Tha k you for this review came at the perfect time. Hardly anyone on CZcams is talking about the 9315. Ive been looking for a back to school laptop for the past few months ready for the end of September and looked at the 9315 first however I was concerned the battery life wouldnt be greatafter hearing reviews on the 13 plus. But this has really helped with my decision.
Another great review. Glad to see the Windows Updates and patch fixed the hibernation issue.
Like the review. I prefer maybe putting the xps 9320 and a m2 air beside it in the audio test, because perspective is important.
Fantastic review! After returning my Dell xps 13 plus due to terrible battery life, constant lagging, and loud fan running nonstop I was in search of another Ultrabook. I was choosing between the Lenovo yoga 9i gen 7 and this Dell xps 9315 2022. I ended up getting the Lenovo yoga 9i due to better hardware and BestBuy special making the same price.
Loving the bright display which is always a good thing. Quality of the internal mic is nice and clear, the 720p webcam quality is good but would prefer 1080p. The battery life is excellent as well. The built-in speakers sound great also. The slimmer the laptop is from any manufacturer, the less you will be able to upgrade internally so make sure you get what you want when configuring it on the website. The lack of ports is an issue for me but if that doesn’t really bother you, then it’s fine. Thank you for another great video review Andrew!! 👍😁
One issue of concern is a memory failure would mean a replacement motherboard sine the RAM is soldered on. That coulkd be an expensive fix.
@@PWingert1966 SSD failure would make it a paperweight. Oh wait, it's too light even for that! 🙄
THank you for another great Review Andrew
Thanks for this review. I ordered one in umber because of anticipated better contrast against the backlit keyboard.
I actually have the umber coming in for review as well
What a good review, keep the good work up Andrew, I loved the video, you deserve the best!!
Thanks a ton!
A fantastic-honest review! Thanks! 👍
is there any video where you explain the differents fitures about computers you mention about? Thank you, like your channel
Been using this laptop for a handful of weeks now and I absolutely love it. Got the 1TB, i7 touch screen in all Sky. I got it for school to run powerful data analysis software and it exceeds my expectations. However, for the price point, I do feel like I got a little cheated on the port options. Basically had to order a dock so I would not be surprised if it's a Dell strategy to sell docks or buy the Plus.
The Plus has the same IO
@@lucanicolasstefan4788 And it sucks.
If I buy the xps 13... it wont be touch screen and itll be the 12th gen i7 you guys think i should go for it? Tbh EVERY SINGLE LAPTOP is making me worried with atleast some issues... its making my situation a "pick your poison" type of sitch... very worried any tips on a laptop to buy?
@@ElLoco--uq4uf let me just tell you that I'm on my third XPS. I would get a refund if they let me but the refund period is over. Can only hope this one stays alive while my warranty lasts. I'd recommend any other laptop. I haven't heard much about the 13 plus.
@@erivera8193 If you don't mind me asking, what problems have you had that have results in you returning two of them?
Excellent video as usual, Dave ! Keep up the excellent work and may God bless you always !
I m a Dell fan and Dell user (I have an old vostro 15 3000 series) and I am still happy with its performance !
If I had the money to buy a new computer system, it would definately be a Dell (no WIN 11 for a while, WIN 10 PRO !)
I think that this number of ports is too limited and forces you to use a dongle ! Sad !
Their displays are always great ! My Vostro has a great monitor still today !
Impecable camera and sound !
WOW ! Even if it is "only" 10 hours, you can work all day with this system ! Fantastic !
Performance ? OK ! Nobody is perfect ! But for work, is more than enough ! Writing, crushing numbers on Excel etc...
I WOULD DEFINATELY BUY ONE IF I HAD THE MONEY !
EXCELLENT MACHINE !
Ahhh I was watching a few of your reviews and your one on the 2022 Dell XPS13 plus did the trick but now i cannot find it. One thing I'm trying to find is what comes in the box. Or would a bigger size like Dell XPS 15 have those USB ports I'm comfortable with? It was about 19 mins ...
Amazing as always. Can we get the vivobook pro 15x amd version?
great review. can u do a review on dell xps 13 9315 oled display and the price?
Pertamax! Always enjoy your review...
I do pretty intensive programming and do not need anything out of my graphics card. I want this as my new daily driver, and for the price best buy is offering it seems amazing. Do you think it could handle this? (i7-1250U and 32GB ram)
My unit has a weird humming noise, which drives me nuts. No fixes for it so far
How’s the speaker compare with iPad Pro 12.0”?
is there no charging light to indicate charging and finished charging?
finally the video I looked for on CZcams
A used Dell XPS 13 9315 with core i5 12 lth gen, 16GB LPDDR5 5200 MHz, 500GB M.2 PCle NVMe, FHD+ IPS, Non-touch screen. How much will I have to pay for these configurations in the UK?
This laptop or asus zenbook duo... Which will be best??
Update: this laptop has been in Dells hands longer than in mine. I had a screen defect, not even sure how but they put it down as accidental damage. Kept pushing back the repair date but apparently they couldn't get their hands on the touchscreen needed so after a bit of pushing they are sending me a "new" model (originally wanted to give me a refurbished one) and here's to hoping I can just use a laptop for school.
3 days since your last live, we’re dying over here!
This week don't worry will be back in action
I have switched from macbook pro 13 to the dell xps OLED 9310 due to the M1 incompatibility BS, best laptop I ever had up to now
What incompatibility? Rosetta is brilliant.
Great review, regarding the internals, did I listen correctly that the SSD is soldered on and therefore cannot be upgraded?
That is correct
@@andrewmarcdavid does the screen flip down flat or is it limited ?
One of the biggest problems with Dell at the moment is quality, I think. I'm seeing Dell laptops failing all over the place...
The „moment“ seem to stretch over years or even decades.
My XPS 13 9370 begun falling apart quickly once the warranty run out. Soldered on components that broke can’t be replaced.
Energy saving mode like with pretty much any other laptop never worked. No matter the bios and settings, it kills the battery and overheats in the backpack. It has to be full hibernation to even be able to use the device.
Fans obviously also died. Would be obviously to much to expect a 2 thousand dollar laptop do not be utter shite. :)
Dell support is so abysmal you could consider it not even existing if you aren’t a corporate client.
Dell: never again
@@AirrowRocket Ever since the 2015 redesigns, this crap has been happening. And their customer service before 2015 was great. Now it's awful.
Unfortunately that seems to be a problem for a lot of laptop makers, e.g. Lenovo.
@@mariopenulli1395 Lenovo's customer support has been much better recently.
@@mariopenulli1395tbh, lenovo support is way more better rn. Their response is fast, helpful and effective.
Video quality: excellent colors, somewhat low resolution. Sound: excellent.
Regarding battery life vs. XPS 13Plus... I guess the performance can be reduced somewhat in battery mode on the XPS 13 Plus to increase battery life?? And still be worthwhile since it can run faster when powered from the wall?
I've used it before. Still get around 3 hours on the FHD model.
Nice package with the long battery life. Looks like a winner. I wish the SSD was upgradable but that is probably a trade off in favor of lower price and compactness. Nice IR camera for Face ID too. No audio jack is minor issue for me. I use BT earbuds and carry wired version with adapter for USB connection. Camera, mics and audio seemed excellent. That sky option is really nice to my eyes when seen in store.
Of course not, they did it to make the laptop 1 - 2 mm slimmer. I'd GLADLY take that thicker 1 - 2 mm for a replaceable SSD and a headphone jack.
Is it compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 ? Because on Dell's website it says 20.04
Nice looking PC. Camera was above average for a 720p camera but still not as good as the 1080p cameras we have seen on other laptops. Display is very good. Mics sounded good. Port selection is poor. The big problem with this is the soldered in SSD. If the motherboard goes bad for any reason whether under warranty or not all data is gone. Because of Dell going 180 degrees in the wrong direction with this I would under no cirumstances purchase this. There are better choices of PC's out there. Dell needs to get their act together and stop going in the wrong direction on this issue just to save a few bucks. In the long run it will hurt them more than help them. With a starting price of $929.00 it is very easy to ignore this product. Excellent review as always.
A few companies are soldering their components part of planned obsolescence
@@zythr9999 True but it still does not make it right.
@@williamcohen3351 I agree. Heck, Microsoft went and added removable SSDs to their laptops (mostly for servicing) and actually have tablets with user replaceable SSDs.
I would have gotten this, but the Lenovo Z13 takes the competition on battery life.
Not having I/O ports is a deal breaker.
It's the one thing I hate the most about MacBook.
Why do they have to do the same thing to the windows laptops?
The Macbook actually has more I/O ports than the XPS now. Imagine that!
🔥 Thank you
You're welcome!
Nice! I want this laptop
How are u finding it now? I’m thinking bout buying it but idk if I should. Been hearing bad things bout it
Currently I am using dell inspirion i3 10th gen with 4 gb of ram and 1tb hdd but it hangs a lot.
I was thinking of buying xps for basically opening 10 chrome tabs together,ms office and a little bit of web browsing but I never play games.
1. How much is the battery backup?
2. Does it hangs with my usage?
3. Is bootup fast ?
I was thinking of 8gb and 256ssd
Please comment
please review zenbook 14x space edition
This would have become one of the best ultrabooks around with a 6600u/6800u inside. At these lower wattages amd has better performance plus much better igpu.
Though maybe dell is not to blame since 6000u series seem to be in very short supply and dell probably did not want to have a asus zen 13s oled situation.
Then they could have offered both. Face it, Intel doesn't want their biggest customer (which is Dell) to leave them, even though at 35 watts and below, AMD actually outperforms Intel AND has better battery life (according to Jarrod's Tech).
how to turn off touch screen?
I much prefer this standard model to the XPS Plus, as the touchpad is a deal breaker for me. I much prefer a standard trackpad like this model has. I'm also not a fan of the keyboard on the Plus. I would prefer 10% thicker and more standard USB 3 ports. I don't really care about a headphone jack as the adaptor is fine. I'm ordering this with an i7, 1tb and 32gb of Ram as my everyday laptop as to take wear and tear off of my ASUS 18" NVDIA 4070 laptop bomb.
my xps 13 died on me within 13 months and dell wouldn't service for free when its the hardware (motherboard) issue, power keeps turning off randomly , now it powers off every other minutes, bad experience with dell
I’m an Attorney, and was given a new Inspiron 14 7490 by my Firm for work back in 2020. Stunning design, i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, DGPU and all the bells and whistles. Absolutely loved it until a few months later, the Speakers would crack or eff up, fans would go mad even at low temperatures and loads (and wouldn’t shut up unless the Laptop was Rebooted) and it would wobble and didn’t sit firm on all tables (semi-circle workstations for eg).
I informed the dudes about it, and they gave me a new XPS 13 Plus a few months back. Similar config. The build quality of XPS is good, and it’s stunning af. But now I face almost all the same issues. Speakers go bonkers whenever they like, Fans go full F-35, sometimes Thermal Throttles so bad that it takes ages to load even Folders or Settings, and at times randomly shuts down and restarts. This time I’m keeping mum, before I’m kicked out for always whining lmfao.
I’m an Apple fanboy (and a PC Gamer). Have always used only Apple (save for Gaming PC’s). I always held Dell’s XPS and HP’s Spectre lineup in high regard, but never bought them lol. Dell really let me down and validated all my Mac purchases.
What do you mean speakers "go bonkers" on your XPS 13 Plus? Do you mean at max volume it distorts or what happens to them exactly? Most people say speakers are good on this one so trying to understand your problem with them.
Dude you're a lawyer and yet you have English grammar of a grade school kid. LMAO, the only two things I understood were you're a lawyer and you're an Apple fanboy. The rest was all gibberish. 🤣🤣

@@erivera8193 what? so the laptop is sky but the keyboard is umber? so is the whole keyboard area umber or just the keys and trackpad?

I'm just thankful there's 1 USB c port on each side unlike Apples MacBook air 😂 Also I wish this laptop had a lip on the display to make it easier to open one handed. I have this laptop and I gotta say it's great!
Lenovo has so many great products right now and Dell has such poor QC that the XPS line no longer makes sense.
Thanks Steve. It's great that there are so many great choices out there.
@@andrewmarcdavid Lenovo Yoga series, especially Yoga 6 and Yoga 7 convertible. Yoga 6 is almost XPS 13 convertible.
please note that according to Dell Italy website, 9315 is also available with UHD+ touch display
I recommend against this. UHD+ and touch are just a waste of battery life.
1920x1200 is plenty good enough on a 13" screen.
could i change the ssd ?
No
Look like another piece of disposable junk. Which is EXACTLY what it is. The soldered SSD and same poor port selection is absolutely unacceptable and unnecessary on a laptop.
Just get an HP Pavillion Plus at this price point; it DESTROYS this Dell XPS in every possible way. Or go MacBook Air, either way, this laptop is WORSE than the XPS 13 9320 by a long shot.
They literally made this laptop too thin and even too small. Did ANYBODY think the 9300/9310 was too small? No? Well good, because even Apple, a company known for pricey laptops that are repair-hostile recently have reverted some of their more unpopular moves, like dropping MagSafe, keeping a headphone jack on the Macs, and even making the battery easier to replace. What does Dell do? Copy Apple 5 years late and do it worse.
I literally have seen some Best Buys recall the XPS 9320 because of issues with the screen falling off and/or stopping working. Why can't Dell realize when enough is enough?
Without the signature carbon fiber, SSD soldered, and QC issues, why the hell should I buy this over a Macboor Air or other better competing laptops?
@@joeygarcia8295 Exactly.
I've used Dell XPS 13 for 1 year. This has been by far the most overrated and thoroughly dissapointing laptop I've known. Always been plagued by fake promises of long battery life (Max 3 hours), overheating (persistent problem), pairing issues, audio jack issues, a frustrating USB 3 converter... I've used Lenovo Carbon 1 for 5 years and it still works fine. Funny thing when I was buying I was only seeing these so called articles recommedning it as the best laptop... and once I started having issues, I started seeing only stories ofdisappointment. Had to recycle it in 1 year and now I use Macbook Air. Was a Windows user for 19 years of my professional life. Dell sold me out on Windows. And I'm absolutely happy with Mac (3 months usage). Pls typ out common XPS issues and buy this junk at your own risk.
What’s a better laptop you recommend aside from mac? I have mac and need a good windows laptop for compatibility
What happened to the carbon fiber? That's one of the main reasons why I even deal with Dell's poor QC issues.
Gone... just another layer on the 💩 sundae...
The carbon fiber is in the Dell Precision 5470, which is actually pretty awesome.
Yeah, I was disappointed that this isn't offered anymore.
Needs an HDMI adapter in the box.
The 720P camera is a plus? Not in this day and age.
Would be nice if it was 1080p but the camera was actually pretty good
Not to mention, the other negatives are honestly so much worse.
@@andrewmarcdavid Hmm...sounds like you may be afraid to say bad things about the laptop. I typically enjoy your reviews and live steams. I find them very informative, but I'm getting the feeling you don't want to piss off the laptop companies. I think you should just say it, a 720p camera in 2022 is bad.
@@UnKnown-xj5tm not at all. If the camera is good it’s good. I tell it like it is
@@andrewmarcdavid Ok, I guess I'm wrong. A 720p camera is good in 2022. Thanks for letting me rant.
I stopped watching at 5:45. Losing the microSD slot, and headphone jack is one thing, but the SSD not being upgradable was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This isn’t the upgrade that my 9300 deserves.
Bingo. If I wanted a soldered SSD, I'd go for Apple. With Windows, EVERY OTHER BRAND has it removable. Goodbye and good riddance Dell!
I don't think Dell wants this to be the successor to the 9300-9310, it's more of something to get you to look at the XPS 13 Plus instead. Which does have upgradable storage, for example. You're right that it's terrible they removed the headphone jack though and the microSD.
This laptop overall is so similar to intel macbook air, same downsides, same upsides
So basically Dell has taken a page out of Apple's book in terms of it's construction...
It's a shame really given Dell's history on reparability, ease of maintenance and access to replacement parts...
The ugly thing notebooks manufacturers did is they replaced good old touch pads with a new dull touch pads to make the users depend on the touch screens.
Touchpad works great on this machine.
@@andrewmarcdavid i bought one in the middle east and the touch pad has no buttons and it is very dull.
Is it worth in 2024
Would have loved to see this with a USB-A port and a replaceable SSD.
USB-A really makes no sense in 2022 and sinply doesn't work with such a slim design. Plus it comes with an C-to-A adapter that I hardly ever use anymore.
@@oerthling Doesn’t make sense to you. But in reality, it is still very much ubiquitous. I have owned laptops that were thinner and still had USB-A.
Touchscreen or not
I like having the touchscreen.
@@andrewmarcdavid Bad idea. Using touchscreen on laptop is awkward hand movement, but above all wastes battery life for bad ergonomics.
Where is usb?
So new computers are useless now that's messed up
1 left, 1 right. In case you meant A vs C - it's 2022. And in case you have ancient hardware that still needs USB-A this comes with an adapter.
Dell going the way of Apple, hard to upgrade, hard to repair.
My policy has always been that if I had to have onsite service during the initial warranty then I extend the warranty by a year. Its come in useful on two of the six machines i have had.
@@PWingert1966 bottomline is you paid additional to them and if these machines are not manufactured to fail, we don't need them additional warranties in the first place.
@@wwbren In the two cases I utilized the extended warranty (A failed ethernet port, and an audio system failure) I cost me $200 for the warranty. Replacing the motherboard out of warranty would have been $1000 and then another $200 for labor. It is almost impossible to order motherboards retail and Dell will only sell to authorized retailers who then markup the parts. SO an extended warranty of $200 for a year is not a bad value
No mention in cons about no single upgrade option ? Not even the SSD.
Yet another bad example Dell took over from Apple. I hope this is not a trend.
I harped on it in the upgrade section
@@andrewmarcdavid Not enough imo. Every other Windows OEM doesn't do that. Heck, I've seen laptops with replaceable RAM that are barely any thicker than this.
maybe 3 hours on battery
Dell went wrong this year. Both this version and the Plus missed the mark of what XPS used to be. The Plus compromised function for a poor aesthetics with bad keyboard design, and no keys for function rows - something they could not learn from Apple's own mistakes. And this version does not offer the full performance CPU option, on top of having this ugly white keyboard. I hope next year they get back to the tried and true XPS design philosophy.
it’S a mini-FURNACE 😂
I just bought one of these coming from a 2018 Huawei Matebook X pro and this Dell is a piece of s**t in comparison. Worse screen, Worse trackpad, worse size, Way worse audio/speakers, Can't upgrade the SSD. No ports. I am shocked that a laptop I bought in 2018 for £1000 is WAY better than something I paid £1300 (I bought the 4K touchscreen XPS version) in 2023! I cannot believe how these "ultrabook" laptops have gone backwards and not improved in 5 years! The good... Great keyboard. That is it. Also my Huawei Matebook Pro came with NO bloatware. Nothing on it other than Windows. This has all kinds of crap I don't need or want. AVOID. I'm typing on this XPS 13 2022 but it's going back.
