Yes, she used plastic containers. BUT the point of going zero waste is to use what you have. No point in going out and buying fancy glass containers when you have already previously bought perfectly good ones. USE WHAT YOU HAVE!

@Amber Crawley my sister and I both had glass 'cupanion' bottles which we both smashed on the same day, I am now thinking it'd be wiser to have good quality plastic reusable bottle as it wouldn't break first time it gets dropped. Plastic is a smart material we just aren't smart about using it.

This was the first helpful zero waste video, because you actually go to shops that I have where I live and that are affordable. Because, let's face it, zero waste shops are kinda boogie.

Hey, if that shampoo requires THAT little each use for as much hair as you have, then it may very well be worth that price!
Lush advertises that one of their shampoo bars lasts over 50 washes or
3 average sized containers of shampoo (depending on how you use when you wash, how thick your hair is, and how much accidentally gets washed down the drain). Overall, I think it’s completely worth it and it makes traveling so incredibly easy.
I've been using their shampoo bars for the past 4 years and one bar lasts me around 4-6 months (I wash my hair every 2-3days), depending on the length of my hair. It's definitely worth the price imo

It's very expensive but here in Germany the drugstore-chain "DM" sells a bar called "Foamie" for half the price and I used it like 10 times allready and I still have enough left for maybe 5 more hairwash or whatever. Its really good tho, but I guess I use a small bit to much product cause the one of Foamie makes a hell lot of foam and first you feel like nothing comes off but when really wet you make foam like crazy ... hm

There’s a thrift shop near me where it sells trendy stuff and it’s only tag is that security detected one that they reuse. They also use biodegradable bags. 👌 it’s also a bargain. And we all LOVE a bargain.

She also could have used the tooth brush she already had, it's not like we throw away tooth brushes as soon as we use them. Same with the toothpaste, depending on the size of the tube it could last a while and not be considered waste for months.

Here in México we have "mercados" they are kinda like farmers markets, but they bring fruits and veggies from all over the country, which is great cuz you have lots of variety and most of the time they are cheaper than big supermarkets, and the veggies and fruits are healthier :) Also there is no plastic in them!

Lush shampoo bars are the best! Great for travelling & so so nice for your hair! You might notice that it'll stick in the tin a bit so I highly recommend keeping it on the lid near a window, and only put it properly in the tin when you travel!!

A good thing about lush (well in my city) when you use up five containers you can bring them back and they will take them and reuse them! you just need to bring it back clean and you will also get rewarded with a new face mask for bringing it back! this is all from memory so I could be wrong about the number of containers or if you get a face mask or something else!
If you bring back 5 full size containers you get a face mask :)
This is available in every lush store
I believe they recycle the pots instead of reusing them , they chop the pots they recieve up and then melt them down to make new pots, so still use energy, but still better than most other places.

If anyone is interested in zero waste make up removers I highly recommend face halos, they only require machine washing which I do like once every 4 times I use them (I don’t wear make up daily) and I just rinse w soap when not machine washing. They remove my make up better than wipes
I believe that the idea of zero waste permits you to get plastic, only you have to recycle it. So if you get something wrapped up in plastic, just make sure is in a recyclable/biodegradable. The same goes for glass, paper, and even tetra pack. And in the end your jar should only have the things you can't recycle, not everything single item of plastic/paper you got.
Recycling plastic is not a solution. Not all plastics are recyclable and when they are, their longevity is extremely short and the recycling costs / amount of CO2 produced is worse than the initial production.
Whereas aluminium or paper for example are infinitely recyclable and recycling them is super energy efficient.

@@mtkhalife lots of people think that overall clingfilm is better than aluminium foil because electrolysis takes so much energy
biodegradable plastic is the worst.. it doesn't degrade in the same time other bio products will, which means it will still end up with the rest of the plastic and will lower the total plastic quality (due to the different melting points)

a tip for anyone thinking of doing this - try and find the bamboo toothbrush in the supermarket, don't order it online as that's bad for the environment in itself and it would probably arrive in plastic packaging.

When I’m older I’m going to try going 0 waste ( I can’t really do it now because my mom will hate me if I said btw can you not get anything with plastic)
It can be very difficult to go zero waste when dependant on parents, but there are loads of bits and bobs you can do in the meantime- properly rinsing and sorting your recycling can be a big help, doing a clean up of a beach or forest on a regular basis, visiting a farmers market as often as possible, etc.

I hate it so much when British or American people try to pronounce German brands like "Volkswagen" sounds like "Volks" sounds like "fault" with a K instead of a T and "Wagen" like "Bandwagon" without the band....
