. Are you willing to pay the ticket during your most specific uncomfortable time(s) is the real thing - instead of the old “die before you quit” mantra that everyone goes into phase with

I’d be interesting to see a study on the background of SOCOM GUYS, especially SEALs, DEVGRU, and CAG. I’m sure you’d find a decent percentage that came from a background not all that different from Pro Boxers and MMA fighters…. Guys that their station in life didn’t present a whole lot of options. They had to fight for anything they ever got and lived a life that you had to be harder than damn wood pecker lips just to survive and thrive. Failure isn’t an option for them….

Jake, I like how you tell prospective seal team wannabes how hard seal training is and what they need to do to get prepared. Yet I heard about Jonny Kim who stated that “everything he did in life was an accident” like becoming a seal, followed by medical school and then becoming an astronaut really blew my mind. He had no one to train however he played water Polo and ran a couple of miles and yet he accomplished a lot by accident. I don’t know but I think it’s all genetics. When do seals get their trident, after Buds or SQT? Keep up the good work!

I feel like these young kids listen to jake but they don't hear him. He supports the kid and others going to seals granted that based on what they tell him is true about their physical abilities and other stuff etc . But he mentions the Ranger route and other Army routes because they have a chance to do the shit they talk about . When i was in the Marines we had so many guys in boot camp with recon contracts all hyped and talking shit just for me to find them in the food service school house with me because they didn't make it where as if you do that in the Army , god forbid you don't pass you'll get dropped to infantry and still be doing something combat related and have another chance to go at it . Shit happens , you get hurt and sometimes just don't make it and its life but reality is you gotta deal with what comes after that .I've seen Marines bitch and hate their life after getting dropped from recon because their mos was non combat, iv'e seen sailors do the same who got dropped from SEALS , iv'e never heard an Army guy bitch about getting dropped to infantry and then going at it again down the road if they want or just making it the first time around because they have more slots open to fill . Keep your options open and really hear what jake is saying .

Aren't the Marines the infantry and boarding corps of the Navy? Their emblem "Department of the Navy United States Marine Corps." Why don't the SEALS operate under the Marines and draw from USMC combat arms vs sailors. USMC boot camp and regiment life would be more relavent? Also, if they fail, they go back to combat arms as better Marines.

@@jakezweig Good plan for him then. Any thoughts on SOF support roles like PJ, CCT, EOD, SARC (or whatever the officer equivalent of these programs if you have a degree)? Are these good alternatives to SEAL or Army Ranger/SF?

@@--4606 I'm not recommending anything but Army if you want Spec ops....air forces numbers are way to low...seals rolling dice kind of ....usmc way to long to get there which leaves you with the army

@@jakezweig Makes most sense to go Army then. I had a buddy who got pneumonia in 1st phase they rolled him 10 months. He said almost everyone else for SIPE and pneumonia got dropped and very few are getting rolled. Maybe 1/5 to 2/5 guys get a roll for a medical issue. SEAL training is becoming a one shot program now.
No more coming back if you DOR or get med / performance dropped. They'll pull the guy below you who can step up and will not get sick, injured, or quit. No more second chances.
