- hi friends!! this is a very special video that i've been filming for half a year now and it is very near and dear to my heart. as you can see, I GOT A BETTA FISH! i know this video is longer than many of my videos but i just really wanted to share my entire betta journey with you guys from the months of research to finally getting my betta. i don't mean to sound like i'm an expert in fishkeeping by any means and honestly i still consider myself an amateur but i've certainly grown to become a hobbyist in fishkeeping and love learning as much as i can everyday. from the research that i've done, i hope this video can help clear some very well-known myths in betta care and overall, i hope this video is enjoyable! pleaseeee let me know down below if you liked this video and what you thought of it :) if you are in the fishkeeping community as well, definitely comment below! i absolutely love reading all of your guys' comments and i appreciate all of the love and support i've received for the past year. and don't hold back on educating me more on betta care or fishkeeping in general! i love to learn~

For the longest time I thought I wasn’t cut out for fish keeping, but this video put it all so simply together. I think I might adopt a betta this summer now (after lots of research of course)!

I'm definitely saving this video to help with my own research. When I finally have my own space that I feel great enough for a decent size fish tank, I will instantly be able to come back to it. Your like me, I prefer to research and set uo, before our new friend comes home. Same way I did when I first got my llittle Haku. a little mini rex, otter coat bunny. Just two more months before he's successfully a full years old big boy.

aww i completely understand your worries!! i was super worried when i was researching snd getting started too. the best advice i can give you is to have a lot of patience and look for all of the signs of when the cycling starts and when it ends. its a lil daunting at first, but when you get started and get into it, you'll find it pretty easy and worth the wait!! :) lmk if you need any help or have any questions

Great tank! Would like to see an update of how it is going. If you find that the filter outflow is too strong for your betta even on the lowest flow rate you can put a little sponge over it to help!
Where did you get your plants from for a reasonable price? I find duckweed to be pricy with the shipping
thanks!! i'll definitely post an update sometime soon :) and yeahh i've actually thought about doing that because it cannn get a lil strong sometimes for my lil guy but at the same time it seems like he enjoys challenging himself and swimming towards it every once in a while for fun xD
oh shoot i completely forgot to mention this in my description, i actually got my live plants from my local fish store bc i found shipping prices to be too high! my LFS sold the duckweed for 25 cents a spoonful if i remember correctly!

Amazing amazing video, well done!! i have this tank for one of my bettas, LOVE this tank! except that i had to personal customized the lid and change the outlet intake to reduce the flow.. Can I ask exactly what you did to reduce the flow ? I just ordered this as an update for my one single Betta and mystery snail. I don’t want this filter blowing her all over the place but I’m not sure exactly what steps i need to take to stop that.

The problem with the first heater is most likely that it was in a vertical position. That type of heater should be at a 45 degree angle or the thermostat switches off as the hot water from the element rises. Hope this helps others.

The betta water was brown from tannins. Hope you added botanicals to his tank for the benefits of tannins.

Do you have calcium deposits around the tank area? I don't have a lid on my tank and there's so much grime on my table. Does this tank have this issue?
I puchased this same tank for a beta and at the lowest flow setting, the water is moving a lot more than in your final tank view. Did you do something to slow down the water? I see someone commented that you can add a sponge... is this just a normal kitchen sponge? I've also seen someone poke holes in the tube. Just wondering if you did anything?
Would you say I need a gravel cleaner if I’m planning to use sand? Im wondering how I clean it now
I’ve got a planted tank with sand so I can answer this for you if you haven’t found the answer already! You’ll still need to vacuum up detritus from the sand, just hover above it and swirl the vac around gently to kick up things on the bottom. This is less effective for fine grained sand like the one in the video since it also tends to kick up the sand, I’ve got some heavier grained sand in my tanks so this method works extremely well.
