- Abandoned Toys R Us - Highland Park, IL. This store closed in 2018 when the chain filed for bankruptcy. There was a wave of closures to start before the company would close all locations just months later. At one point in time, this shopping center was much different than it is now. My friend, Jon, tells the story of this place.

I used to shop in this store - I worked in Highland Park almost 15 years ago and went there a few times to buy Christmas and birthday gifts for my nieces. I don't remember it being very busy those days, but seeing it empty like this is sad. They all used to have so much life and energy in them!
Oh wow. I did this one about a year ago and got inside. I'm glad I got to see your take of it. I didn't know the police department was right there LOL
Oops! LOL!
Wow! Crazy how the signs are still there, let alone lighting up 6 years later! Cool video Wallie!
Great video! Super cool! Can’t believe the sign is still up.
My childhood toys or us was in gurney mills IL
Still lights up! 😍🥹Awesome! Those are even rarer! Great find dude!
Don't thank me! Thank Jon Rev!
@@WallieB26that’s amazing! My local one (Springfield, OH) closed in 2006. Used to a be former Sun Tv previously.
Wow Awesome I love amazing Videos of all time favorite Abandoned Toys R us. It's pretty cool find Wallie.
Haven't seen a toys r us sign and actually still lights up, wow!!!! Thanks for sharing brother
Last time I saw one was in Lima, OH and they had a lot of stuff in the dumpsters. You were with me. That store is now a Micheal arts and craft.
Hey Wallie! So I was driving around Davenport Iowa and I saw an abandoned Walmart. It was like a 90's style one. Its right by a Sams Club that is still active. I just thought that I would share that to you because you are in the Illinois area. I hope you visit it.
Great to see a Toys R Us store again.
12:02 Great Job!!
JUST SLAP SPIRIT HALLOWEEN OVER THE TOYS R US SIGN!!!!
No one will know
Lol
Awesome Video Wallie thanks for sharing buddy :D
Hello, Wallie! My name is Brad and I live in Wrentham, Mass., which is just under an hour southwest of Boston. First of all, I started watching your videos about a month ago because they allowed me to relive my youth when I went shopping at two fantastic stores, Toys "R" Us and Ames. The closest Toys "R" Us for me was in Bellingham, Mass. off Interstate 495 and the closest Ames was on Route 140 in the neighboring town of Franklin, Mass. I always used to buy Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars and playsets, as well as Nickelodeon VHS tapes/DVDs from both places. Those were great times when I used to go with my father and we'd go bargain hunting $ 🙂$. Also, this video, in particular, is so cool because my father used to work as a pharmacist for Osco Pharmacy 😀 for Shaw's, a New England supermarket chain, which is also a subsidiary of Albertsons. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more videos 👍. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your story! I have a cousin who lives in Boston and my grandfather was from nearby Fall River. I need to make my way back up there! I'm glad you enjoy my videos. Thank you for stopping by here! Take care! Stay awesome!
Wow this video is amazing
That abandoned toys r us still has it's letters at the top lol thanks for sharing this Wallie. Awesome 😎👍
Bro my grandma used to take me to this exact toysrus and than I just see this casually on my recommendation 😭
My childhood…. Is gone. Or is it. Thank you soooo much for showing this wonderful video this means a lot to me. I don’t want to grow up.
Dude!! I've noticed you've been doing a lot of videos in the Chicago suburbs and that's pretty awesome🎉
As always great video 👍
Thanks!
Crazy that the signs still light up! I love it though. A bit comforting and a piece of nostalgia even if we "tru"ly know it isn't in business anymore. Still a great video, love the tiles and thanks for the images at the end! I loved the one of the boy smiling with a vintage (?) Geoffrey!
Love your videos, bud!!! Remember me, when I commented and you favorited it about a year ago?
The former Jackson, TN Toys R Us location is now an Auto Zone .
Great video Wallie
Thank you!
Good video! You don't see too many abandoned Toys R Us around, The one, that I used to go to, was made into a Burlington clothing store!
Fun fact: This location oddly got newer 2011/2012 decor meant for remodeled/newer locations (E.g. Cashiers, Banners, Displays, Walls)
I love abonded places
Me too!
One of the best abandoned places I have found so far, I check it when I’m in highland park
awesome
Love you videos
Thank you!
Wow 👌 awesome 👌 video ❤

WallieB26, really enjoyed your awesome abandoned Toys"R"Us video! Long time no see! Wish I could meet you and Kayla if y'all ever come through Oklahoma going to Texas!
I loved this. It gives me memorys about my early years. Thanks! I don't know about you but I really really miss toys r us and honestly the new toys r us is not the same. What do you remember about toys r us? I remember a lot because we used to go there all the time.
Also I did not know Albertsons owned stores out east like that. Speaking of which what do you think of Albertsons and there stores? I like Them they have great sales if you are a member.
That looks very much like the Old Toys R Us in Beavercreek Ohio(at 2626 North Fairfield Road) but without the small "Kids R Us" sign to the bottom right of the main sign.
I remember that store, I know they moved the store down the plaza sometime in the late 2000s I think. The old location became a mattress store and then a Spirit Halloween.
@@slackingpacking the building at 2520 North Fairfield Road is the New Old Toys R Us, what you just mentioned is exactly what I was talking about, the Old Old Toys R Us. The strangest thing I remembered inside was a big black pendant mount dome camera that was seen there and in the Best Buy up the road from it.
I laughed pretty hard when you said aerostar and then I was like and my head that's a freestar then you corrected it lol 🤣
Also that's a pretty sweet Toys r Us it's cool that the sign is still partially lit what's left of it
I liked this even before I watched it!!! Cool 😎 🆒️
Thank you!
@WallieB26 I was gonna ask you if one still existed. But now I don't have to. I'm jealous you get to see some cool stuff. I'm sure you will be filming Century 3 mall at some point. Hopefully, one day, I'll get to meet you. I'm minutes from the mall! I'm about 5 minutes walking distance. 🚶♂️ stay awesome!
It was a Spirit Halloween at one point
I saw in the photos I found after doing the video!
Dang that’s a good one.
I'm currently 21 years of age and not quite sure if some TOYS R US stores are still around or not but it would've been cool to go to one when I was little, but yeah I never been to one. The part of the West Coast that I'm from had a blockbusters in my town I've been to once but I was the age that I wouldn't remember it.
Fun video lol
Thanks! Lol
Don't quite know how much longer that could be considered as "abandoned", I heard Toys-R-Us is working on making a comeback.
I remember my dad and I would shop at Toys R Us for the latest diecast toy cars as often as possible. My parents would shop Toys R Us (as well as KB Toys) for other toys too like Legos, Playmobile and dolls. I don't remember my mom or sisters going to T.R.U. as often as my dad and I went. Great memories though! 🙂
Spooky the lights on the front letters are still on
well the location that was in lynnwood washington got turned into an Ashley homestore furniture store sadly. thing is they are devolving the area around the mall. the old sears became an apartment building. a dave and busters went in on one part of the apartment building. also one part of the parking lot to the mall got a shake shack. there is something going on with the old credit union there but idk what since i moved before the shake shack opened and the work on the old credit union was going on .
Just in case you didn't know the white settlements Toys r Us that you covered is now a Boot Barn so take care
I'm shocked to see this tbh. SOOOOO many have been replaced. I don't think there is any TRU within 200 miles of me in Cheyenne, WY that's abandoned. A couple BRU's MAYBE, but that's it.
Their was an abandoned Carson’s in Chicago ridge, Illinois. I don’t know if it’s still their.
I can't believe it's 2024 and the sign is still up/lit up at night
Check out the abandoned toys r us in Rochester, Minnesota
wow, still abandoned.
U should do a abandoned video of fairway in Dollar general Sauk village Illinois and the two stores is right next to each other please
Indicative of the decay of the country. The values , the priorities
Highland Park Illinois is where a tragic shooting took place at a Fourth of July Parade.
Here in Canada they still exist along with BabiesRus, one in my old childhood shopping centre just recently took over a Bed Bath & Beyond last spring or summer
Although I never really found them interesting as a kid they are pretty cool though
As soon as I receive my passport, I'm coming up to Canada to shop at one and film it.
@@WallieB26 K 👍
