Imagine this - Batman in a futuristic dystopian world like in Blade Runner. Batman and cyberpunk, that’s awesome right, wouldn’t it be great to have a movie like that?
Well, this is something we got, over 20 years ago, in the beloved Batman Beyond animated show.
As excited I am for all the Batman we are getting this year, I got to ask, how about a Batman Beyond movie?
In anticipation of The Batman, a fresh take that is shaping up as something truly special, I want to present to you a completely drastic and new take on Batman. That’s what Batman Beyond was 20 years ago, and now, Now! Is the time to finally bring Batman Beyond to the big screen.
So consider this video as my pitch for a Batman Beyond movie - for you and Warner Brothers, in case some executive is watching.
I have the perfect idea for a Batman Beyond movie, and actually, I might have even figured out the sequel as well.
Ok, let’s first briefly talk about the Batman Beyond animated show, and why it’s so special.
Batman Beyond first aired in 1999, and it served as a direct continuation to the amazing Batman animated series. We are introduced to a much older Batman, now having to rely on a futuristic Iron Man-like suit.
But the dark tone takes any glamor or of it, for good reason. Batman is old and tired, and alone. All of his allies are either retired or killed. And decades after becoming Batman, he was still fighting crime, as if all of those years amounted to nothing. Gotham is the same crime-infested cesspool it always has been.
Batman hits rock bottom, having a heart attack, forced to use a gun to save his own life, almost taking another’s in the process.
Bruce almost crossed the line, so Batman must end.
It's a depressing way to start a kid’s show. But that’s the magic of these 90’s Batman shows, they were so much more than cartoons. These were sophisticated, challenging children and adults alike, with complex and nuanced stories. And Batman Beyond was at times darker than its predecessor, exploring Batman with cyberpunk themes.
20 years later, the year is 2039 and Gotham became a dystopian cyberpunk city. Bruce Wayne is in his 70’s, living like a grumpy old hermit. It’s the tragedy of being Batman.
We are introduced to Terry McGinnis, a rebellious teen who’s seeking vengeance for his father’s murder.
After Terry discovers that Bruce is Batman, he steals the suit. While reluctant at first, Bruce understands that Gotham needs its hero, and thus the torch is passed, and Terry becomes the new Batman, with Bruce being his mentor.
Batman Beyond is a story about legacy. The idea that the Batman mental is everlasting, and it cannot die with one man. But it’s also a coming-of-age story.
But I'm deliberately not diving too much into the show, because I want to focus on the movie version. But suffice it to say that Batman Beyond is amazing. And If you are looking for a good Batman story right now, trust me, watch Batman Beyond, you will not be disappointed.
Now the question is - why do a Batman Beyond movie? Sure, the cyberpunk setting is cool, and the show is very beloved by fans. But the real magic here is the story. All the Batman movies so far have been about Bruce Wayne. As they should have been, ‘cause Bruce is The Batman.
But in 2022 we are getting 3 different versions of Bruce Wayne. I’m very excited for The Batman, it looks amazing and fresh. I also love that Michael Keaton is coming back in The Flash. And it’s great that Ben Affleck is getting another chance, because, despite everything, he was a really great Batman.
All of that being said, I think that in between all of these Batmen, it’s going to be nice to see something drastically different, like Batman in a futuristic setting. Batman Beyond offers a story that has been rarely explored.
#Batman #BatmanBeyond - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Who is the best Batman?
Kevin Conroy
Old Bruce Wayne from Batman Beyond animation for sure. He must have some great off screen scenes to explore!
Yea so since you said all this in a video, that means WB won’t make it….
I never understood how his mouth moves in that bat cowl it’s like symbiote
I TRULY ENJOYED Jared Leto's jOKER HE GOT HIM 100% CORRECT
This was literally my favorite show growing up I really hope they adapt it for real
Its the perfect time for a reboot/sequel of the TV show with Terry going to college
Same!
This is my favorite take on Batman, I hope DC never Adapts it. They would Ruin it
@@timyuusis3372 Lol, coming to The CW! 2039!
Same here I remember watching it every weekend as a kid this was my favorite Batman show at the time and still is today. If they ever make a live action version it would definitely make dc stand out from marvel.
I second Dafoe being old Joker. And I nominate Danny Devito to reprise his role as an older Penguin (though perhaps with less prosthetics this time).
I still remember when Batman: Beyond came out; many were outraged as many wanted more from the Animated Series. After binge watching Beyond; its time to give Batman some new life with this Beyond Trilogy.
I’ve been wanting a Batman Beyond movie for what seems like forever. My casting for the film would have Keaton be the old Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker and Lori Petty as Harley Quinn. I could never decide on who would play Terry, but think a relative unknown would work best. As for the story I think Powers would be a good villain for the first film. I think a good reason for Batman giving up the mantle would be he killed Joker. So the beginning would be them facing off and Bruce killing him. Maybe Harley survives and uses Powers to get back at Batman.
Hamill's a great voice I just cant see him playing the character. But maybe because it's the future, Hamil could pull it off as an older Joker.
Troy baker did a great job in the origins game but nothing compares to mark, and I doubt these things will happen DC is a mess especially under WB. We can see that in the present day movies and comics...but who knows one day perhaps a miracle happens.
@@IAmMightyMike Put him on a treadmill and put some prosthetics on his face like the Farrel did for the Penguin and anything is possible. I would love to see Mark actually be the joker live.
Kevin Conroy as old Bruce Wayne
My dream movie would be a live action Batman Beyond with a unique spin on The Joker Returns, with Kevin Conroy as an old Bruce Wayne and William Dafoe as the Joker!!
I was late to the animated Batman and Batman Beyond game: I watched them last year on HBO+. I agreed with every point you made. One detail: I think Terry had a little bit of a head start on the agile Batman Beyond fighting style because he was on his high school’s gymnastics team, right? So he wouldn’t be totally incompetent/reliant on the suit. Also I’m unsure if Dick Grayson’s death as Nightwing is canon; wonder if he could be worked in somehow also.
Naw he trained terry in the comics
I think it was wrestling. Pretty sure he had a singlet and headgear on.
It's not totally canon to the show, but in the comics Dick has a daughter and she becomes Batgirl Beyond!! If you want a good read that feels like a spiritual successor to the '99 tv show, check out Batman Beyond Rebirth!
Both Alan Burnett and Paul Dini have confirmed that they were pretty far along with the live action script when the project was shelved. So there is an almost completed live action Batman Beyond movie script lying around somewhere at WB.
Also, George Clooney would be great as Derek Powers, who took over Wayne Enterprises and murdered Terry's father.
George Clooney played Batman though so that would just be weird
@@sxnsry It sounds almost metaphorical.
Josh Brolin is an epic choice for old Bruce. Plus we all wanna see Defoe as the Joker, don't we?
Ryan Arey You’re so right. It’s time. Two perfect plots. I thought a long time ago about a Batman Beyond movie and then I was too afraid my memory of the wonderful anime would be spoiled by an imperfect movie but… let’s be brave and ask for it!!
If a good director can make this a trilogy, there's no doubt it would compete with marvel
I always loved the costume design, especially cool in which it covers the whole face for extra hidden identity
I’ve often pictured Michael Keaton in that role. He would rock it!
While Batman Beyond is great, I really wanna see a live action Under the Red Hood. Then follow it up by a Bat Family movie.
EDIT: I'm tired of seeing a young or old Batman always portrayed on the big screen, (same goes with Superman, either he's a dad or he's evil) what we need is a Batman in his prime. Complete with his Robins. Give us Batman and Superman from the comics.
Yeah, that adaptation of red hood in Titans is just garbage
We had that with Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.... We need something new. Time to move on to Batman Beyond. If we're going to keep doing Bruce Wayne/Batman, at least move on from Dick Grayson. Bring in Jason Todd and Night Wing.
I would debate that "Batman beyond return of the joker" is the definitive movie for the show and that it even adapts the Red Hood plot into its narrative with its own twist.
I know you love the X-Men Animated Series theme, but for me the Batman Beyond theme is my favorite superhero theme song. Furthermore, BB is my second favorite superhero animated show right behind Justice League Unlimited. Terry McGinnis is a great character with a new and different approach to being the Batman. He has a family, he's trying to do the right thing but still making mistakes, but unlike a Year One Batman he is not alone. He's not a sidekick either, so he's flying without a net (back up), but he's not flying solo either. Bruce is there to guide him, but Bruce also has a tendency to keep things from him. Bruce has scars too that have formed since he domed the cowl all those years ago. I would love a BB movie, and yes I am biased because I love the original BB series so much.
It's nice you go off the script and talk about other cool stuff.
I dont have the time to think about this stuff, it's so awesome I can tune in to your channel and get insight into cool imaginative stuff THAT WORKS. It's like watching a movie review of a movie not even made yet that I couldn't see in theaters.
You’re killing it with the updates!!! 👌🏾👌🏾
What batman would you like to see onscreen?
@6:30 this actually gave me goosebumps. You just gave me something a never knew I wanted
Maaannnn I’ve been waiting for this video !!!!
I love this!!!! ❤️ I love you for making this!!!!! LOL thanks for this tho, bat man beyond was my favorite as a kid.
This... This pitch is actually so smart. I can actually imagine the movie. The themes all work so well together. Ignoring the lore of the tv show, I always found it weird why Terry ended up as Batman instead of any of the past Robins. But by placing him right after Jason, it makes perfect sense. And Jason's death is already such big thing that I could totally imagine that being the catalyst for Bruce retiring. Ugh, it's so smart. Kudos to you!
As an aside, I would like for Terry's batsuit to be less Iron Man, and more nanotech weave. It'll keep his silhouette simple and sleek, it'll be more similar to his animated look than an armored suit, and it'll emphasize his more acrobatic fighting style and leaner physique compared to an older Bruce.
Terry is actually Bruce Son.
And Bruce was probably smart enough to figure it out pretty quickly.
So, it‘s more than just coincidence that Terry becomes the new Batman.
The reason Terry became Batman was becasue it's not very creative to make a Robin thr actual future Batman. Also, they were told to create a teen Batman, and the only to make that work would be for Bruce to not be able to be Batman... so they agrd him up... and by aging him up, they aged up all the Robins..
There's also story reasons: Dick was done working closely with Bruce and would NEVER want to become Batman full time, especially in the DCAU. Jason never existed. And Tim suffered at the hands of the Joker (because there was no Jason).
It also creates an interesting dynamic for this street tough troublemaking, yet sincere teen to be working with an aging Bruce.
Again, having a Robin become the full-time Batman of the Future is such a creative cop-out and what they did was the perfect way to do this. (Also, I wanna mention that TDKR was the first story to show Bruce retire because of Robin's death. I personally haven't read it, but it's a Batman classic and I'm surprised you don't at least know that there'sa retired grieving Bruce in there)
Josh Brolin as old Batman would be interesting. And I'd LOVE a Red Hood villain story in a BB movie (as long as there's not so much focus on the Joker). Love the idea
Personally I prefer to have the Red Hood storyline as a sequel. It sounds really cool, but for Terry's origin story you have to have Blight/Powers. One of the many reasons why Batman Beyond is my favorite superhero is because of his great rogue's gallery: Blight, Inque, Curare, Stalker, Shriek, the Royal Flush Gang, even Willie Watt and Spellbinder.
Having Blight and Inque in the first movie would be amazing to see. Then a Red Hood movie, and finally a Joker movie.
This is a awesome perfect pitch idea great thoughts about the story n characters
lot to say about this loved every second. think the most important part throughout this entire video was right in the beginning. youre right, the simple fact that we have redone and passed on the mantle several times now. a new direction and just to change things up within the cinema for the character of batman i believe you nailed. honestly the perfect time to change things up especially DCEU not really working out at the moment. perfect time to bring in batman beyond. me personally i can never be tired of the batman origin story retold in every new adaptation. but for the normies who dont read books im sure the casual batman fans are sick and tired of seeing it. a fresh start learning about a new batman in the future and not named bruce wayne i think would be great for those who dont know anything about terry. its time for the red and black crusade.
Really awesome story pitches!!
Literally one of my favorite batman story lines growing up. Such a cool spin on it
The video was so awesome I’m definitely going to subscribe to
This channel keep
This up 🔥🔥
Really good content!!!
This show helped me grow as a youth. It was so well put together.
This sounds so interesting! I would love to see it on the big screen!
Favorite animated show. I always wanted them to do live-action version. This pitch needs some serious attention!
What a phenomenally good idea!
You’re a pitch was very compelling sounds good I like it I don’t forget the twist at the end there’s always a twist
I loved watching Batman Beyond when i was a little kid. If WB announced a live action movie, i'd be over the moon!
I really enjoyed this view of possibilities, I always wanted beyond to be live action but this was a good break down.
I genuinely want to see a live-action (BATMAN BEYOND) movie, and so I hope it gets made someday.
I hope it gets made into an Animated Movie like Spiderverse. Hopefully without a Studio Ruining it.
@@Random-Draw-Time I think it would also be great if there was a set of computer-animated (BATMAN BEYOND) movies to get made, or maybe a computer-animated (BATMAN BEYOND) show series to get made someday.
I love this idea. LOVE IT
I used to watch it as a kid twenty years ago and remember it as cool as hell. Have rewatched twice since. And a few days back, I started watching IT again, this time with my 9 yo son. First I have to prepare Polish subtitles for him but he's worth it🙂
Plus the Argus clone connection and the world "always needing a Batman" would make a great twist
It would not. The Argus clone was always dumb and super fascist.
Terry's whole arc and Bruce's whole arc is that, through hard work, will, and training, a person can become better than themselves and make a difference.
The Argus clone plot said... "Actually, Terry, you just have Batman's ubermensch DNA so of course you are great"
Oooo now this is great stuff.
I want the BB animated movie released in the original version, that would be amazing. They ended up having to cut a lot from that movie to make it G from it's original PG-13 rating, and I'm curious to what their original intention was in artistic vision. What made me love BB was the unknown aspect Terry faced since he was new to being Batman. I think Scarecrow was written in that series to be one of the most terrifying versions so far, he literally kept his classmates as his lab projects. While there are some darker moments in the films, BB was closest to the dark aspects of the comicbook. I feel like if they either adapt thematic elements closer to the original and mix it in with some The Killing Joke darkness, we could have an amazing live action BB adaptation
The only thing that was cut was since language and some blood. The og pg-13 version releases 20 years ago dude.
I have always wanted to see batman beyond live action!!! Think of the possibilities with modern CG! The joker gang is basically the joker tiktok fashion trend that popped up over the last few years! So much story to explore with Terry too! He's way more relatable than Bruce, the billionaire.
There both very relatable as three both humans
@@hassankhan7616 Most people have a hard time relating to a Multi-Billionaire fighting crime....
@@aaronthomas6155 the money aspect is achievable in real life, any person with super powers is ultimately not relatable at all dude like spidey or thor, batman is already relatable becoz he is believable and achievable in reality, also most people like batman that much becoz he is a human that's why he is loved,
I had fan cast this 20 years ago when I wanted it to be the next Batman project. I had the following :
Terry - Adrian Grenier
Bruce - James Garner
Dana - Shannyn Sossamon
Max - Kelly Rowland
Barbara - Judi Dench
I don't have enough 'YES' to give to this video.
Why hasn't this happened yet?
Thanks a lot ScreenCrush. Now I want this movie, this exact pitch, and knowing WarnerMedia I’ll never have it! 😫
I really enjoyed BB. It was darker and more mature than BTAS. The first season even had a continuing story arc. It was interesting seeing how time, the city, and people had changed. I think it was a worthy sequel & continuation of BTAS timeline.
yes yes. i love that pitch!!!
another great vid
I loved this show! Just started re-watching it! It would be amazing it WB would make a live-action film!!
Love this two film concept
I agree. Now is the time for Batman Beyond movies. The comics and the show has a huge following, and it would be a great progression to the Batman movie saga.
Amazing idea
It could be a trilogy. Live action movie with Batman making Jason Todd, robin, then the killing joke and then Batman beyond. Awesome idea 👍👍
Great vid
Amazing show. Loved that they kept Kevin Conroy; which will always be the perfect Batman voice to me. Michael Keaton would have been goodas old Bruce in live action Batman Beyond.
I have been saying this for years. This is by far my favorite Batman storyline.
Ooooo I like that twist, having Red Hood as the villain of a Batman Beyond story???? That's genius my guy!
Love the idea. Timing would be tricky though.
I was obsessed with this show as a kid, Return of the Joker movie was so so good
OH MY GOD!!!! SCREEN CRUSH YOU JUST TELLING THEM A VERY WERY GOOD IDEA AMAZING IDEA BTW I LOVE IT!!!!
my favourte batman series ever, awesome intro theme, it was epic
I would LOVE this movie so much, I never really knew about the Batman beyond show growing up but I wish I did
Yes! I love this vision for a new Batman movie.
This is a fantastic idea
Dam, this video makes me want to watch Batman Beyond. 100% agree we need a Batman Beyond movie. Been waiting my whole adult life for one.
Yes I love this one idea and pitch.
Yesssss!!! I loved Batman Beyond!!❤️
The perfect old Bruce and Terry pair was shown already. Michael Keaton and Dylan O'Brien from American Assassin.
You nailed this. If Warner Brothers ever does a Batman Beyond Movie they better cut ScreenCrush a check
OMG Josh Brolin as old Bruce is simply perfect 🤯
Loved Batman beyond. I’d definitely wanna see this
I'd watch these movies and haven't seen even one episode of Beyond. Well done 👌
A totally good idea!
I love this concept and yeah let's do this
Agreed with this video so much
I would love to see a live action batman beyond. Been saying that for years now
7:45 I like how he used the clip from the uncensored Return of the Joker
I was 5-8yrs old watching Batman Beyond. I remember when McDonald's had the "Inque" bendable toy. She was a fun character that could be used in a film adaptation. Also it's funny many of us thought Robert P. was going to do Batman Beyond because he wasn't bulking up for the role.
I’ve been begging for a Batman Beyond movie for YEARS
Fantastic ideas for a live-action Batman Beyond movie. I really love the Red Hood Robin as the villain of the movie, and either Michael Keaton or George Clooney, since they were each the main Batman at one point themselves,.. although Josh Brolin could a good old-Batman also.
I would love to have a batman beyond movie. For a long time now i thought that it should be keaton as old bruce and that should probly take off from where we left off in the tim verse. But i do like the idea of the red hood, you made a lot of good points about the symmetry of the justice vs vengeance theme. I just hope that the WB doesnt screw it up.
A Blade Runner style Batman Beyond would be amazing
YESSS That's what we need
Ok I was hesitant but man this was genius!
Imagine Kevin Conroy played as Old Bruce Wayne in the Live-Action version of Batman Beyond. Sadly, we never see or made it because of his passing.
R.I.P. to the Batman legend. 🦇♥️
I grew up with Batman Beyond. I was so happy to see it in HBO Max. Time to rewatch it!! 😊
My dream movie would be a live action Batman Beyond with a unique spin on The Joker Returns, with Kevin Conroy as an old Bruce Wayne and William Dafoe as the Joker!!
The only way I'm watching another Batman movie with the Joker in it, is if Willem Dafoe is playing Joker.
I wish the Batgirl movie should sets up Batman Beyond's origin story at the end.
Fantastic idea! Gives us a direct line into JLU (my suggestion for movie 2 or movie 3) as well as Legion of Super-Heroes (my suggestion of a spin-off from your suggested trilogy). I'm in - let me know who I need to connect you to to get this thing going.
Yes 🙌🙌🙌 I loved Batman Beyond so so much!!!
We are all waiting
How was I just thinking about this like 8 hours ago(future Batman) and here it is on CZcams.
If AND when they do a live action Splicers would be a good episode to get an idea from. Or EVEN BETTER The Call both parts 1 and 2.
Yes!
Best shock start to any spin off show ever.
Just started this series again today!!
🤯💗love your movie idea
Yes please!!
So many great visual tributes to Akira too.
