    Hey great video. Honestly looking at all them parts when taking that monster apart gives me chills. When I was 20 years old with no money, I had to do a clutch on a 5 speed Mazda. It was fix it or no car for me. I prayed big time and with gods help it took me 3 weeks to replace the clutch. Back then I had no mechanical inclination, but I did it. I felt so good afterwards. It still brings tears to my eyes. This monster 4L60E is very complicated for me, but I will give it a go and pray for a good result. Thanks for the video friend.

    After reviewing your tutorial over the 4L60E rebuild for roughly 2 weeks I decided to tackle mine. Prolly watched each video at least twice and a few even more. I had severely burnt the frictions in the 3-4 clutch pack, broken rear output ring gear teeth that chewed up it's planetary, as well as basically overrun the entire hydromatic system with both chunks of gear teeth and lots of debris from frictions and steel flake. You sir are very organized and meticulous. Very precise and clear instructions along with explanations and examples. Thanks to your video production along with a few technical guides I am stoked to inform that having never began to consider anything transmission related. I have successfully in my first attempt 💯% broke down, cleaned, inspected throughout and replaced all broken &\or suspect components and reinstalled a badass New to me 4L60E with some upgrades. She's shifting better than ever and stronger feeling torque then prior without a doubt. Such an amazing personal victory, my hats off to you and your team. For nearly $800 I'm cruising a 2800$ 4L60E in my 04' Yukon! Many thanks!

    Well Jimmy, we did it. Thanks a million, actually $1938.00, because that is what I actually saved by ordering your basic rebuild kit plus your additional recommendations (drive shell and a few other items). The local transmission shop wanted $2373.00 CAD and your parts with shipping to Canada and taxes was $435.00 CAD (not including fluids). This was the first time I did a tranny rebuild, and with your video's and excellent technical support line it made it a lot easier than anticipated. The hardest part that I encountered was the lip seals in the reverse input clutch housing. I ended up ruining the first set. I picked up another set at the local gm dealer ($12) and found it easier to use a bright light to shine it down along the piston to see where the seal was hanging up and then gently tuck it in at that point with the feeler gauge you recommended. Second time around was a snap compared to the first try. I had a couple other minor issues, but with the online video's it made it easy to go back and review, not to mention the few calls I made to your help line, and this put us right back on track. Thanks again Jimmy, from Noel in Canada.

      @blackericdenice Před 9 lety +8

      I read 3 books, a lot of blogs from Google and watched every 4L60e video on youtube. I reuse my old reverse lip seal because the new one wouldn't go n. It was a 96 4x4 Tahoe with 285,000 miles that had no engine braking and slipping going to 2nd and 3rd gear but only at heavy throttle. The band was fine and the 3-4 clutches had normal wear. The problem was the forward clutches was burnt. The 96 aluminum forward clutch piston was cracked and loosing pressure. I upgraded to a use 99 steel forward clutch housing. It's been 18 months and 15,000 miles.

    Thank you thank you once again I find this channel to be so exciting just to learn new ways on fixing my trucks. I have I think six or seven Chevy avalanche all the way from 2002 to 2005 I don’t know why but I love those trucks they look so cool I’ve always wanted one when they came out brand new but I could not afford $70,000 that’s what they were valued at that time now if you shop around pretty good you can pick up a pretty decent Chevy avalanche for about $3000 to $6000 which I have purchased. But I know that three of them need a transmission overhaul and I find out that people are selling these next to nothing when the transmission goes out because most shops are asking about $3000-$4000 just to rebuild it and if I can learn how to rebuild them I can get some that are in excellent shape next to nothing. So thank you so much and God bless you and your family and friends and don’t forget Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is coming back to this earth very soon you can actually see the pre-tribulation times happening all around the world. So my brother please repent so one day you and I can meet in heaven and talk about transmission repairs thank you once again and stay safe we live in a crazy world now and it’s going to get a lot worse. God loves you Jesus loves you and my brother I love you as my brother take care see you soon ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸

    Sir, thank you for your willingness to share with us the problems that most affect our transmissions. You have saved me a lot of expense. My mind was spinning in circles wondering why I was having the problem that you spoke about. My problem is number "3" You expressed all three symptoms exactly as they have occurred in my Astro Van Transmission. Mine is the TCC. I received all the three issues as described. I changed out all the kick-down solenoids anyway. Problem still there. Then I found your video. PROBLEM SOLVED. Thanks greatly. Sincerely, Kerry Smythe

    • @juandoe195
      @juandoe195 Před 5 lety +1

      I have a 93 astro van was yours doing a hard shift from 1-2? I also replaced the solenoids, 1-2 and EPC even the TPS sensor and Servo. Did yours also have a little bit of slippage? I'm going to try this soon, BUT before I do that wanted to ask that when you removed the valve body did any of those track balls off? I've hard some of those have to be in a specific area. I'm scared if I drop it that I'm not gonna be able to catch one of them and not know where to put them. I heard there's like 8 of them. Let me know when you get a chance.

    • @ProBuffMaintenance
      @ProBuffMaintenance Před 5 lety

      Make sure you have a big pan underneath to catch any falling parts along with the fluid. Yes, there are usually 7 check balls contained in the part of the valve body you remove and another one once you take the separator plate off. (There are also one or two "captured" in the case side of the body although they shouldn't fall out - usually) Although you don't have to remove the valve body separator plate to do the TCC valve in the valve body, I highly recommend doing it because you will likely find some of the check balls have worn into the plate. I recommend replacing the plate and gaskets but make sure you get the specific plate for your model of 4L60e - plates for '93 are different than for other years. Make sure you know where the checkballs go when you put it back together! Use some assembly goo to keep them in place when you re-assemble. Watch lots of videos on this rebuild before you attempt it! Also look for Hiram Gutierrez's Automatic Transmission CZcams channel for another great teacher.

      I have a 4l60e that shifts fine when it's cold but after 10 or so minutes when I leave from a stoplight, it will be stuck in 3rd, so I try to put it in 1st & shift through manually after stopping again, but can only get 2nd then 3rd again, no fourth gear at all. Either way, it's the same each time, all 4 gears work fine until it has a few miles on it. It was just rebuilt last summer, at least that's what I thought I was paying for.

    The TCC spring solution only works model years96-99. There is a kit made by Fitzall for the later year models up to '04 PN A74741QA, for 05 and up A74741CB. IMO this is a better solution than the reamer because it is a permanent fix. I've been using it in my Yukon now for a couple of years. The torque converter is either on or off. I can see it work because I know what is happening. Other people driving or riding in the car can't tell the difference. The other advantage is it keeps the transmission cooler, no partial apply (a dumb idea to begin with IMO. I mean if it was a standard trans would you be slipping the clutch?) Nope, either your foot is on the clutch or off, anything else would be considered abuse. Heat is a major contributor to trans failure.

    4L60E is a very durable transmission as far a the cost to repair, rebuild vs how many applications it's used in. On average I overhaul 3-4 a week and have for a dozen or so years. Quickest I've assembled one once it's been properly hot tanked and cleaned is 1 hour 3 minute that's including all clutch pistons including the Low Reverse.

    I have a question. I have a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 series truck with 235,000 mi on the original engine and transmission. Like a dummy I thought I would change the transmission fluid and do my truck a favor. prior to changing the fluid, the truck/transmission shifted flawlessly but, the fluid clearly needed changing, NOW my transmission slips in first gear and slips upon shifting in all gears. Is does this mean my transmission is FRIED or can I adjust something to bring it back to its previous condition?. This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that has an automatic transmission and are not familiar whatsoever with these transmissions.

    • @frenchfrysz6695
      @frenchfrysz6695 Před 6 lety +3

      removing the old trans fluid, which probably had fine particulates in it, gave the worn clutches enough friction to function. adding the new transmission fluid (which has detergents and such) probably scrubbed your worn clutches clean, thus making them start to slip. i think thats what causes it, im not a mechanic man lol and probably why its important to change the fluid and filter like every 30-40k miles to make sure all the components wear correctly with well performing fluid thats not burnt up or has any contamination.... or never do it and wait until it needs to be serviced/rebuilt lol

    Awesome video. I've seen each problem in real life. One of my favourite transmissions to work on being a Chevy mechanic of that era.

    WOW! That video was not only incredibly informative, but also the best video as far as none of the NONSENSE the others put in theirs. Thank you so much for both!
    99% of these videos people think they’re a successful comic. Everyone seems to think we want to hear them talk. And the music! Not only don’t we want music, but we definitely don’t want music so loud we can’t hear the actual content.
    Then there’s the 45 minute introduction. All I can say is dousche-bag to that!
