Thank you to Games Workshop for sending an early access copy of the Chaos Knights Army Set to the channel!
For anyone wanting to stay in metric, the 1/4" x 1/16" magnets are more or less 6mm x 1.5mm
I can only fond 6x1 or 6x2. What do you think would work best?
@@CC-nz7mg 2 might be a smidge too large for the slot and require additional removal of plastic while 1 should just need more glue. I'd go for 1
I just tried this out and what I found is that if you double up on the magnets in the upper arm and put an extra below the large one on the gun it holds a lot stronger!
Great to know!!
abominant magnetizing would be cool
Thank you so much. This will be my first knights and this helped so much.
Me too lol, sat here with 2 new boxes and not 1 incling on how to magnetize them so loved this video
Great video! Thank you for posting this
Thanks. The weapon magnetising worked like a charm!
Glad to hear it!
I am getting my box soon too so this was great! Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Lots of fun in that box :)
thanks a bunch for making this, just ordered the magnets so I can magnetize my new wardogs. Was curious what the reasoning behind the poster putty is?
I wasn't ready to glue everything together yet, so I used poster putty.
Nice Guide. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I decided to start my knights big with the plastic Cerastus Knight Lancer.
Definitely magnetizing and using the video when I assemble it.
I know this is an older comment, but I thought the lancer didn’t have any weapon options…
Thanks!
Really liked this tutorial, of all the magnetizing vids I watched this was the most helpful. Is there any way I could talk you into magnetizing the Abominant or at least get some sizes of magnets to use for weapon swaps on the big guy similar to what you did on the War Dog?
very nice advice
Thank you! I'm hoping you and I get to battle each other some day! :D
Very nice. Take my sub!
really good video I'll definitely be following this when I get my box! Do you have any suggestions of which drill to buy?
I bought the GW pin vise - mostly because it was easily accessible, though it works very well. AK interactive and Tamiya also make pin vise drills - haven't tried them, but they are good companies.
Its worth noting that these measurements do NOT work on larger Chaos Knights. These are just for the Armiger/Warhounds. You need different magnets for the larger models
Correct!
This was extremely helpful. Does this also work with the the armigers for the imperial knight?
Yes it does - they are the exact same model - just different heads/weapons.
so what i did is just use 2 of the of the 6x2. i put one in the weapon but cut out the round second on top of it so another magnet can connect to it. then just cut and shave off enought of the arm stump peg to accept the second magnet flush. now its super strong and looks clean as anything. no point using the tiny magnet.
hey ! love your channel one question! what is the "Knife" called that you use for your models to clean the moldlines ? thanks!
Mine is an Exact-o brand "hobby knife" - but lots of companies make them. I think "Exact-o" is one of the originals though - I used them in tech-ed / shop classes in school 30 years ago :)
the only thing i found actualy kind of handy for those 3x2 is to drill out the hole the heads slot into to 3 mil. sink those little magnets into it. then glue the magnet to the heads. BAM switchable heads :P
Awesome tips and you made me much more confident before starting this project! Sub from me!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Are you going to be doing a magnetizd of the arborant model and a painting guide for that?
Not that one, but an imperial version the same size - the Castellan/Valiant
@@WatchItPaintIt Abhorrent is the Questorias class, a Castellan/Valiant is a Dominus class, which translates over to a Tyrant class.
He's asking you if you'll magnetize the Abominant essentially
I never used to magnetize shit. Now I magnet EVERY SINGLE ARM. Glory to the magnets.
haha :D yeah the armiger knights are very easy to do
@@WatchItPaintIt I only own Orks. One day I'll trade my car for a chaos knight. Aus here *tips hat*
Is there a particular reason to not glue in the armor plates?
You can't attach the arms if the shoulder plates are in place - so I had to glue them on after.
Any idea what grade of magnet I need for this?
Rare earth magnets - it needs to be quite strong to hold the weapons in place.
I can't seem to find a decent place to get both size magnets, I can find the 3x2mm but I can't seem to find 1/4"x1/16" or 6x1.5mm in neodymium. Any suggestions?
Maybe look at local game / hobby / craft stores - I got some of mine from a FLGS and the other from Greenstuff World.
@@WatchItPaintIt I guess I'll check it out and hope for the best, thanks!
Do you feel like the weapons rotate too freely with the magnets? I worry it would cause some posing to be a little static
The guns do move around a bit, especially if they aren't perfectly flush with each other. You could fix that with bigger magnets - or (I haven't figured out how to do this yet) putting something textured over the magnet to prevent rotation. I'll be honest - I mostly just pick a cool pose then glue everything in place :D If i'm unsure that i'll like what i've done, i just use a tiny bit of superglue - that way i can just snap the piece off later. Unlike plastic glue it won't melt the pieces together, so you can do that.
@@WatchItPaintIt thanks for the reply! I'm not sure what was going on with my second sentence, I blame lack of sleep haha.
I have some magnets coming in today so I think I'll give it a shot magnetizing them, hopefully they won't wobble too much once I'm done. That's my main concern haha. But thanks for the video! Definitely helped me visualize what I'm going to be doing :)
Did the same. Only issue with this model is if u don't glue all the joints the arms just flap around and they lay limp and it is impossible to pose.
I hear you! I always end up putting a small dab of glue in on the shoulders - I hate they they don't fit a bit tighter - but really, you can't detach them anyhow once the shoulder pads are on, so you might as well glue them.
so how did you do the shoulders?
How do you magnetize the shoulder armor? I didn't - I glued them on.
@@WatchItPaintIt I meant you magnetized the shoulder joints of the arm
@@SWATDRUMMUH Ah! Those don't need magnets - they have interlocking parts - so you can already attach/detach them whenever you want :)
where do I get magnets this size. Im talking about magnets that can hold the weapons. Because I cant find some in the internet and I do not have an hobby modelbuild shop in my hometown
I "think" I got mine from Green Stuff World. They ship to most places.
Can Armigers be magnetized same way?
The exact same way, yes!
Where do you get your magnets
I normally try to get them from hobby shops - mostly Green Stuff World, Meeplemart (in Toronto) or a place called Sunward Hobbies. Failing that, I go to Amazon and google the specific size of the magnets, but on Amazon you usually have to buy them in bulk.
Are the arms naturally moving like that or is that another edit you made?
The arms rotate within the sockets, unless you glue them. (I airways do because I hate loose parts)
@@WatchItPaintIt ah but technically they're intended to be able to rotate right? thanks for the answer :)
@lukewithann7256 yes! You don't need to glue them. The elbows bend as well
@@WatchItPaintIt that's pretty cool and i wish more miniatures had that. I also wish the miniatures would come with the option to swap out weapons built in
Why do you keeo the shoulder pads on with putty?
That was temporary until I was ready to attach the arms. They're glued on now!
Wait... chaos armigers can have chain guns? What is this GW
Yeah I know! Imperial knights are stuck with the same old weapons :P
