  • June Leaf was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1929. At a very young age, she decided that she wanted to be an artist but waited to begin until she had grown up and enjoyed her childhood. At fifteen she made her first painting and now, at eighty-eight years old, June is just as inventive and spirited about her work as she was the first time she tapped her brush on the canvas. June is a painter, sculptor, and self-professed tinker whose work is powerful and evocative of the themes that have haunted her throughout her life and continue to resonate in her work to this day. This portrait of the artist is set in June’s Bleecker Street studio in downtown New York City where she lived with her late husband Robert Frank for many years.
