  • Long before I opened this channel, I held the so-called "White paw" site on the internet (titled by the name of the last wolf I managed to release into the wild). Soon after I placed my first video clips on You-tube most of them on wildlife and wolves especially. My own experience filmed through many years. There were no high quality video clips because in the time when those shots were taken no consumer cameras with bigger quality were available. But the clips were made and edited in great love and passion. Then I got my first friends ... never seen them and some have disappeared forever. But a few as it seems will remain mine forever. Then the same way I met a man from far away across the ocean ... the other side of the globe who was delighted with my attitude and aspirations to nature and wildlife. Harmony with nature is a way of life...today almost vanished. This is what connected us. North American indigenous resident ...he was a proud descendant of America's first nations. Once he asked me and suggested to copy my video clip and publish it with his own choice of background music:
"Buffalo Moon" from the album: "We the People", released 1996 by Brulé Airo, a group of Native American musicians led by Paul LaRoche.
Upravo to nas je povezivalo. Bio je ponosni potomak prvih nacija Amerike. Predložio mi je da pod kopiju mog video klipa podloži svoj izbor glazbene podloge.
Ovo je taj stari video. (PB)

I think that this is the most beautiful video I have ever watched on youtube. So touching, so deep. Unfortunately the Japanese wolf is extinct as wolves were killed under the Meiji Restoration.

Although here are more than 130 uploads among which most are about my own experience on wolves, it is simply not enough to describe all what remained in my memories. You can not even imagine the adventures that were happening when my camera wasn't filming. A big part of this real life story, that I luckily managed to save by writing notes an often taking stills-photos, will hopefully turn into a short book some day in the future. Still, there is quite a lot of videos to be added on the list already published on this channel.

    Hi Pavle,
This is a shocking video, the time that has elapsed from having filmed this video speaks of the long way you have walked, many days of hiking in the mountains,
may nights camping in the forest of Velevit, listening to night sounds, the wind between the branches of trees , the singing of crickets, owls, howling wolves ...
and a close contact with nature, you say well: 'Harmony with nature is a way of life', communion with natural life is only possible when we do our temple in nature,
and we venerate it as something sacred, with admiration, love and respect. As in this video we can see the respect and friendship between wolves and you.
The music of your friend Brulé Airo, 'buffalo moon' is perfect for these images in the wild world, living outdoors in harmony with Nature. I can understand the
connection between the native american people and you. Thank you my friend,
    Best regards from México.

All that clearly proves that the life of human beings today is not well organized at all. What can we expect to be with us in the future if we made this big distance from nature. Each day bigger. Fish without water ... that can't last long. I am noticing not nice changes on people I used to know from long ago ... especially those who let me say so, are not much interested in anything nature or natural, especially not wilderness.

I adore wolves Pavle and I love this video you put together which shows years of dedication, passion and love for these beautiful animals ♥ The other wildlife was a treat as well, everything about this magical little piece of heaven on earth took my breath away. I started photography 30 years ago so I'm with you on how there wasn't all the luxury we have now to have captured what we could have then. I'm in awe of your love for nature, I got goosebumps seeing all the photos of you in the wild and with the wolves. It's not every day one comes across another soul whose love for wildlife and nature is as grand as yours. I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to get that close to a wild wolf and bond with it over the years. Thank you for this incredibly story on your life.

Exactly, it's not every day one comes across another soul who understands.
The world changed, people do not care enough about the future of this small blue planet. I used to visit my mountains much more often before... today , although I desperately need them I do not have the chances as before. Besides , there is always a kind of fear what will be the next shock I will find there. Less and less signs of wildlife I notice ... human activities of all kinds pushed animals to hide in the last remains of the wild areas. No one cares no matter how much we all inform people. That hurts and it makes me sad and tired ...

@@PavleBalenovic I can empathize with your words and feelings Pavle. It breaks my heart how much more importance is placed upon materialism, ego and everything for profit. Mother nature is hard enough on the wildlife and knowing what humans have done to make their lives even more difficult it just breaks my heart into pieces. Human activities have eliminated animals natural homes and habitat, there is urban wildlife now which to my knowledge things like this didn't exist when I was born. Activism is great, but not enough. I seen so many photos on social media of how rodent poisoning is killing our wildlife (i'm friends with people who work in wildlife rehab) and everyone 'shares' the post for an hour, it does nothing. I made posters about this asking people to print them, put them up, any animal that eats a poisoned mouse or rat will die a horrible death, but no one cared or did anything. I personally have had to leave the most beautiful forests and wildlife right before my eyes due to the sheer disrespect towards wildlife and people wanting that almighty photo at any cost. I left crying and swearing. I'm sorry you don't have the chances to visit those beautiful mountains these days & even if you could 'the next shock' of what you could find could devastate you. I hear you. I'm sad too.

      @PavleBalenovic  Před 4 lety +1

@@TheeOwlQueen I must admit that in fact I wasn't much fond of people, crowds ... and the so called intellect that leads them especially masses ... so I often look lonely to others. Perhaps that is why I felt myself well among animals. I believe this is the right place for all of us. What do we think we are. Just another sort of animals. I would also like to say that in fact I do not trust people, perhaps even at all ... better to say I expect them to be a kind of fake sort. People proved that to me far to often.
So just because you mentioned that "activism" that is great but not enough. Long ago I realized it is mostly fake too. Actions taken are always too late. Often their project last forever without any success not to mention good for nature and wildlife. Meanwhile money travels, comes and goes like water in river.
I started my own "project" not waiting any second ... seen the announcement in newspapers that wolf cubs are on sale ... few thoughts about their possible destiny were enough for me to decide and travel to by at least one and if nothing to release it the very next day to where it belongs. The rest is in my uploads on this network. Network that is fond of those who attract more viewers no matter how and what with. Hunters and all what comes with them seem to be almost privileged because it is easy for them to gain traffic. Just check the view counter and commercials on their channels. Well supported from all over around perhaps because money makes money. This is how the world functions today.
But there exists another world that is not easy to discover ...
I believe that I touched it at least and that makes me extremely happy.
Nothing more I need and nothing is more important.
I tried to share my thought and experience to those who are able to accept and understand although it wasn't always easy. I experienced even a kind of troubles caused for such like I am. There are enemies, too. I am sorry but obviously far to much people won't be ever able to live in harmony with nature. This is the only way to survive. Bad thing is that we will all pay for the damage that only a minority has caused ... the damage done to this small blue planet ... our only home.

Even though I couldn't speak owl and she couldn't speak human, I felt more love and understanding from a wild animal and learned more from a wild animal, then I ever have or will from a human being. I do NOT like the fact that wild animals are 'for sale' and people buy them or even kidnap them for 'pets'. it is disgusting. I have visited many raptor rehab places and have heard the truth:( Unfortunately money is everything and the new God & when it comes to mother nature to the masses it never really mattered :( I am with you about the only way to live is in harmony with nature. If there were no more computers or cell phones the entire world would go mad, that isn't something to go 'mad' over. The destruction of wildlife is. There is so much ignorance, greed & the majority of people just don't care. There was this video going around about this husband and wife who build their home on the water. off the grid somewhere West Coast of Canada. The had to access their little floating island home via boat, They live in nature, no electricity, have greenhouses and everything they need and they are so happy. Ever since I was little I dreamed of living in nature away from humanity. This other world that exists that isn't easy to discover, I am so happy that you were able to be in it, touch it & experience something so deeply profound and soul altering any and all words are inadequate in describing it.

I believe that nature must be beautiful where ever it still exists especially if saved or protected. Enormous changes are happening at the moment all over the world so here too, in my own country. Most of the shots on my channel are taken in the past and on the areas where there were not people ... remains of wilderness. Croatia used to be quite well known tourist destination since long ago but after joining the EU it became even overcrowded with huge traffic especially during summer where a lot of vehicles are on the road and highways going towards the Adriatic coast. This is just one but important reason why we are quickly losing wildlife day by day. Mountains are just partially interesting for visitors and are not as friendly because of long and harsh, snowy winters. Velebit mountains especially as they are a barrier that strongly effects the climate in whole the area. I know them very well. Even today such the shots that I managed to film long ago are impossible to be taken. Those times are gone forever. I used my horse discovering the mountains few times until I decided to continue only hiking and in the company of wolves. Land Rover, ... I must say that without it a lot of efforts wouldn't be successful nor possible at all. I am glad to hear you own one and I believe you'll never get rid of her. That vehicle can really mean a lot to the owner because it simply changes the way of living into something interesting and worthy. Hope you agree.
To travel driving such the truck would be great adventure and would remain in your memory whole the life long, I'm sure but to gain the real experience ... that would need years and years of walking with backpack through the wild. My wife enjoyed both, driving and hiking with me and as much as she could, but mostly I visited those mountains on my own and alone.
Take a time and check the rest of my uploads.
      You are always welcome, Antonio.

As I said, each day I see changes that won't come out on any good for the nature and wildlife. This is what worries me because like you I care much about animals. This is the way I used to live. It is nice to hear about your efforts in production of organic healthy food. I knew some people here who decided to do the same. In not so far past it has been the only way of producing food. Can you imagine that?
Step by step the government simply destroyed small traditional farms to open the way for huge corporation to grab most of the land or others to import foreign food and all the rest while domestic is almost dead. This is why EU pulled us to join into that community. The life here isn't any better than it has been before. The quality of our food is all under the question, mostly toxic and it is proved that it is lower quality then the same offered to Germany for example , where from it comes. In the sam time our farmers can't sell nor agricultural products nor meat from cattle they breed. Something bad is going to happen because people are not satisfied at all especially these days when a lot of refugees are waiting in crowds on our borders near Plitvice Lakes National Park to cross the country on their way to EU. Many will surely stay here. All in the time when hundreds of thousands of young people migrated abroad (Ireland) searching for the job to find. It all looks like a kind of extremely evil political plan. Nothing can be done and the worst thing is that we do not know what is going to be in the future. In the same time it looks that no one cares about nature and wildlife as the most important thing is money ... for our politicians and those whom they are listening and who give them orders. Overall corruption is the way of living so that human rights are in danger since long ago now. Not nice description but it is the truth.
You surprised me with your invitation and if I'll ever be able to travel I'll contact you. It is very kind from you and thank you. Keep in touch.

    Hi again Pavle,
It was great to watch this heart-lifting video compilation you skillfully put together.
Your genuine love for the wolf in particular, but also all of Gods creatures is instantly apparent and a great credit to you for respecting the first Indians and all Indigenous peoples, sadly vanishing from our planets at an alarming rate.
The music you were asked to add is just perfect too and helps with the imagination to place myself there.
I thoroughly enjoy your work my friend. There is one thing I have been wondering and that is: Have you yourself ever been followed by a pack of wolves?
Thank you again for all of your wonderful videos. ◕‿◕

Long ago, after The Wolf Man documentary has been shown worldwide thanks to to the BBC, I received a decent numbers of response by viewers. Many contacts lasted for years but one turned to special. John D.Wells from Wales Cumbria became and remained respected friend to me. He was well experienced in dogs ... German Shepherds particularly. Shortly, I invited him to join me to the trip to my mountains. We spent few weeks there with a lot of hiking ... visited some areas where from the pack I released long before started their own life in freedom. Although we tried hard but not much wildlife we have seen until just the last few days of his visit we encountered wolves ... sure those were of mine. John was shocked as well as me ... that proved that all those days we have been monitored by them all the time so they decided to show up in front of our eyes. We were resting on the way back from the long climbing trip ... siting in the forest before sunset, talking and decided to hurry up because of the dark while then we noticed near us in the lower meadow a pair of wolves that were laying still there for who knows how long ... they stood up and stretched his legs to continue following us. The same evening when we reached the truck and continued driving south ... although quite tired I noticed something like wolf that crossed the road ... I stopped and went to check the bushes pointing the torch to get the reflection of eyes back ... that way I used to check if my wolves are around ... but that time I haven't seen anything.
John remained sitting inside and when we continued driving another wolf just crossed the road under the lights of Land Rover.
It was the best reward to my friend John for all those hard hiking trips and his visit to those magnificent mountains.
You can imagine how often I found myself followed by them when ever I was alone. As I returned Lik home all the time till his death I used to take him back to roam over those mountains. But then I started to avoid any contact with wolves not to make them follow any human person including me ... they could change me and come in front of hunters what would become the worse possible trouble for their security. But I was aware that I was followed ... so I decided not to visit most of those areas ever again. Many years passed ... and as I believe next year I will go with my younger son just to show him where I released the pack back in 1992.
There exists another round of uploads waiting to be completed ... especially on my experience with wolves ...the old footage all in the original quality and format that isn't as brilliant as modern quality today but the story it all tells and details will be surely something you will like. Hope I will manage to post it on this channel despite not quite clear status of creators on this network.
Thank you for your kind words and support.

I know only too well that you have to have patience and to use all you have learned yourself from your wolves, in order to maximise the chances of actually seeing any in the vast areas of wilderness they travel in.

@@WildlifeBirdsUK Just because you mentioned ... those lessons I've learned from them, helped me to approach any other wildlife much more easily. I noticed that when I continued roaming the wilderness myself alone.
I used to stay overnights much more often and darkness didn't limit me by no means. I had nothing to be afraid of ... wolves were mine. Each evening while it is still enough light for the camera was successful ... sure depending on season, the problem was return to where the tent is or sleeping bag only as in most cases because of darkness, imagine fog or storm.
Although it was hard to wake up early, when it is still dark I have seen most of the wildlife just in that time if there was not much wind. All the wildlife started to be of my interest ... wolves were what I knew already well. They organized their own lives, families. Dora, the youngest, she left me know where her kids were. I have only to keep that secret as she trusted me as her mother Lacha. Brown bears do not cover huge areas like wolves so I met them much more often than ever expected ... and I might say those encounters were mostly friendly. Sometimes, rarely I showed some to friends and managed to film even nine in one day (including cubs). That's how a friend of mine concluded after joining me once for a short trip. There are nice remote places that I like a lot. Secret and I believe it will remain so. To stay there calm, in silence of the real wilderness ... until the sound of the mountain wind warns me that weather might be changing ... that is amazing, another world, indeed. Hope, soon I'll be up there although it is all covered in snow already. I do not know exactly when to travel but it always comes to me, like a call ... the feeling that I respected from beginnings. It is the time for me to visit that grave where I buried my wolf ... in January 1998. I remember well the deep snow high in the mountains.
      Thanks Jane.

I can imagine the sheer joy it brings you when you encounter one of your wolves and yes, it is great that you keep it as much of a secret as you can and it is absolutely obvious you care so deeply for them.
Although they are wild animals, i know how they can be an important part of your family and losing one is like losing a child.
You mention going out into the wilds in the dark, OMG that would scare me! Not the wildlife, as that would thrill me, but trying to locate the tent! Especially if you headed off following something. You are probably much better at re-tracing your pathway or route than I am, as I have got lost a couple of times, alone on open moorland, for instance.
I think stumbling on any bears would fill me with a nervous excitement, as would the wolves, more so if they were trailing me!
I am looking forward to a trip out once it snows and if it actually sticks here, although it does hide things like holes in the ground and dangerous dips that you could fall into or over.
Thanks again for posting you fabulous videos Pavle ◕‿◕

@@WildlifeBirdsUK Perhaps it is smarter to go into the wild in pair. For me to go alone it was the only solution because when Lik reached the age of two no one wanted to join us. He looked far too serious with no mimics on his face and with the behavior that rare could understand. Those experienced with dogs would misunderstand him easily and often. All those years after as it turned out that wolf became my only companion. We used to be active mostly by nights why warm days especially during summers were reserved for resting like among many wild creatures around. I remember those fears I used to take with me when I started ...
darkness first, sleeping under the stars, strange noises, steps on dry leaves... but the first time I got exhausted after whole day carrying my backpack with 4 liter water and all the equipment needed, the first moment I set to rest for awhile I felt asleep ... few seconds later it was morning when I realized the night is over. But nights van be more than only darkness. There were blizzards that make your night lasting like years, almost panic ...what if wind doesn't stop? And it didn't ... lasted almost a week. Waiting to avoid panic is the key to survive. Each day in the wild is new experience ... I am aware that I am still learning no matter how old I am and how much I know. Discovering unknown ... this is what pulls us on. Isn't that so? When ever there is an obstacle in front of me I try to see what is behind it ... is there any sense to jump it over or to search for another way on. This is how wolf thinks. For him there is always another way unless the risk is far too big.

Oh, Pavle, this have to be one of your finest videos with the overwhelming and sympathetic editing of the wolves and other wildlife, but most especially, the wolves. This is a rare insight into the private world of you and the time shared and spent with a released pack of wolves.
It is certainly easy to see how such a video would have appealed to an indigenous man, who shares a mutual understanding, respect and love for of all of this world's creatures. The editing is just superb and the native music all adds greatly to a vanishing world that we can all only feel sad about and long for.

In a way, I wasn't quite sure what your comment will be like. Many years ago this video was deleted when I closed my previous channel. The background music ... a friend, the one who accepted and understood my efforts suggested it ...I hardly decided to do that just because I respect American first nations far too much and wouldn't like to use not even a bit of their glory if I can say so. Many people all over the world respect them and all their culture very much ...because of the way they used to live ... in harmony with nature. Wolf, for them, that creature was one of the most appreciated symbols.
As you said ... a vanishing world that we can all only feel sad about and long for. (ywm)

Although I am still visiting those mountains, always avoiding those wolf habitats ... it has happened that I am spending more time with people now ... with my own kind. What wolves left inside of my brain is something that is hard to explain. I know that I do not think about the priorities of living like other people, in fact quite differently in many ways, but I often wonder if the creature I've spent so many years with, is really the wolf. The beast. The animal that is so far away from people. In the past we used to live in harmony with nature and wolf was treated as he proudly deserved.
