Instead of trying to overcome in my own strength (which didn’t work), I had to ask God for help trusting him and letting the person go into his care. The second was to wait for my heart to heal. I wanted to feel better right away and to stop thinking about him immediately, but I wasn’t trusting God molding me as I worked through the feelings. There were things God wanted me to learn as I dealt with my emotions, to run to him every time I started to get distracted by the person’s image. I had to learn to be patient with the Lord and with myself. Eventually, though I thought it impossible, God helped me truly move on and I stopped thinking about the person so much. I never stopped caring about the person as a brother in Christ, but he became God’s concern instead of my own. I’d love to hear Mark’s thoughts on this, too.

I’m in a loving relationship with my partner. But prior to him. My previous relationship I was raped. And unfortunately I’m haunted by those horrendus memories. And My partner has been helping me through Christ to recover and heal. I’m glad I saw this. He’s told me that I need to let go of that shame and guilt I am so dragged by. But also hearing it from a stranger helps make it even more impacting.
I really needed freedom from thinking on this girl all the time and just asking God in my heart for freedom from the confusion I was having about her and I immediately opened CZcams and saw this. Thank you for listening to God and sharing this timely word!

I've had similar thoughts about how and when someone is stuck in your head. Great video. For years, there was only one gal I was truly interested in, and I've finally managed to rid myself of thinking of her on a daily routine. God's sovereignty is amazing, but He used that problem for good when I started talking to this gal's sister via E-mail back in the early 2000s. Didn't end up with either of them, but what I got was a long distance accountability partner, and we pray for each other on a regular basis.

This honesty and deeply reminds me of a one time encounter I had with a woman I met and I never saw her since then. She was an artistic dancer and that top it off I fell in love with her who she was a person…it’s been 3 years and been working on myself since then and been praying to God that I’ll see her or someone like her will come into my life
I hope one day you get a chance with her. All you can really do is continue working on yourself and praying that God grants his blessing so she comes back into your life.

This is what I used to do. Now, I am only focused on Jesus and my daily walk shows it in action. Will always be an romantic but Jesus is my one and only true love. The woman that God has for me has to be as dedicated to Jesus as I am.
Before my workplace crush left, I dreamt about it 5 weeks before it happened, was this from the Lord, or just my subconscious? The dream was so lucid, I knew it was going to happen, it was like the Lord was preparing me.

Their voice takes on a sinister character after you've been mistreated and recall their once kind words. "He restores my soul" is a promise if we trust in God to complete His work in us. Obsessive thinking. But roots are so much different. You finally get to understand your inner world and why this is happening. Sometimes is abandonment trauma, hurt inner child, or your habit fall for someone you can not have. But on the other hand if it never happened to you before, maybe is love? Who knows. Needed this video. Ended a toxic, sexually abusive relationship last July and images of the person, and their name just flash across my mind. It has been bothering me a lot. I think I idolized the person while in the relationship, like I'd just be thinking of them all the time. Also, the sin I committed in the relationship is haunting.

He just died. We had a difficult relationship & it definitely didn’t honor God but I can’t stop thinking about him. I feel like I’m dwelling on it but I can’t help it.
All 4 definitely relate. I pray to God now to release me from imaginative thoughts. What I mean by that is I think a lot and sometimes my daydreaming leads to creating scenarios in my head. I'm praying to detach from this way of thinking. Wishful thinking is great but not creating a false reality. Additionally, sometimes it gets me depressed because what I dream about and what I have in reality isn't true. So now when I start doing this, I say things such as, "I won't fall for the enemy's attack" or "Get behind me. I won't let you consume me ". I also pray simple prayers to God such as kingdom advancement prayers and just praising God in general. This has helped me a lot to keep away the day dreaming. I pray to God to keep my mind in the present moment and to not concern myself with the past and future. In regards to Point 4, we definitely have unfinished business. But I have also prayed to God and I have told God that I accept wholeheartedly if I never see this person again and if he we never get that closure. Because God revealed to me before this person can apologize to anyone, he has to first rebuild his relationship with Jehovah God. So I do my work, pray, and pray for his healing, but I am at the same time emotionally uninvesting from this person and trying my best to remove every image of him and his family etched in my mind.

I have intrusive thoughts of this guy and I am trying to change my mental patterns. I talked with my pastoral counselor about this and he said it’s rooted in my insecurity about not feeling good enough. They come and go when I am with my fiancé, and have used to cause me panic attacks when they would come. My fiancé knows my struggle with it and has helped me through it. Recently, any time these thoughts would come when I’m with my fiancé, it causes distress and fear spikes within me. It’s like I feel like trying to be a perfectionist about it but also I am trying to change my mental patterns to let it go and to trust in God. Heck there are even times when I trying about God’s word and truth and meditate on what Jesus has done and that causes distress, which I don’t get and understand. I pray to God and confess my sins for forgiveness and the cycle repeats, I sometimes feel stuck and trapped. Any thoughts of how to overcome this? Am I doing something wrong?

I know this video is 2 years old but I think this worth saying. Almost 10 years ago now I went on a family vacation. My sister wanted to go to the pool so I went with her. I was in my early 20s and my sister is 7 years younger than me. There was a girl at the pool a little younger than my sister playing by herself. Naturally, my sister and I jump in and start playing with her. The girl told us her older sister was supposed to be down there but was too busy talking to her new boyfriend on the phone. Eventually we hear a voice call the girl's name. I looked up and saw the most beautiful woman that was about my age that I had ever seen, even to this day. She took one look at me and bolted back to the room. I never saw her again. I went years without even thinking about it, but then randomly her image pops into my head as clear as the day it happened.
I have had someone on my mind and have been asking God for clarity. We were never in a relationship we have met though. This video at point 4 was helpful. Thank you 😊

Right after I started working at my new job, 4 months later my father passed away, and my friend, gave me comfort, and said that " I am always thinking about you". Now I understand why she said, what she said to me. Cause ever since then, I've been thinking alot about her as well.

Pastor Mark, thanks for sharing this. i know of someone who is experiencing this at the moment and he is always asking me about her. this annoys me to a great deal as he is married/separated and says that he is not interested in her romantically but always gives me some sort of excuse to keep asking me about her. i told him to stop being obsessed and get himself busy with something else instead of thinking of her all the time.

This vid title made me laugh. I’m pretty sure my ongoing admiration for Johnny Depp is my own doing. 😂😂 But right. To my credit, it’s not really obsessive. Lol. I’ve been there tho and it’s awful. Some toxic people want you that addicted to them and idolizing them quite intentionally (well narcissists, of course. 🤮 They live and die to be the king or queen of someone else’s mind). Also anything that shoots up like a supernova will eventually crash down pretty hard. Mostly tho imo it’s a trauma bond. Addictions work the same way as well tho. Recovering addicts and alcoholics will also often report having dreams about the drugs or drink...Bcuz it’s so often been their “savior.”
the timing is perfect again! ))) I had a dream today about a guy I used to like, I wasn't thinking much about him recently but after dreaming about him I thought about him a lot throughout the day. So I have made a choice in someway to think about him. Maybe I should stop it, or maybe I should make a step and invite him for a meeting. Don't know what is right, leave it for time to decide.
I know this question has nothing to do with the video but I wanted to know whenever we ask God a question & we ask him to give us peace such as calming our hearts & clearing our minds to hear him clearly whether the answer is yes or no. As a result of receiving peace from God would that be our heartbeats calming down such as not beating rapidly or something else?
I would not equate a feeling with God's yes or no. But certainly we will need peace to hear him clearly. Sure, heartbeat would be some peace but I wouldn't over think it. You will know you are at peace when you feel it. Not being anxious is key to hearing God. Philippians 4 is helpful.
I am dealing with this exactly right now, but the problem is i don´t want to date that sister specifically, she talked to me years ago when i ended my previous relationship to help me, and she is kinda stuck in my head without me wanting it, i am not attracted to her physically nor mentally, but at the same time i can´t remove her "presence" even when asking God to do so, i told her i am not interested my I suspect she still likes me, i am kinda scared God might be "forcing" me into chosing her, does anyone have any ideias in how to deal with this?
God won't force you to marry someone you don't want to because marriage is an option for those who want it, not a command for all Christians. You may be thinking about her because she's the last person you had a romantic interaction with? Or you are just worrying God would make you marry her so you are thinking about this, but God wouldn't do that because again it's an option. Also, he wouldn't want his daughter with someone who didn't want to be there :) God bless!
I've experienced that with different guys... And would feel like God was making me observe them. But over time I concluded it was just obsessive, fear based thinking that I simply reject and try not to take seriously.

Since I became an adult, the attraction to that type has intensified, but I have never met this person in real life. I've had dreams about this one particular guy, I've never met in person, I've prayed for this person in real life for over 10 years and still not met him yet. What does it even mean??
May be that God wants you to know that your plan is not as grand as God's plan for you. As you wrote that you already prayed about this for 10 years, I would say may be it is best to submit it into the safe hands of Jesus and trust Him to send you the one that He has in plan for you. He likes to hear when you say, not my will but yours be done. God bless you, He has the best for you!

Needed this video. Ended a toxic, sexually abusive relationship last July and images of the person, and their name just flash across my mind. It has been bothering me a lot. I think I idolized the person while in the relationship, like I'd just be thinking of them all the time. Also, the sin I committed in the relationship is haunting.

He just died. We had a difficult relationship & it definitely didn’t honor God but I can’t stop thinking about him. I feel like I’m dwelling on it but I can’t help it.

All 4 definitely relate. I pray to God now to release me from imaginative thoughts. What I mean by that is I think a lot and sometimes my daydreaming leads to creating scenarios in my head. I'm praying to detach from this way of thinking. Wishful thinking is great but not creating a false reality. Additionally, sometimes it gets me depressed because what I dream about and what I have in reality isn't true. So now when I start doing this, I say things such as, "I won't fall for the enemy's attack" or "Get behind me. I won't let you consume me ". I also pray simple prayers to God such as kingdom advancement prayers and just praising God in general. This has helped me a lot to keep away the day dreaming. I pray to God to keep my mind in the present moment and to not concern myself with the past and future. In regards to Point 4, we definitely have unfinished business. But I have also prayed to God and I have told God that I accept wholeheartedly if I never see this person again and if he we never get that closure. Because God revealed to me before this person can apologize to anyone, he has to first rebuild his relationship with Jehovah God. So I do my work, pray, and pray for his healing, but I am at the same time emotionally uninvesting from this person and trying my best to remove every image of him and his family etched in my mind.
You shall watch "I caught a thought" by pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church. The abundance of our heart and mind really make a difference in our life. What you feed, will grow!

I have intrusive thoughts of this guy and I am trying to change my mental patterns. I talked with my pastoral counselor about this and he said it’s rooted in my insecurity about not feeling good enough. They come and go when I am with my fiancé, and have used to cause me panic attacks when they would come. My fiancé knows my struggle with it and has helped me through it. Recently, any time these thoughts would come when I’m with my fiancé, it causes distress and fear spikes within me. It’s like I feel like trying to be a perfectionist about it but also I am trying to change my mental patterns to let it go and to trust in God. Heck there are even times when I trying about God’s word and truth and meditate on what Jesus has done and that causes distress, which I don’t get and understand. I pray to God and confess my sins for forgiveness and the cycle repeats, I sometimes feel stuck and trapped. Any thoughts of how to overcome this? Am I doing something wrong?

I know this video is 2 years old but I think this worth saying. Almost 10 years ago now I went on a family vacation. My sister wanted to go to the pool so I went with her. I was in my early 20s and my sister is 7 years younger than me. There was a girl at the pool a little younger than my sister playing by herself. Naturally, my sister and I jump in and start playing with her. The girl told us her older sister was supposed to be down there but was too busy talking to her new boyfriend on the phone. Eventually we hear a voice call the girl's name. I looked up and saw the most beautiful woman that was about my age that I had ever seen, even to this day. She took one look at me and bolted back to the room. I never saw her again. I went years without even thinking about it, but then randomly her image pops into my head as clear as the day it happened.

Pastor Mark, thanks for sharing this. i know of someone who is experiencing this at the moment and he is always asking me about her. this annoys me to a great deal as he is married/separated and says that he is not interested in her romantically but always gives me some sort of excuse to keep asking me about her. i told him to stop being obsessed and get himself busy with something else instead of thinking of her all the time.

I’ve been there tho and it’s awful. Some toxic people want you that addicted to them and idolizing them quite intentionally (well narcissists, of course. 🤮 They live and die to be the king or queen of someone else’s mind). Also anything that shoots up like a supernova will eventually crash down pretty hard. Mostly tho imo it’s a trauma bond. Addictions work the same way as well tho. Recovering addicts and alcoholics will also often report having dreams about the drugs or drink...Bcuz it’s so often been their “savior.”

the timing is perfect again! ))) I had a dream today about a guy I used to like, I wasn't thinking much about him recently but after dreaming about him I thought about him a lot throughout the day. I know this question has nothing to do with the video but I wanted to know whenever we ask God a question & we ask him to give us peace such as calming our hearts & clearing our minds to hear him clearly whether the answer is yes or no. As a result of receiving peace from God would that be our heartbeats calming down such as not beating rapidly or something else?
I would not equate a feeling with God's yes or no. But certainly we will need peace to hear him clearly. Sure, heartbeat would be some peace but I wouldn't over think it. You will know you are at peace when you feel it. Not being anxious is key to hearing God. Philippians 4 is helpful.
I am dealing with this exactly right now, but the problem is i don´t want to date that sister specifically, she talked to me years ago when i ended my previous relationship to help me, and she is kinda stuck in my head without me wanting it, i am not attracted to her physically nor mentally, but at the same time i can´t remove her "presence" even when asking God to do so, i told her i am not interested my I suspect she still likes me, i am kinda scared God might be "forcing" me into chosing her, does anyone have any ideias in how to deal with this?
God won't force you to marry someone you don't want to because marriage is an option for those who want it, not a command for all Christians. You may be thinking about her because she's the last person you had a romantic interaction with? Or you are just worrying God would make you marry her so you are thinking about this, but God wouldn't do that because again it's an option. Also, he wouldn't want his daughter with someone who didn't want to be there :) God bless!

I don't think she would want to be with someone who is not truly interested in her as a person, I don't think God would force that.
I've experienced that with different guys... And would feel like God was making me observe them. But over time I concluded it was just obsessive, fear based thinking that I simply reject and try not to take seriously.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been visually attracted to a certain type of person. Since I became an adult, the attraction to that type has intensified, but I have never met this person in real life. I've had dreams about this one particular guy, I've never met in person, I've prayed for this person in real life for over 10 years and still not met him yet. What does it even mean??
May be that God wants you to know that your plan is not as grand as God's plan for you. As you wrote that you already prayed about this for 10 years, I would say may be it is best to submit it into the safe hands of Jesus and trust Him to send you the one that He has in plan for you. He likes to hear when you say, not my will but yours be done.
