Actually, Harmione did take number magic, it's called arithmancy
Except arithmancy is more of telling the future using numbers (as evidenced by the word ending -mancy)
Mancy doesn't mean future. :P Also, using numbers to tell the future is basically number magic hahaha
Technically, -mancy means to perform divination using a specific means (the prefix, so geomancy *should* be telling the future by manipulating or interpreting geography). Divination by definition is foretelling the future/writing prophecy. Yet, you're correct that basically no word ending with mancy actually refers to the ability of telling the future anymore.
For example, geomancy. Geomancy now commonly refers to the manipulation of the land, somewhat like what 'terraform' means. However, geomancy used to mean interpreting the future using signs found in the environment.
Necromancy, similarly, is now commonly used to refer to the ability to revive and control corpses and/or spirits. But, the current dictionary definition of necromancy is *still* about communicating with spirits to predict the future.
Yeah, but that was an elective, not part to the Common Core.
The initial root of -mancy still means to divine or commune with the aforementioned element, but most modern interpretations mainly use that communion as a request for aid, as in a necromancer communing with the souls of the dead to put them in new vessels for him to command, or a pyromancer communing with the element of fire to aid them through the medium of a controllable fireball. Through this frame of reference, spellbooks are instructions for the caster-to-be to learn how to commune with the element at hand and learn the exact phrasing necessary for that element to accept your request (aka spells).
So came back to watch this forgetting that I had before but it was a good watch, I would also like to point out a small interesting tidbit about the elder wand, there are actually two different reasons that Voldemort couldn't properly use the elder wand. The first being of course he wasn't the proper owner, but the second reason has to do with what the wand is made of. If you do some research on wand lore you come to find out that we know both the wood of the wand and the core that was used, that core being Thestral tail hair, even more, interesting is what we learn about trying to use Thestral tail hair as a wand core, "The Thestral tail hair was a powerful and tricky substance that could be mastered only by a witch or wizard capable of facing death" that the other reason Voldemort couldn't use the elder wand he is probably the biggest example of someone who can't accept death.
Ohhh that’s so interesting !!! Thanks for this trivia !
That's interesting but isn't that ironic considering that in the Tales of Beedle the Bard, the brother who obtains the wand intended it to be used to help him avoid death?
@@savidalu193 if i remember correctly, in the tales of the beedle and the bard, death granted the wishes of the three brothers for avoiding him by giving them gifts- gifts that would actually speed up their deaths (kind of like how you need to be specific with a genie otherwise they'll release something malicious on you instead). antioch (the eldest, who you're referring to) wanted to be undefeated so death gave him the elder wand. true to his word, he was undefeated for a bit until someone else recognized the power it held and murdered him for it (so yeah death planned this all from the beginning). but my memory is as good as a grandma with dementia so feel free to correct me!
oooo yes! it also fits nicely with the horcrux theory as Voldemort’s lack of a full soul would also be an indicator of unworthiness as it is prune evidence of his inability to face death
@@savidalu193 I know I’m 6 months late but I believe it was the second brother who wanted to beat death and did so by requesting the ability to revive the dead
Okay, genuine question here; where did the idea that you split your soul precisely in half every time come from? I’m not sure. It never says as much in canon, and in fact the descriptions actually provided by the book use words like “fragment” even while working under the expectation a wizard will only make one, which emphasizes its size is small.
(Additionally, Dumbledore explicitly states that Voldemort’s mind and powers are intact despite the soul splitting, so the idea that he’s weakened by it is broadly bunk, though the instability is the reason he accidentally Horcrux’d Harry, so it’s not wholly nonsense.)
Nah, there was nothing about "half". The definition in the book clearly says, "a fragment of the soul". I think the "half" word came from his understanding of the word, "split".
Also, while Voldemort retained his mind and magical skill, due to his soul being maimed after being ripped apart, thus, he could not possess Harry in the Battle of the Ministry without suffering agony, while Harry could enter the mind of Voldemort and watch a first person view, without suffering any pain, something which Dumbledore confirms to Harry in the afterlife.
However, I do agree with your idea that the "health" of Voldemort is at 1% is just bunk. The SOUL was not making his magic power high or low, his skill was what was increasing his power. The SOUL only factored in his death that there was nothing left for him to hang on in the mortal realm, and he is forced to move into the afterlife.
@Prabhat Soureya But you need your sould to go to the afterlife because your physical body can't visit the afterlife universe.
ya this installment is completely incorrect and poorly researched.

You should consider doing a Book Theory. If you read the books, this was all explained. Could have skipped this one.
TheUnholyOne ok so I've read the books like 10 times each and I'm a huge potterhead but I must have forgotten something so do u mind explaining what exactly is said?
Hari Potter In the book the Professor explained to split your soul again, let alone just once would be monstrous and unforseen things could happen. We already knew that Harry had more of of his soul by the end of Tom's life. The act of making a Horcrux is to divide the soul in half and store it in another object. I kept waiting for the "aha!" moment in the video but I already knew all this.
TheUnholyOne The aha moment was knowing that Harry is more voldy than Voldy. They never state such things in the book.
When you do adaptations of books, you shouldn't need the original book to explain it. Wizard of Oz, The Godfather, the James Bond Films, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Forest Gump and Willy Wonka all don't need you to really go back to the book to explain the film for the most part.
But can't that already be deduced by simply already knowing what TheUnholyOne said? I"m sure most people don't necessarily put it into that perspective but it's not like it's some big revelation. You can gather all that on your own

w8 if Voldemort was 16 during 1943, was he ever drafted into the british army during ww2. were there wizard Nazis?
Howie Cudu possibly but there was a wizard war going on at the same time as ww2
what war was this? given that we know that Voldemort wasn't the wizard roadman that we know him as, I'm assuming this wasn't the war fought by the original order of the phoenix.
Howie Cudu this was the war against the dark wizard Grindelwald and his followers, the one who owned the elder wand until he was defeated by Dumbledore

"Never forget, though, that while [Voldemort's] soul may be damaged beyond repair, his brain and his magical powers remain intact. It will take uncommon skill and power to kill a wizard like Voldemort even without his Horcruxes."
~Albus Dumbledore
in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (page 509)
Thank you.
Oh God thank you, I was gonna mention that one! It's such an important quote that most people have either missed, forgotten or ignored, and it clarifies quite a few things. It makes the theory in this video not quite accurate, even if it was pretty clever!
So, keeping what Dumbledore said in mind, Voldemort in his final state isn't any less powerful or smart than he was before, he's just less human (wizard?). The very core of what made him a man/wizard is damaged beyond repair, but that doesn't affect his powers or his intellect (although understandably his sanity has gone out the door by then...). Really, around the end of the story Voldemort is basically a creature animated by dark magic and little else. Whatever shred of humanity he might've had before is long gone, but his magic is just as strong, if not stronger. Honestly, when you stop to think about it, it just makes him even more terrifying!
Do you agree? Or not? Well, anyway, thanks again for mentioning that quote, I was really glad to see someone else had remembered it!
kaze217 Good point. Voldemort is only about 0.78% human. But Harry, with that extra 1.56% from Voldy, actually has 101.56% humanity in him. So he's even more human than the average person. That sure adds a bit to some of the book's themes.
True, though I suppose it depends on the definition of "humanity" and "soul" harry is good voldy is not. Their souls could show this.
I thought that every time a Horcrux was destroyed Voldemort got that part of his soul back making him more mortal, and when the last Horcrux is destroyed it makes him killable? If that makes sense? Idk maybe I'm just dumb(ledore)
is it just me or do the starting intro make everything so much better

The whole theory is based on the assumption that the soul is split in half each time.

BerrieOriginal a fraction. If his intent was to split it in seven parts then he can store it in 1/7th or even less.
he is implying that Voldemord could as well just put for example 5% fractions into each piece.
Think about it, you are 16 years old. You just learned about a new spell, why would you split your soul in half instead of easing yourself into it?

This whole theory relies upon the assumption that creating a horcrux requires you to split your soul into two equal halves. It's been a LONG time since I've read or watched Harry Potter, but my understanding was that it was more like snipping a piece off than splitting it in half.
Chas Gulley exactly what I was thinking! Back when I read it, I assumed that the point was to have a reservoir of some sorts so that it could still remain somewhere in the world and you can never go away wholly. So you just need to have an incomplete soul within yourself and some soul somewhere else, not necessarily halves. That's why, I thought, he wanted to have so many and all of them had to be destroyed in order for him to die.
This was my immediate thought too. Unless I'm mistaken, the book never specifies 'what %' of a soul is split when a Horcrux is made.
JKR's exact definition is as follows: "a receptacle prepared by dark magic in which a Dark wizard has intentionally hidden a fragment of his soul for the purpose of attaining immortality."
This means you're not necessarily splitting it in two halves.
i recall */Dumbledore/* saying a theory(ha) that Voldemort didn't know how to control how much of his soul goes into each object, esp since Harry was an accident. Now whether or not JK Rowling knows the answer is a diff story
The author however approves of this math theory, which means it is accurate and part of the lore.
Voldemort split his soul half ever time, not just chipping of pieces of it.

The super Carlin Brothers theory I believe is true is that he was waiting around until he could get the sword of Gryffindor to use as a horcrux for his seventh one. Since he already had the other founders artifacts he might as well make his collection complete. Establishing a sense of ownership of the Hogwarts School by having all of the founders items as his own property.
We're not even gonna talk about how Harry's parents were in their mid 20s when they died

image having 200% soul, your 50/50 is someone else's 100%. Average for you is jaw droppingly perfect.
So this entire theory is dependant on that the soul splitt in half every time, and voldemort does not choose the amount to put såaway. They say you put away a small part in the hook

that what i was going to say

Dammit. You stole my idea.
The irony of the Horcruxes is that Voldemort only lived to be a little older than 70, and a good chunk of that time was as a formless wisp in the back of Quirrel's head. Voldemort, for all his attempts at immortality, got outlived by people who just allowed themselves to age naturally, like Dumbledore (who lived to be in his 100s).

MatPat: "Number magic isn't even something that they're taught!"
It is, actually. It's called Arithmancy. It's an optional elective course that they can choose to take starting from their third year. It was Hermione's favorite subject.
Seriously, read the books one of these days, MatPat.
Why would he, if he did he wouldnt be able to make a video and show us he couldn’t read xD
Technically voldemort did have 7 horcruxs because he had a part of his soul in himself which means he counts as one so he had 7 pieces of soul (dairy, locket, cup, diadem, ring, harry, nigini, and himself) the horcruxs anchor himself to life so once he lost his other horcruxs he only had the soul in himself so once his physical body is destroyed then he is gone forever.
1. Ron didn't get teleported by the thingy, he disapperated himself.
2. Harry by the time of the final battle is no longer a part of voldemort because he died.
3. Good theory.
Samuel Joseph Clawson but since Harry is a Horcrux, then he would not be able to kill VOLDOMORT until he killed himself, did I miss the explanation for that plot hole?
he did die and come back (ish just read it)
After finding out the stone hallow was the ring, and that he was a horcrux, he walked himself over to Voldemort (using the stone to bring back his parents and Sirius to comfort him) then lets Voldemort Adavera Kadavera him, then he finds himself naked in the dream-like train station with Dumbledore and the piece of Voldemort's soul. The part that dies is Voldemort's soul, so Harry is actually able to survive the killing curse for the second time in his life.
he passed down the parselmouth ability to albus severus so he stiil had traces of voldie
lacunalshadow damn did u even read the books
How do you know that the Horcrux creation process evenly splits the soul? I had always thought it was just a smallish chunk.
That's because you're right.
Proof?
Yep, or maybe souls can grow and develop (like the minds of children growing into adults) so the smaller remainder of soul in his body grows into a mostly working and mostly complete soul? Therefore even a "small" soul piece in a body can grow into a 95% perfect soul, for example?
that's actually how souls generally work. when a soul is split, the remaining part in the body repairs itself over time. however, the part that is repaired is never the same as the part that was split. so it's no wonder his personality was severely altered by the end of it all. but the fact that harry is more voldemort than voldemort himself still holds true due to the fact that a soul cannot repair itself without a living body. voldemort was dead for a fair chunk of the books, his soul would have only began repairing itself after he got his new body, him attaching to quirell helped a bit but not as effectively. even then he did not give it enough time to really repair before he made nigini a horcrux as well.
A nice, detailed, theory Sekkechi :) I like it!
at about 1:28 you were right they ate grape fruit and i randomly renember this line from the book it went somthing like this :"-but they still gave harry less to make dudley happy"
I literally thought of that theory yesterday and told it to my friend
Okay, Imma say this 3 years after this was posted-
When Harry so called, "died" in Deathly Hallows. The Voldermort part of him was gone, Dumbledore said it himself. So he ain't a walking piece of Voldemort anymore-
YEAH
That’s the biggest missing piece I was waiting for at the end of the video but it was never mentioned. All the rest regarding the percentages is speculation.

1) I'm pretty sure it doesn't split in HALF and instead it it splits in TWO. like you take a cutter to a pizza and remove a piece. It can be as much of or as little of your soul as you wish depending on the state of your soul and how gifted you are at performing it. If done wrong it can rip your soul instead of neatly cutting it or critically harming your soul to now be unstable and resulting in some pretty messed up stuff which is why so few people have been able to do it and why they don't tell anyone how. Not every horcrux may be equal soul parts and its safe to assume over time the user becomes more efficient with the spell requiring more precise cutting and smaller pieces needing to be cut along with less to work with repair taking year/decades (id assume) less soul to work with but not as little as you're suggesting. but they are most certainly not divided as you are claiming or Voldemort's would wouldn't have been able to make horcruxes anymore after only making a couple. The math of your explanation is sound but it wasn't the proper explanation.
2) The soul can heal itself over time. Every other part of the body and mind can repair itself why shouldn't the soul be able to the same. This is how I believe a horcrux user can return to their former self and how they frequently use Voldemort gaining more of his power back over time. This may not be officially cannon but I don't think we can assume that it doesn't heal is canon either.
Did you know that Lockhart is the only DADA teacher who had absolutely no connection to Voldemort? Quirrell played host, Lupin had a friend, Crouch Jr was a Death Eater, Umbridge worked for him in the ministry, Snape was an Ex-Death Eater, and Amycus Carrow was a Death Eater
Oh Matt, you didn't read the books? Why are you doing theories, when you don't study the original material? The movies themselves are not enough.
- They teach number magic in Hogwarts - Numerology. Hermione attended it.
- Nowhere it's stated, that by creating horcrux or committing a murder you split your soul in half. It's told about parts, fragments. Litterally nowhere in canon sources. NOWHERE. You made this one up!
Slughorn also says that soul is supposed to be whole and intact and splitting it is violating the nature. Taking part of the soul is this hard and you want to split it HALF?
- Harry remembered where is the diadem in the room of requirements because he accidentally saw it before. When he visited the room in HP6 book to get rid of the potion book very quickly he marked the place to find it later. He took "some tiara" and placed it on a bust of old wizard. (Really really big coincidence but still logical.)
You know, this is why you read books! Movies have so much inconsistensy a logical fallacy.
- My personal opinion on deluminator: When it's handled to Ron, it's stated that it is unique object and probably design by Dumbledore himself. So we don't really know what it is capable of.
The theory on chosen one is great, even if it's nothing new. But for your next HP universe theory you should really read the books! Love your theories, but with no original sources they have hardly any validity.
Also Voldemort wanted to create horcrux with something from Gryffindor and was searching for it, that's why he didn't make any for a long time.
Also I was thinking what could be a theory based on The Fantastic Beasts... If you're gonna tell us that Ariana Dumbledore is obscurial, you can skip that one, we already know. :)
FILM Theory. The books do not matter!
**coughs** Sorry, my CinemaSins was showing..... Although I now wonder how Book Theory would work.... :/

"avada kedavra" is like an AK47 to the face, noone had survived the curse up to that point, so what's the point of doing something so, to quoute Obi Wan, _uncivilized_?
Voldemort wasn't in Ravenclaw for a reason....besides, I think that in order for the horcrux to work it has to be a more brutal or "hands on" murder approach
I'd guess because he wanted to use the killing spell.

You did at the end bring up Nagini. Did not notice that. And while some say that the spell to create a Horcrux splits the soul in half, the official statements is that it would use a severed portion of the soul, not halved the soul. From Harry Potter Fandom comes this: It was stated at one point that Voldemort had already "pushed his soul to the limit" in creating his Horcruxes. This implied a finite number of Horcruxes any one person may create before the process became too dangerous to attempt again. It also implied that the creation of a Horcrux used a set amount of soul and that this amount was the same every time the process was undertaken. Creating multiple Horcruxes rendered the soul unstable and liable to break apart if the creator of the Horcruxes was killed. For instance, Albus Dumbledore explicitly stated that Voldemort's soul had become so unstable that it simply "broke apart" when Voldemort tried to murder Harry Potter for the first time on 31 October, 1981 in Godric's Hollow.
He should put a warning at the beginning of EVERY THEORY like this one, nice warning MatPat.
