  • This is the basics on setting up a fish tank. Its a 10 gallon with both mechanical and sponge filtration. I also show how to treat city water and how to speed up the growth of beneficial bacteria.

      Dave L if you use city water then u will need to add conditioner for sure every time. I only use stress when adding to new tank. I add quick start when cleaning a sponge filter or other filter media to help seed new bacteria. I never clean/change all my filter media at once,I rotate to make sure there is always enough bacteria

But it's length was only as long as 10 gal. Do I need to find a bigger table or the table that I currently using was enough? Thank You

    When using quick start should I add ammonia than the quick start? So it can break that down and ultimately start the process, I have six shrimp on the way and my tank has not cycled yet so I need the best possible way to have it cuddled by the time they get here.

    • @electricblueaquariums4821

      Foreign_ Swagger It depends on how quickly they are coming. If the ammonia is at 0 and nitrite is low when yr shrimp arrive that’d be ideal

    Very informative video. Got a 10 gl tank with all the setup, added conditioner and quick start. After 24 hours took the sample to store and they said water is fine. Got 2 glow fish and they died in few hours. Do I need to cycle the water more? Like that ammonia nitrite and nitrate thing?

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  Před 3 lety +4

      I’m assuming that if they died that quick it’s not from ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites. How long was your trip from the fish store? How long did you float the bag before adding your fish to your tank? And what temp is your tank at? Also what did the fish look like before they died… any white spots, bloated stomach or ripped up fins, anything that would indicate they are not healthy?

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  Před 3 lety +1

      Transferring your cycled bio media and substrate brings a large amount of beneficial bacteria into the new tank which should allow u to skip the cycling process. Just add fish. As long as your not going from a 10 gal to 55 gal fully stocked with fish lol

    I have a couple established tanks but I have to move my fish to a new house does bringing the water from the old tank help also how long should I wait to put the fish in I have put quick start in the tank already

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  Před 4 lety +1

      So establishing a tank deals with the nitrogen cycle and growing beneficial bacteria. I would 1st ask what kind of filter u have on the current tank and suggest moving all the filter media to the new tank. That filter media will have much more beneficial bacteria then the water. Actually the water brings very little bacteria with it.That current filter will bring enough of the beneficial bacteria with and your tank will pretty much be cycled. Then make sure the new tank has been dechlorinated and adding quick start will help grow good bacteria on any surface that doesnt have it. If I can I will make a video soon about cycled media and moving it to a new tank. Any other questions please ask and I'll try to respond as quickly as possible. Thanks!
