10 years ago, wouldn't this be considered be a master grade with all those features and accessories. Moving Armor Panels, Color Separation, Awesome Articulation, included decal markings.
The standards have shifted over the years, but based on my very limited experience with 1/100 kits, had they not separated the scale into MG and FM, this would've very much been considered an MG back in the olden days

i guess theyre reserving the full part separation and inner frame for the shield (the hollow underside of the long white pieces is an eyesore) and not requiring a central block to combine for the MG. preferably no pegs sticking out of any of the separated bits.
The parts separation is good as it is for me. Some people would like fully combining bits, but what I'd want from an MG Aerial if nothing else is a solid play experience
As someone who paints and modifies, the issues are an easy workaround. However, I'd skip this kit altogether in favor of a future MG. Issues aside, the engineering and aesthetics are phenomenal. Makes me want to see just how further they can push this via RG or MG.

Of course, I did a layer of top coat and those issues are ironed out, but it's just baffling why they chose to omit it here when the previous two releases have things that fixate the weapons in the hands and solid gimmicks.

@@mj2005gundam molding grooves in to the weapons would not have costed them extra and if they really wanted to save cost then they would have gone for hg style hand instead of making the thumbs separate pieces. Which to be honest would have probably been better then what we ended up getting with this.
Sounds like a liberal application of glue after picking a form to pose it in will be nessecary to avoid frustration. Bit of a shame, but there's no denying that the look of the kit is top-notch.

Yeah that action base adapter was also used for the Calamity and Raider and it doesn't work at all. Had to use the stupid fork adapter and even that doesn't fit that well.
The Raider has its own adapter for the backpack, can't say for the Calamity. I do remember something similar in the MG Eclipse and MG Virtue, yet I don't see theirs suffer. I feel like the Aerial's failing is less a fault of the adapter itself, but moreso one of the port
Honestly if they want to do a MG Aerial, I wouldn’t mind seeing just a modified FM Aerial. The only thing they need to fix is the pegs and hardpoints, the gun, give a sturdier connection to hand and weapons, and just fix the ab joint. I might wait for the MG but if I’m that bored or wanting to do a custom, knowing MG is coming…I’ll pick this up and have my fun with it. Hope to see more FM kits as they seem really good
This kit is definitely a mixed bag for me. While it is drop dead gorgeous and blows any WFM kit out of the water when it comes to aesthetics, the stability issues are absolutely disappointing. The peg connecting the two torso joints are extremely lose that just a slight touch would make the whole upper body bend backwards. The feet joints are also quite loose as well, that when trying out foward-reaching poses the Aerial has a chance to fall forward due to the feet bending up on me. I used clear nail polish to fix these, and even then I'm quite scared of playing around with it. Right now I just leave it in your typical Gundam standing pose on my desk, but to be honest it already looks good as it is. For me it's more of a display-rather-than-play piece compared to the HG kits which are way more stable and less headache-inducing. If they ever decide to introduce Full Mechanics kits of the Aerial Rebuild and Calibarn, I hope they redesign the torso structure and manipulator of these kits because the much heavier weaponry of the Aerial Rebuild and Calibarn are going to absolutely obliterate the kits' stability.
I swear, if they make an MG Aerial Rebuild based on this kit without ironing out the issues, I'm gonna be pissed. When the beam blade rifle can't be handled well, I don't want to imagine what the BFG would handle like
For something so hyped up I'm kinda let down here. It's like 95% perfect and then 5% wtf? Will I buy it? Yes. But should I wait 4 years from now for the mg? I'm thinking so. This totally reminds me of the i.b.o full mechanics line... then came the mg barbatos. Undoubtedly the best mg kit ever in my opinion. Being that wfm is the most popular gundam series ever and the highest seĺling kit ever being the hg version of this peticular gundam I would've thought they'd put 150% into this kit. J.s.
It's not the loose grips alone that's the issue, it's the fact that the preceding kits, the Calamity and Raider, have grooves in the handles to help fixate the weapons. Everything except the posing experience with the weapons is enjoyable throughout the recording, and somehow Bandai decided to skimp out on that part

@@mj2005gundam i found a way if u can print the pattern on an a4 white sheet of printing paper and cut them according to the chest and head piece u can make permet score 10 version which will glow under UV light it worked wonders for my HG
@@1996starter The HG can get away with using a film, while the FM crystals are integrated into the design. You'll need more than a sheet of paper to replicate the effect on the FM
The amount of adapters needed are a bit of a turn off for me, with the shield's back panel the worst. The HG can get away with it because of it's size, but for a kit this big and expensive to need a huge piece just for the shield to stay together is disappointing. Just my 2 cents Gives me more hope and reason to wait for an MG, I guess. Thanks for the review!
how is 3800 yen expensive for you? it's barely twice the hg, the newer MG cost more than 6500 yen, it's cheap compared to other kits, other brands and even western figures, kotobukiya, sentinel and flame toys are truly expensive for something with less quality than a hg
@@troloinkto Um, limited budget and a few HGs on it already, so buying a 1/100 on top of it is a big hit to what's on top. Also, store prices differ from the RRP, and kits as hot as the Aerial are often marked up from the RRP. I have my reasons

I understand that money is sometimes a big problem, however if you buy directly from japan is very cheap compared to local resellers, and man, you gotta explore the world if you believe a kit like this is "not worth it" sentinel and kotobukiya kits are way worse and far more expensive than this, bandai is the only company with this level of engineering and quality, even an old hg kit has better build and plastic quality than a sentinel kit

Certainly, an MG of this one will release.. but you will have to wait for what, like 2 years? For me I'd settle for this one first, then if an MG will come out years later then I will grab it then and then...
It feels like there were two different people designing this kit. One guy who went all out on the legs and another one who couldn't even manage to get the basics right when it came to the upper body and failed horribly when it came to the accessories.
The upper body looseness I'm not too fused by. It maintains its pose, and is only a real issue when you hold it by the torso. The weapons on the other hand are the baffling part. Like, why would they rid the precedent of locking mechanisms in the fingers established by the previous two releases? A cleaner look on the handles? Someone at the table got the looks down hard, there's no denying that. At the same time, it's just frustrating to pose
@@mj2005gundam another issue that i have is the elbow bend. while it bends a little bit further than the hg it looks atrocious in comparison when you bend it more then 90 degrees. The the two joints are just to far apart making it look so awkward that i prefer the hgs single bend.
I'm wondering why they didn't just go MG on this one. I would be willing to wait even another year for an MG rather than this FM. FMs to me are just place holders. It's okay for the likes of Calamity, Raider and Forbidden since they are not main MS and most likely won't get an MG.
They gotta milk as much money as possible out of this. I mean, it's their best-selling Gunpla series to date, of course they're gonna stuff G-Witch stuff into every grade imaginable. Watch as this becomes the new Unicorn Gundam
Did you build any of the three kits you just mentioned? Because I've built the Raider, and has been a better build than the average MG hands down. With no stability issues and more detail and gimmicks lol what do you need? An inner frame?
Guess that full mechanic can't defy square-cube laws yet, the details are amazing yet somehow -GW- Bandai didn't improve the Aerial further than an oversized HG
make me wonder why wouldnt they just make this an MG instead doing FM and MG eventually.... i mean MG for main ms and fm for the rest already a thing (especially today FM getting closer to MG than HG), but somehow they r wasting they effort and money trying to scrape as much money as they can and if that failed they shoved us with Pbandai exclusive that literally a killjoy....

If they made it close to the FM Raider, I won't be able to see the point in an MG. Unfortunately, that only applies aesthetically because they decided to skimp out on the most basic stuff when focusing on the aesthetics
There's no need to hate those hands for being what they are alone. After all, the Calamity and Raider have the same style of hands holding onto much heavier weapons. Difference being, they have grooves in the fingers and weapon handles to fix them in place, while the Aerial doesn't
The HG is simpler, and does things in the bare minimum way possible. Surprising, simpler is better, instead of half-assedly trying something more advanced and having the kit suffer for it.
to be honest, after i went on an mg buying spree and started building one of the kits i began to realize that i hate most of my master grades. And they were supposed to be among the better ones in the line.
I still do not look at this kit and think "Feminine". It looks like a giant robot with no gender. Some fans need to learn how to disconnect themselves and their perceptions from the characters. It's like you want it to look feminine because you know the pilot is a girl. However, I never had a clue who the pilot was until after seeing the HG kit, and my own thought never dug around for a way to justify saying it looks female in any way. It's a machine. It doesn't have boobs, or a dick, or anything else.
Look. Bandai themselves have considered some designs feminine or elegant, evident in the HG G-Portent manual. Stuff like the Nadleeh and the Nobell are designed to look feminine without any connection to the character, and to me the Aerial is no different. Perception is subjective, and if you don't think it's feminine, that's fine, but don't go around saying how someone perceives something is wrong because you disagree with the sentiment. Moreover, the Aerial has been canonically referred to as female. I doubt that's much a coincidence to why it's designed to look feminine.
@@mj2005gundam Of course the Nobel looks feminine, it has a skirt and high heels. That means nothing to the Aerial. The Nadleeh is also your own thought. I myself don't have some mental insistence that long hair is automatically feminine. Proportionately the Nadleeh is comparable to the Exia or the Dynames, and one calls them feminine. Guys can have long hair, just so you know for future reference. Again, I think you may have some confusion between machine and pilot there. In that case you should probably still go with androgynous for the Nadleeh, since that's the main thing people remember about the pilot. The only point of design you mention that looks feminine is the the wider hip placement. The Pharact has the same weird hip placement, how come no one is calling that feminine? What about the Graze units? They all have stiletto heels and hips set the same way. Are they feminine looking because of one tiny detail? Just about every new Gundam design since 00 has had a slimmer waist causing the hips to look wider. Suddenly people are calling one particular machine feminine looking over a single design feature that is not unique, and isn't normally called out. As for "canonically referred to": What does that have to do with what it looks like? This is my entire point. I look at the thing and it it not obviously designed to look feminine. You are so stuck in a story that you can't separate your opinion between story and visual design choices. That's my point. That kind of hip design is not new, and is not usually referred to as feminine, but give it a girly pilot and people trip over themselves trying to justify why they see it as female.

Anyways, besides the obvious story stuff for it that refers to Aerial as female, the reason why the Aerial is considered Feminine by a lot of other people besides the Pharact is mostly because of the body build it has. A.k.a. the Hour glass figure, which is usually used for more feminine silhouettes for characters. The other bit for Aerial usually being referred to femininely is from the round shapes and certain other proportions to it. Compared to the rest of the Machines in the series, Aerial did seem to be designed with more "human like" proportions compared to stuff like Pharact, which definitely looks more like a machine. I get if you don't see Aerial feminiely (and will respect that), but there are details to it that have others see it in a feminine light. Be it the machine itself story, or how it is drawn or designed. The story of the machine is just as important as the looks of it. (Not connecting the pilot being female to it, if we were to do that we would be having to bring the Alex in here. XD There are stuff to it that refer to it as female besides just the pilot.) (And if we want to go into a deeper rabbit hole, other robots at times are referred to as sister units/ people refering to ships femininely in the real world even if there is nothing feminine to them. XD)
@@knightx605 I have no issue with what someone sees in their own head when looking at the design. For me it's a combined issue where I have a pet peeve for people who act like their perception is just accepted universal truth, and a hyper annoyance for people who are too wrapped up in a story to disconnect their brains from that. If the review said "I feel the design looks a bit feminine." that would not draw a response. But as I have noticed in other reviews for the HG kit, the people who throw the word feminine out as a universal fact are also the people who very quickly refer to the in universe facts to justify that. It certainly seems that the people most likely to claim that it just is feminine looking are the same people who have engrossed themselves in the story. Just a quick search shows that fans on Reddit have had discussions over whether or not it's supposed to be female. I think that pretty clearly shows that the whole idea of it being obvious in the physical design is just off base. If it was something like the Nobel Gundam there wouldn't be that kind of discussion. I don't see an hourglass figure myself. I see a slimmer waist than an old school Gundam, but as I already mentioned that's a trend for Gundam design in general. Exia has it, Barbatos has it. I'm working on the MG Dynames right now, and there's that slim waist between a wider chest and hip section. In an artistic sense there needs to be more curve and flow for me to see femininity. Aerial has too many angles, or design aspects that are entirely neutral in my eyes. There are rounded pieces, but they don't flow together. You're definitely right about female pilots for other machines. No one calls the Kshatriya feminine, but Marida isn't exactly a girly personality either. This whole WfM series seems filled with extra girly-girls, and a story focused on female bonds like sisterhood and mother-daughter relationships. I truly think that perception is spilling over to how people view the machines.

I was afraid it was just going to be an upscaled version of the HG (which wouldn't be awful, it's a good HG) but glad it's much more

It is certainly disappointing how close this kit is to being perfect, had it had more locking mechanisms and a more solid structure

For something so hyped up I'm kinda let down here. It's like 95% perfect and then 5% wtf? Will I buy it? Yes. But should I wait 4 years from now for the mg? I'm thinking so. This totally reminds me of the i.b.o full mechanics line... then came the mg barbatos. Undoubtedly the best mg kit ever in my opinion. Being that wfm is the most popular gundam series ever and the highest seĺling kit ever being the hg version of this peticular gundam I would've thought they'd put 150% into this kit. J.s.
It's not the loose grips alone that's the issue, it's the fact that the preceding kits, the Calamity and Raider, have grooves in the handles to help fixate the weapons. Everything except the posing experience with the weapons is enjoyable throughout the recording, and somehow Bandai decided to skimp out on that part
with how long it takes to design kits + the production of molds, this kit was probably already far in to production when the hg started selling.

The Permet crystals don't glow under UV unfortunately. I've thought of making them do so, but I didn't want to ruin the chrome
@@mj2005gundam i found a way if u can print the pattern on an a4 white sheet of printing paper and cut them according to the chest and head piece u can make permet score 10 version which will glow under UV light it worked wonders for my HG
@@1996starter The HG can get away with using a film, while the FM crystals are integrated into the design. You'll need more than a sheet of paper to replicate the effect on the FM

The amount of adapters needed are a bit of a turn off for me, with the shield's back panel the worst. The HG can get away with it because of it's size, but for a kit this big and expensive to need a huge piece just for the shield to stay together is disappointing. Just my 2 cents

how is 3800 yen expensive for you? it's barely twice the hg, the newer MG cost more than 6500 yen,
it's cheap compared to other kits, other brands and even western figures,
kotobukiya, sentinel and flame toys are truly expensive for something with less quality than a hg
@@troloinkto Um, limited budget and a few HGs on it already, so buying a 1/100 on top of it is a big hit to what's on top. Also, store prices differ from the RRP, and kits as hot as the Aerial are often marked up from the RRP. I have my reasons

I understand that money is sometimes a big problem, however if you buy directly from japan is very cheap compared to local resellers,
and man, you gotta explore the world if you believe a kit like this is "not worth it"
sentinel and kotobukiya kits are way worse and far more expensive than this, bandai is the only company with this level of engineering and quality,
even an old hg kit has better build and plastic quality than a sentinel kit

Thicken the loose joints and the issues will be less of a bother. A layer of top coat seemed to have done the trick

Aesthetics are tuned to 11, while gimmicks and accessories just make do with what works. It's honestly such a shame

It feels like there were two different people designing this kit. One guy who went all out on the legs and another one who couldn't even manage to get the basics right when it came to the upper body and failed horribly when it came to the accessories.
The upper body looseness I'm not too fused by. It maintains its pose, and is only a real issue when you hold it by the torso. The weapons on the other hand are the baffling part. Like, why would they rid the precedent of locking mechanisms in the fingers established by the previous two releases? A cleaner look on the handles? Someone at the table got the looks down hard, there's no denying that. At the same time, it's just frustrating to pose
@@mj2005gundam another issue that i have is the elbow bend. while it bends a little bit further than the hg it looks atrocious in comparison when you bend it more then 90 degrees. The the two joints are just to far apart making it look so awkward that i prefer the hgs single bend.
I'm wondering why they didn't just go MG on this one. I would be willing to wait even another year for an MG rather than this FM. FMs to me are just place holders. It's okay for the likes of Calamity, Raider and Forbidden since they are not main MS and most likely won't get an MG.
They gotta milk as much money as possible out of this. I mean, it's their best-selling Gunpla series to date, of course they're gonna stuff G-Witch stuff into every grade imaginable. Watch as this becomes the new Unicorn Gundam
Did you build any of the three kits you just mentioned? Because I've built the Raider, and has been a better build than the average MG hands down. With no stability issues and more detail and gimmicks lol what do you need? An inner frame?

Guess that full mechanic can't defy square-cube laws yet, the details are amazing yet somehow -GW- Bandai didn't improve the Aerial further than an oversized HG
They improved the looks and put their sole focus on that it seems. The hands remind me of the very reason I wanted to avoid MGs back in the day

After my experience, I'd stick to the HG too, despite the superior looks of the FM
make me wonder why wouldnt they just make this an MG instead doing FM and MG eventually.... i mean MG for main ms and fm for the rest already a thing (especially today FM getting closer to MG than HG), but somehow they r wasting they effort and money trying to scrape as much money as they can and if that failed they shoved us with Pbandai exclusive that literally a killjoy....

i really don't see the point of this honestly... we all know there's going to be an MG thats much better... maybe even an MGEX.. if this was loaded with accessories then i could see it but..
If they made it close to the FM Raider, I won't be able to see the point in an MG. Unfortunately, that only applies aesthetically because they decided to skimp out on the most basic stuff when focusing on the aesthetics
I hate that style of hand to the bottom of my heart, unstable for holding weapons and the open fingers option is too relaxed
There's no need to hate those hands for being what they are alone. After all, the Calamity and Raider have the same style of hands holding onto much heavier weapons. Difference being, they have grooves in the fingers and weapon handles to fix them in place, while the Aerial doesn't

The HG is simpler, and does things in the bare minimum way possible. Surprising, simpler is better, instead of half-assedly trying something more advanced and having the kit suffer for it.
to be honest, after i went on an mg buying spree and started building one of the kits i began to realize that i hate most of my master grades. And they were supposed to be among the better ones in the line.
I still do not look at this kit and think "Feminine". It looks like a giant robot with no gender. Some fans need to learn how to disconnect themselves and their perceptions from the characters. It's like you want it to look feminine because you know the pilot is a girl. However, I never had a clue who the pilot was until after seeing the HG kit, and my own thought never dug around for a way to justify saying it looks female in any way. It's a machine. It doesn't have boobs, or a dick, or anything else.
Look. Bandai themselves have considered some designs feminine or elegant, evident in the HG G-Portent manual. Stuff like the Nadleeh and the Nobell are designed to look feminine without any connection to the character, and to me the Aerial is no different. Perception is subjective, and if you don't think it's feminine, that's fine, but don't go around saying how someone perceives something is wrong because you disagree with the sentiment.
Moreover, the Aerial has been canonically referred to as female. I doubt that's much a coincidence to why it's designed to look feminine.
@@mj2005gundam Of course the Nobel looks feminine, it has a skirt and high heels. That means nothing to the Aerial. The Nadleeh is also your own thought. I myself don't have some mental insistence that long hair is automatically feminine. Proportionately the Nadleeh is comparable to the Exia or the Dynames, and one calls them feminine. Guys can have long hair, just so you know for future reference. Again, I think you may have some confusion between machine and pilot there. In that case you should probably still go with androgynous for the Nadleeh, since that's the main thing people remember about the pilot.
The only point of design you mention that looks feminine is the the wider hip placement. The Pharact has the same weird hip placement, how come no one is calling that feminine? What about the Graze units? They all have stiletto heels and hips set the same way. Are they feminine looking because of one tiny detail? Just about every new Gundam design since 00 has had a slimmer waist causing the hips to look wider. Suddenly people are calling one particular machine feminine looking over a single design feature that is not unique, and isn't normally called out.
As for "canonically referred to": What does that have to do with what it looks like? This is my entire point. I look at the thing and it it not obviously designed to look feminine. You are so stuck in a story that you can't separate your opinion between story and visual design choices. That's my point. That kind of hip design is not new, and is not usually referred to as feminine, but give it a girly pilot and people trip over themselves trying to justify why they see it as female.
@@simpleanswer8954 Technically guys wear skirts and that as well, but that is besides the point. Anyways, besides the obvious story stuff for it that refers to Aerial as female, the reason why the Aerial is considered Feminine by a lot of other people besides the Pharact is mostly because of the body build it has. A.k.a. the Hour glass figure, which is usually used for more feminine silhouettes for characters. The other bit for Aerial usually being referred to femininely is from the round shapes and certain other proportions to it. Compared to the rest of the Machines in the series, Aerial did seem to be designed with more "human like" proportions compared to stuff like Pharact, which definitely looks more like a machine.
I get if you don't see Aerial feminiely (and will respect that), but there are details to it that have others see it in a feminine light. Be it the machine itself story, or how it is drawn or designed. The story of the machine is just as important as the looks of it. (Not connecting the pilot being female to it, if we were to do that we would be having to bring the Alex in here. XD There are stuff to it that refer to it as female besides just the pilot.)
(And if we want to go into a deeper rabbit hole, other robots at times are referred to as sister units/ people refering to ships femininely in the real world even if there is nothing feminine to them. XD)
@@knightx605 I have no issue with what someone sees in their own head when looking at the design. For me it's a combined issue where I have a pet peeve for people who act like their perception is just accepted universal truth, and a hyper annoyance for people who are too wrapped up in a story to disconnect their brains from that.
If the review said "I feel the design looks a bit feminine." that would not draw a response. But as I have noticed in other reviews for the HG kit, the people who throw the word feminine out as a universal fact are also the people who very quickly refer to the in universe facts to justify that. It certainly seems that the people most likely to claim that it just is feminine looking are the same people who have engrossed themselves in the story. Just a quick search shows that fans on Reddit have had discussions over whether or not it's supposed to be female. I think that pretty clearly shows that the whole idea of it being obvious in the physical design is just off base. If it was something like the Nobel Gundam there wouldn't be that kind of discussion.
I don't see an hourglass figure myself. I see a slimmer waist than an old school Gundam, but as I already mentioned that's a trend for Gundam design in general. Exia has it, Barbatos has it. I'm working on the MG Dynames right now, and there's that slim waist between a wider chest and hip section. In an artistic sense there needs to be more curve and flow for me to see femininity. Aerial has too many angles, or design aspects that are entirely neutral in my eyes. There are rounded pieces, but they don't flow together.
You're definitely right about female pilots for other machines. No one calls the Kshatriya feminine, but Marida isn't exactly a girly personality either. This whole WfM series seems filled with extra girly-girls, and a story focused on female bonds like sisterhood and mother-daughter relationships. I truly think that perception is spilling over to how people view the machines.
I have always called my cars girls and and I know many pilots refer to their planes as girls
