    As a captain you gotta get your people to the back of the boat when waves like that are rolling around. When you’re in a smaller boat trim up and give it power but don’t get on plane keep the bow pointed at the sky

      I'm looking to buy my first boat and I never knew that, it makes sense especially when you see the videos but these video examples are good to see a possibly life saving. I got really scared watching that first video because there were really close when the boat start "listing". I know those Boston Whalers are considered unsinkable but lives could have been lost if they had people fall out, and the girl had no life preserver on.

      The word captain gets thrown around way too often. Just because you are driving a boat doesn't make you a captain. Real captains should be insulted to be lumped in with some of these dumbasses who haven't ever driven a boat more than 5 times. Just because you own/rent a boat doesn't mean that you are a legit captain.

    I don't know if those smaller boats have any type of bilge or sump pumps, but having a passenger and dogs riding up in the bow, especially when traveling at slower speeds, is a good way to take a good amount of water into the boat when you stuff the bow. But it didn't sink, so that's a plus. As far as listing, just move passengers to the other side to counter-balance the degree of tilt.

    The part I do not understand is why people would take a 10 foot boat into 15 foot seas?

    Those Boston Whalers have a drooping bow that seem to be designed to pickup water. That design always struggles at the inlet.

    it's weird, most the boats I see in Washington are inboard engines while they seem to mostly be outboard engines down there in Florida

    Can’t sink that little Whaler. Even if you cut it in half. He picked one of the safest boats on the market and because of that, got home safe at the end of the day.

    Need to trim the engine to lift front of boat some of them are trim down max front of bow inches from water lol no experience

  • @DickinsonLivingInDickinsonNort

    In the 1960s and 1970s Boston Whalers had very low sides, but were unsinkable because of the buoyancy of their thick "sandwhich" layered hull. See the older Boston Whaler boat a few minutes later in this video. This new design with a downward bow is like a submarine.

    Don't even own a boat but common sense tells me life preservers are a must. Especially when you have kids in the bow of a small boat that can take on water so easily or toss them around like rag dolls in to the ocean.

    That last boat has 600 hp. How about he trims his engine and uses some of it? Nah I’ll just cut it and bob in the swells

    These are spoon boats, I say. They are the best way to drink all the water in the ocean. A medal for the designer. And another one for the buyer.

    I'm not a big fan of government involvement, but there should be BIG FLASHY signs on the shore telling people to get off the bow in anything less than 60' 🤷

  • @jazzcowboy18
    @jazzcowboy18 Před 3 lety +1

    The whaler is unsinkable. This does not mean that it can’t be swamped or capsized! Should have trimmed up, pulled plug, and planed the boat enough or at the very least gun it once or twice so that water washed out over the transom (or maybe his crew could have helped bail while moving to the back in the process?!?!?). It’s not that the little boat isn’t seaworthy, it’s the people in it who arnt. I will also say, the design of modern whalers is nothing compared to the older models. This is coming from someone who has a classic 13, classic montauk, and classic outrage all in the family 😊

    They were never sinking, you can’t sink an unsinkable boat. He should have made the bow passenger move to the stern.

    Only the lucky 🍀 fact that this “captain” was wise enough to buy an “unsinkable” foam filled Whaler hull saved them. His naïveté in driving a boat 🚤 in serious conditions demonstrated the training need.

  • @NUTHUGGER2000
    @NUTHUGGER2000 Před 3 lety

    That Whaler could go through that inlet better than most boats three times the size. All that guy had to do was trim up, speed up and pull the plug that's right behind him.
