1989 - McDonald's opened 10,000 locations
1999 - KFC opened 10,000 locations
2000 - Subway beats KFC, and becomes the second biggest fast food chain
2005 - Starbucks beats KFC, and becomes the third biggest fast food chain
2007 - The top 5 largest fast food chains have all each opened 10,000 locations
2009 - Subway beats McDonald's, and becomes the largest fast food chain
2021 - McDonald's beats Subway, and becomes the largest fast food chain
2023 - Starbucks beats Subway, and becomes the second largest fast food chain

Does not include franchise stats. All the ones you mentioned are 90% franchise except Starbucks. Easy for a corporation to hand out franchise licenses and expand rapidly, it costs them nothing. Starbucks is 100% corporate owned.
