  • Welcome to LongIslandFireAlarmGallery! This is a channel because the old website Long Island Fire Alarm shut down around 2009. I will be re uploading as many archived recordings as I can. Enjoy the videos! -The Chach

Thanks so much for posting this!! It's my favorite diaphone and evocative of great nostalgia for me. This is the heyday of this horn and here it is in the best possible "voice" and actually sounds "proud"!! Sadly it's gone and now there are no more diaphones anywhere on Fire Island. so glad to have heard this horn at the height of its powers and very much in its prime but sadly I also heard it on its way down to its eventual decline and subsequent removal. Maintenance simply became too cost prohibitive and the increasing absence of available parts to keep it functional were too difficult to come by. This was certainly the reason for the elimination and removal of the Ocean Beach diaphone and there were many valve problems and sticking in Saltair. Because of the sticky valve situation the horn would skip numbers when blowing out a box number confusing the firefighters as to the location of the fire so that was the end of the box system. That went first before Firecom came around.

For any of you that are curious, the Model 2 siren heard after the noon blast was coming from Kismet, NY.

We had to Diaphones taken out of service in New Milford NJ because citizens of New Milford NJ had some complaints about noise 🙄 so Company 1 in New Milford NJ is only Horn left Company 2 at Trenton street has a Siren before the horn was on tower for a long time same as the DPW by the Tenis Court

Last year its soon my Fire pager went off the horn wasn't working and one Fireman's told me that there Chronic valve problem again so they had to fix the horn once again now its only 2 honks for Fire calls only because they didn't want to do Noon test anymore so that ended

So idk if it’s this one but at the Little Rock Fire Station #2 in Little Rock, AR they installed a diaphone and it sounds a lot like this one. Could it be Saltaries Diaphone?
