  • Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) -- these magnificent birds migrate south from their frigid tundra homes when prey populations plunge, literally - lemmings make up a large part of the snowy owl's diet. The Boundary Bay area of Delta, B.C. provides a great refuge for the owls to rest and hunt for small rodents. Bird watchers can catch a glimpse of the rare snowy owls by simply strolling along the Boundary Bay dykes. If you plan on visiting the Boundary Bay area in order to view the parliament of owls, please be respectful of the owls and keep your distance.
Footage captured with a Canon 5DmkII sporting a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L and mkII 2x Extender, also helping out was a Panasonic AF100 rocking a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 Nikon Mount.
For those residing in the Midwest please take a second to read an important US Fish & Wildlife alert regarding younger and potentially emaciated snowy owls. www.fws.gov/mid...

Snowy owls really are a remarkable species. Since capturing this footage, I've been fortunate to document them in the arctic - where they nest and raise young. I only hope that as the arctic rapidly warms and its ecosystem change - species like the snowy owl are able to adapt and survive 😃
