90s also stood out for a lot of movies you wouldn't normally associate as being Disney, like The Sixth Sense or Pretty Woman
People have to remember that the amounts are not altered for inflation. If lion King was altered for inflation from 1994-2019 then its gross would be $1,701,300,502 putting it fourth on the list, which is incredibly impressive for an animated movie
Technical speaking if the same amount of people saw lion king in 1994 and paid the ticket price of today it would net 3.8billion.

Everything kept outgrossing what came before it because of inflation. If you adjusted for inflation or compared ticket sales instead of box office revenue, I’m not sure how the chart would look, but I don’t think the spikes would be as big. Expect for Lion King and Endgame probably

Is no one going to mention how Cinderella was third on the list in 1990 despite being made in 1950, that meant 40 years of it being in the top 3.
And the description says it doesn't account for inflation so this whole chart is present heavy, a lot of the movies at the start are probably above at least half the end of the chart
Adjusting for inflation, the lion king is 4th on the list, idk how they count Cinderella since it was being sold for so long
Just off of the box office numbers for Cinderella it ends up at 2nd, long behind endgame but again, not counting 40 years of sales
I grew up during the Disney Renaissance. It was just different than anything that came before.
Because for most of those 40 years Disney was fucking trash that's why
1989: The Reinassance begins in Disney Animation after a dark Period in the 70s and 80s
1991: Beauty and the Beast is the highest grossing film for Disney and nominated for best picture
1994: The Lion King takes highest grossing film for 12 years and also nominated for best picture
1995: The peak of the Reinassance. Pixar steps in
1998: Disney makes a comeback after decline for 2 years
2000: The Reinassance ends
2001: Pixar takes the crown for best animation studio
2003: Finding Nemo and Pirates of the Caribbean become the highest grossing films in 2003 and close to be highest grossing of all time but fall short to the Lion King
2004: The end of traditional animation
2006: Disney bought Pixar and the peak of Disney's dark age Also Pirates of the Caribbean the sequel passes the Lion King
2009: Disney bought Marvel
2012: Avengers becomes the highest grossing film for Disney for 3 years also buying Lucasfilm
2015: Star Wars 7 takes highest grossing film spot
2019: The Peak of the film industry for now if covid ends. Endgame is the highest grossing film ever. Also Disney bought fox and the peak of the Disney Empire
2020: Covid hit and the film industry starts to die

@@bballlegend446 Episode 9 barely broke the billion dollar mark, so several hundred million less than 8. Definitely still impressive money wise, but a drop off of a billion dollars over the course of the trilogy, I think shows just how dissatisfied a lot of people were with them. You want your money to go up, not down over the course of your films (especially not by such a huge margin). Endgame managed to hype up the final ending for much of the MCU, but Episode 9 couldn't do the same for star wars.
Yeah I agree, Iron Man 3 was an average movie at best. I didn't expect it to be one of the highest grossing films. The fact that it beat Cival War as well is mind blowing to me.

I’m watching this and getting hit by waves and waves of nostalgia, I’ve seen almost all of these movies. Hearing the themes only increased that, I got literal shivers listening to Avengers, POTC, Lion King and Star Wars among others… A true masterpiece, managed to display my entire childhood in a couple minutes. LION KING was a Legendary movie ... will never be forgetten
People sometimes forget what a huge deal the lion king was when it first came out. I was 5 when it was first released, but i could still remember that it was the first time, where i could feel a hype for a movie. It was the definitive moment that showed movie studios, that you could make big money with animated movies and that people where willing to spend money for it and almost 30 years later now, you can still feel that effect.
And inflation adjusted, it's still the second most successful animated movie in history, just behind Snow White and the seven Dwarves.
I preferred Aladdin.
Lion King is massive and the soundtrack is just as powerful. Circle of life makes people feel so alive. Whenever it is playing, you could see the audience literally crying .
