Hey Alissa. I wouldn't recommend tape as a flow reducer, as it can contain chemicals you do not want in the water. I suggest you cut a plastic water bottle in half (without the label/glue) to size of the filter. You can do a CZcams search on how to make one- I believe searching "DIY betta filter flow reducer" should recommend great videos. This method is much better, cheap, and lasts long! Where as tape will eventually lose its stick/grip, will not last as long, and contains chemicals.
@@Drupp12 right at the flow point in the back. I guess you can say the "lip" of the filter. I also have some rocks in there, also you can get one of those black or white sponges and shape it to fit
Janaya Huffman You have yo assemble the tank yourselves (as most tanks do). It comes in parts, but to “secure” it a bit more, they glued the parts to the tank. I was a bit annoyed but eventually peeled the glue off. I’m not sure if other tanks do this, but this one does. I bought the 5 gallon tank.
when you replace the cartridge you get rid of the bacteria and will have to restart the cycling process. You clean it in aquarium water from the water change every week and only replace it when it is breaking.
Abbi Martin majority is in the filter and can mess things up, you should take the filter media out of the cardridge and put it next to the new cardridge in the filter.
I usually replace the media with a sponge, cut the sponge in half (vertically) then every time you need to clean the filter, clean the sponge you didnt clean last time.
I just bought this exact tank on sale at petsmart for $19.99. I upgraded from a 2.5 gallon. This is a nice little tank/set up. Also, that thermoter was crazy "hot" when i put it in too but after a day it went to normal.
No hate but to anyone who is wanting a betta its best to fully cycle the tank before getting the fish. This can take from 4 weeks or longer and gives good bacteria time to grow in the filter/gravel etc which will create a much healthier environment for your fish. There is not much good bacteria in water from an established tank but as you already bought the fish its better than nothing! I would have suggested to get some bio balls or some kind of media and put it in Klauss tank for a month or so and then put it into the new tank as that would mean that the new tank is already cycled and ready to go as the bacteria is in the filter ☺️ gorgeous fish though!
Danielle Delaney there’s absolutely no need for bashing ☺️ I just added that in case any new fish owners weren’t aware of the whole cycling process (I know I wasn’t when I first thought about getting my Kylo) it can be quite the information overload when first starting out 😂 but im so glad you clarified you added cycled media to the new tank Alyssa!
katfishd I only cycled my tanks for 1 week :o I'm glad my fish are okay!. I used my old filter cartridge and used gravel though, that probably played a part in my luck.
Callie Desbiens old filter as in it was in another tank with water still or it was dried? If dried the bacteria would have died off cause it would have had no food source from the waste (which is what good bacteria feed on)
katfishd it was from a filled, previously cycled, healthy aquarium lol. If I let them dry up, or when they get really gross I just go buy new ones cause they're so cheap.
If you have an established aquarium, you can have a cycled tank within a day. I setup a 5 gallon for my betta and put her in the next day because I got a handful of filter floss media that hadn't been cleaned in about 2 months. I tested the water the next day and the parameters were on point- and have been to this day. It really all depends on how much media you can provide for the size tank to speed up the process, and how many fish you are adding to the aquarium. Too many fish (even with cycled media) and not enough cycled media for the amount of fish, can result in death of the fish, etc. as the bacteria are having difficulty removing the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrite in a sufficient matter of time.
My friend gave me her betta since she was moving that poor thing lived in a 0.5 gallon bowl I have since then moved him into a 50 gallon aquarium with some mystery snails and live plants I am so glad he is happier now
Hi! I love your tank setup! I’m looking into getting this exact tank and I was wondering if you’ve ever had any issues with leaking or cracking? I’ve never really had a glass tank before considering I’ve only owned acrylics. Thank you!!
My thermometer has been in the tank (same thermometer and tank) and it started at eighty and has only gone down a centimeter in 48 hours. Another thing I got the same gravel and I just cut the top pit water and use the net you got to get the water out and keep the rocks then I pour it in is that bad?
"'owners' not experienced owners but..." OK what's wrong with a top fin tank that magically makes you not a good fish owner exactly? Just because it's not as insanely expensive as a Fluval doesn't mean it's a bad tank
Either way, they’re all just panes of glass designed to hold water and fish. A $50 and a $150 tank use the same materials or very similar. Its the tech thats used which can bump the price up. Anyway, most of the time you are paying for the name.
She literally tried to clear things up in the comments...oh dear. And if she thought she was a bad fish owner by getting it I don't think she would even get it
I have this tank and love it! I recommend an aquarium sponge rather than a dish sponge (there are no bubbles). just put the sponge where the output goes and rubber band it on and it works fine!
I have that exact tank. I put a suction cup soap holder under the filter so it goes slower when it starts to over flow. You can put some stones and beads in the soap holder so it looks pretty. I bought my soap holder off of amazon.
Hi, Nerite snail eggs will not hatch in freshwater, it has to be brackish water. So in theory, you could have many snails in one freshwater tank and they will not multiply. However it's a great "excuse" to buy another tank and fish so I can't argue with that, lol.
I have this tank & it has been terrific. I've had it for almost a year now. The thermometer is very accurate within 2 degrees. It just took some time for it to actually read. My experience with their heaters however has not been good. I bought their smallest one made for tanks under 3 gallons & it heats the tank up to 90+ degrees even in a 5 gallon bucket test. I use it in the coldest part of winter to keep my daughter's 10 gallon tank warm (75-78) when the room temp is around 65.
I'm not sure what type of snail she has, but pretty much any snail that is big enough that the betta won't attack or eat it is fine! Mystery snails (which are usually apple snails) are pretty common and work well, and have a lot of variety. I would stay away from assassin snails though, on account of them having a diet of only other snails. Hope I could help! :D
so just wanted to say that this video has been quite helpful with my betta I won at a carnival. I have the same tank and same setup sans the decorations being diffrent. do you put the tape right on the flowing area of the filter?
i literally have the same tank and the same plants that you have and i almost guy the little wood log with the heart. I did have a batta in the tank but but it died 😭. oh and your not the only one who had a problem with the glue on the side of the tank I was so hard to get off😩
the beneficial bacteria lives on the gravel, filter, and surfaces of the tank, not the water itself. but there is an api product that cycles the tank within days and helps your fish as your tank cycles, api quick start. its better than doing a 4 week long natural tank cycling. test your tank with that api kit you have every day if ur going to have a fish in there, he may suffer with the ammonia and nitrite spikes
It helps with the cycle, not instant cycle. I know this for a fact after setting up multiple aquariums. 4 this year alone. There are methods for an instant cycle, but you need a well established aquarium to pull media from.

As its months later how do you feel about this tank?! Im looking to start a betta tank (with one for now) and im looking around for a good start tank/kit?!
What do you mean by not experienced betta owners? Not being mean I'm truly curious. I am an experienced betta keeper and I have the top fin tanks and I love them. Yes I modified the but it's a good little tank. Not tying to start anything.
I just bought this tank today and was wondering how you plug in the light? I didn't realize I needed a special adapter? Does anyone know what kind of adapter I need for the weird light outlet?
I have the same fish tank! I ended up using a different filter that was quieter, but overall I really like mine. I’ve been using it for two years and no problems!
I have the exact same tank and gravel! To slow the flow on the filter, which was too strong for my betta fish as well, I cut a plastic bottle and wrapped it underneath and over the filter where the water flows out... that did the trick really well without completely cutting off the flow.
Does your top fin filter put off a lot of bubbles? Also can you explain more how you slowed down the flow, I’m unsure where exactly you added the tape?
I have the same tank and filter, and I feel like my fish really gets pushed around by the filter. I'm new to keeping fish. It seems like he gets pushed away by the water flow, but sucked towards the part that pulls in the water. Help! I might try the tape trick, will that also lessen the suction part as well?
Alyssa Nicole I’ve had a snail that caught onto a plant I bought reproduced but we just enjoyed watching them grow. However, some of the bottom feeders found them and thought they would make a good snack. So the original snail had grown very quickly and wasn’t bothered by the pakistani loaches at all. In the end the snail died naturally. Btw, I have a tropical tank.
Thanks! I couldn’t figure out how to start the filter, flowing process! However, there is a close and open dial on the top of the filter to slow down or speed up the flow of water.
i don’t believe that you really did put in cycled media, for the pure fact that you said in the video that the water holds the cycle and not the media. to add cycled media to that filter you would’ve had to remove some type of extra pad, bio balls etc you had in your other filter which i doubt you had considering you don’t even really know what a cycled is. i mean, cmon, you told one commenter to replace their filter pad which you should never do... that is throwing away the whole cycle. you just rinse the filter pad in removed tank water every once in a while. you even said you didn’t know if the thermometer went inside or outside the tank... if you do stuff like this, especially making videos which will misinform so many people, own up to your mistakes instead of lying about them. all of us who are really into the fish keep hobby can see the mistakes and lies right out your ass. you even said “inexperienced betta owners” typically buy those tanks... and that’s what we all see you as. you cannot call yourself a seasoned betta owner, please stop misinforming people. there’s already enough people who abuse bettas and keep them in horrible conditions.
jakklex d lmao you clearly don’t know anything abt fish keeping. just because she’s doing things slightly better than the people who keep bettas in bowls doesn’t mean she’s still doing it right. why not go the extra mile to make sure you’re doing it right and literally just do a couple minutes of research??? it doesn’t excuse letting fish get fin rot which she’s said she has, fin rot is caused by bad water quality. You know what causes bad water quality? Uncycled filters and tanks, not enough or correct water changes, and the plants she lets die in her aquariums because she won’t take a couple minutes to research how to have plants in an tank. If she doesn’t want to properly care for the plants, she’s also going to harm the fish with them dying and decaying causing them to lower the water quality. “so stfu”
I know quite a bit actually... but hun, beating someone up isn't going to help her or her fish. get off your high horse. why don't you try telling her what she needs to correct without jumping down her throat and being a snarky brat. grow up.
Actually you’re completely wrong. The good bacteria does not live in the water, it lives in the filter and on hard hard services not in the actual water so putting old tank water in a new tank does absolutely nothing, you’re putting a fish in an uncycled tank. You should have just taken some filter media from the old tank to the new. Do some better research.
Alyssa Nicole I very much doubt you did that until I said it. What reason could you have to not show it in the video or at least say it so your followers don’t make the same rookie mistake and think the good bacteria lives in the water body? Yeah.. makes no sense. Look I’m not hating on you, you seem pretty nice but my concern when I see people making the common mistake you made is for the fish. Adding tank water does nothing. So you saying “leave it an hour to cycle with this old tank water” is utter rubbish. 🤷🏻♀️
Little red you're wrong. I don't know what science class you took but beneficial bacteria actually is in the water. It floats around in the water till it finds a surface to attach itself to. Adding water from an already cycled tank has the bacteria to support a new set up tank. But it is also a good idea to keep cycled media on hand to add to the process BUT you don't have too. And go smoke a joint or something cuz you have a terrible attitude
MrSpeakerguy44 No it doesn’t my guy. I’m sorry but you’re talking absolute shit. If you simply use that clever tool we have called GOOGLE and type in “the nitrogen cycle” you’ll easily find that 90% if the good bacteria lives in the filter and the rest lives on substrate. It does not “float in the water.” Seriously.
Do you think it would be good to use the water conditioner and the filter together? Also is it good to use water conditioner and the safe start stuff from the same brand?
To answer your first question, yes! Every time you change the water in your tank, if you're using tap water make sure to always condition it! The filter will help the conditioner do its job and vice verse. You should be fine with your products! Hope I could help! :D
I have the 5.5 gallon for my Blonde Delta guppies, and it's a really good tank! It's so interesting to see someone else review the tank use! Because it doesn't have a nighttime light mode, I just have to turn it off at night. Good luck with your tank! :)

So I brought the same one but 20 gallon but my makes noise so how do I stop that?
SHANE DAWSON YASSSS
One day you *will* own a zoo
Oooo that fish in the octopus tank is rather beautiful. That tank is cute too
I have the same tank but the water current from the filter is too powerful for my betta to swim. Should I lower it from the twist thing?
Alyssa Nicole thank you so much I just bought it
When you were talking about Infinity War, when u said "I'm finna be shook" you should've mouth-poped (I see that Shane Dawson shirt ;))
snails will lay eggs in freshwater, but the eggs won't hatch, they will only hatch in brackish or saltwater
Alyssa Nicole I have about 10 nerite snails in my 30 gallon freshwater that have laid hundreds of eggs and I promise not one of them hatched 😊
Celina Chow I had snails in fresh water and they laid eggs. They all hatched and ended up with FREAKING ONE THOUSAND
RaeAnna's Critters where they nerite though
RaeAnna's Critters omgg what did you do?
Alyssa Nicole I’ve had a snail that caught onto a plant I bought reproduced but we just enjoyed watching them grow. However, some of the bottom feeders found them and thought they would make a good snack. So the original snail had grown very quickly and wasn’t bothered by the pakistani loaches at all. In the end the snail died naturally. Btw, I have a tropical tank.
Thanks! I couldn’t figure out how to start the filter, flowing process! However, there is a close and open dial on the top of the filter to slow down or speed up the flow of water.
What pump to change the water did she use?
Is a 5.5 gallon tank a good size for shrimp 🦐
Dan Rocks Vlogs yes it’s plenty for them
I agree
Shane Dawson Fans Unite!!! 🤣
What was that water pump thing called that you used to transfer the water from the cycled tank into the new tank?
Rebecca LaRiviere It’s a siphon.
I had a betta fish before, but I didn’t have a moss ball. This may sound like a stupid question but what do moss balls do exactly?
i don’t believe that you really did put in cycled media, for the pure fact that you said in the video that the water holds the cycle and not the media. to add cycled media to that filter you would’ve had to remove some type of extra pad, bio balls etc you had in your other filter which i doubt you had considering you don’t even really know what a cycled is. i mean, cmon, you told one commenter to replace their filter pad which you should never do... that is throwing away the whole cycle. you just rinse the filter pad in removed tank water every once in a while. you even said you didn’t know if the thermometer went inside or outside the tank... if you do stuff like this, especially making videos which will misinform so many people, own up to your mistakes instead of lying about them. all of us who are really into the fish keep hobby can see the mistakes and lies right out your ass. you even said “inexperienced betta owners” typically buy those tanks... and that’s what we all see you as. you cannot call yourself a seasoned betta owner, please stop misinforming people. there’s already enough people who abuse bettas and keep them in horrible conditions.
Alyssa Nicole they’re right. You’re misinformed and sharing your wrong information.
it’s a hell of a lot better than 99% of people that own betta fish, that’s for sure lmao. she isn’t abusing her animals so stfu
jakklex d lmao you clearly don’t know anything abt fish keeping. just because she’s doing things slightly better than the people who keep bettas in bowls doesn’t mean she’s still doing it right. why not go the extra mile to make sure you’re doing it right and literally just do a couple minutes of research??? it doesn’t excuse letting fish get fin rot which she’s said she has, fin rot is caused by bad water quality. “so stfu”
I know quite a bit actually... but hun, beating someone up isn't going to help her or her fish. get off your high horse. why don't you try telling her what she needs to correct without jumping down her throat and being a snarky brat. grow up.
jakklex d the thing is, i have. people always jumping to conclusions lmao
Alyssa Nicole yeah ok, love. If you say so.
thank you!!
How did you get the glue from the boxes off the glass?
I have the 5.5 gallon for my Blonde Delta guppies, and it's a really good tank! It's so interesting to see someone else review the tank use! Because it doesn't have a nighttime light mode, I just have to turn it off at night. Good luck with your tank! :)
Got this tank for my birthday! So excited to set it up.
How much conditioner? I have the same tank but I’m not sure how much conditioner is safe for my fish
Would this be good for fry? The fry would be about a week old when I would put them in.
I would use a 10 gallon bare bottom tank with a sponge filter.
Ok, I’ll do that, thanks!
Maybe I just saw this but when you said this will be the first time seeing the light in the clip before that did you have the light on???? Just confused
both tanks are beautiful and I love how you named them after the originals ❤️❤️
I was literally gonna say the same. 🥰So adorable and ‘original’ no pun intended lol
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS
Hey,I just wanted to know if you or someone can explain to me about a moss ball
your decor looks great!
I just got the five gallon tank i didnt know what i was doing and ur video was the first i saw (even reading the directions) tht explained i have to physically pour water into the filter first and it works perfectly now n its great thank u SO MUCH me n my betta thank u
my brand new betta got his fins stuck in the filter on this exact tank. just so i don’t kill another fish do you think putting a sponge over the filter will work
Rachel Timmyyy I didn’t get to see the intake filter on this filter but I’d recommend a sponge intake cover to ski over the intake tube
Darline Reynoso i put a sponge over and it’s working great!
You can always buy a sponge filter instead of a power filter. Safer so the find doesn't get stuck
Idk if this counts as cycling a tank but I put extra minnows from my turtle he did not eat and put them in there can I do that
Lmao i literally watched you when stretching my ears and here i am again with my new betta fish 😂❤
WAIIIITTTTT... “Claus” and “Elijah”...... I LOVE the orginalssssskskdjcjdiscjkdn
Love this video (and your shirt)
How did you get the algae growth in your tank? I remember when you set the one tank up with the octopus, and I love how it looks partially covered in algae like that. Plus I know some types of fish will eat the algae.
Where did you put your beta while your tank cycled?
