That side slip landing and your responses and control inputs instantly shattered my pride of landing on a small ship deck after many crashes. 😃 a long way to go and lot of disappointment ahead in the learning curve for me. But as you said once mastered it should be a very good feeling once you pull it off. Your video is such an inspiration. One of the best helo videos ever. Keep going ! Subscribed and watching the channel for more.
Enormously helpful and well put-together. Now to the chopper and practice practice practice. 👍
You got this!
GREAT Tutorial. The UH-60 is hard to land but is so rewarding once you get the hang of it. I've crashed SO MANY TIMES trying to do a J-hook landing like the last one in this video. Very hard to figure out on your own. Thank goodness for this tutorial to help the noob pilots! :D
Any corrections I have are really just slight inaccuracies that aren't really important for the sim haha, also ETL is 16-24kts (in any helicopter) unless it's inaccurately moddled. Other than that great advice and accurate enough for the sim! Everything comes down to practice and getting a good control touch so if you're having issues flying repetitions are the only way to get better
@Trevor - legend!
I assumed it was a knots/km/h thing. However, I’m just an idiot who’s never touched the controls of a real aircraft and I’m not very good at the virtual ones either:D. That said, I did think the ETL numbers were a bit high for knots so assumed it was said after flying the gazelle or the Russian choppers which are in kilometres.
That sounds more critical than intended. It’s not meant to be, this video is really helpful and I’m glad I’ve watched it, I learned a lot.
The issue with sim tutorials. Like people that learned to play guitar from Guitar Hero!
I simply love your tutorials. They cover things others dont cover and you do it so well and skillfully.
Thank you so much!
Man's a genius. Not only is he a Hornet God but he's also a whirlybird genius. Thanks for this help! I love the Blackhawk and have a bad habit of slamming the rotorblades into the ground in landing.. This has greatly helped me. Thanks buddy 10/10 on a tutorial, great way to break it down barney style.
The decelelating turn is one hack of a move. Wow.
useless, the bleed flare is the only landing in use.
When it comes to Heli, you ARE the boss
This is gonna take a lot of practise, great vid brother!
oh yeah....Professor of Edutainment hits the mark again !
Smooth like butter! Just a question out of curiosity thou.
Do you perform your landings with SAS 1-2, Trim, FPS and boost turned on?
Reason I ask is that the heli tends to fight ones input, esspecially in regard of the FPS.
Always love your amazing chopper skills even your Arma vids!
I appreciate that mate thank you
Holy cow you back. Seemed like you were gone for months . The helicopter king is back
Very Well explained and expertly executed. The other great thing about the UH60-L is that it has Auto Assist working in your favour to smooth it all out ... or you can have direct control with aggression if needed by simply depressing the Trim release. Top Job. I thought I was good but you have definitely showed me up hahaha.
Great demo. The HMD might also help. Like a ski stop.
Here it is, thank you!
You're welcome!
Such a buster, but great people 😂
Awesome! My goal is to master these landings during this crazy ice storm.
You can do it!
Truly a master.
Like a f*ng BOSS!!!! Awesome video!!!!!!!!
Amazing! Well done, thanx for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Nice. For the car guys, think drifting or catching a tank slapper. Window is small but it is there.
Plane guys, you match loss of lift (stall) with the ground. Look up stol competition.
But Mav, some very good points on cues and tells.
Excellent flying sir :)
Thanks mate!
Brand new to Arma and brand new to helicopters.
I have TM Warthog stick and throttle , seitek pedals and trackIR…..
However, really struggling with settings and landings. Would love tips and more tutorials!
outstanding
Thanks great video. I try to get better with the Uh60. Did you fly the decelerating and the side slip with pressed trim release? do you have a video where you explain how to use the Trim right?
ETL is 16-24KTS
Transverse Flow 10-20kts
well done Mav!.... great content as usual..... can you please share your axis curves, when you post the apache vid?
your control is so smooth, i am assuming for the 64 you have a custom curve for your cyclic? take care bro!
I have a curve of 10 on all 3 axis mate with a dead zone of 1 on all 3 also.
@@104thMaverick thanks man!..... Appreciate your response..... Take it easy bro.....
Great vid🙌
Thank you! 😃
is this applied to the Apache as well? WOuld be nice if you make vids for apache landing flying combat, i find you the most precise and interesting instructor in DCS
Nice one!
Thank you mate
Hey Mav! Couple points
I don't think they're properly modeling the drag due to sideslip. This is something I covered in my review video. Unless somethings changed significantly since then, I think you're deriving most of that deceleration in the turn mostly due to roll attitude (the dy/dphi term, for those who know that that means). Otherwise, the general theory is correct.
The control inputs you're making seem pretty excessive at times. Again, I think this is likely a result of the flight model not handling those out-or-trim scenarios very well. The amount of lateral cyclic required on landing is particularly suspect.
In any case, nice flying. I think it's important that you emphasized the general visuals and attitudes you want to maintain rather than making specific inputs. This will allow these skills to transfer to other aircraft where the physics are more accurately modeled.
Hi Erik, great points mate!
The FM is not very extensive so the inputs are a little wild to get the results I want but the aircraft is still a lot of fun to fly. It is a free to fly mod so I did t expect too much from the flight model.
It reminds me a lot of helicopters in Arma.
I’m going to do a similar video but on the Apache and the difference in control inputs is huge.
Is this done with bot SAS and FPS activated? And force trim is not pressed during this turn?
What settings do you use (Curvature,saturation...ect)for for your throttle, joystick and rudder pedals for the blackhawk . Great flying BTW!
Hey thanks! I use a curve of 10 on all 3 axis and a dead zone of 1
Awesome thanks!
@@104thMaverickYou are my inspiration and my tutor! Maverick 4ever!! I am doing better with helo flying! Thank you so much for all of the amazing contents!! Love you mate!
nice video man. quick question ive had problems with my replay system being extremely inaccurate how did you get it to work?
I didn’t brother, I got another player to film me coming in to land for the external shots
Great instruction. After you do the Apache, how about the Hind or Hip.....
I don’t like the Russian aircraft mate so I probably won’t touch them, I might do the UH1 after the Apache tho
@@104thMaverick No worries! Just thought it'd be funny to see how large the turn circle was for those big birds.
“If it’s not NATO, it’s a POTATO!” LOL
@@tacticalpete44 I've never heard that one before lol
in what world is ETL 60 knots? It's normally around 15-30 knots, depending on windspeed & direction.
Nice landing. How did you get external view replay unbroken ?
I didn't mate, one of my squadron mates recorded it live in a server with me
Good morning! What’s the keys to add the cross box seen here on the tutorial on the left up corner of the screen? Thanks
Right control + Enter
Good morning, I was watching your video, congratulations, I would like to see the Apache tutorial, thank you
I’ll work on it, thanks
@@104thMaverick thank you
Hey Mav, may I suggest putting a pause symbol when pausing the clips? My brain keeps thinking it froze 😂 Very good tutorial man I'll be using this quite often :)
That’s a good idea mate, I’ll start doing that
Also get into a safe space and just go wild but within reason, You need to know the limits (too much/too little), then you can fine tune controls/input/curves etc. Granted it is a lot easier in the magic F-16 at 40.000 feet. Yes, you might need surgical skills but trust me, it is possible. Mav does it in 3 tries, I do it in 600.....oh well ;)
I’ve always treated the effect of the cyclic and collective opposite to how you describe them. Collective always controls your rate of descent. Cyclic governs your speed. I’m not qualified to insist this is the correct way. My approach to landing is pull back on cyclic to slow and drop the collective to maintain the descent rate you need, manage your heading with appropriate pedal input based on the torque demand.
What you described works if you’re actually descending from height, we’re trying to do all these landings and deceleration from low level which requires a different technique
I’m getting really good at this, my only issue I keep having is even with collective almost fully down, I keep ballooning and gaining a lot of altitude right over my target landing point. So I can hit the target but I end up like 100 feet over it. Any tips?
Start the decal a little earlier mate and force the nose down more aggressively. If you’re ballooning it’s cause you’re arriving too fast.
@@104thMaverick got it so start the decor by turning the aircraft to the side into the wind earlier so when I get to my target landing point I have less speed/lift and force the nose down more aggressively to help with avoiding lift. I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!!!
You’re welcome good luck
Which base is that? would be good to know to practice on.
Al Minhad
Is there a guide on how to land a AH-64 like this?
Not yet but I’ll work on it
@@104thMaverick Cool, thx
Just when are you going to fly the Kiowa! cant wait for you in that one.
I’m hyped for it mate, can’t come soon enough, although to be honest I’m more excited about the Chinook!
@@104thMaverick wait, what?!!! that bird is coming?! says who? module or mod?
Full Fidelity DCS Chinook by Eagle Dynamics
How many tries did it take for that smooth intro landing? ;)
Obviously I nailed it on the first attempt my brother 😂
@@104thMaverick Of course! How silly of me to ask, eh? 🤔
Are you a special ops pilot, By any chance.
Ha! Sadly not brother, I’m just a Scotsman with a dream! I am training to be a real helicopter pilot tho but not in anything as exciting as special ops
You should probably fly the aircraft at MCP instead of being in a limit like 90% of the time you're flying. (for realism's sake)
I hear you boss! There is no damage model on this mod so I’ve been full send but more realism couldn’t hurt.
It will make your flights and motions more deliberate; though to be fair the amount of power/lift thats actually being produced may not be displayed properly on the EICAS so who is to say. @@104thMaverick
navigation and radios/systems(HMD-HUD)?😎
How to “Land” the Blackhawk mate, the clue is in the name 😉
@104th_Maverick I'm hinting at more tutorials actually
when did we get a blackhawk....?
Last year, it’s a mod tho
how realistic is this mod?
It’s more the on the Arma flight model side than DCS but still a lot of fun to fly
ED Should've gone for a black hawk not a chinook!
I don’t know dude, I’m mega excited for the chinook, it’s the workhorse of military rotary transport
@@104thMaverick I guess I exaggerated, but the black hawk is bad ass x))
Please turn off followers only chat on your twitch. It's very annoying- I don't know if I want to follow you without interacting with you.
Sadly there is a lot of idiots on the internet my friend, I've found without followers mode on its an open invite for any angry keyboard warrior to try and give me abuse and hide behind a screen, it won't be something I'll remove sorry.
@@104thMaverick Sorry to hear it. Have a great day though!
strictly forbidden. no one ever lands like that in real life.
weird flight dynamics by the way :) far from realistic.
Lol ok if you say so. I fly helicopters in real life btw but thanks for the lesson 🤣
sure you do. i fully support simmers dreaming of becoming an airborne sheep farmer in the outback. Supposingly that's the only thinkable scenario where i would believe choppers are flown this way. you're welcome.@@104thMaverick
